There was this robbery in Guangzhou , the robber shouted to everyone: "All don't move, money belongs to the state, life belongs to you". Everyone in the bank laid down quietly. This is called "Mind Changing Concept --> Changing the conventional way of thinking". ------------------------------------------------- One lady lay on the table provocatively, the robber shouted at her "Please be civilised! This is a robbery and not a rape!" This is called "Being Professional --> Focus only on what you are trained to do!" ------------------------------------------------- When the robbers got back, the younger robber (MBA trained) told the older robber (who is only primary school educated), "Big bro, let's count how much we got", the older robber rebutted and said, "You very stupid, so much money, how to count, tonight TV will tell us how much we robbed from the bank!" This is called "Experience --> nowadays experience is more important than paper qualifications!" ------------------------------------------------- After the robbers left, the bank manager told the bank supervisor to call the police quickly. The supervisor says "Wait, wait wait, let's put the 5 million RMB we embezzled into the amount the robbers robbed". This is called "Swim with the tide --> converting an unfavorable situation to your advantage!" ------------------------------------------------- The supervisor says "It will be good if there is a robbery every month". This is called "Killing Boredom --> Happiness is most important." ------------------------------------------------- The next day, TV news reported that 100 million RMB was taken from the bank. The robbers counted and counted and counted, but they could only count 20 million RMB. The robbers were very angry and complained "We risked our lives and only took 20 million RMB, the bank manager took 80 million RMB with a snap of his fingers. It looks like it is better to be educated than to be a thief!" This is called "Knowledge is worth as much as gold !" ------------------------------------------------- The bank manager was smiling and happy because his loss in the CINOPEC shares are now covered by this robbery. This is called "Seizing the opportunity --> daring to take risks!" |
An 18-year-old boy Olanrewaju Kayode-Aremu, who stabbed his father, Victor Kayode-Aremu, to death. Police authorities said stabbed his 46-year-old father to death while the man was attempting to enter his room. Olanrewaju is the first of five children. He lived with his parents and siblings in a duplex . He was enrolled in University of Ilorin to study Geology in 2011 but was later asked to withdraw because he had very poor grades. Since he was not attending any school, he started working with his father who was a civil engineer. The arrangement his father made with him was that he would be working with him until he could get admission to another school. He was not happy about the arrangement and around 10pm on that day, the whole family had just had dinner and they were watching television when their father received a telephone call. He went upstairs and when he got to the entrance of the room, Olanrewaju appeared from nowhere with a kitchen knife. He stabbed his father in the back, sides, hands, legs over 10 times. The man, who was screaming in pains, attracted the attention of other members of the family who were downstairs. When the mother came upstairs, she found her son still stabbing her husband. The presence of other children did not stop him. When she tried to save her husband, Olanrewaju threatened to stab her if she came close. The woman then went outside and called on neighbours for help. It took the intervention of neighbours to overpower the 18-year-old and wrest the knife from him. The suspect, who was not remorseful, said he killed his father because he was convinced that his father did not love him. He said he was not worried about his predicament since he was too young to be prosecuted. Here are his words: “The case is a very long story. The truth is that my father never loved me and the only form of care he showed me was paying my school fees. I am just 18-years-old so I know I cannot be prosecuted. I have no regrets for my action,” he said. What your thoughts? |
Didier Drogba has hit back at the racist abuse he suffered from Fenerbahce fans in the Istanbul derby against Galatasaray on Sunday. The former Chelsea striker and fellow Ivorian Emmanuel Eboue were subjected to monkey chants from the crowd as Fener won the match 2-1. It was also reported that a Fenerbahce fan waved a banana towards him and team-mate Eboue. "You call me monkey but you cried when Chelsea beat Fenerbahce in 2008, you called me monkey but you jumped in front of your screen when I won the Champions League," Drogba said on Galatasaray's Facebook page. "You called me monkey but you got mad when I became champion with Galatasaray and the saddest thing is you called me monkey and forgot that you jumped when my 'monkey' brother scored twice yesterday... and you call yourself a true fan? Check all the Galatasaray fans comments and learn from them." Pierre Webo, the Cameroon international, scored both of Fener's goals. On Monday, it was confirmed that a Fener fan was killed on the way home from the game after he was attacked by a group reported to be Galatasaray fans. Information from the Press Association was used in this report. |

