Pennsylvania officials on Tuesday certified the commonwealth’s election results showing Joe Biden won the presidential election in the state over President Trump. Gov. Tom Wolf (D) tweeted that the Pennsylvania Department of State certified the election results and he “signed the Certificate of Ascertainment for the slate of electors for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris” as required by law. The move cements Biden’s victory in the Keystone State, which helped him top 270 electoral votes in the election three weeks ago. The certification comes after officials in both Georgia and Michigan certified results showing Biden winning their respective Electoral College votes. “I want to thank the election officials who have administered a fair and free election during an incredibly challenging time in our commonwealth and country's history,” Wolf tweeted Tuesday morning. “Our election workers have been under constant attack and they have performed admirably and honorably.” The development deals a further blow to Trump, who unsuccessfully sought to block the commonwealth from certifying its election results in the courts. https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/527338-pennsylvania-certifies-biden-victory

A manual recount of 5 million ballots cast in Georgia showed Thursday that Joe Biden won the presidential election, validating initial results. The recount found that Biden received 12,284 more votes than President Donald Trump. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger plans to certify the election by Friday, a deadline set by state law to finalize results. The hand recount, which also functioned as an audit of the election, mostly aligned with initial machine counts. It also uncovered almost 6,000 ballots in four counties that had been overlooked in the initial tally, resulting in Trump closing his deficit to Biden by 1,400 votes. Both counts found the same outcome: Thousands more voters in Georgia chose Biden than Trump. In addition to the votes Trump gained from the newly discovered ballots, he also picked up nearly 500 additional votes in the manual tally. The machine count showed Trump trailing by 12,780 votes. The recount and audit, ordered by Raffensperger last week, was a major effort to verify the results of the presidential election. He sought the recount following political pressure from Trump allies who questioned Georgia’s results. The machine count showed Trump trailing by 12,780 votes. The recount and audit, ordered by Raffensperger last week, was a major effort to verify the results of the presidential election. He sought the recount following political pressure from Trump allies who questioned Georgia’s results. “Georgia’s historic first statewide audit reaffirmed that the state’s new secure paper ballot voting system accurately counted and reported results,” said Raffensperger, a Republican. “This is a credit to the hard work of our county and local elections officials who moved quickly to undertake and complete such a momentous task in a short period of time.” The Associated Press called the race in Georgia for Biden soon after the recount was completed. Several other major media outlets projected Biden would win last Friday. The hand recount showed small differences from the original machine count, which election officials said they expected. In all, there were 126 counties within 10 votes of their original vote tally, according to the audit data. Of those counties, 54 counties matched their initial results exactly. No county had an error rate higher than 0.73% compared to their original results. Initial election results were produced by optical scanners that read either bar codes on printed-out paper ballots or filled-in ovals on absentee ballots. The recount reviewed every ballot by hand, with humans reading the printed text or ovals on each ballot across Georgia’s 159 counties. Biden is on track to receive Georgia’s 16 votes in the Electoral College, which will meet Dec. 14 to cast their ballots for president. “We’ve been saying from the beginning that the results of this audit would show that Joe Biden won this race,” said Maggie Chambers, a spokeswoman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. The Trump campaign bashed Georgia’s recount because it didn’t include another verification of voter signatures on absentee ballot envelopes. Election workers checked signatures when absentee ballots are received, but signature matching is impossible during recounts because ballot envelopes can’t be traced back to ballots. The Georgia Constitution guarantees ballot secrecy. “Whatever the count in Georgia today is, it’s totally ridiculous,” said Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s personal attorney, during a nationally televised press conference earlier in the day. “They’re counting the same fraudulent ballots one more time, and we’re still very close.” A lawsuit by a Trump supporter to block Georgia from finalizing its results fell short in federal court Thursday. U.S. District Judge Steven Grimberg, a Trump appointee, found no justification to halt certification of election results based on allegations of improprieties by attorney L. Lin Wood, the plaintiff in the case. The hand-count audit made clear that mistakes that resulted in missed votes the first time around didn’t affect the outcome of the election, said Aunna Dennis, executive director of Common Cause Georgia, a government accountability organization. Most of the overlooked votes were stored on memory cards that county election officials failed to load after election night. “It’s important to keep those mistakes in perspective: humans make mistakes. That’s why Georgia has a risk-limiting audit process, to look for these types of mistakes and double-check that the election outcome is correct,” Dennis said. Gwinnett County had a large difference in its manual recount, with 1,642 more ballots counted than were scanned by machine. The additional votes benefited Trump, netting him 285 more votes. There could be another recount next week. Under Georgia law, candidates have the right to request a machine recount after certification if they lost by less than half a percent. Trump was trailing Biden by about 0.3%. The cost of the recounts will be paid by taxpayers. If the next recount finds the original count was incorrect, the results of the election would be recertified, according to state law. As Georgia continues to audit 5 million ballots by hand, president-elect Joe Biden’s lawyers have said that the recounting isn’t making any substantial difference in the final vote count. According to Bloomberg, Marc Elias, a prominent Democratic lawyer who’s aiding the campaign said: “More Georgians voted for President-elect Biden than voted for President Trump.” He added: “There is nothing that the recount’s going to do to change that.” As of late Sunday, 48 of the state’s 159 counties have finished their recounting of the ballots with either no change or minor shifts, with differences of fewer than five votes in some instances, the lawyers said. Four counties that have finished their recounts reported having no changes. In a historic victory, Mr Biden led Republican President Donald Trump by more than 14,000 votes in Georgia and was projected as the winner in the state by most TV and news networks on Friday, though the Associated Press is yet to call the result. Mr Biden is the first Democrat to secure a victory in the state in 28 years. Amid the allegations by Mr Trump, Georgia’s Republican secretary of state Brad Raffensperger ordered a recounti of all the votes in the state by hand, given the closeness of the results, with the gap between the candidates less than 0.3 per cent. The process is due to be completed on 20 November. Mr Trump has been alleging widespread rigging and fraud in the swing states he lost to Mr Biden, including Georgia. The Trump campaign has filed several lawsuits to recount the votes, although none of them have yet yielded any favourable results to the Republican. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-election-2020/georgia-recount-votes-biden-trump-results-b1723475.html |
In a tweet Sunday, President Donald Trump continued to spread false claims about the election but also publicly acknowledged for the first time that President-elect Joe Biden won the contest. Trump has repeatedly ― and falsely ― declared victory in the election, despite virtually all major media networks projecting Biden as the winner. Multiple world leaders have congratulated Biden on his win as the Democrat’s team has begun the transition process. “He won because the Election was Rigged,” Trump wrote in his tweet Sunday, referring to Biden. Though Trump has repeatedly claimed the election was “rigged” and has pushed baseless allegations of voter fraud and ballot-counting irregularities, his campaign has failed to produce any evidence of widespread issues. In his tweet, Trump falsely claimed election observers weren’t allowed at polling places. Both Republican and Democratic election observers were permitted inside polling places, as lawyers for the president’s reelection campaign have admitted. Trump also suggested that Dominion Voting Systems Corp., a company that sells electronic voting software, manipulated ballots or inaccurately tabulated votes. But election experts and officials in several states have rejected the president’s claim. Twitter quickly slapped a warning on Trump’s tweet, noting his claim about election fraud is “disputed.” “WE WILL WIN!” Trump wrote in a subsequent tweet Sunday. Trump later tweeted that he concedes “nothing” and that Biden had “only won in the eyes of the FAKE NEWS MEDIA.” Tump’s public acknowledgment of Biden’s victory comes on the heels of a massive pro-Trump rally in Washington on Saturday in which attendees echoed the president’s claims of a rigged election. The rally, dubbed the “Million MAGA March” by participants, drew thousands of Trump supporters as well as counter-demonstrators. Violent clashes between the two parties erupted after nightfall on Saturday, leading to at least one stabbing and more than a dozen arrests. https://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_5fb12ac3c5b68baab0fd2ccc

