Yesterday, I came across the flawless excerpts of praise and sterling support of the current government by former president Muhammadu Buhari which compelled me to exercise my civic responsibility while venting my personal and unapologetic opinion in print and kind. This is an invaluable support for the present administration shown by the former president; a "living legend" whose "personal integrity" has stood the test of time without ever being questioned even by his worst enemies or staunchest critics for consistently stating cold hard truths/facts, devoid of fear or favour to anyone cares to listen and is interested in the progress of our dear country. However this support is a stark contrast to the empty, clueless and unpatriotic propaganda in the name of political opposition fueled aggressively by the opposition's insatiable thirst for power even with their glaringly obvious precedents of chequered, clueless and bad style of leadership; lack of credibility,fly-by-night M.O of self enrichment from government coffers without any form of accountability, achievement or legacy to support their sudden, newly discovered bloated sense of self importance, fake saviour complex and fiery rhetorics in their quest of appealing to the emotions of vulnerable misinformed citizens with special credits to the greed of their cohorts/footsoldiers for political support to help in skewing the narrative hoping it will give them a fighting chance in their pursuit of power which Nigerians have entrusted to the capable hands of the present administration. The steadfast resolve and ongoing reforms of the government which earned the valuable support of former president Muhammadu Buhari is obvious. As it challenged the status quo with extensive and valuable reforms while building on the successes of his administration. The present government adequately demonstrated it's resolve early on with the removal of fuel subsidy which was long overdue and despite scathing attacks and condemnation from all corners of the country affirming the administration's ability to make cold calculated decisions on matters that are capable of swaying public opinion against the government but are absolutely necessary for achieving far reaching reforms in the interest of long-term achievables. The assessment of the Tinubu led government by the former president has proven, reinforced and strengthened those beliefs that influenced my decision to declare total unconditional support and also advocate aggressively on behalf of this administration at a time when the President's interest in contesting for office was treated merely as a fleeting rumour promoted by political pundits which was met with fierce opposition by politicians who have absolutely no pedigree, clout or accomplishments despite their numerous years in and out of public office. The President, a serial reformer was the only opposition governor in southwest that single-handedly engineered an enabling business environment with adequate incentives to support the "ease of doing business" for potential investments making the southwest a favourable place for investors, leading to a sharp rise in Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) into the region spurred by a period of large scale industrial revolution which brought major social and economic change characterized by a shift from agrarian and handicraft economies to those dominated by industries and factories providing much needed jobs and business opportunities for Nigerians, raising the standards of living with rapid urbanisation and increasing population growth amidst the varying degrees of assault orchestrated by the then ruling party-led federal government on state resources; leading to suspension of federal allocations all in a bid to unsuccessfully wrestle the control of the state's robust infrastructural development and stem the growing political support of Mr President when he was regarded as the most feared opposition leader and governor in the country. The achievements recorded by this administration in its first two years can attest to the fact that Mr President is more than capable of replicating the amazing work and successes he managed to achieve in Lagos on a national scale by prioritising job creation and infrastructural development through providing an enabling business environment for potential investors to help boost Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into the country which will bring significant changes in social structures, working conditions, standards of living and economic systems, including the rise of factories, urbanisation, and new social classes. As Nigerians, our biggest problem has always been the lack of consistency in using cold hard truths/fact as the only metric of tracking sincere and honest leadership and developmental strides undertaken by governments in changing the narrative of this blessed country to reflect the yearning aspirations of a better Nigeria for future generations. But as always we will do our bit to counter false and misleading narratives that seeks to undermine the progress already achieved in this long arduous task of helping our country regain its rightful place as a beacon of hope for hardworking Nigerians providing equal opportunities to all citizens irrespective of their social standing, tribe or religion.
