FoodRe: Yam Pounder by SadeB(f): 4:17am On Dec 30, 2011

Try using a food processor like the Ninja blender 1100 http://www.ninjakitchen.com/products/ninja-kitchen-system-1100-nj602/drtv/ogviinouptst.shtml?utm_source=www.ninja1100.com&utm_medium=Infomercial&utm_campaign=Offer7UpTstCookbookFSH159
Actually I wanted to share another appliance that works well, if you do not have a yam pounder.  The Kitchenaid Stand Mixers work well.  The 5 Quart Bowl Stand Mixer comes standard with a "J-Hook" attachment that is normally used for dough.  The 6 Quart Bowl Stand Mixer comes standard with a "S-Hook" attachment that is used for dough.  Both will work well as a hands free way to pound yam.  I like the "S-Hook", but if you do not want to pay the higher price for the 6Quart Stand Mixer that comes standard with the "S-Hook",  you may buy an "S-Hook" attachment for your 5Quart Bowl Stand Mixer.

This may be a great alternative if you do not have access to a yam pounder seller.  Also, you may use the mixer for so many other cooking tasks, so you get a lot for your money.

I wouldn't be without my Clarisonic Facial Brush. I also have a Clarisonic Mia for travel. It like having an at-home facial and removes for than using only a washcloth. I use creamy cleansers or gel based cleansers with the brush. After which I use a light peel, serum and moisturizer. But the brush is an essential for me.

For casual wear, I use Michael Kors, but for professional or formal attire I use Michele watches. I love watches. They are like another piece of jewelry.

FoodRe: The Tea Thread by SadeB(f): 4:35am On Dec 13, 2011
I really enjoy my teas.  My go-to tea is organic green tea.  I also like blueberry green tea, mint green tea and peach green tea.  I have stopped drinking black teas because I want to minimize my caffeine intake.  I keep a variety of green teas on hand so that I can vary my intake.  The most cost effective brand is Bigelow.

But when I am indulging, my guiltiest pleasure, which I was introduced to at the spa, is White Lion brand tea. I love the Blueberry Acai Herbal tea ( that is the one I tried at the spa).  I also enjoy the White Lion Green Teas (Organic Jasmine, Organic Moroccan Mint and Green Passion Tea).  These are teas that I keep just for me or share with very special people in my life. buy the sachets for convenience so that I can always have them with me.

I don't add any sweetener, however, if you like sweetener, the White Lion Honey pearls are a great natural choice.  They are convenient so that you don't have to carry around  a bottle of honey that will get sticky and messy.  Love this topic, tea is a great way to escape and relax. smiley

I think Houston probably has the highest number of Nigerians in the US.

have you tried Nigerian food? You might want to visit Finger-licking its on Bissonet/Woodfair
Already been there a few times. I enjoyed what i had. I do not eat redmeat or much fish and so I usually have some chicken and rice. But again there is so much available in Houston, so if a person is interested, it is easy to get involved and learn new things. Thankyou again for all the helpful suggestions. I am sure at some point you will mention something that i haven't heard of, wink

On the SW part of Houston especially around Bissonnet there are lots on Nigerian and Yoruba churches there.

Though they speak English, You can also start going for Naija parties too LOL. maybe you can get a Yoruba bf. LOL
I have actually visited some of my friends churches too and some of the many events they celebrate. There is a lot of diversity in Houston and I appreciate it.

You are quite welcome.

SadeB,

You did a good job learning those Yoruba words.

There are lots of Yorubas in Houston too that can teach you the pronunciation.

Kudos
Thank you. And actually I have quite a few Yoruba friends and they have been helpful with the pronunciation. Speaking with them has accelerated my learning. Thanks again. smiley

gbking,

I am a black American female, for your reference.  In the last 4 months I have taken up the side hobby of learning some Yoruba.  It is a bit difficult as I do not have many people that I am around daily that speak it to me.  But I have one very patient friend who has taken up teaching me. I generally will say something in English and ask for a translations and that been a nice way to learn basic things.  Since we have started, I have become so interested, that I have a Yoruba textbook, audio cds, the holy bible in Yoruba (written and audio).  Basically if you want to learn it will take time and try lots of different way to make it fun. And most importantly spend time with people who speak it, that is a tremendous help.  So I will give you  so of what I have learned so far, hope it is helpful.  smiley

RomanceRe: Housing And Relationships by SadeB(f): 7:40am On Dec 28, 2010
samir101ng:
@ OP,

By the time i am ready to get married, i would be financially secure and able to provide for my family. That means renting or owning a house and funding the wedding. Any REAL MAN worth his salt must have a plan for taking care of his family. That means being educated, having a job, financially mature etc. Ladies always talk of guys taking advantage of them but why date a dude based on his good looks, charm, prowess in bed etc without looking at his future goals. The probability of any woman seeking a serious relationship that will end in marriage dating a guy that does not have a source of income that will provide for his family is very low.
I agree with this perspective.  I am currently funding my own living space, but when I do marry my expectation is that my husband will provide for the above mentioned items. Of course, I will participate in the provision for the family in an agreed upon way.  Again, I really value a man that expects nothing less of himself than to provide for me and our children. And I am more than ready to execute my role as wife.
