To start with, issues with energy in Nigeria has more to do with generation. With close to 190 million people, the 5000 megawatts is grossly insufficient. This means that we can only ration out energy in the country. USA, China and India with huge population have hundreds of thousands of megawatts produced, and even south africa with a population of less than 60 million generate close to 50, 000 megawatts. To understand this issue, just imagine using a petrol generator or better pass my neighbour to power a street.