An incredible day for Chelsea as we secure a top 4 spot and will be playing in the Champions League next season. Frank Lampard’s double confirmed that and also, confirmed his as Chelsea’s top goal scorer as he surpassed Bobby Tambling’s record of 202 goals. A Chelsea legend and one of the best midfielders in the Premier League’s history. An energetic and action-packed match saw 2 red cards (Benteke and Ramires), 2 injuries (Hazard and Terry) and a Chelsea comeback. Scorers : Stats : What We Learned : 1. Frank Lampard – Chelsea legend 2. Lee Mason – questionable officiating 3. Demba Ba in horrible form 4. Aston Villa fans with some disgusting stuff 5. Top 4 secured 1. Frank Lampard – Chelsea legend: 203 goals from a midfielder. What a massive achievement for Frank Lampard and in one of the best circumstances possible. Down 1-0 with 10 men, then he scored 2 to secure CL football for next season. Since his move westwards across London in 2001, Frank has been an ever-present figure in the blue of Chelsea, clocking over 600 starts to date. He has seen the Blues through their meteoric rise to Premier League champions; and has fought tooth and nail to win the Champions League as well as the FA Cup, League Cup and the Community Shield. Whether he moves on or not, Frank will be able to hold his head high, having been a key figure in the best Chelsea side in history and the 8 major trophies won by Frank at Chelsea will stand as a testimony to his greatness. 2. Lee Mason – questionable officiating: Not going to rant and rage about his performance today, but he didn’t have the greatest performance today. Could have sent off Terry and Benteke (in the first half). Ramires could have stayed on the pitch, the Demba Ba goal could have been given, few other calls (Weimann dive, tackle by Ba, etc.). There were a lot of things that Lee Mason didn’t call, that should have been called and things that he did call, that shouldn’t have been called. He could have down a better job, that’s for sure. Here’s the Demba Ba incident. Looks over the line to me, not blaming the linesman for it because of the bodies, but it shows how much goal line technology is needed and it’s coming to the EPL next season. 3. Demba Ba in horrible form: Demba Ba missed a lot of good chances. His movement wasn’t the best, he wasn’t passing well, he wasn’t creating space for other players to run into. He did a lot of things wrong today, perhaps very unlucky to see his effort not given (as it crossed the line). Demba Ba hasn’t been playing well as of late, at all. He’s been on and off since signing for Chelsea. Whether it’s the Rafa Benitez squad rotation that’s got him struggling or whether it’s down to him – I’m not sure, but what I am sure of, is that he’s playing quite bad. He was horrendous today and I feel that had Torres started, it could have been very different. However, I wouldn’t want it any different considering the outcome of the match. Nonetheless, Demba Ba was poor today and has been for some time. Torres will start in the Europa League (since Ba is cup-tied), but even if Ba wasn’t cup-tied, I wouldn’t want him starting. 4. Aston Villa fans with some disgusting stuff: This is going to be somewhat short one, but I want to get the point across and leave it at that : 1) Throwing bottles at Ivanovic 2) Chanting “Let him die” at John Terry (with Petrov in the stands) 3) Cheering as Terry tried to get up, but fell back down This is absolutely unacceptable. Other fans on Twitter were very happy with Terry being down (Spurs, Liverpool and United fans). It’s disgusting. I don’t care what fan base it is and what player it is, you don’t do that. You also don’t throw bottles at an opposing player who’s done NOTHING to you and is minding his business. Nasty stuff. Chanting “Let him die” at Terry while Stan Petrov (who has acute leukemia – a life threatening illness) is in the stands is also very disgusting. Unacceptable stuff from Aston Villa supporters. The minority that did this deserve to be banned and fined for their actions, but remember that the small group of Villa fan’s actions doesn’t mean all of their supporters are bad. 5. Top 4 secured: A very short one, but a very important one. We’re going to be playing Champions League football next season, for sure. This means that Tottenham and Arsenal will battle it out for the last spot. Other Points: 1. Terry and Hazard hurt – missing EL final? 2. Does Lampard breaking record change his contract status?

