The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has advised the President elect of the United States of America, USA, Donald Trump to rededicate America back to God if he wants to succeed. This was as the secessionist group claimed that the outgoing President, Barack Obama had deviated from American godly way. IPOB, in a statement by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful also advised the US President-elect carry out spiritual cleansing of the White House before moving in after his swearing in on January 20. 2017. The statement reads, “We are giving that as an advice to the US President elect Mr.Trump because it has become very necessary because of the romance of the current occupant of the American seat of power with the Islamisation agenda around the world. “The incumbent President Obama chose to depart from the core values of America, a country founded on God to pursue the total islamisation agenda against the Christian communities and against the wish of Americans. “We the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra want to advise American President-elect , Donald Trump to first bring powerful men of God to cleanse the White House before parking in if he wants to succeed and make sure his government brings back the face of God Almighty to America again. “He should rededicate America to God Almighty if he truly wants to make America great again. Obama administration has defiled White House. God is unhappy with the US because Obama has forsaken the godly principles of the founding fathers of America who preached for the face of God Almighty in everything America does. Even America wrote: IN GOD WE TRUST in their currency and other important things in America. That is a sign to prove that America is a God’s own nation. “We will not be surprised if he (Obama) may have dedicated White House to strange gods. This is why God rejected him and his candidate, Hillary Clinton because God wants to restore the lost glory of America.” Trump, a Republican had emerged the 43rd President after a fiercely contested US Presidential election against all odds and predictions against him. For millions of Democrats and fans of Hillary Clinton across the globe who can’t stand a Donald Trump presidency, there is still one last chance for them to see if their dream of Clinton becoming the first US female president could become a reality. Though Trump has been declared as the next US president having won the minimum of 270 electoral votes necessary to be elected president, but according to the US Constitution, chosen electors of the Electoral College are the real people who will vote for president when they meet on December 19, 2016 in their respective state capitals. Although the idea of the electors trying to reverse the vote rarely discussed, such as after the incredibly close 2000 election in which George W. Bush narrowly beat Al Gore, there is nothing stopping any of the electors from refusing to support the candidate to whom they were bound or abstaining from voting. In this New York Times analysis, more than 99 percent of electors throughout American history have voted as pledged. The last time one of the elector refused to vote as pledged was back in 2004, when an anonymous voter in Minnesota declined to vote for Democrat John Kerry and instead voted for Kerry’s running mate, John Edwards. Can such scenario repeat itself in manifolds in favour of Hillary Clinton comes December 19th? Former media aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr Doyin Okupe has expressed joy over the emergence of Donald J. Trump as the President-elect of the United States of America. Okupe on Wednesday on his Facebook page said Trump “contested against the entire american establishment” and won. Quoting from Psalms 33 verses 10 and 11 of the the Holy Bible, Okupe wrote, “The Lord bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought, He maketh the devices of the people of non effect. The counsel of the Lord standeth for ever.” He also quoted from Psalms 2 verses 1, 2, and 4 adding, “Hillary Clinton, her husband Bill and the Democrats are the protagonists of liberalism in America. They encourage homosexuality, same sex marriage and all sorts of societal immorality in the USA. To make matters worse in July this year Hilarry publicly stated that, the words of the Bible (the Word of God) be changed to accommodate “current” social realities. What a blasphemy against Jehovah, the maker and ruler of the universe, the God of all flesh, the only living and Supreme God. The bible says “the word of God is settled” how can we imagine that God will allow someone who will change His word to have power! Vanity and nothing short is of vanity.” Okupe also said Trump’s victory was a clear indication of the “awesomeness of God”. “The events of today is a robust testimony to all, christian and non Christians, about the awesomeness of this God, who has ridiculed all the so-called Principalities and Powers of the world and has used the foolish things of this world to confound the wise men of the world. “God is going to usher in a new order in the world and its affairs. Only the righteous will prevail. “For this historic victory, of a man with no experience in politics or public or military service, We give ALL Glory to the Almighty God and His Son Jesus Christ to whom all honour, praise and adoration, is due.” Source: https://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/clinton-lost-because-she-wanted-to-edit-the-holy-bible-%E2%80%93-doyin-okupe.225956/

