President Muhammadu Buhari has won Nasarawa state for the first time since 2003 defeating Alhaji Atiku Abubakar by 37,896 votes.

Results collated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lafia shows that President Buhari polled 279,315 votes to defeat Atiku who polled 241,419 votes.

Buhari won in eight local governments while Atiku won in five local governments marking the first time the Peoples Democratic Party has lost Nasarawa state in a presidential election since then return to democracy in 1999.

The president got his highest number of votes in Lafia, the state capital, where he polled 55,254, while Atiku got his highest votes in Karu local government after polling 49,292.

The All Progressives Congress won all three senatorial seats in Kwara State in the National Assembly elections conducted last Saturday.
Results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission showed that the party won in Kwara South, Kwara North and Kwara Central Senatorial Districts.
PREMIUM TIMES earlier reported how Senate President Bukola Saraki of the PDP lost the Kwara Central seat to Ibrahim Oloriegbe of the APC.
In Kwara North Senatorial District, the APC also polled 98170 votes to defeat the PDP which polled 33, 364.
The APC candidate, Umar Sadiq, was consequently declared the winner of the legislative seat.
The total number of registered voters in the district was put at 386969 while the total votes cast was put at 137456.
Rejected votes were 4544 and total valid votes were put at 132912.
In Kwara South Senatorial District, Lola Ashiru, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, also emerged victorious.
The Returning Officer for the election, Sylvia Malomo, while declaring the result at the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat in Omu-Aran, said Mr Ashiru polled 89, 704 to emerge the winner.
His closest rival, Rafiu Ibrahim of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), polled 45,176 votes. Mr Ibrahim is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking.
The total number of registered voters in the district was put at 432,499, with total valid votes at 136,889. The total number of rejected votes was 3,119 while votes cast were 140,006

The Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, on Friday came alive as ex-workers of Nigeria Airways Limited staged a rally to support the reelection of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the pensioners and ex-workers of the defunct national carrier declared their support for the president for paying N22. 6 billion as part payment of their entitlements in October 2018.

The pensioners, who turned out in their numbers, moved from the premises of the Skypower Catering Services through the airport environment chanting “Sai Baba” and “Next Level”, to publicly show their support for Mr Buhari.

Speaking on behalf of the Nigeria Airways ex-workers, Lookman Animashaun, said the rally was to show appreciation to the president who came to their rescue after many years of neglect by previous administrations.

“Words are not enough to express the profound gratitude of the over 6,000 pensioners and ex-workers of Nigeria Airways to Buhari for his timely intervention in the payment of our benefits.

“For 14 years, we were abandoned, humiliated and frustrated in our demand to be paid what was due to us by successive governments, whose stock in trade was tissues of lies designed to hoodwink the public.



“In the process, about 800 of our members lost their lives.

“But today, PMB has wiped out our tears, put smiles on our faces and restored hope to our members and their families with the part payment of our benefits.”

According to him, the ex-workers of Nigeria Airways are optimistic that Mr Buhari will pay the outstanding balance soon as promised.

Also, Sam Nzene, National Chairman, Nigeria Airways Pensioners, told NAN that the former staff and their families would cast their vote for Mr Buhari because it was the right thing to do.

“This is a man who saved us, who brought smiles to our faces, who rescued our families when others refused to show concern.

“He did promise that he will do it and he actually did it by paying part payment of our benefits that have not been paid for over 14 years.

“So we decided to show gratitude to him by organising this rally because one good turn deserves another.



“We have decided that we and our families will vote for him. We want to tell Nigerians to vote for him because he is a man with a kind heart,” Mr Nzene said.

He said the outstanding payment of their entitlements was already captured in the 2019 budget, which was a clear demonstration that the money would soon be disbursed to the beneficiaries.

NAN reports that the former national carrier was liquidated in 2004 by the President Olusegun Obasanjo administration. But the workers were not paid their severance packages as stipulated in extant labour laws.

The workers were paid a fraction of their entitlements by the late President Umaru Yar’Adua’s regime in 2008 before Buhari approved the part payment of N22. 6 billion to them.

The government has also promised to pay the other half of the money to them as soon as funds are available. (NAN)

U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that the World Bank Group should be led by U.S. Treasury official David Malpass, a Trump loyalist and critic of multilateral institutions who has vowed to pursue "pro-growth" reforms at the global lender.

Trump's nomination of Malpass, the Treasury Department's top diplomat, is subject to a vote by the World Bank's executive board and could draw challengers from some of the bank's 188 other shareholding countries.

The United States, the lender's largest shareholder with 16 per cent of its voting power, has traditionally chosen the bank's president, but departing president Jim Yong Kim faced challengers from Colombia and Nigeria in 2012.

The nomination of Malpass, who beat out other potential candidates, including former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi and U.S. Overseas Private Investment Corp. President Ray Washburne, signals that the Trump administration wants a firmer grip on the global development lender.

"He has fought to ensure financing is focused on the places and projects that truly need assistance, including people living in extreme poverty," Trump said, in announcing his choice at the White House with Malpass by his side.

If I am to deceive people, have you taken time to go through all the sources I quote? All the dailies can't be wrong at the same time I guess?

Why should your report focuses on MOU rather than when the Project started. You know before 2012.. Obasanjo too sign MOU and even did flag off, but nothing was done on the project until 2017. You signed MOU and Project did not start, neither follow through on the funding. You report is one sided. You never provide a link to when the project flag off commenced. No single link...very shameful reporting
