Travel / Re: Pandemonium At Lagos Airport As Customs, Agents Clash by saintalone: 10:38am On Dec 07, 2014
TheMadame:
^^
My dear you have to imbibe a lot of patience. I will explain to you why-
1.There is serious congestion at the airport. Goods are strewn across the tarmac as far as the eye can see.
2. Agents are not allowed into the bulk breaking area any more. In the old system agents could go to the tarmac collate their importers cargo and forklift them into the sheds. No more of that. You have to wait for Nahcco or Sahcol staff to do it at their own pace.
3. Duty must be paid. Anything you paid on cargo before is now doubled times two. So if you were paying 100 k before expect to pay 200k.
4. Demurrage negotiations are on going between agents and the handling companies. Your agents are really battling this matter so that there is a reduction of the demurrage.
5. The Customs are on ground. They were on duty yesterday saturday and will be on duty on sunday, but they can only examine and release what is brought into the shed from the tarmac by Nahcco and Sahcol fork lifts. This is why Olanrewaju was insisting that the handlers need enough facilities and equipment to handle cargo from the tarmac to the sheds. The bitter truth is that these handlers DO NOT have enough forklifts to do the job and they have consistently refused to up grade.
Goods are being cleared but at a slow speed because of lack of enough equipment.

Thanks for the info TheMadame... Fingers crossed