Reuben Abati, the former Spokesperson to former President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has confirmed insinuation peddled by Nigerians that there are demons in Presidential aboard called Aso Rock in Abuja. Abati in his piece titled: "The spiritual side of Aso Villa” revealed that there are witches and wizards at the Aso Villa that attacked peoples and government officials that live within. He said the spiritual forces also disturbed Presidents from performing their functions and disorganized the Presidency what knowing what is wrong or right. “There is some form of witchcraft, which causes occupants of Aso Villa to take weird decisions. Working in the Villa makes you susceptible to some sort of evil influences, because there is something supernatural about power and closeness to it”, he said in this recent article before the 'Demons' bestowed on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to hold him on. Demons according to Wikipedia are rather, evil spirits described in various faiths' traditions, such as Satan, fallen angels, and jinns, which are metaphors for the base character traits a human being may acquire and manifest when he turns away from God and follows his lower nature. Although, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari debunked Abati's opinion saying they are against the letters and belief of every Christians. He said: Aso Villa is not my home, I am just passing through. Even this world is nobody’s home, we are just birds of passage. So, let nobody turn up his nose in derision, and say; “he’s writing like the landlord of Aso Villa, defending a place where’s he’s just a tenant.” Adesina said for one year, he has lived in the house allocated to him at the Villa saying “I sleep so soundly, I even snore. In fact, I snore so loud that at times, I wake myself up with the sound. NigerianBulletin put a check through 8 personalities that might have been affected by the 'Demons' in Aso Rock: 1. President Muhammadu Buhari: The Presidency confirmed what seems to be speculations surrounding the state of health of President Muhammadu Buhari, saying he is suffering from ear infection. The ailment knocked the president out of office for 10-day with a vacation trip to London. The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbao took over the affairs of the country within the period. 2. Reuben Abati: For about six months, the former Spokesperson to Goodluck Jonatahn couldn’t even breathe properly. For another two months, he was on crutches. In his recent article, he said he considered himself far luckier than other persons who were either nursing a terminal disease or who could not get it up. 3. Former First Lady, Patience Dame Jonathan: Mama Peace was in and out of hospital during her husband's administration undergoing many surgeries. But after her husband lost the election and he conceded defeat in 2015, all her ailments vanished, all scheduled surgeries were found to be no longer necessary and since then she has been hale and hearty as the 'demons' disappeared immediately after leaving the Villa. 4. Former President, Umar YarAdua: Mr Yar'Adua flew to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia for treatment for a heart condition and after few months, amid growing concern, the announcement of his death came as a shock to Nigerians. 5. Former First Lady, Stella Obasanjo: The former and late First Lady died on October 23, 2005, following a botched tummy tuck – elective liposuction – procedure in Spain. The surgery was scheduled towards the commemoration of her 60th birthday. Reuben Abati had written about the ugly side of staying at the Aso rock villa and its negative impacts on First family. One might then wonders if it is not the same demons at the Villa that has affected lives and health of the first family including the death of this late First Lady. 6. Former Military head of State, Sani Abacha: His death came as a shock to Nigerians and international scene on June 7, 1998. Against the odd that Abacha's death came as a result of poison by some women with apple, which is personal physician, Professor Sadiq Suleiman had said no one could ascertain as no autopsy was conducted as the late General was hurriedly buried by his Family according to Islamic rites. Abacha was believed to be generally healthy but with some health issues. One might his sudden death to the definition of Rueben Abati's Demons affecting people at the Aso rock. 7. Former President, Goodluck Jonathan: There were days when convoys ran into ditches