**SHOCKING!** Nasarawa Killings, 30 Policemen Dead, Others Missing. How We Survived Ambush By Militiamen. **militiamen, dressed in black shirts and caps, kept approaching amidst heavy gunfire as bullets were not penetrating them. **police officers were gathered in heaps and set ablaze by the militiamen. Ten policemen who survived Tuesday’s onslaught from the Ombatse militia group in Nasarawa State have attributed their survival to luck. Narrating their escape, one of the police officers who spoke on behalf of nine other survivors (names withheld) said their survival was only by the grace of God as they were outnumbered and overpowered by the militiamen. He also disclosed that the militiamen had prior knowledge of their coming and laid siege on the narrow road leading to the village, Alakyo, where they were supposed to effect the arrest of their leader and recover arms said to be in his possession. He said, “The road is narrow and they allowed us into their midst before opening fire on us at close range.” Efforts to return fire and scare them into hiding ware futile as bullets were not penetrating them, he said. The militiamen, dressed in black shirts and caps, kept approaching amidst heavy gunfire, which forced their Hilux van, the last van on the convoy, to turn back. “Due to the nature of the road and ensuing gun duel, our men could not turn back and 10 of us in our van were able to manoeuvre our way out but not without suffering bullet wounds,” he said. The recuperating officer added that the driver of their van was shot on the leg but, luckily enough, one of them with him in front could drive and immediately took over. Many of the officers took to the bush but hugely outnumbered by the militiamen who knew the terrain better, they were pursued and killed. “As soon as they killed an officer, his rifle was taken off him.” Meanwhile, the pervading atmosphere in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, is that of fear, anxiety and hope as the families of the slain policemen converged on the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) to identify their loved ones most of whom had been burnt beyond recognition. The Nasarawa State commissioner of police, Mr Abayomi Akeremale, has confirmed that the bodies of 30 policemen killed on Tuesday by a militia group at Alakyo village in Lafia had been recovered. Report any suspicious persons and object to the law enforcement agencies, as that will save lives.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly ready to announce his retirement from the Old Trafford hotseat this week, according to The Telegraph and The Times. Ferguson, 71, is the longest-serving manager in English football having been at the United helm for a trophy-laden 27 years. However, speculation about his possible retirement has regularly appeared in recent years and returned in the wake of the Premier League champions' confirmation that Ferguson requires surgery on his hip this summer. Those rumours gained momentum on Tuesday, with a United golf day allegedly overshadowed by speculation about the Scot's future. Both The Times and The Telegraph cite sources close to the first-team squad saying that the United players have been told to ready themselves for a "significant announcement" from their manager. As of Tuesday night, the club had failed to respond to requests to confirm or deny the reports about Ferguson's future, although New York Stock Exchange rules mean the club will have to inform them of such a significant development. If continued news speculation does affect trading, United may have to issue guidance to investors. Bookmakers did close markets on Ferguson's retirement, as well as David Moyes being his immediate successor. It has also been mooted, however, that any announcement may just see a stand-in installed until the 71-year-old recovers from a July hip operation around the end of August. United have long been attempting to put a framework in place so that the succession is as smooth as possible - and avoids the chaos of the post-Matt Busby era, when the legendary manager moved into a director of football role before later returning to take the managerial reins. A pre-Christmas board meeting led to an understanding that Ferguson would not leave until 2015, and Ferguson recently stated that he will not be vacating his position with the Red Devils anytime soon. However, there have already been informal meetings with potential future candidates. Ferguson, David Gill and one of the Glazer family met Pep Guardiola in New York in October, before the Catalan agreed to take over at Bayern Munich. Despite Ferguson's personal enthusiasm about the future appointment of Guardiola, he is known to have been a huge admirer of Moyes and feels he has many of the qualities necessary to take over at Old Trafford. Jose Mourinho is not expected to be in the frame, though, with a high-ranking Stamford Bridge source telling ESPN that the the Portuguese is "virtually certain" to replace Rafael Benitez in the next two months, and there is too little leverage room for United to attempt any kind of late high-profile coup. However, it is understood that Roman Abramovich is balking at paying any buy-out clause, which may leave an opening for United. Ferguson announced his intention to retire in 2002 before changing his mind and going on to win a further six Premier League titles, with this year's championship crown his 13th in all with the club. ;DManchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly ready to announce his retirement from the Old Trafford hotseat this week, according to The Telegraph and The Times. Having sex while sick can reduce a fever due to the sweat produced. Everyone knows that sex is enjoyable. More than that, there are many other benefits to sex beyond just the fact that it is fun. One is that it can help with a fever. Sex works as a natural antihistamine that combats fever and even asthma. There is a lengthy list of other health benefits as well. Women’s bodies produce more estrogen when they’re having sex making their hair shinier and their skin softer. Sex also burns calories and strengthens muscles. It also sharpens senses and acts as a natural painkiller. Levels of the hormone oxytocin rise and release a deluge of endorphins. These endorphins calm pain that results from any number of maladies, from migraines to arthritis. |
Defenders are traditionally