Programming / Re: What Does Employed Web Developers Do In Their Workplace? by Runningwater(m): 8:23pm On Jul 25, 2022
SpiderKage:
I believe the title question is self-explanatory but I'll go into more details. As an employed web developer (visiting this Nairaland), what are your common tasks in your workplace?

Do you build websites for your company or for your company's clients?

What are you usually tasked or charged to do by your company? I'm just curious, plus the insight would be quite valuable.

I've been so curious to know that had to check YouTube but almost all are jargons and people who want to increase their views. I needed to know the exact day to day coding activities of web developer
A nice thread to follow smiley

I only know of updating, fixing bugs and adding newer features to codebase according to few articles I've read.

RIP to him cry

I don't know what played out there but a piece of advice:
I would advice anyone to near water bodies (lake, oceans, swimming pools, rivers, etc) only when he/she can swim very well

Most drown are cause as a result of unable to swim.

Religion / Re: How Low Christianity Has Fallen by Runningwater(m): 10:46am On Jul 22, 2022
Well it depends on what you expected it to be

First of all, I ain't religious but to expect Christianity to solve your problem when you don't believe in it, it's madness. Why expect them to live up to your expectations? Whether they like money, live "immoral" life, being hypocrites or whether not living as their religious book says, leave it for their leaders in such faith to handle it. Non-christians should only get involved when such leaders can't solve the mess. Besides, imagine if Christianity doesn't exist for a bit? Do you know the numbers of criminals put off their stupid acts? So why they might not be doing what they preach but at least they still solve some of our societal problems that couldn't be solved by the police and others.

Secondly, Religion plays an important role in society whether you like it or not. It's a place for comfort but not for people like me though. So we shouldn't criticize anyone religion whether it's in line with ours or not. But there're instances we might get involved such as when it interfer with ours or lives of others and maybe harm to them among others and it should be done "lawfully".

I think I'll stop here

U get?

I nor go lie but I once believe that but you know what, if someone can't sell himself/herself it's kinda hard or won't get what's expected. For me, knowing something is different from marketing yourself about it.

So focusing on only the expert level only won't work my brother as no one can ever reach expert level instantly cause learning is a lifelong process

Take your shame somewhere else. Do Nigerian professors shop or pay their bills in dollars? When did the legal tender in Nigeria become dollars? These sort of comments are part of the reason ASUU goes on strike for half of the year. How come the US govt doesn’t say to professors in their country that ‘we pay you 7 million Naira a month’. It’s ridiculous, have you compared the cost of housing in the two countries? Or Cost of other commodities? This one side comparison Nigerians make against the dollar is the reason things are way too expensive in Nigeria today. Land sellers peg prices to match property prices in New York, Atlanta or Sydney Australia without considering the stark economic difference between Nigeria and these other economies. Food bills are so high in Nigeria now, that it’s scary to imagine how majority of the population are able to cater for themselves and their families.
I’m conclusion, these sort of comments show that these people are out of touch and should not be given air time .

Nice analysis well written down

Nah, majority of the primary school teachers in my state didn't attend University. It's NCE graduates that dominate o.

Payment shouldn't be made on high qualifications only.

Who groomed the empty students' mind at young age with knowledge for profs to lecture them with little efforts??

You can't just cut off the root like that.

I do not dispute this. All tutors, every Nigerian worker, deserves a pay raise.

ASUU is fighting its war. Other associations should fight theirs.

1h10min to charge your phone or for the powerbank to charge ?
About that steady discharge i experiences it sometimes but i noticed its either when i charge it with inverter or gen.

1hr for 10% when charging the power bank with follow come cord but when it gets to 80 or 90 it changes and start charging slow

It is by adequately paying professors and other academicians, and facilitating their research works that our so-called bigger problems would be solved.

I've read your arguments here. They are flawed.

You forget to include all tutors in Nigeria from kindergarten teachers to high academicians. Cause education is a tool that can be used to change the world.

All tutors deserve increase in pay not just professors

Una no Dey regard Nigerian professors, same Nigeria professor Wey teach me for middlesex university, husband to one of Nigeria actress, Nigerians when it comes to dedication, we are wonderful. You Dey Bleep up, disregard for one of the world Brightest countries, Nigerians are Doing well abroad because of the pay, good life. Give them good life and pay, see the educational system flourish

Prof, I do respect them cause it's ain't easy to specialize in an area with lots of research papers and works among others but what I'm saying is that secondary school teachers should not be neglected. There should be increase in pay for all tutors in Nigeria and NOT just profs only

Then as for being not valued by employers of labour, I think it's common in Nigeria and NOT just to professors. Our Doctors, professors, programmers, engineers, and other skilled workers do run from Nigeria cause of pay and other factors. Even me typing this when I got enough skilled to contest with fellow django back-end developer abroad I go japa too.

We're on same page

You're just running your mouth like running water!
Do you know the stress that Nigerian academician go through just to do research? Many public Universities in Nigeria do not have functioning campus wide internet, there is no stable power supply, no updated physical library, the laboratories are derelict. And all these are needed for quality research!
Aside the fact that American, British, etc academicians are well renumerated, there is provision of utilities such as power, internet, water, etc, so tell me how they will not do better job?

Good now you're thinking right cool.. Their pay isn't close to the other bigger problems we have in Nigeria right now!!!

Please post the salary of a British or American professor. I dare you. Its a challenge. Post the salary of educators in Britain and USA. If possible post the salaries of professors with specialization in medicine and other professional studies. I dare you.

I'm seeing above $70k for professors from indeed job website then while for high school teachers I'm seeing above $60k. All yearly median salary.

So you're saying because US active professors are receiving well, all our prof should do the same?

How many academic achievements or research our own profs have done in general aside from few schools like UI and others?