and lives were lost. In Norway, Former President Jonathan helicopter almost crashed into a mountain. “That was the first time I saw the President panicking”, Reuben Abati said this while narrating the Aso rock demons that ravaged during previous administration. He said: “The weather was all so hazy and he just kept saying it would not be nice for the President of a country to die in a helicopter crash due to pilot miscalculations. The President went into a prayer mode. We survived”. The demons also came in form of a bird strike in Kenya. During the 2015 election campaigns, the 'demons' also attacked the aircraft of president Jonathan as it refused to start on more than one occasion. The aircraft will just went dead. 8. President Jonathan's Physician: The former President’s physician living two compounds in Aso rock was also attacked by the Demons though a fire accident in his home. He and his children could have died but he was said to have escaped with bruises. Talk of a Nigerian politician who is wont for being controversial. Rotimi Amaechi will be among those that will come to mind. A former governor of Rivers state for two-terms, and ex-speaker of Rivers state house of Assembly, Amaechi could be said to be lone fighter that won nearly all battles in his political career. Here is a look at some of Ameachi's political battles and struggles. 1. Governorship battle The 2007 Rivers state governorship contest remains the toughest battle fought so far by Transport Minister Amaechi. After winning the governorship primaries under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party, his name was substituted by the party. Amaechi challenged this in court, and had the Supreme court declare him the true candidate and winner of the election on October 25, 2007. The court annulled Celestine Omehia’s election, ruling that Amaechi, not the former, was the PDP’s legitimate candidate. Omehia was barely five months in office before he was sacked. Amaechi was re-elected for a second term of four years in April 2011 and left office in May last year. 2. Amaechi slugged it out with Police Chief Mbu Rivers state was not peaceful with Mbu as the Commissioner of Police. He was always at logger heads with Amacehi over his partisanship in handling political issues in the state. It was a fierce battle between the duo that it attracted National attention until he was redeployed out of the state. 3. Amaechi vs Former President Goodluck Jonathan and NGF The 'mighty' Amaechi also had a power tussle with the Presidency under Goodluck Jonathan. It was over the soul of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF). Ameachi was the chairman of the NGF which pitched him against some powers that be in the Presidency and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Amaechi as the NGF Chairman was seen as a threat to Goodluck Jonathan's second term in office. They did everything possible to stop his re-emergence as NGF Chairman. He survived the odds, and later dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Congress. 4. The battle with 'First Lady' Patience Faka Jonathan While Amaechi had a hard time with former President Jonathan and his subjects, he also had his wife (Patience) to deal with. The battle with the former First Lady was described by many as the real cause of the quarrel between Jonathan and Amaechi. It began when Dame Jonathan blasted Amaechi for conceiving the demolition of houses in her native Okrika to make way for educational structures. Her grouse was that Amaechi looked certain to demolish and compensate the people without first seeking their consent, while Amaechi decried the manner in which the then first lady addressed the matter in public without according him due respect as a governor. 5. Ministerial screening It was drama at the Red Chambers when President Mohammadu Buhari submitted Amaechi's name among other Ministerial nominees. It was a Herculean task to get Amaechi screened by the Senate especially after the Senate received the report of the Senator Samuel Anyanwu-led Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petition, over a petition bordering on allegations of fraudulent practices during his tenure as the governor of Rivers State. Senators of the PDP led by the Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, had raised a point of order, stating that content of the report of the committee should have been made known to the Senate, before Amaechi’s screening. He also added that the PDP-caucus reached a resolution not to ask Amaechi questions. This threw the Senate into frenzy but Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, rose to the defence of his party man, saying that that the report had already been laid before the Senate and that Amaechi being a former lawmaker, he should be allowed to take bow. No doubt, it would have been a mess for Amaechi's political career if the former Rivers State governor had not scaled the ministerial screening given the fact that he practically staked his life for the Buhari presidential project. 