viewed as warriors, not beautiful, but brave, and fearless. When it is the strikers and midfielders who steal the show, these defenders are almost forgotten most of the times. And then you will really have to praise the kinds of Nesta, Maldini, Terry, Vidic, Puyol, and many others who settled their names into the minds of the viewers even while playing from the defense. They became symbols of ‘sacrifice’, ‘courage’, and so on. Was there a ‘beautiful’ defender in the history of football? Maybe Maicon and Roberto Carlos, who played as wing backs, but in the current Generation, there is still hope! And yes, he too is a gifted Brazilian. I am pretty sure that most of you might have guessed whom I am very well gonna brag about now, our very own Geezer, David Luiz. Bought for 25m Euros + Nemanja Matic, in the transfer window which was highlighted for us purchasing Torres from Liverpool, it is pretty amazing how David managed to outshine many others even after being a defender. I won’t lie that I was worried about the hefty price we paid for him at first, anyways, isn’t it rare for a team to shell out more than 20m for a defender these days? Little did I know how priceless it was going to be to see the lad play for our club. David made his debut against Liverpool, for a few minutes, and already he had bullied more than one Liverpool players off the ball. In his first full debut, he conceded a penalty, in an otherwise excellent display. And from there on, there was little doubt over his quality. He scored over Manchester United with a beautiful volley which got thrills to every Chelsea fan’s mind. And in his next full season, he stood among our legendary five of Cech, Terry, Lampsy, Ashley and Didier, with his performances. He even rifled a flawless penalty in the shootout against Bayern Munich past Neuer. And it was said that David Luiz played with an injury in the finals, and refused to let Di Matteo substitute him as he knew Chelsea had no other option on the bench. That is a fine example of the passion he has for the game, and the club. David Luiz has won over the fans not only by his displays on the field, but also through social networking, through twitter. He has never been shy to speak his mind out to his fans, and we all love him for that. What puts David Luiz a step ahead of most defenders is not his defensive abilities, but his ability to play offensive from the back, though it is true that it often leaves us over exposed at times. He has excellent vision to pass, a flawless technique for long passes, and also jaw dropping techniques to score goals, either in open play or ‘that David Luiz’ technique, as it is commonly called these days, for free kicks. While defending too, he is offensive, he doesn’t like to stay back and wait for the striker to make a move, instead he rushes onto the sriker, forcing him to make an error, or bully him off the ball. These are not the normal characteristics of a defender, which created doubts as to whether he actually is more likely to end up being a defensive midfielder sooner or later, a position which he has handled superbly in recent times. As a human being, David Luiz is known well for his childish behavior, yet caring and pleasant. He has done his bit of charity, spends time with his fans, and a smile, that not only has won him fan girls, but also fan boys. He didn’t shy off from openly apologizing to Brentford youngster Jake Reeves for his rather harsh tackle. And more notably, he can be noted for accepting the apology from rival striker Sergio Aguero for his two footed lunge on Luiz, claiming that he knows that it was just a few seconds of rage by the usually timid Argentine. All of these has made him a target for Spanish giants Barcelona who looks upto him as a long term replacement for an aging Carles Puyol, and has offered upto 40m for the defender, however I know that Chelsea knows more than that, either ways, money isn’t a big issue for our owner Roman Abramovich, who is rather keen to make David Luiz the captain of the club from the next season onwards. And moreover, David Luiz hismeslf is more interested in continuing his Brazilian romance with Chelsea for longer rather than moving onto anew club any time sooner, and he showed this by signing a long term contract recently. Yes, ofcourse he is not yet perfect, his personality isn’t, his technique isn’t, he can be seen getting over physical with oppositions, but whatever he does, he does it with grace. Any other player seen laughing after a kick by Rafael yesterday would be called crazy, but when it is David Luiz, you know that crazy just does not quite describe him!

According to the scriptures, money is not acceptable as tithe; it has to be food-crops or livestock. As far as many pastors are concerned, the most important scripture of all is not to be found in the word of Jesus. Neither is it even in the New Testament. That scripture says: “‘Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and try me now in this,’ says the LORD of hosts, ‘If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.’” (Malachi 3:10). This scripture is drummed repeatedly into Christians on Sundays. However, the only time Jesus mentioned tithing in scripture, he pointed out that it was not a weighty matter of the law. (Matthew 23:23). Hebrews says people only receive tithes “according to the law.” (Hebrews 7:5). It then insists tithing (and everything else under the law) has been annulled: “The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless.” (Hebrews 7:18-19). Nevertheless, mercenary pastors continue to insist on the payment of tithes. Latter-day Pharisees Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for keeping part instead of the whole law. (Matthew 23:23). That is what tithe-collecting pastors do today. If we insist our congregants must pay tithes, we must also insist that they keep the rest of the law. James says: “Whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.” (James 2:10). Therefore, if we insist on tithing, we should also refrain from eating pork. We should stone adulterers, execute homosexuals, kill Sabbath violators and restore blood- sacrifices. Tithe-collecting pastors counter this by maintaining the payment of tithes pre- dated the law. Here Abraham is cited as the cardinal example of someone who paid tithes before the promulgation of the Law of Moses, as did Jacob, his grandson. However, such