Nigeria's former vice president Atiku Abubakar has won the Peoples Democratic Party presidential primary. The Adamawa born politician will now face President Muhammadu Buhari who also won the All Progressives Congress primary at the party's convention. The PDP presidential primary was keenly contested with many of the aspirants staking claim to the coveted position.

The final count was down to three candidates, the senate president Bukola Saraki, Sokoto State governor Aminu Tambuwal and Kwankwaso. But Atiku polled the highest number of votes setting up for a final battle with Buhari in 2019

As we await an imminent showdown between Buhari and Atiku, here are some interesting facts about this Nigerian politician, businessman and philanthropist.

1. Name

He got the name of his grandfather. It is a tradition among the Fulani people to name their first sons after their paternal grandfathers .

2. Education

Parents of Atiku were against western education, so at first boy didn`t go to school. After some time government discovered this fact and his parents were punished. Mother paid the fine and father spent several days in jail.

At the age of 8 Atiku Abubakar enrolled into the Jada Primary School where he performed well. In 1960. He was admitted to Adamawa Provincial Secondary School in Yola where he did well in English Language and Literature, struggled with Physics and Chemistry and Mathematics.

He graduated with a Grade Three WASC/GCE Certificate in 1965. Following secondary school, Abubakar studied a short while at the Nigeria Police College in Kaduna .


3. Family

He has 4 wives and 27 children all together. Married to Titi Abubakar, Rukayat, Fatima and Jennifer.


4. Wealth

Mr Abubakar is extremely wealthy and retains considerable support, especially in the mainly Muslim north of Nigeria.


5. Son

Son of Atiku Abubakar is married to step-daughter of President Goodluck Jonathan. The wedding was held in April 2014.

6. Business

He started to earn money in estate business. And in the 1974 he built his first own house. He has a lot of companies in different areas, but the most successful ones are dealing with oil and gas logistics. He is also the founder of Adama Beverages Limited, and the American University of Nigeria (AUN), both in Yola.

7. Politics

His journey into the world of politics started in 1980 when he was 34. He worked behind-the-scenes on the governorship campaign of Bamanga Tukur. At that time he was managing director of the Nigeria Ports Authority.

8. Vice Presidency

Atiku Abubakar became Vice-President of Nigeria on 29 May 1999.

9. Presidental runs


Up to now he has participated in 3 presidential runs in Nigeria. First one happened in 1992, second was in 2006-2007. Atiku took third place and got approximately 7%. Third one was in 2011 and he gained 22% votes while President Jonathan got 78% according to the primaries.

1. Mr. Oyetola was born in Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government Area of Osun on September 29, 1954. This simply puts that he will be 64years old barely 24 hours from now after emerging the next governor of Osun state.

2. He attended Ifeoluwa Grammar School in Osogbo for his secondary school education which he completed in 1972 and from where he proceeded to the prestigious University of Lagos where he bagged a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Insurance in 1978. Thereafter capped his illustrious education pedigree with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 1990 at the same University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos.

3. Since NYSC is a very big deal now, it is very interesting to also know that he had his mandatory one year National Youth Service between 1978 and 1979, at Potiskum, in the present day Yobe State, where he lectured at the Staff Training Centre.

4. In 1980, he joined Leadway Assurance Company Limited as Area Manager and worked there till 1987. He took another step by taking his expertise to Crusader Insurance Company Limited as Underwriting Manager between 1987 and 1990 from where he moved again in 1990 to Alliance and General Insurance as Technical Controller and served in that capacity until 1991.
However, he took yet another giant step in 1991 by establishing his own Company, Silvertrust Insurance Brokers Limited.
He was the Managing Director since its founding days until his appointment as Chief of Staff in 2011 and today he is proudly a certified stoke broker.

5.His other forays in business include Executive Vice-Chairman, Paragon Group of Companies which has interest in Oil and Gas, Mining and Real Estate since 2005 until 2011.
He was also Chairman of Ebony Properties Limited. He had been a Director of Pyramid Securities Limited, until 2011, among other business interests, before his appointment as Chief of Staff.
Gboyega Oyetola is a pronounced Technocrat as well as a progressive politician.

The founder and leader of True Fire Prophetic Word Ministries, Prophet Nigel Gaisie, has revealed that he had on some occasions ended up sleeping with other women apart from his wife.

According to Nigel, women are his greatest weakness, and many of them make advances towards him.

Nigel made this revelation in an interview with Blakk Rasta on Accra-based Zylofon FM.

Revealing why he had ‘fallen’ many times to sleep with other women as a self-acclaimed man of God and a married man, Nigel said he found it hard to resist temptation.

“I am married with a child but I have fallen for these temptations several times,” he disclosed.

However, Nigel said he now tries as much as possible to stay focused, ignoring the women who ‘worry’ him.

According to him, any time he is tempted, he prefers to choose the reputation of his future and his mission as a prophet even though it is hard for him.

Nigel revealed further that he looks up to the anointing of God to strengthen him to win this fight.

The man identified as Joel Acheampong, Nana Kofi Acquah observed, was Ghana's first quadriplegic artist who lost his limbs in an accident.

Ghana-based Gambian actress, Princess Shyngle, has revealed one condition why she will jump into a romantic relationship.

According to the controversial actress, she will only date men who are very rich.

Princess Shyngle, who has warned broke men not to hit her up on social media has revealed the reason behind the said statement.

“I am tired of taking care of myself. I need someone to come and take care of me now,” she said.

When quizzed if she wanted a rich man she boldly said, “whether he is rich, whether he is successful in whatever he is doing now. He could be a banker but just be a generous person. There are many rich people who are not generous.”

The Gambian actress disclosed the name of another superstar she intends to date if she sees that things are right.

It was no other name than that of Togo international footballer, Emmanuel Adebayor who she said she may date very soon.

A young lady who just graduated from Kogi State University, was among victims involved in the tragic accident which happened some days along Zariagi-Lokoja road.

According to reports, the fresh graduate was preparing for her mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), in two weeks time before the unfortunate incident.

Three people were burnt to death and five others injured in the fatal accident on the highway in Kogi.

Nine people and three vehicles–Toyota Carina, Scania Truck and Mack Tanker– were involved in the accident.

The deceased were burnt alongside the vehicles, while the injured were taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Lokoja.

The Okene-Lokoja-Abuja highway is classified among the deadliest road corridors in Nigeria.