6. 2015 Rivers Governorship Elections Nyesome Wike, equally powerful, disgraced Rotimi Amaechi at the last gubernatorial elections in rivers state. Amaechi's candidate, Dakuku Peterside (APC) lost the governorship seat to Barrister Wike (PDP) with a wide margin. Notwithstanding, with the wide margin, Amaechi’s camp never gave up until the Supreme Court declared Wike winner of the poll. The former governor’s consolation was pockets of legislative seats won by his party. But it was not all loss for Amaechi as he had Peterside appointed as Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). 7. Lion of Ubima & Allegations to Pervert Justice: The Lion of Ubima is currently faced with allegations of attempt to induce some members of the judiciary to pervert justice. The allegation was made by Justices Inyang Okoro and Sylvester Ngwuta of the Supreme Court, who are among judges recently arrested by the Department of State Security (DSS) over allegations of corruption. Justice Okoro, whose home in Abuja was among those raided by DSS operatives on October 7 and 8, said he is being persecuted because he turned down pressure to help influence the outcome of the Supreme Court ruling on Akwa Ibom gubernatorial election. In a letter dated October 17, and addressed to the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, Okoro specifically accused Amaechi of being behind his ordeal. He recounted how the former Rivers State governor visited him in the run-up to the Supreme Court decision on the appeal about the outcome of the Akwa Ibom State governorship poll in 2015, saying the outcome would have been different if Amaechi had had his way. 8. Amaechi denies allegations Amaechi has denied the allegation against him, saying he never made any attempt to influence judgement of the court, insisting that it was fuelled by politics. In his statement, he said: “My attention has been drawn to a letter purportedly written by Hon. Justice Inyang Okoro, Justice of the Supreme Court, one of the judges recently arrested by the DSS as part of its investigation into the allegations of massive corruption involving some officers of the judiciary. “Given the level of mischief in the social media, I would ordinarily have ignored the letter because the allegations contained in the said letter are wild, baseless and unrelated to the issues in contention between the Justice of the Supreme Court and the Department of State Services. To that extent, I had grave reservation that this letter emanated from his lordship. “However, for the avoidance of doubt, let me say clearly that I have never discussed any matter pending before the Supreme Court of Nigeria with my lord, Hon. Justice Inyang Okoro, in his house or anywhere else. “I make bold to also state that the only time I have ever spoken with the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, was at the inauguration of the Abuja- Kaduna Railway project on July 226 at Idu in Abuja.” He further said that the letter by Justice Okoro was a poor attempt to politicise what he described as a serious national tragedy and shame. 9. Rivers APC rises in defence As expected, the Rivers State chapter of the APC quickly rose in defence of its leader, warning Justice Okoro to withdraw the allegations within one week or be prepared to face the consequences. The party, in a statement by the state chairman, Dr Davies Ikanya, said: “One does not need a soothsayer to see that Justice Okoro is very confused and thinks that by mentioning the name of Amaechi in his letter, he would deceive Nigerians and play down the gravity of his sins and crimes against Rivers State people and Nigeria as a whole. “If we may ask Justice Okoro, why should Amaechi or anybody attempt to bribe him for an election upturned by both the Tribunal and the Appeal Court? An election widely condemned by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the international community and both local and foreign observers who monitored the shambolic exercise in the course of which over 200 of our members were slaughtered like chicken just to install Chief Nyesom Wike of the PDP in power at all cost? “For failing to report the fictional bribery attempt by Amaechi, Justice Okoro has committed an offence that attracts up to two years imprisonment. We are hereby giving him one week to retract his worthless and satanic letter and apologize to Amaechi or we may be forced to set in motion a machinery to invoke the Corrupt Practices and other related offence Act 2000.” 