arguments are disingenuous. Before the law, tithing was at best an example but not a commandment. Moreover, pastors fail to mention that Abraham only tithed once in his lifetime. When he did, he did not even tithe his own money: he tithed the spoils of war. He gave ten percent of the plunder he took when he rescued Lot to Melchisedec, king of Salem. But then he did not even keep the rest but returned it (all ninety percent) to the king of Sodom. For his part, Jacob also tithed only once. He did this in a “let’s make a deal” arrangement he offered to God: “Jacob made a vow, saying, ‘If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on, so that I come back to my father’s house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God. And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will surely give a tenth to you.’” (Genesis 28:20-22). This kind of deal about accepting God only under certain self-serving conditions should certainly not be a term of reference for any serious believer. Lies upon lies The first lie pastors tell Christians is what some have referred to as “the eleventh commandment:” “Thou shalt pay thy tithes to thy local church.” But the bible says no such thing. The storehouse of Malachi was not a church. It was a place where food was kept. Pastors hide from church-members the fact that money was not acceptable as tithe. The tithe was a tenth of the seed and fruit of the land and of the animals which ate of the land. (Leviticus 27:30-32). That is why God says: “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be FOOD in my house.” (Malachi 3:10). He does not say “that there may be MONEY in my house.” The food was used to feed the Levites, the poor, widows, orphans and strangers. Pastors also conveniently fail to teach the biblical tithe. The principles of tithing were not laid down by Malachi. They were laid down by Moses. The study of Moses’ guidelines quickly reveals that the biblical tithe has no application whatsoever to Christians and is mischievously violated by tithe- collecting pastors today. According to the Law of Moses, the tithe was divided into three allocations. The first year, it was given to the Levite. The second year, it was given to widows, orphans and the poor. The third year, it was eaten in the company of the faithful before the Lord as thanksgiving for his faithfulness. (Deuteronomy 14:22-28). In the seventh year, there was no planting and no reaping and therefore no tithing. So the next time your pastor asks you to pay tithe, ask him about the seventh- year reprieve. Also ask him if you can give your tithe to the orphanage, or bring it as food items to be eaten in church. Believe me; he will not agree with you because it is your money he is after. Inapplicability of tithes Tithing was only applicable to Jews and to the land of Israel. When large populations of Jews lived in Babylon, Ammon, Moab, Egypt, and Syria, these lands became tithe-able lands. However, tithes were not acceptable from strictly Gentile lands. So you need to ask your pastor how come he is collecting tithes in Nigeria. Servants or slaves who worked on the land did not tithe because the land did not belong to them. Since only agricultural and animal resources were included, a fisherman gave no tithe of his fisheries. Neither did a miner or a carpenter pay tithes, nor anyone from the various professional occupations. So if you are not a farmer or a keeper of livestock, tell your 419 pastor tithing is biblically inapplicable to you. Moreover, the only people authorised to receive tithes were the Levites. (Hebrews 7:5). So if your Pastor is a “tithe-collector,” ask him if he happens to be a Jew. Remind him that, even though a Jew, Jesus could not receive the tithe because he was not from the tribe of Levi but from that of Judah. The trick, of course, is for pastors today to claim we are “Levites.” If your pastor is one such dissembler, ask him if he lives as a Levite. Remind him that Levites had no land and did not have private property. Ask him also how he knows he is from the tribe of Levi, which happens to be one of the lost tribes of Israel. Point out to him that even Jewish rabbis don’t claim to be Levites today because all Jewish genealogical records were lost with the destruction of the Temple in AD 70, ensuring that it is no longer possible to ascertain the true identity of Levites. Therefore, if Jews no longer tithe because the Levites are a lost tribe, how can Christian pastors collect tithes when we are not even Jewish, how much more Levites? If Jewish rabbis, whose terms of reference remain the Old Testament no longer collect tithes, then pastors who insist Christians are under a New Testament have no business doing so. The conclusion then is inescapable. Every pastor who collects tithes is nothing but “a thief and a robber.” (John 10:1). |
JAMB has pegged the 2013/2014 cut-off mark at 180 for universities and 160 for polytechnics and colleges of education. Married Abuja Based Female Artiste, Gina, Pays $85,000 Surgery Fee For Angelina Jolie Lips While some are crying for food, some have more than enough to even throw to the bin. One of the people who have more than enough is a married Abuja based artist, Mrs. Regina Adeola, popularly called Gina, who allegedly said to have paid a whopping $ 85,000 as surgery fee to have her lips restructured to be like the American super actress, Angelina Jolie’s. With this new development, no doubt, the lifestyle of entertainers in Nigeria, has massively taken a new turn. These new generation artistes imbibing all sorts of habits from their fellow American counterpart and the plastic surgery which was popularized by American celebrities seems to be the in- thing for these our Nigerian celebrities these days. However, whatever that is done under the sun must always come to light, no matter how perfectly orchestrated and concealed, that is the case of the not too sexy singer. Strong facts surfaced earlier this week, indicating that the lips of Abuja Based Pop-tar Mrs. Regina Adeola a.k.a. “African Jolie” are Pure Fake! The secret of her artificial lips was disclosed by her intimate friend named Aisha, the two were said to have been at loggerheads over matter relating to men and Aisha spilled the beans of Gina’s deal in Spain where she went to do the lips surgery for $80,000 and additional $5000 for ‘after surgery’, maintenance and healing drugs.

