The Name operation sweep was simply changed to rrs. Pls behave. Boldly written RRS. |

Now that they are a private entity, they can also issue licences to companies who intend building refineries! Despite having private owned refineries, the USA also have government owned refineries! Seems the financial challenges and inflation rate in the country has not gotten to you! They cannot build or repair them. Hasn't history taught us anything? Since Abacha's government, the Nigerian-owned refineries have been in perpetual state of (dis)repair. |

If this was possible, why was the repair not carried out right from the inception of this administration? Lets even admit without conceding that our moribund refineries are beyond repair, what stopped the FG from building new refineries instead of denying that there was anything called subsidy? A state in america Texas has 47 operational refineries yet we are trying to revive a refinery when we have the resources to build new ones! I stand to be corrected....Nigeria is the only OPEC country that still imports petroleum products! What a disgrace! Government has no business in business. Government should not be building more refineries. Instead they should support private investors in any shape or form to get them to produce locally. |

Kasssandra: Because they can't see how subsides are damaging the economy.
Which is one reason why I don;t support APC or PDP or even any of the parties...none of them wants to remove subsides. But the thing is, whatever Labour says, we have to.
Your tinubu better support subsidy removal. So should atiku and obi. Forget labour. They are not always right. You can't say forget labour. ASUU for instace is a branch of Labour and no matter how ASUU might be, the public would always support them over government. |
Politics › Re: Subsidy Removal: Keyamo Tackles LP, Obi Over Proposal by rusher14: 5:39pm On Sep 17, 2022 |
Kasssandra: No, we don;t need subsides in any form...unless , like the UK, everyone here pays taxes.
Nigeria has a poor tax to gdp raito...that;s a big reason why we cannot afford subsides on anything. Yet we do subsidse education, power, petrol, and health.....from oil money and the poor revenue we get from taxes...leading to issues with our budget, and more debt.
If you want subsides in this country to work...then everyone..including herdsmen and farmers, and street traders, has to pay taxes to the federal government on top of the state and LG taxes. Any other way does not work.
Even countries like the UK have debt issues from subsides, on top of their high tax revenues. Are you reading for the sake of understanding or simply to oppose? Can you tell me where I promoted subsidies? I simply responded to the issue of subsidising of luxuries which should never happen. If anything should be subsidized, it can only be essentials. |

openmine: If this same administration had done the needful by having the will power to repair and build new refineries from 2015,we would not be experiencing an inflation in the price of aviation fuel where a single trip by air attracts more than 80k!
If PMB had dedicated resources from the beginning of their administration to ensure refineries are working instead of resorting to blame games, there would have been nothing like fuel subsidy by now and diesel that was 230 per litre last year wont be selling for 700-900 naira! You cannot repair our refineries. By now this should have been clear to all. The solution is to sell them off to private investors but I'm sure Labour would oppose the sale. |
Politics › Re: Subsidy Removal: Keyamo Tackles LP, Obi Over Proposal by rusher14: 5:35pm On Sep 17, 2022 |
Kasssandra: Whichever Nigerian leader wins next year....he or she has to remove subsides completely. If Tinubu wins, Labour would oppose it. If Atiku wins, Labour would oppose it. If Obi wins, I still think Labour would oppose it. |

Kasssandra: Then Obi should make some sense to you, while your government is complicit in the greasing.
Since APC did not have the cojones to remove subsidy completley in 2015.. By now, we would have had some working refineries, and more jobs. You are talking absolute tosh. Can't you see the irony of Labour the most vociferous opposition to removal of oil subsidies suddenly for the sake of power be the champions of the same subsidies. In any case, I'll hang back because I'm 100% sure Obi would not win. |

Kasssandra: You mentioned it in a comment justifying subsides of essentials.
Which you implied should be done for all Nigerians
As you and I know, it isn't possible. We don;t have the money to do so. I did not imply it should be for all Nigerians. My argument was that subsidies are not for luxuries but for essentials. I gave an example of how it is provided for the less privilege in UK. You do not subsidise luxuries, instead you tax them. |

Kasssandra: 1.Meal vouchers are not given to all UK children...they are given to families that qualify.
2.We subsidised essentials in this country before...and by the year 1985, there was scarcity of all of them...because we no longer had the money to pay for subsides due to the oil boom collapse of 1982 Did.i say it is given to all children? |
Politics › Re: Subsidy Removal: Keyamo Tackles LP, Obi Over Proposal by rusher14: 5:21pm On Sep 17, 2022 |
Kasssandra: .
So you don;'t support subsidy removal. Right.
Because at the end, the subsidy eats into the budget...and by extension into the salaries of Labour union workers.
At the end, the NLC is going to face the truth. Either they support subsidies...and by extension balloning deficits, and more loans, and more debts...or they support removal of subsidy, and by extension, a brief period of high prices, but their salaries get paid, with the possibility of more increases to assuage subsidy burdens...and long term more jobs.
Let them choose their medicine....
Kenya just did a partial removal of subsides...not because Mr Ruto is madt, but because it is costing them far too much in money. I'm in total support of the removal of subsidies. Even as I disliked the Jonsthan government, it was one policy i supported. Guess what? Labour leaders hate the idea. How else would their palms be greased? |

Politics › Re: Subsidy Removal: Keyamo Tackles LP, Obi Over Proposal by rusher14: 5:08pm On Sep 17, 2022 |
Landowner101: Why will a sane government be subsidizing what they produce. This things aren't supposed to be overpriced by default, but due to the level of corruption and criminal minded the big bosses of Nigeria are they will keep looking for ways to loot our resources, thereby enriching other countries. Products that aren't been produced in Nigeria like electronic, phones, laptops etc are things that should be subsidized, but here in Nigeria this are things that are been bought *2 of the normal price of such products in other sane country. This is why we need someone like Peter Obi, we the sane Nigerians are tired of promise and fail government. That's not how it works. You subsidize essentials which otherwise would make the less privileged suffer. For instance, in UK, meal vouchers are given to parents so their kids can afford meals. You don't subsidize luxuries and in fact, you tax them. |
Politics › Re: Subsidy Removal: Keyamo Tackles LP, Obi Over Proposal by rusher14: 5:06pm On Sep 17, 2022 |
Kasssandra: If Obi is serious about removing subsidy, then he is making a lot of sense.
Subsidy is a big burden on our economy. It eats up money, no way one looks at it. It is also one of the main reasons, if not the main reason why we don't have working refineries from NNPC, and why Dangote refinery would soon join them if it isn't removed by the time it comes on stream
At the end, you cannot force a business to run at a loss, and then pay them a subsidy that does not cover the loss.
Keyamo is the one that should get real. If subsidy was working, how come our budget deficit is rising. How come governors from his own party are pointing out that allocaitons to states are reducing.
The APC has failed...economics....forever. You are writing absolute rubbish. How can Labour which has always opposed the removal of oil subsidies suddenly support a candidate who says he would remove subsidies when till today if you attempt to remove oil subsidies, the same Labour would protest and ground the country to a halt? |