10. PDP calls for Amaechi's Probe The National leadership of the opposition party, PDP, has called for the probe of Rotimi Amaechi, insisting that his case should not be swept under the carpet. The party, through its National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said Justice Okoro’s allegation has vindicated it that there are many corrupt leaders and members in APC, but have been shielded from prosecution because of their affiliation and contributions they made to APC presidential campaign. “The PDP view this allegation as grievous, dangerous, criminal and unhealthy for our democracy and the rule of law. This information by a high ranking judge must not be swept under the carpet like previous petitions and the report of the Rivers State Judiciary Commission of Inquiry that revealed so many misappropriations of funds by the former governor when he held sway from 2007 to 2015,” Adeyeye said. Every Nigerian, government agencies and several small and big private businesses have been impacted in one way or the other, mostly negatively though, by the continued scarcity of dollar in the country. The scarcity caused an increase in demand which in turn resulted into a hike in the value of the greenback. As a result, several people have lost their jobs, several businesses have closed down and others are reeling from reduced revenue. However, this isn't the case for everybody. Some people, businesses included, are faring exceptionally well due to the situation. They are: 1. Local producers of raw materials. The major demand for dollar in Nigeria is to import raw materials for the production of daily goods. Due to the scarcity of dollar, several businesses have resorted to patronize local producers of raw materials to meet their demands. Local producers of palm oil like Presco Plc and Okomu Oil Palm Plc have both recorded high increases in year-on-year growth. Presco’s revenue grew year-on-year to N11.94 billion from N8.04 billion; profit before tax and after tax also grew to N9.71billion from N4.73 billion and N6.80 billion from N3.43 billion as reported in its 3rd quarter report, results more impressive than they had predicted. 2. Dollar earners Not all workers, businesses and business owners in Nigeria earn in naira, some earn in dollars. The situation has caused an increase in their income status. Website owners receive their cheques from Google in dollars, companies with foreigners as clients receive their payments in dollars, exporters, etc. 3. Currency marketers Nigerians catch on quickly to new trends, especially one which puts money in their pockets. The FX situation in the country has seen the rise of several online currency marketers who advertise themselves on online forums. If you're looking to buy dollar, they can sell to you, at the parallel market rate. Some of them are legit and others are frauds. In Nigeria, masquerades appear during festivals, ceremonies or rituals. They dance, sing and recite incantations. Many of the masquerades are youths with strength to make dance moves and jumps. Some performs unexplainable actions like somersaulting, spitting fire from the mouth. They are mostly known to flog people. This act is rooted in the culture and a cultural heritage practiced by the tribes in Nigeria. Masquerades are different from each other in terms of functions, structures and festivals. A masquerade that will come out during the harvest period is different from the one that will display during the carnivals or during the death of a king. This is not new to us, as it is part of our tradition that is recognized by the society and passed down from one generation to another. In Nigeria, some families are known to be masqueraders and some even bear a name related to masquerades. Masquerades are known to have spiritual powers, magic and charms. The masks and clothes worn by the masquerades are seen as totem- sacred objects which should not be touched by an ordinary being. There is another belief that they represent the ancestors. Here is a list of some of the various masquerades in South-Western Nigeria; Eyo: The “Eyo” which originates from Lagos is a special kind of masquerade that only shows its dancing prowess during the Eyo Festival. The “Eyo” are dressed in white apparels with a hat and hold a traditional iconic staff known as “Opambata”, they represent the spirits of the dead, and are referred to in Yoruba as “agogoro Eyo” literally known as “tall Eyo”. Legend says the “Eyo”came as a result of the need to protect a deity from the activities of hooligans who wanted to destroy or steal it. Alapansanpa Masquerade Also known for his visit to Olubadan's palace June every year, in and outside Ibadan, the Alapansanpa masquerade was used in the past to fight and win many wars . It is said that if Alapasanpa doesn’t go to the Olubadan’s Palace, there will be no be peace and prosperity in the land and that means the Olubadan is a bad person. Atipako Masquerade Atipako is known as a 'load-carrying' masquerade that is accompanied by women. The ancestral rites is chiefed by a community or family elder referred to as 'Alaagba'. Atipako masquerade always carries stones, mortar and pestle on his head. This portrays its significance for blessing the masses and the land. It comes out annually in June and spiritually cleanses the community. Agemo: Agemo is celebrated among the Ijebu people. The festival is a week-long event marked with great festivities, traditional routines and an important feature which is the presence of the “Agemo”masquerades. The “Agemo” group file out one after the other