ACN Rejects Preliminary Reports On Baga Massacre, Demands Independent Investigation The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has rejected the preliminary reports on the Baga tragedy, submitted by the military high command and NEMA, saying available, verifiable evidence has shown that the investigation that produced the reports was everything but thorough. In a statement issued in Lagos today y by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party therefore called for an urgent and independent investigation into the incidents of April 16th 2013 at Baga to establish the truth, instead of an apparently shoddy investigation that could only have produced a convoluted report. ”Those who carried out that investigation apparently discountenanced the fact that in today’s world, nothing is hidden. Thanks to the satellite imagery released by Human Rights Watch on Wednesday, the world is now aware of the massive devastation that occurred in Baga. It is actually worse than what has been reported! ”The satellite images support the conclusion by the rights group that 2,275 buildings were destroyed in the clashes. They also seem to support the statements credited to the Senator representing the area, Lawan Maina, who put the death toll at 220. ”Contrast this to NEMA’s conclusion that far less than 1,000 homes were destroyed, or the military high command’s finding that only 36 people were killed, and it becomes glaring that something is wrong somewhere. ”The Nigerian media, now the favourite whipping boy of an increasingly edgy administration, has come under fire for reporting the massive killings and devastation. But those criticizing the Nigerian media should endeavour to follow the international media’s reportage of the events in Baga to see that the local media is not just crying wolf,” it said. ACN said Nigeria would have been spared the global opprobrium resulting from the Baga tragedy, had the government and the military carried out a more diligent investigation of the incidents instead of acting in a defensive manner and trivializing the destruction wrought in Baga by saying most of the destroyed houses were made of thatched roofs anyway, as if it was a sin to live in such structures. ”In case the government has not seen the report of Human Rights Watch on the Baga tragedy, here is a quote from it: ‘The Nigerian military has a duty to protect itself and the population from Boko Haram attacks, but the evidence indicates that it engaged more in destruction than in protection…The glaring discrepancies between the facts on the ground and statements by senior military officials raise concerns that they tried to cover up military abuses’,” The party said while the party will not conclude that all the destruction and the killings in Baga were carried out by soldiers, the truth is that the military, an embodiment of state power, bears more responsibility anytime it is involved in a situation similar to that of Baga, or Odi and Zaki Biam before it. ”There is no doubt that Boko Haram, with its scorched earth tactics, may have engaged in actions that put the lives of civilians in jeopardy in Baga. But these insurgents have no rules of engagement like the military, and definitely do not value human lives. Therefore, the military, in engaging the insurgents in built-up areas, must strictly adhere to its rules of engagement to avoid or minimize the death of innocent civilians or destruction of their property,” the party said. It restated its earlier statement that the killings in Baga may constitute crimes against humanity, hence the International Criminal Court (ICC), which opened a preliminary investigation of the Boko Haram crisis last year, must include the Baga tragedy in its investigation. source nigerian civil right movement |

Obama Withdraws Military Assistance To Nigeria Over Baga, Human Rights Violations The United States Government has reportedly withdrawn military assistance to Nigeria citing various human rights violations by Nigerian security forces; particularly the military, which is presently embroiled in a controversy over the loss of civilian lives and destruction of property in Baga town, Borno State during a clash with members of the Boko Haram sect. According to a report by THE WILL, the US Government’s stance was made known in a private meeting in Abuja Thursday, by the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Terence P. McCulley with about ten members of the human rights community in Nigeria. He said the move was in accordance with an existing law that bars the United States from offering military assistance to any government that violates basic rights of citizens. http://www.informationng.com/2013/05/ obama-withdraws-military-assistance-to-nigeria- over-baga-human-rights-violations.html |
BY EMMA AMAIZE WARRI— A 400-level medical student of Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka, in Delta State, has been arrested by the police for allegedly hacking into Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s phone. The student, who failed in pharmacology and pathology course sent a text message, purportedly from the governor, to the Vice Chancellor, Prof Eric Arubayi, requesting him to upgrade his scores. Vanguard gathered that enraged Govenor Uduaghan asked the vice chancellor to report the matter to the police and ensure the student was arrested when the matter was brought to his knowledge, as he never sent such message. The affected student in a statement to the police, however, denied the allegation. Investigation by Vanguard showed that the matter was causing ripples in the university, as the university authorities, apparently responding to the request, upgraded the score of the student in pharmacology. The poser by concerned stakeholders is: Assuming, but not conceding that the text message emanated from the governor, should the vice chancellor have altered the scores of a student that failed his examination?” This is, however, not the first time the governor’s phone had been hacked into by fraudsters. They had hacked into his Airtel and MTN phone numbers in the past as well as his email address. The first text message to the vice chancellor on July 24 reads: “My able VC, Chief Tony Anenih called me in respect of one boy that just wrote pathology and pharmacology exam in 400 level Medicine. My able Prof, I want you to ensure that boy passes, you