CultureRe: Relationship Between Yoruba Language And Igala Language. by Sabbatical(m): 6:40am On Aug 19, 2022
[please, I will really like if you can refer me to a book detailing this. Especially where the Okun people of Kogi comes in.
uote author=scholes0 post=115820956]

Pls stick to what you know, or calm down and stop gettting your panties in a bunch.
I said Igala sounds like heavily modified archaic Yoruba, I never said it is the archaic Yoruba, maybe you have comprehension issues..... If you have any contrary opinions, express it. It is an established fact that the NW Yoruba dialects (Your Oyo, Egba, Ibarapa and co) are the newest and latest evolving Yoruba dialects while the eastern dialects ( your Ekiti, Ufe, Ijebu, Owo, Ondo, Okun of Kogi and co) are the most archaic and stable...

That is why an Igala, Ekiti, Ondo, Itsekiri, Ijesha person will instantly interpret the title of Teni's popular single "Uyo Meyo" without breaking sweat, but your average Lagosian or Ibadan Yoruba will still be asking if that is even Yoruba language.
That is why the vocabulary of Igala is closer to that of the eastern dialects but with heavy mutations due to contact with Idoma and Igbo.

Igala and Olukumi do not belong to the same time period.
All linguists agree that Igala and the modern Yoruba dialects split off from a previous common proto language... so I don't know how any well informed person will be comparing the chronology of Olukumi vis-a-vis Yoruba with that of Igala, which shares a much more antiquated level of relationship.

Ps: Who told you there is nothing like Olokunrin in Yoruba. Stop overreaching yourself please.... or better still, just stick to your dialect and stay there.
And even if that was the case, where exactly are the exaggerations? because apart from that one example out of all those I have listed up there you haven't pointed to any other one.

Check a map please, Yoruba are not more southerly than Igala per se.... it is Nigeria's confusing political geography that makes people think along the lines of ;"Igala are North, Yoruba is South" Or have you forgotten there are Yorubas in the same "Northern" kogi state with the Igalas? grin

Geographically, Yorubaland extend both more in the Northerly and more in the Southerly directions than the reach of Igalas.... Which means that even within Yorubas, you will actually find Yoruba groups more northerly and more southerly than Igala geographically..... So you can see your hypothesis is already faulty.[/quote]

This isn't Owo, no dey buga too much.
This is a very insensitive reply to an uncouth statement. You people still need to realise that PO needs more than the votes of the SE & SS to emerge victorious. So you guys should push the whole southern agenda rather than think your votes alone will bring PO in power.

Here, the OP started by pointing out how prevalent money ritualism is. Somewhere in the middle, he discredited the assertion that money ritualism makes one a millionaire. After, he said people engage in it so they could get rich quick.

I mean, why would it be prevalent if it is not luxurious?

All I see is a confused fellow. 1st, you don’t believe ritualism gives money and you follow it up by saying lazy people indulge in it to be stupendously rich. Isn’t that conflicting?

My stand. Money ritualism is real and true. And it is a menace that must be eradicated.
PoliticsRe: Reno Omokri: Biafrans Built This Armoured Car During The Civil War by Sabbatical(m): 5:57pm On Dec 03, 2020
Biafrans should know that the silent theme in their words echoes pain of defeat. You declared a war, attempted to shatter blood along the western routes to the north and the Yorubas wouldn’t want such, then what’s with the unnecessary empathy?. It was a war of interest, with each one’s interest overlapping another, there’s bond to be a conflict. Lord knows the Yoruba would have responded likewise if the Northerners were the aggressors too.

