Foreign AffairsSadam Hussens Brother Dies by saintvc(op): 2:06am On Jul 09, 2013
SADDAM Hussein's half brother and former director of his feared general security services died of cancer on Monday in a Baghdad hospital, a senior official said.

Deputy Justice Minister Busho Ibrahim told The Associated Press that Sabawi Ibrahim al-Hassan, who had received several death sentences, was transferred to the hospital from prison as his health deteriorated at dawn.

His body will be handed over to his family.

Al-Hassan had lived in exile for a period afterthe 2003 US-led invasion, but was deported to Iraq by the Syrian government in 2005.

He was suspected of directing and financinginsurgency operations by Saddam loyalists inIraq from Syria.
His photo appeared as the Six of Diamonds in decks of playing cards distributed by the US military featuring members of Saddam's deposed regime.

Al-Hassan was No. 36 on the US list of the 55most-wanted Iraqis at the time.

Under Saddam, al-Hassan served as head of intelligence and security during the 1991 Gulf War.

He then ran the general security services until 1996, when he took up his final post ofpresidential adviser to Saddam.

His son, Ayman Sabawi Ibrahim, was arrested in Saddam's hometown of Tikrit and was sentenced to life in prison, but escaped in northern Iraq in late 2006.

Saddam was executed by hanging on December 2006 for his role in the 1982 killings of 148 Shi'ites following a failed assassination attempt in the early 1980s.

Budget amendment

… As Senate dumps Reps in face-off with Jonathan

From ADETUTU FOLASADE-KOYI, Abuja

Fresh indications emerged at the weekend that the Senate may have dumped the House of Representatives in National Assembly’s face-off with the Presidency over amendmentof the 2013 budget.

Daily Sun exclusively gathered last Friday, that an agreement had been brokered between the Presidency and the Senate which culminated in the U-turn in the Upper Legislative Chamber and a possible lay-off of federal civil servants in 2014.

Hitherto, federal lawmakers were on the war-path with the Presidency over requests to amend the N4.987 trillion 2013 Appropriation Act.

But Daily Sun investigations revealed that the lawmakers were angry that rather than prioritise areas of amendment in the budget, the Presidency brought “an entirely new budget which is N152 billion higher than the N4.987 trillion harmonized budget passed by the two chambers.

“Upon close scrutiny, we discovered that the first correspondence to us showed that instead of amending, the Presidency wanted an entirely new budget, while stylishly rejecting the one we passed,” a source said.

A breakdown of the amendment sought by the Presidency showed that statutory transfers is now N388, 063,000,000 as against N387,976,000,000 (an increase of N87 billion) passed by the National Assembly on December 20, 2012.

The recurrent capital expenditure had been increased from N2,386,024,770,349 to N2,418,976,391,494 (an increase of N32,951,621,145) while the capital budget was cut from N1,621,455,655,252 to N1,588,578,805,197 (N32,876,850,055) making a total increase of N152,828,471, 200.
The National Assembly rejected the first amendment proposal. The second time when the Executive asked for the review, a bulkier budget was presented for amendment.

The National Assembly source told Daily Sun that lawmakers were peeved that, “having passed the 2013 budget with just two volumes, the Presidency returned three volumes of the budget to us. To us, that meant they wanted us to re-work the entire budget which we flatly rejected.”
The matter was reportedly resolved when theNational Assembly went on its annual June recess and officials of the Ministry of Finance and the Budget Office reportedly met with the Appropriation Committees of both housesand the areas needing urgent amendments in the budget were agreed upon.

On June 26, the President forwarded the prioritized areas of amendment to the National Assembly, making it the third versionwithin three months. This time around, besides adjusting the recurrent expenditure to allow government meet its obligations in terms of paying workers’ salaries, the National Assembly

FashionDo You Still Buy Okrika? by saintvc(op): 2:05pm On Jul 08, 2013
Over the years, new clothes have become expensive. As a result, many workers and other individuals now go to second-hand clothing markets where they source their wears at cheaper prices, thus leading to a boost in the sale of such clothings.

In the past, second-hand clothes were synonymous with poverty; the energetic andoptimistic middle class bought their new ready-made clothes from high brow markets or large retail stores. But, today, the downward twist in the Nigerian economy, since the early 1990s, has led to a practical alteration of spending and consumption trend, especially among the working class.

The sale of second-hand clothes is now a very lucrative business, as many has deserted boutiques which sell new clothes because of the costs. Second-hand clothes can be sourced from virtually every place in Lagos and other towns

SportsNigeria League Not Good Enough;oliseh by saintvc(op): 12:54am On Jun 26, 2013
FormerSuper Eagles captain, Sunday Oliseh, has expressed sadness at the state of the Nigerian League, saying it’s poor quality was why it can’t produce quality players capable of challenging world best.