know I cannot afford to disappoint Chief Tony Anenih. Am in a meeting. These are the details. CHS/04/05/88406.” Thinking that the text message was actually from the governor, as it came from the number with which he saved the governor’s name, Uduaghan 1 in his phone, Prof Arubayi replied, asking for the student’s name to which the hacker replied: “His name is Imala W. Kelly. My able VC, all I want is the boy to pass. Chief Tony Anenih has been calling.” DELSU vice chancellor, Prof Arubayi, confirmed to Vanguard in his office, Monday, that he, in fact, received the said text message and contacted the governor after the scores of students who scored between 48-49 in pharmacology was upgraded to 50 based on standing regulation of the university, “but he denied ever sending me such a text message.” He said the Academic Board of the College of Health Sciences had met and approved the scores in pathology, which the student scored 46, and there was nothing that could be done about it, other than for the affected person to go for a resit, adding: “That is what I advised the governor.” Prof Arubayi told Vanguard that it was the Provost of the College of Sciences, Dr. John Ohaju-Obodo, that drew his attention about a week after that a text message, purportedly from the governor, appointing him chairman of a juicy government committee was received by him, but when he contacted the governor, he told him it was a scam. He said he wasted no time when he confirmed the truth from the governor in summoning the student and handing him over to the police for cyber crime. “I am even surprised that the police have not charged him to court, as far as I am concerned, this is an EFCC case,” he said. He said the student was currently facing a disciplinary panel for breach of matriculation oath, but lamented that he had not appeared before the panel. A university source said the student had been suspended, but as at Monday, he was seen attending lectures and had refused to vacate his room despite orders to that effect from the authorities. Prof Arubayi laughed when told by Vanguard that he was being accused of examination malpractice, saying, “Did the student give me money to change his scores or is he a girl to say that she is my girlfriend, what was done was based on the regulation of the school,” Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Chukwuemeka Peter Aloamaka and provost, Dr Ohaju –Obodo told Vanguard that no unilateral decision was taken by the vice chancellor, as the appropriate organ looked into the matter before upgrading the scores of five to six students based on the institution’s regulation. source vanguardngr.com |
Minna:- Niger state governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu has given approval for the immediate recruitment of Christian Religious Teachers to commence the teaching of the subject in all public schools in the state. Besides, Proprietors of all private schools in the state have also been directed to re introduce religious studies into their curriculum. The teaching of Christian religion had been tactically suspended in all public schools in the state during the last administration under the guise that there were no qualified CRK teachers in the state. However, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Niger state chapter, Rev. Dauda Maigari during a courtesy visit to the state governor with his members raised the issue on the need to recruit CRK teachers whom he said are readily available to take up the appointments. Addressing journalists at the end of its weekly Executive Council meeting in Minna, the state Head of Service, Barrister Abass Bello said the governor has graciously approved the recruitment of 259 Christian Religious knowledge teachers for all public schools in the state. The Head of service explained that the CRK teachers will form part of the 6,000 unemployed graduates to be recruited immediately out of the 17,000 graduates that registered for the Graduate Engagement Scheme. Barrister Bello said out of the 6000 to be employed, about 1000 of them would be made to teach Christian and Islamic religious knowledge as part of the steps taken by the state government to bring back morals into the youths. “The state government has taken this step as a deliberate way of restoring morality and discipline back into the youths as a way of denouncing crime and toeing the path of peace,” he explained. He said all the 6000 successful will undergo 3 months training during which the University and Higher National Diploma holders will be paid N10,000 monthly allowance while those with Diploma and National Certificate in Education (NCE) will also receive N8000 monthly before being formerly absorbed under the civil service rules. It was reliably gathered that most of the 6000 underlisted will be posted to various schools to teach while others will be engaged in agriculture. “Both Christians and Muslims in the various schools will be encouraged to study both religion in order to have an insight of the two religions as a way appreciating the religions and one another in future,” the Head of Service remarked. According to him the students may not even sit for either of the two papers in their WAEC and NECO examinations but just make them have the knowledge of the two religions. |
As the controversy over the scrapping of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, rages, former Education Minister, Prof Jubril Aminu, has warned the government not to tamper with the agency in the interest of the nation. Aminu, who made his feelings known in an exclusive interview with Vanguard, pointed out that doing away with JAMB would create a serious challenge to the nation’s tertiary education system than imagined. The former minister, who observed that the problems that gave rise to the setting up of JAMB were even more pronounced than they were before the establishment of the agency, made it clear that any attempt to jettison the agency could thrown the nation’s tertiary institutions’ admission process into unmitigated chaos. Aminu said,”Nobody should be talking about scraping JAMB because that would mean the end of the sanity into the admission process in Nigeria. Look, if some people have forgotten, JAMB was formed with serious thinking with a view to removing the challenges that confronted the admission process in Nigeria. “Among other things, it was to remove the problem