to showcase their skills and perform magical tricks while the drummers beat their drums and songs are rendered to entertain people. Egungun: Egungun is otherwise known as masked ancestors of the Yoruba land which assures the people that the dead are among the living. The festival is set off when the Chief priest of the Egugun Masquerades invokes the spirit of the ancestors ,this act is known as ”Alapi”, it is done when the Egugun masquerade and worshippers dance , drum and are now possessed by the ancestral spirit. The Egungun masquerade is dressed in colourful regalia with a whip ,which is used to flog anyone in the way of the spirits . Oladunwo Oladunwo is very popular in Okemesi, Ekiti State. It is usually present during the Egungun festival of the Okemesi people. Oladunwo is generally believed by Okemesi people to have saved and protected them during the Yoruba inter-ethnic wars especially during the “Ekiti Paraapo” (an alliance with the Ijesha people) war. Obadimeji Masquerade Obadimeji masquerade is worshiped by the Opayinka, Opadiran and Ojesanmi family in Ibadan. History says that any member of the family that abandons the family tradition of worshipping the masquerade will be in trouble for the rest of his life. School Drop Out. It is not a new topic. It has been around the academic environment for quite some time. It is a situation where a student who because of one reason or the other decide to halt his studies. Dropping out, really can count as as substantial loss in the life of a student, and no, should school drop out should not be encouraged. But, should all school drop outs be seen as irresponsible? Maybe not. Going to school isn't easy. The exit of some people out of high school or college owe to quite understandable reasons that are tied to real-life situations and demands. Here is a look at some of these reasons. 1. Unexpected Academic Demand Let's face it: Not every student is prepared for the academic environment. Especailly for those who got into the college/university immediately after high school. Moving into the thick of their time table and lectures, they tend to feel burdened with the amount of responsibility that is attached to it. Some of them never anticipated and prepare for it. They, therefore, become burnt-out and discouraged; so they quit, whether or not their grades were lacking. 2. Real-Life Situations and Outside Demands Unfortunately, as life may dictate, unexpected life situations can occur that are of such a serious nature, the student is forced to come home. Illness or illness of a family member, financial limitations can all contribute to why a student may be forced to quit his schooling for the time being. 3. Fragmented Families And Broken Relationships Just because you go to school with your bags filled with goodies, and all boxed up does not mean it's the same situation for everyone else. Your family is happy. Some families are not having a good time. As we are all products of our families and relationships, some people don't have love in their relationships. They are overwhelmed with hurtful memories that make them lose concentration and take them away from their academics. It is one of the reasons they pack their things out of school. 4. Nostalgia or Homesickness The comforts of home always seem to be desirable when a lonely and discouraged student is away at high school or college. Whether it is an abandoned relationship back at home or the comfort of a childhood bedroom or even the environment, some students can become so overwhelmed with grief, they cannot continue in their studies and concede. 5. Job Force: Short Term vs. Long Term A lot of people who at some point may have 'hustled' their way through to school or worked for a certain period of time may come to the conclusion that making money now is somehow better than investing their time in an education for possibly more money in the future, and they give up their academic career to focus on their job. 6. Lack of Guidance At every stage in our life, we need guidance. Need to say that we thrive on structure and someone’s instruction or care. At school, especially the first year, student may not have the proper guidance and individual attention from a counselor or mentor. Not knowing where to go, how to deal with problems can lead to academic failure and school drop out. 7. Talent: This seems to be one of the rare reasons students drop out of school. And it is very common around us. We have so many stories of celebrities who at a young age, dropped out of school to pursue their talent. Some singing, some acting, photography, and all sort. Most of these people, at a later age return to school to further their studies. 