Oliseh, said this while reacting to criticism of his comments after Spain ended Eagles Confederation Cup hopes with a 3-0 bashing last Sunday.

He attributed the African champions ouster toinexperience, saying this was a critical factor in the inability of the Super Eagles to defeat Spain and Uruguay despite playing so well against them.
Oliseh told supersport.com that,

“Our Leagueis not solid enough to produce players to beat the world right now,” saying that the technical quality and tactical orientation that the Nigerian league players were exposed to were way behind what obtained in the 90s.

“What was the state of our League in 1990, 1991 or 1992. Our League was solid, games were jam-packed with fans and it was easy for a player to leave the Nigerian League and within three weeks, they were playing first team for top european clubs, that is not happening today.”
CrimeA 400medical Level Student Caught With Stolen Phoney by saintvc(op): 12:34am On Jun 26, 2013
Apparently, A lady in 400 Level Pharmacology stole a phone (Bold5, and the likes) and otheritems and got beaten up for it. This is what happened:
Her friends had been suspecting that she wasthe thief in the room so they planned to catchher in the act. Around 9:26, one of them left her phone carelessly and went to have her bath.

As expected their dear friend stole it out of greed and locked it in her Wardrobe.
When the owner of the phone got back, she couldn’t find her phone. She and the other room mates asked the girl who was supposed to be the thief if she saw the phone and she denied.

Then, they did a room search and asked her to open her wardrobe. She was reluctant. Indeed, she flatly refused to open it. Then they decided to dial the phone’s number. Lo and behold it immediately started vibrating inthe girl’s wardrobe.

They all screamed and yelled at her on top of their voices, insisting that she must open her wardrobe. Eventually, she did but promptly took to her heels.
They pursued her, caught up with her and started beating her up. Instantly the entire female hostel went gaga. Some thought it was a fire, others thought it was a case of armed robbery. She’s in a 4-girl room on the second floor in the A-wing of the OPH Female hostel.

She was later rescued by the Porters in the hostel, and taken to face disciplinary actions.
Christianity EtcIs God Partial???? by saintvc(op): 10:54pm On Jun 25, 2013
I totally think so. I know the Bible says he will have mercy on whom choses to have mercy on, but then it also says, He makes rain fall on the just and unjustabi?
Honestly those answers were not enough for me.
I mean, do I just sit here and hope and pray that he will have mercy on me?
See, I think God is partial to believers over non-believers. I think He was partial to James,Peter and John over the other nine disciples. And of course, how can we forget David, man after Gods own heart?
When Im not being plagued by 'where was Daniel when his friends were being burnt' kinda questions, I am constantly intrigued by the life of David.
I think David's problems began when he tookUriah's wife, and then on top of it killed the man! I can never stop wondering what was going through his head at that point. Then was he trying to cover up by sending the man home? I mean is the power of lust THAT strong?
Well that is another story.
But, God even sent the prophet to point out what he did wrong when david himself couldn't see it.
I thought there was a principle: the higher the esteem you are held in, the greater your punishment.
I guess not.
All Ananias and his wifedid was embezzle money and look where it took them! They didn't even get a chance to repent!
Even Solomon received mercy because of his father, David

now, do you all agree with me that God is partial

Christianity EtcBill To Force Students To Recite Lord’s Prayer Gets Gutted And May Now Become La by saintvc(op): 6:49pm On Jun 03, 2013
About two months ago, Katrina R. Jackson, a Democrat from Louisiana, tried to pass awful legislation that would have all the state’s elementary and high schools reciting the Lord’s Prayer.

House Bill 660 said those recitations would be “voluntary” in the sense that you wouldn’t be punished by the administration for not joining in… but ignored the fact that most students would be pressured by their peers to join in with the majority.

Jackson went on to say that “these exercises [were] not meant to influence an individual’s personal religious beliefs in any manner” and saying the Lord’s Prayer would help students learn about “America’s great freedoms, including the freedom of religion…”

It made no sense and was rightfully hammered in the media.

So here’s what Jackson did. She changed House Bill 660 to House Bill 724 and basically gutted her own bill to remove the most odious parts of it.

No more Lord’s Prayer.

No more references to how saying the prayer wouldn’t influence one’s personal religious beliefs.

No more mention of how saying the Prayer honors “the freedom of religion.”