of tribalism, ethnicity and favouritism that had become rampant in the admission process and pave the way for a standardised method of enrol lying students into tertiary institutions in Nigeria. “It was not perfect but it has helped immensely in setting a certain standard and national leverage in the admission of students into tertiary institutions in the country and reduced undue pressure of parents on the authorities because if your ward does not pass UTME conducted by JAMB, there is nothing you can do to get a place for them. “So, my candid advice to the government is that no matter what it is, JAMB should not be scrapped. If it is not performing maximally, there are many options open to the administration to make it to work better and serve the Nigerian people rather than scrapping it. Aminu blamed the problems afflicting the nation’s education system on poor funding and poor managements and called for a change of tactics so as to save the system from collapse. According to him, the population of students in the education system far outweigh the amount of money committed into funding education by the government. The former minister said it was wrong for many tiers of government to toy with the salaries and allowances of teachers and still expect them to perform magic at the same time. “If we must get it right in the education sector, the government must be willing to commit commensurate funds to meet the demands of that vital sector of the economy,” he admonished. 247nigerianewsupdate.com |
Nigerian Medical Association has said Nigeria loses N132bn to malaria annually through treatment cost, prevention and loss of man- hours. The NMA President, Dr. Osahon Onabulele, said this on Thursday on the occasion of the World Malaria Day. Onabulele, who stated this, in a statement, also noted that the country accounted for a quarter of all malaria cases in Africa. He said, “We appeal for more strategic and robust planning, effective partnership and coordination with investment of more resources into the campaign to eradicate malaria. “With continued commitment from states and Federal Government as well as external partners, we are convinced that a national scale-up of malaria control interventions to protect Nigerians and the world from malaria is achievable.” Onabulele also called for greater commitment to research in order to develop malaria vaccines, which, he added, “would result in long term success in the global campaign to defeat malaria”. He added that there was a need for increased development aid on national malaria control programmes to ensure widespread population access to life-saving and cost effective interventions. Calling for an increase in the distribution of insecticide treated nets and the expansion of the coverage of indoor residual spraying, the NMA boss said there should be sustained training of health workers and enlightenment of Nigerians. Meanwhile, Osun State Government has directed public hospitals in the state to conduct free malaria tests on members of the public. The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Temitope Ilori, said this in Osogbo, on Thursday, at a ceremony to mark the Malaria Day. Ilori, who addressed a briefing, explained that a survey from the Federal Ministry of Health showed that malaria prevalence in the state was the lowest in the country. According to her, the 41.6 prevalence of malaria infection in Osun reflected the state government’s intervention in malaria prevention and cure. She noted that the Rauf Aregbesola administration had spent over N200m for malaria control in the first quarter of this year. Ilori said some of the strategies employed by the state in controlling of malaria included “prompt diagnosis, medical treatment, distribution of treated nets and residual spraying.” Ilori said, “Nigeria bears up to 25 per cent of malaria diseases in Africa, thus contributing immensely to the one million lives lost yearly on the continent.” Also, the Ebonyi State Government said about 96,000 residents of the state were affected annually by malaria. The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sunday Nwangele, stated this while briefing reporters in Abakaliki. Represented by the state Director, Hospital Services Management Board in the ministry, Dr. Gabriel Onwe, the commissioner said the state government had invested huge funds in the Roll Back Malaria Programme in order to tackle the scourge effectively. Nwangele noted that the scourge had contributed to 60 per cent of patients admitted to various hospitals across the state. In Kogi State, wife of the governor, Hajia Halima Wada, on Thursday distributed 1,565 treated nets to various communities to commemorate the Malaria Day. The exercise, she said would mark the beginning of drastic reduction in deaths caused by malaria, especially among women and children. Wada enjoined women and children to use the net as available statistics showed that malaria was responsible for 30 per cent of deaths in children and 10 per cent of deaths in pregnant women. She urged the people to use the nets in order to prevent malaria. Minister of Health, Prof. Oyebuchi Chukwu, represented by the Director in the ministry, Mr. Moody Ayo, on the occasion commended the state government for its support for the initiative. In a related development, the United Cement Company Limited on Thursday gave free malaria treatment to over 500 villagers from Akwa-Ikot-Effanga in Akpabuyo Local Government of Cross River State. The treatment was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility towards the welfare of the host community as well as its commitments to the health care of its employees and other stakeholders. The company also inaugurated a 37-member peer educator programme that would monitor the wellbeing of its workers and their immediate family. The Corporate Affairs Director of the cement manufacturing company, Mr. Ita Ayi, said, “UniCem has as deliberate policy, committed to reducing the impact of malaria through direct intervention as well as collaborate with relevant institutions working to control malaria to achieve its objective.” source: 247nigerianewsupdate.com |

This implies that if your original type was "Paper Type U" and You changed to "Paper Type I" They wont Mark your paper with they type you provided rather they will mark your paper according to paper type U... just saw the news on a blog. |