8. Becoming a Parent: This is also one of the reasons student drops out of school, especially for the unmarried female. Parentage is demanding and dutiful. If not without putting proper plans in place it could send one packing out of school before time. –--- Hello, Education is key. The reasons mentioned above can be prevented. And you can still excel in your studies. Be mature. Be Realistic. Persevere. Be responsible. Grow up. Invest well in your future. Education, come what may, will always be relevant. Whatever you learn today is yours and will be with you forever. No much stories on this. Nigerians are already aware of the current Pyramid scheme trending called MMM Nigeria – a ponzi scheme which promises 30% Return on Investment (ROI) after 30 days. MMM stands for Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox and takes its name from its founder, Sergei Panteleevich Mavrodi of Russia. He founded MMM in 1989 and the scheme was declared bankrupt three years later leading to the disappearance of Mavrodi until his arrest in 2003. While some people who were skeptical about the scheme started with small amounts, it is believed some poured in thousands of dollars anticipating higher returns. The RBZ said the schemes were fraudulent as existing investors were ‘paid money not from genuine market investment of their funds, but from contributions made by new investors, until a point when the scheme can no longer attract new investors.” What is a Ponzi scheme? A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment operation where the operator, an individual or organization, pays returns to its investors from new capital paid to the operators by new investors, rather than from profit earned through legitimate sources. Operators of Ponzi schemes usually entice new investors by offering higher returns than other investments, in the form of short-term returns that are either abnormally high or unusually consistent. Initially the promoter will pay out high returns to attract more investors, and to lure current investors into putting in additional money. Other investors begin to participate, leading to a cascade effect. The "return" to the initial investors is paid out of the investments of new entrants, and not out of profits. Often the high returns encourage investors to leave their money in the scheme, with the result that the promoter does not have to pay out very much to investors; he simply has to send them statements showing how much they have earned. This maintains the deception that the scheme is an investment with high returns. The Securities and Exchange Commission has recently commented on the 'investment scheme' warning Nigerians to desist from it. Ponzi schemes and other scams often share some characteristics. Here they are: A guaranteed promise of exceptional returns with little risk Investments are not registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission or other regulatory body Subscribers are usually given very little in the form of formal documentation Subscribers do not usually understand what they are investing in Clients face difficulties when they wish to exit or withdraw even a part of their money What are those things you should know to avoid ponzi schemes and financial fraud? Here are some tips below: (1) Question everyone before handing over your money: Even if you are approached by a family friend, a relative, or a major financial institution, ask: How much money am I expected to put in the investment? What kind of returns am I likely to make and over what period of time? Are any of these returns “guaranteed,” and if so how and by whom? If the returns are not guaranteed, what is the upside potential and the downside risk? How and when can I get my money out? Make sure you keep asking questions until you are satisfied with the information. If answers are unclear or not forthcoming, you have the opportunity and maybe even the obligation to walk out of that 'deal'. If you are told not to worry about where your money is going, that they will take care of it, you should leave quickly. 2. Ask to see and keep written materials about any firm you are thinking of doing business with. Look for academic credentials, professional certifications and designations, and a solid work history. Most professional certifications are backed by associations you can call or E-mail to make sure a person is an accredited designation holder. (3) Check to make sure the firm has been in business for a suitable and sustainable length of time. Do they have offices you can visit? And where they are known? What records do they have of fraud? Do you have good testimonials from people about it? Where have the business been successful and failed? If you can't get satisfactory answers to these questions, run away from it. 4. If something sounds too good to be true—it probably is. Don’t fall in line because someone promises you the moon. If you want to take a risk, try this first: Every time you are interested in something that sounds attractive but incredulous at the same time, don’t leave until you have asked 20 additional questions about it. Watch the salesperson’s facial and body expressions while he addresses all your questions and determine whether this feels right for you. 5. Take more than enough time to think about it. Don’t sign up for anything you must take advantage of that day. If something is good and honest, it will still be available to you 24 hours later. A salesperson who pushes you to sign something right away is not following a professional approach. There is likely to be another train coming down the same track. Back off from anything you can’t take time to think about or discuss with family members. 