HAVE A REGULAR PATTERN OF GOING TO BED

Do you endeavor to go to bed at about the same time every night?
Having a consistent bedtime facilitates the onset of sleep and ensures you sleep long enough to be fully refreshed.

How much sleep do you really need? Most adults need between 6-8 hours every day while children need much more depending on the age.

To determine if you are getting enough sleep, consider the following: Does sleeping occur with ease? Are you alert and able to concentrate when awake? Do you wake up naturally at about the same time each day? Do you return to sleep quickly when it is disrupted? If your answer is No to any of these questions, you may need to work harder at achieving a healthful sleeping pattern.

There are three main things to look for:
Loss of interest- He or she begins to ignore activities that were once sources of excitement
Low mood- He or she begins to look sad. Some actually cry but tell you there s nothing wrong. Generally, they find it hard to explain this states of unhappiness or sadness.
Low energy- This is often quite common because people find it easier to to admit they are tired than depressed..

Health / Re: I Am Addicted To Soft Drink. 3 Bottle A Day I Need Help by RxH8: 9:52am On Mar 29, 2017
dante300:
i recently got back to site where i work as an operation head in an aspiring construction company. a village in southern kaduna. i do not know how to cook but rely on any food i can get but the food sold in a village like this is worrysome so i have no choice but to manage. in the process i try to neutralise my taste bud by taking soft drink anytime i eat....now its already a habbit from 1 and 2 to 3 bottle a day depending on howmany times i eat. its over few months now and i realised i am addicted. 21 bottles per week and roughly 84 per month.i dont know what to do as i still feel healthy. no pile no diabetes no nothing but i fear for my future. what do i do reverse my situation?
I am happy to see you admit drinking that much is a problem. To help overcome the problem you may want to try these suggestions:
1. Take time to write down why you drink . Time, places, how you feel etc. eg thàe process i try to neutralise my taste bud by taking soft drink anytime i eat.......that suggests mealtime is a trigger.
2. Write down why you want to stop or reduce it
3. Look for healthy alternatives
Be sure to screen for diabetes and related conditions. Hope you find these useful.

Although making a diagnosis calls for involvement of mental health experts, there are basic signs that family membes, friends and colleagues can pick. This may well prevent further decline and save the life of that loved one.

Unlike western countries, it is unusual for Nigerians to admit directly that they are depressed. This is because many see it as a sign of weakness. They are also afraid people will label them as having 'Kolomental', 'Psyco' or mad angry No body wants to be called such. Some are afraid of landing in 'Yabaleft' or 'Aro' embarassed shocked . I have also met a lot who never realized they had a problem that could be solved. When hopelessness sets in, a few have concluded the only viable solution is suicide. How sad!

[quote author=Mimzyy post=54852745]Mr Z is in his late 40s,he was brought to the clinic on account of strange behavior which has persisted for a few months. He was looking scruffy, hair not combed and he looked like he had lost confidence in himself. When talking, he avoids eye contact and he mumbles his words, you can hardly hear anything he says. He had studied in the UK, he returned to Nigeria and set up a school, he was a pretty successful proprietor. Few months ago, he was noticed to start withdrawing from social activities, his confidence seemed to drop, he sometimes refuses to eat or leave his room, he became indecisive and was found to keep asking all his staff for what to do in the school, he said he feels every other person has a better opinion than him in running the school, he feels he’s incompetent. Some members of staff took advantage of his condition and ran the school down and made away with his money. He feels hopeless and sometimes when he sleeps, he doesn’t feel like waking up. He hears voices telling him how useless he is and suggesting he should just take his life. He has contemplated suicide and feels he’s a failure even as a father. He was once treated for depression when he was in the UK.
.

WHAT IS DEPRESSION?
Depression is a common mental disorder, characterized by sadness, loss of interest or pleasure in things and activities usually enjoyed, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep or appetite, feelings of tiredness, and poor concentration. Health / Re: 6 Most Commonly Abused Drugs In Africa by RxH8: 1:30pm On Mar 23, 2017
There is really very little data to support the list. Marijuana is probably the common illicit drug of abuse. Heroin used to be common in 80s. Not anymore. Prescription drugs like tramadol n codeine are currently trending. Seen a number of Young, tramadol abusers with convulsions in recent times. Nairalanders beware.

Health / Re: Let's Talk Mental Health Here! by RxH8: 3:53pm On Mar 18, 2017
It is important to note that there are usually multiple reasons, not just one, for suicide. Several negative factors may weaken an individual’s mental health and overwhelm his or her capacity to cope.

If you or someone you know is contemplating suicide, do not delay in seeking professional help.

THEY MAY BE IMPULSIVE

Some persons are naturally impulsive, moving swiftly once their minds are made up. In certain instances, this occurs when under the influence of alcohol or drugs which may affect their judgment and increase risky behaviour. Drug and alcohol use may also lead to suicide in other ways. For instance, persons that drink or abuse drugs also experience intense feelings of withdrawal when trying to quit. This may be associated with depression, hopelessness and suicidal thoughts.

THEY MAY HAVE OTHER FORMS OF MENTAL DISORDER

Mental illnesses associated with psychosis also accounts for cases of suicide. Schizophrenia, a severe form of mental illness affects healthy persons between 17 and 30 years old. Other forms of psychotic disorders may be brief but distressing as well. Hearing voices of unseen persons is one of the main features of psychotic illness which may lead to suicide. For instance, when a person hears voices of unseen persons, he may begin to hear commands such as ‘why don’t you kill yourself’ ‘You can end all these problems by killing yourself’ and so on. Unfortunately, an individual that is mentally ill may obey these commands with tragic results.

Although some persons leave notes before attempting suicide, this does not always resolve the question: why?
Why do people take their lives? Why would a hilarious grin, cheerful, grin kind and happy family member or friend want to end it all by taking his or her life? This is a question that have left many families bewildered tongue and shocked tongue after a loved one attempts suicide.

HELP FOR TRAMADOL ADDICTION

If you have been taking tramadol in large doses or for prolong periods, do not try to stop taking it on your own.
Seek professional help or find a rehab centre.
Stopping tramadol suddenly may result in severe diarrhoea, rapid heartbeats, high blood pressure and excessive sweating
This is best done under a doctor’s supervision who will be on hand to manage any life-threatening reactions.