Until you guys realize that diplomacy is the way forward, I fear a similar thing would always be your fate. A proverb says “when one cries, he also sees”. Biafra were crying but failed to put into consideration all that’s required to win. Evidently, it is not always about having superior weapon. You need to be wise.
SportsRe: Barcelona Terminate Eric Abidal's Contract As Backroom Clear-out Continues by Sabbatical(m): 6:57am On Aug 19, 2020
I’m a little marveled about how people argue here on this platform. How would a football enthusiast in his right senses say Messi is the problem of Barca?. Like.. do you watch ball at all? Apparently, such people only watch Barca’s champions league’s semi Finals and thought they’ve known it all. Abeg you should all face your team. Like they even have any player that currently play better than Messi in their team/s. One idiot was even saying Messi didn’t allow Neymar to shine...smh. Stick your gibberish to your throat abeg.
TV/MoviesRe: 'Scam Show': BBNaija Viewers Outraged Over Kaisha's Eviction by Sabbatical(m): 11:35am On Aug 17, 2020
How I so much crave to own a power that could vanish all those shouting “Nigerian youths are jobless and fools” for watching the reality show. Like, are you guys dumb or just senseless?
Reality show would always be better than scripted show. And that they use their money to vote is no concern of anybody. Pour your horrible heart out to the government for Bleep sake. I’ve never voted for any housemate and I don’t plan on doing that but everyone to him/herself. People take so much fun in something harmless and e-tigers are out with their claws shouting unnecessarily at them. It’s just so annoying how some people would barge on the thread they could easily avoid for the sake of maturity. Oponu, who told you you’re wiser than the bbn viewers. You all better stick to what you do best and leave everybody to their cruise. Radarada

Animal activists in this thread should really take some chill pills. Humans are deprived of their rights...what do you expect of animals?. Moreso, the food situation in this part of the world is really is sympathetic. Until our economic is on par with the western world, stuff like this will continue to happen.
TV/MoviesRe: BBNaija Season 5 Starts July 19th, 2020 by Sabbatical(m): 6:07pm On Jun 29, 2020
Seriously it's high time we stopped crucifying this show. So far, it is one of most creative thing organized by Nigerians on multichoice. Like movies, it creates a lot of opportunities for our youth in the face of hardened unemployment; you cannot believe how much airtime is being retailed during the show and while most participants are basically second-class citizens, the show helps to push their brand forward. As for the viewers, they gain as much as they do when they watch movie-series and the likes. If my opinion matters , I would suggest they make the show more commercial than it is for people to gain more from it. Developed European nations make the most from things like this.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Coppa, Supercoppa: Ronaldo Lost 2 Straight Cup Finals At Club Level For 1st Time by Sabbatical(m): 1:18pm On Jun 18, 2020
Well, this doesn't dispute the fact that CR7 is arguably the best player in the world. At Juve, he's only having the feeling Messi has when he put on the Argentinian Jersey. He can now understand that teammates complement you. Messi could have done better at Juventus with his style of play tho. Age itself is setting in. Overall, I'll still pick Messi anytime.

It is appalling what this thread later turned to. If Yorubas talk, you go complain..if dem no talk you go complain nawa o
Some SEerners were even saying the SWerners are just starting their suffering. Abeg..who dey suffer?..before Crude oil became a thing of note, were the SW suffering? And who told you they're not going to be fine post-crude oil? They boast of higher intellectuals anyday. By calculation, SW is still better than SE take it or leave it; they earn moderate and there prices of things are equally moderate. They have what they have despite their fewer population by comparison. Stop wanking furiously on threads that doesn't necessarily involves only the Yorubas. They are not the cause of your *perceived* misfortune. Yorubas are about the most liberal tribe in Nigeria.; that shouldn't be mistaken for lukewarmness. Afteral, a handful population of SE/SSerners voted Buhari. Biafra..I can only pray it happens, I doubt the reality. Only restructuring is feasible. The best we can do for ourselves is to be realistic. I do not expect any SEerners to barge into this thread and support the N or W but atleast let's enlighten ourselves..as that may be the bedrock of a future action.

I think the basic reason why people, including me, feel irritated by this act centers on the fact that this animal shares a lot of anatomical resemblance with human!
