I think at this point, the government needs to as matter of urgency set up commission of enquiry on police brutality across the country with the following terms of reference: 1. Invite memorandum from the public on cases of police brutality since 1999 to 2020 2. Public hearing and testimonies from the citizens on brutality 3. Investigate into allegations submitted by the public on the veracity or otherwise of the claims 4. Bring to justice, erring officers and the heads of units in whose jurisdiction the acts of brutality are perpetrated. NB: Sack or kill where appropriate 5. Determine and pay compensation to the victims (if alive) or the families of the victims (in case the victims are dead) 6. Write a letter of apology duly signed and embossed with the seal of the presidency to the victims and/or families in line with no 5 above. 7. Etc. |
They said you are bad, you swiftly ran home only to come back and said you have changed your name and clothes. Is the same blood not flowing in you? How has coin of name changed police brutality? |
[quote author=Apeshy102 post=91524734]Life may never remain the same for Mr Emmanuel Iloabuchi Iloanya after the Officer in Charge of Awkuzu Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), Mr. James O. Nwafor and his men allegedly killed his son Mr Chijioke Iloanya without getting justice. Mr Iloanya in a telephone chat with News9naija recounts how his son was arrested and gruesomely killed in cold blood by one Mr Jame O. Nwafor, now a retired police officer attached to Awkuzu SARS who led his boys to a naming ceremony and arrested attendees which many of the arrested never made it out alive, unfortunately, Mr Chijioke John Ilonanya was amongst those who never made it out alive. Upon learning about his arrest, on November 31, 2012, Mr Illoanya in company of his wife went to the Awkuzu Police Station were they met their son in handcuff, though they saw him there, they were driven out of the police station. Unsettled with the proceedings, Mr Iloanya proceeded to the office of the Anambra State Commissioner of Police where he met the Commissioner and his deputy. Upon narrating his sons ordeal to them, they promised him that nothing would happen to his son, but this promised was never fulfilled. Upon his subsequent visit to the commissioner, Mr Nwafor was summoned but never showed up. It was on his visit to the Commissioner's office in January 2013 that the Deputy Commissioner of Police told him of his son's death. Mr Iloanya proceeded to the Awkuzu SARS office where he met Mr James Nwafor. Upon request for his son's whereabouts, Mr Nwafor told him, "Go, I have wasted your son". This insensitive statement didn't go down well with Mrs Iloanya as she collapsed and was rushed to the hospital upon hearing what Mr Nwafor said. Mr Iloanya didn't stop there, he went on to seek justice for his slain son, if not for anything but to at least retrieve his corpse from the SARS. He met one, Rt Col. Emmanuel Udechukwu (now Late), a human right activist through who Mr Iloanya delivered the sum N1.5M to the Awkuzu SARS but nothing came forth. Till now, Mr Iloanya has not set eyes on his son nor his corpse. Mr Iloanya is calling on the Nigerian Police Force, NGOs and well meaning Nigerian to help him get justice for his son. He said, "I know that my son is dead, but i just want justice" Mr Illoanya can be reached on 08035501598. When government does nothing to curb their excesses, then bestiality is openly displayed. It is a sorry state indeed. |
[quote author=Okuda post=94995648]My brother, I totally agree with you but lets not forget that the system, that Fulani/Islamization agenda that the north wishes to exert on the whole of Nigeria is one of the reasons why we have such down here. 1. When all these were starting, the government said or did nothing to stop it here. 2. Just like in America where you have systematic racism where you cannot explain why something happens but it does happen for the fact that there is an underlying root problem. This is what we are suffering here. The government is in full support of any form of oppression of the people of the south. to subdue them, to gradually initimidate and kill them so as to reduce their numbers, put them in chains while using other means to push their islamic agenda. This is the underlying problem and its has not been so bad unlike the last five years when we have a jihadist as the number 1 man in the whole country! This should explain to you better why they would quickly send soldiers and police to shoot at sight at IPOB protesters and label them terrorists when we know that the real terrorists in Nigeria are up north. Does that make any sense to you? Even the United states labelled Bok Haram, the 2 most deadliest terrorist group in the whole world but the Nigerian govt refuses to see them as such. Shebi northern govrnors have held meeting and are saying that they do not see the need for SARS to be disbanded. Does that also make sense to you? No! its part of the bigger agenda. does it mean that they do not see that people are being killed for nothing? but they do not care as long as it fulfils the greater goal "chain them, reduce their numbers, deny them those things that would make them great because when they have those opportunities they are intimidating. Your type is the reason we are having difficulties reaching a common ground to fight our common enemies in the country. Do you think this kind of unsubstantiated submission you have concoted will bring all of us together to see our real enemy as enemy? Do away with innuendos and feed the public with fact please. |
Those guys are monsters, I witnessed one of their power intoxicating scenes where one of them was acusing a guy next to me in a public bus of smiling while he was talking. The next statement was ....quoting him verbatim "do you know after God we are next" I still thank God that I was able to mind my business that day. |
Old men in government are like second term governors, all they care for is to finish up their tenure. But youths in government would wish to make everything possible to secure a future where their generation can thrive. |
Much as salute the undaunted zeal of Nigerian youths both home and abroad on the endSARS issue, there is still a long way to go. SARS is just a subset of the country's problematic issues. I think the same energy should be dissipated on protesting the several mis-governances from the political conglomerate called the ruling class. They need to be made responsible, responsive and accountable to the citizens who offered them the mandate. If people are waiting for NLC, TUC or any union to stage protests on obnoxious government policies, NO, those guys are put there to fight solely for the interests of their members. So, in cases where they are not directly affected, they may turn blind eyes. As thing stands in the country, bad governance needs to be halted for us to chart a new way forward. |
As if Wike isn't a godfather in his own political enclave. In so far as my people are not wise enough to bring in a neutral party/person in Edo, it is still a case of pot calling the kettle black. Oshiomole and co, Obaseki et al remain the political conglomerate that must be fought by the public to engender good governance in Nigeria. |
Some of us have consistently clamoured and still hammering this. That university education is not meant for every Tom, Dick and Harry. Imagine spending years to be graduates, yet one becomes confused afterwards. It is either the educatinal system is defective or the students are themselves confused. Our generations must be saved. |