Instead, the bill just reinforces things that are basically already legal:

Upon the request of any public school student or students, the proper school authorities may permit students to gather for prayer in a classroom, auditorium, or other space that is not in use, at anytime before the school day begins when the school is open and students are allowed on campus, at any time after the school day ends provided that at least one student club or organization is meeting at that time, or at any noninstructional time during the school day. A school employee may be assigned to supervise the gathering if such supervision is also requested by the student or students and the school employee volunteers to supervise the gathering.

Any school employee may attend and participate in the gathering if it occurs before the employee’s workday begins or after the employee’s workday ends.

Any parent may attend the gathering if the parent adheres to school procedures for approval of visitors on the school campus.

The students may invite persons from the community to attend and participate in the gathering if other school organizations and clubs are allowed to make similar invitations. Such persons shall adhere to school procedures for approval of visitors on the school campus.

In summary: Kids can pray at school when classes aren’t in session. (Like at the flagpole in the morning.)

Teachers can join them… when school isn’t official in session.

Parents and pastors can join them… as long as they follow school rules about visitors.

These are all things that are already legal, provided the teachers, parents, and pastors really do follow the rules and don’t proselytize or overstep their boundaries. It’s also a completely different bill from Jackson’s original.

CelebritiesAutopsy Reveals Michael Jackson’s Secrets by saintvc(op): 1:14pm On May 07, 2013
Naijapals Addict (m) | 11 mins ago @ May 7 2013, 01:01 PM

Jurors hearing the Michael Jackson wrongful death trial have a stark vision of the dead pop icon after a lawyer showed them an autopsy photo.
Jackson’s unclothed corpse lying on a coroner’s table looked nothing like the world’s most famous entertainer.
The doctor who conducted Jackson’s autopsy returns to the witness stand for a second day Tuesday in the trial to decide if concert promoter AEG Live shares blame in his death with Dr. Conrad Murray.
Much of what jurors heard for the first time is a repeat of the scientific evidence presented in the trial of Murray, who is now serving a prison sentence for involuntary manslaughter. But some of what is in the coroner’s report seems to give more insight into Michael Jackson’s life rather than how he died.
Dr. Christopher Rogers noted in his autopsy report that Jackson’s lips were tattooed pink, while his eyebrows were a dark tattoo. The front of his scalp was also tattooed black, apparently to blend his hairline in with the wigs he wore.
The autopsy confirmed what Jackson told people who questioned why his skin tone became lighter in the 1980s. Jackson had “vitiligo, a skin pigmentation disease,” Rogers said. “So, some areas of the skin appear light and others appear dark.”
Jackson lawyer Michael Koskoff made sure the jury heard that, even though it had nothing to do with how he died.
Jackson’s mother and three children are suing AEG Live, contending the company that was promoting his “This Is It” shows was liable for his death because of the negligent hiring, retention and supervision of Murray.
AEG Live argues that Jackson chose Murray as his tour doctor and that the company had no way of knowing he was using the surgical anesthetic propofol to put the singer to sleep each night.
Rogers concluded that a propofol overdose killed Jackson, although several sedatives Murray gave him that morning contributed to his death.
Los Angeles coroner’s toxicologist Dan Anderson, who studied the drugs in Jackson’s body, testified Monday that the level of propofol found in Jackson’s body was “consistent with major surgery anesthesia.”
Propofol is a dangerous drug when not used properly, he said.
The Los Angeles coroner’s office found 31 deaths in the last 14 years in which propofol was found in a body, including six suicides committed by medical personnel — doctors, nurses and anesthesiologists — who chose the drug to end their lives, Anderson said.
There have also been several homicides with propofol, including “a mercy killing” in a hospital, he testified.
If not for his death by propofol, Jackson’s health appeared good enough for him to live a normal lifespan, Rogers testified.
“There was no indication from the autopsy that there was anything anatomically wrong with him that would lead to premature death,” Rogers said.
He had no signs of being addicted to street drugs, such as needle marks or disease, he said.
That testimony is important for the Jackson case, since if the jury decides AEG is liable in his death, his expected lifespan will be key to calculating damages. Jackson lawyers will contend that he would have made billions of dollars in the remaining years through several more world tours, merchandizing, recording and movies.
The next witness up after Rogers Tuesday will be a cardiologist, Dr. Daniel Wohgeternter, who will be called as an expert to offer analysis of Murray’s skills and decisions.

I think service should be choice , at our disgresion. Voluntary. It should be something we go due to our love or personal relationship with God. And not due to rules that regular attendance yield blessing or favor and absence from service is a sin.

For me, i can be absent from church service for any reason.what do you think?