Donald Trump is throwing perhaps his biggest ally under the bus as the reality of his election loss sets in. “.@FoxNews daytime rating have completely collapsed,” Trump tweeted Thursday. “Weekend daytime even WORSE. Very sad to watch this happen, but they forgot what made them successful, what got them here. They forgot the Golden Goose. The biggest difference between the 2016 Election, and 2020, was @FoxNews!” Trump advisors told Axios that the president’s ire at Fox News began on election night earlier this month, when the channel made the early call that Joe Biden won Arizona, which apparently enraged the president. (Most other major outlets eventually called Arizona for Biden on Wednesday.) “He plans to wreck Fox,” a source told Axios. “No doubt about it.” What’s more, some of Fox News’ most loyal anchors have started to scratch their heads at Trump’s repeatedly false claims that he won the election, despite Biden’s obvious Electoral College lead and a popular vote lead that has surpassed more than 5 million more votes. On Monday, Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto cut away from footage of a press conference held by White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany alleging widespread voter fraud, a claim that isn’t based in reality. “Whoa, whoa, whoa, I just think we have to be very clear, she’s charging the other side as ‘welcoming fraud’ and ‘welcoming illegal voting,’” Cavuto said. “Unless she has more details to back that up, I can’t in good countenance continue showing you this.” “That’s an explosive charge to make, that the other side is effectively rigging and cheating,” the Fox News anchor added. “Not so fast.” The Trump campaign has tried desperately to produce evidence of widespread voter fraud since it became clear Biden won the election, coming up short each time and losing legal battles in the process. Even Tucker Carlson, one of Trump’s staunchest allies, told his Fox News audience that Trump’s claims of voter fraud simply aren’t “enough to alter the election result.” While Trump has remained defiant in his claims of victory ― aided by several Republicans who have opted to stay quiet ― Thursday may have marked a shift in the president’s thinking: He has lost the election, so must now move on to his next project. That may be to start his own digital news channel after his presidency ends, siphoning viewers from Fox News over to a network even more entrenched in Trump praise, according to Axios. Trump also spent much of Thursday morning retweeting his own supporters who bashed Fox News and praised Newsmax TV. As CNN points out, Newsmax TV peddles in conspiracy theories and ― perhaps most important to Trump ― refuses to concede that Joe Biden will be the next president. https://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_5fad67d2c5b6d647a39ce7be

(CNN)The stars and stripes have been fluttering all week on the streets of Ballina -- the town of just 10,000 in the west of Ireland where US president-elect Joe Biden's Irish ancestors hail from. Ten of the former vice president's 16 great-great-grandparents were born in Ireland, according to the Irish for Biden campaign, with Edward Blewitt, Biden's great-great-great-grandfather, providing the Ballina connection. On Saturday, as CNN projected Biden's White House win, Ballina residents came out to celebrate their distant kin's success. "I think Ballina has saved the world tonight, because without Ballina, there would be no Joe Biden," Smiler Mitchell, a local publican, told CNN. Balloons were tied to cars and the crowd sang "The Green and Red of Mayo," a famous ballad about the county where Ballina is situated. One car with a cardboard cut out of Biden in the front seat had a license plate which read, "PENNSYLVANIA BIDEN #1." In the lead-up to the election, the community held a "Ridin' for Biden" event around the bridges crossing the River Moy with a carousel of cars passing the town's iconic cathedral and finishing in front of a mural of the man himself, erected in the town's main square. https://edition.cnn.com/2020/11/07/europe/ancestral-homes-biden-us-election-intl/index.html
