Christianity EtcIs Evangelism Neccesary For Every Christian? by saintvc(op): 5:50pm On Aug 27, 2013
Is evangelism a necessary activity for a Christian?
Some people argue that it is every Christian's duty to do the work of an evangelist. I'm not sure. The distinctive work of an evangelist is to proclaim the gospel. Preaching and proclamation comprise one of the offices in the New Testament and one of the gifts of the Spirit, and so on. This gift is not given to everybody, and so I would say that, in the technical sense, it is not every Christian's responsibility to be an evangelist

whats your view?
Christianity EtcWhy Did God Choose To Remain Invinsible? by saintvc(op): 5:33pm On Aug 27, 2013
I don't think there's anything that makes living the Christian life more difficult than the fact that the Lord we serve is invisible tous. You know the expression in our culture"Out of sight, out of mind." It's very, very difficult to live your life dedicated to someone or something you cannot see. Often you hear people say that when they can see it, taste it, touch it, or smell it, they'll believe and embrace it, but not before. This is one of the most difficult problems of the Christian life

why does he choose to remain invincible?

Christianity EtcHow Did God Respond To Jesus Cry On The Cross "Why Have You Abandoned Me" by saintvc(op): 6:47am On Aug 27, 2013
We can look at this in two ways.

On the onehand, there was no answer. Jesus screamedthat question to heaven. He screamed it audibly, and there was no audible reply. As far as the New Testament indicates, there are only three occasions on which God speaks audibly, and this was not one of them. The Son of God was screaming in agony, and the Father remained silent.

On the other hand, we could say that three days later God screamed an answer with the empty tomb, bringing forth the Holy One. I think that plaintive cry from Jesus on the cross is one of the most important and misunderstood verses in all of sacred Scripture. The explanations for it have run the gamut. and saw in it a clue that Jesus died in a spirit of bitter disillusionment, that he had spent his ministry expecting God to bring the kingdom of God dramatically through Jesus'ministry—a that Jesus allowed himself to be arrested and led right to Golgotha, expecting that God was going to rescue him at the last moment from the cross.

Suddenly, when Jesus realized that there was not going to be a rescue, he screamed in bitter disillusionment and died a heroic death, but with an embittered spirit nevertheless.

That was many peoples view, but others have taken a different one.
We realize that the words Jesus cried on thecross are an exact quotation of what David penned in Psalm 22. Some people say that here in his agony Jesus fell back on his knowledge of Scripture by reciting it. I don'tthink Jesus was just quoting Bible verses onthe cross, but it certainly would have been appropriate for him to use a statement of Scripture to express the depth of his agony.Jesus didn't justfeelforsaken on the cross; hewastotally forsaken by God while he hung on the cross because that's exactly what the penalty for sin is. As the apostle Paul elaborates, sin cuts us off from the presence and benefits of God. Christ screamed, "Why have I been forsaken?" It wasn't just a question; it was a cry of agony. Christ knew the answer. The answerwas given to him the night before, in Gethsemane, when the Father made it clear that it was necessary for him to drink that cup

Christianity EtcRe: The Non-Christian Chatbox ( sticky ) by saintvc(m): 2:13pm On Aug 26, 2013
obadiah777: Now ladies and gentlemen, In no way am I endorsing any of your spiritual inclinations, or non-spiritual inclinations as the case may be, however there is such a thing as fairness. All the herbs of the field are established as a precursor to 'choice'. Options are needed without which man has no tests. This thread provides those options. Now i would hope you make the right choice but you have to be guided by your own spirits and convictions.

genesis 1 vs 11-12 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

grass, herb yielding seeds and fruit tree yielding fruit in that verse are metaphors for 'non-christian doctrines' like Atheism, Buddhism, Voodoo, etc etc. So ladies and gents the world is your oyster. let your spirit guide you to your healing plant.

You seem to miss the point.did you read the post?
Christianity EtcDifference B/w Christianity And Religion by saintvc(op): 10:38am On Aug 26, 2013
. I would say that Christianity first and foremost is not a religion, even though we use that term to describe it from a sociological perspective.
The termreligiondescribes human practices—practices of worship, of cultic involvement, of belief in a god, and of obeying certain rules that come from the god or gods.

There are various kinds of religions in this world.

There is a religious aspect to Christianity. We do worship, and we are involved in certain human activities, such as prayer andBible studies and devotions. Our religious practices are similar to the practices of other religions.

But Christianity is much more than a religion; it's life.
The very fact that a person is religious does not necessarily mean that he is pleasing God; the primordial sin of man is idolatry, and idolatry is the worship of something that, in fact, is not God.

The worship of idolsinvolves the practice of religion. This is exactly what Romans 1is speaking about; God is not pleased by any and all types of religious activity. Our religious activity may at times be insulting to God. Christianity itself can degenerate into being merely a religion; that is, it can have the external formal activities and sociological practices without the substance that motivates all these things—a profound love and devotion to God himself and a profound trust in Christ's work

Senator Ahmed Yerima was interviewed on Channels TV yesterday to shed light on why he is in support of child marriage.

The embattled senator is astonished by the outrage of Nigerians towards his belief that even young girls are fit for marriage.According to him, a girl is ready for marriage whenever her parents deem it fit.

He stood his ground even while being grilled by the show presenter and added the little titbit that his own teenage daughter is set to be married this year.

striktlymi: Hi seun,

I know you might not get to read this but still I have to try...

As stated in my post to you here... I have two complaints to make, which I will elaborate on, in two separate posts. My complaints are:

1) No formal avenue for reporting moderators when they use their powers arbitrarily.

2) The section is greatly skewed to favour 'Christianity' or better still protestantism.

2) The section is greatly skewed to favour 'Christianity' or better still protestantism.

The drama yesterday was quite interesting and rather 'entertaining' and I felt it can't get any worse but boy am I wrong.

The rate at which this section is being 'Christianized' is quite alarming and I am not pleased with it in the very least. It was bad enough that 'Christians' were given a dedicated chatting thread but only ridiculous that they now have 4 dedicated 'Christians' only thread stickied.

Why should 'Christians' have:

1) Christian bible quiz thread https://www.nairaland.com/1362817/christian-bible-quiz-ladies-vs
2) Christian praise thread https://www.nairaland.com/110109/praised-him-yet-today
3) Christian abode thread https://www.nairaland.com/1411899/welcome-christians-abode-new-members
4) Christian chatbox https://www.nairaland.com/1114515/christian-chatbox

I mean what exactly is the rationale for so many threads for 'Christians' in a religion sectionhuh Especially when proponents of those threads do not believe that Christianity is a religion. To put it in proper perspective, the question should be: why do we have so much protestant threads stickied in a religion section?

I am quite sure that if a catholic goes into any of those threads and address the brethren with the greeting: "Glory to Jesus...Honour to Mary" he/she will be crucified for it. Hence the threads are intrinsically protestant.

The move to 'Christianize' the religion section is not welcomed, and a step in the wrong direction. If this move is inevitable, please give 'Christians' their own dedicated subsection and tag it: "Christianity for protestants".

Seun, if you believe in numbers then be rest assured that the combination of Catholics, pagans, Atheists, Deists etc constitute the majority in nairaland and not protestants.