6. Avoid investments, advisors and approaches that are not clear. Investment professionals talk about investment assets in terms of transparency—that is, they are clear to anyone who wants to look into them. The reverse of this is an asset that is opaque, that you cannot tell what it is, how it is handled, or what is happening with it. If you can’t see the individual securities or assets within the investment, and don’t know anything about it, don't give in for it. 7. Trust your instinct: Your conscience is your guide for what feels right and what could be wrong for you. If your conscience is not clear about it, drop it. 8. Don't dare follow the crowd: Don't be lured by your friends into what you are not clear of. Investing takes time, careful thought and planning. If you're pouring in your savings somewhere, think of the long term benefits. Also, don't be pushed by greed. Success comes through knowledge, discipline, experience and hard work. It is no longer news. Nigeria is in recession. As much as big businesses are shutting down, some others thrive. To start any small business during recession may be pretty difficult, but if you can survive, you will thrive as the economy bounces back. Here is a list of some businesses you can take up at this time of economic recession. 1. E-books retailing: With major growth and improvements in digital technology, e-books is gaining popularity and breaking grounds than printed copies. Not so many people want to stock pile books to read them, and even they want to, they prefer books they can read on the go with their mobile devices and other gadgets. At this time, you can either write these books yourself or be a reseller of bestselling copies. As well, you can share insights on a particular subject matter. Don't be surprised to see people interested in what you write! There may be some challenges convincing people to subscribe and purchase, but if you are able to get stable customers, you will sure do well. 2. Online coaching: Don't you think there are people seeking your knowledge and expertise in a particular area of interest? Why don't you engage your social media followers through thought-provoking articles. One-on-one coaching is gradually fizzling out. People are on the look out for coaches they can chat with and be an helpful guide. But you need to be an expertise to be able to motivate other. You can engage your followers on social media through through thought-provoking articles and live videos on Facebook, webinars, podcasts and Twitter, among others. You can communicate with your clients through Messenger, Skype, Hangouts or even over the phone. This is a blessing for you at this time. 3. Resume-Writing Services: During a recession, unemployment is high. Companies are folding up. There are massive shake-ups in the civil service. Along with unemployment, underemployment (where people aren't working up to their potential) is also rampant. Everyone is looking to polish up their resume. There is a demand for experienced resume writers, another business you can run out of your home. 4. Auto Repair Services: An average man would not want to purchase another car during recession. That's the last thing he would want to do. Instead, he tries to keep his current car(s) running. If you are an unemployed auto mechanic or if you are a business manager who wants to start an auto repair business, you're in luck during a recession. It's probably one of the best businesses you can start. Even when the recession is over, there is always a demand for auto mechanics. 5. Home Staging and Management: Many people have never heard of this business, even though it has been around for a long time. During this difficult economy and the bursting of the housing bubble, it has become more difficult than ever to sell a home. A home stager has become vitally important. Simply put, a home stager makes your house look good and appealing to possible buyers. They know what buyers want and how to make your home appeal to them. If you are an interior decorator, this is a recession-resistant business for you. 6. Tutoring Services: Tutoring services is another job that is virtually recession proof. A lot of parents have withdrawn their kids from private institutions, and may need someone to keep them busy to keep up with academic pace. If your field is a popular field, and you know your onions, this is a very good time for you. Your tutoring services will be in high demand. More so, you can launch coaching centres and online tutorials. 7. Thrift Collection: Thrift? Yeah, thrift collection is a very good business during recession. You ask why? Not so many people can afford making cash deposits at the bank at this time. That's where thrift comes in. So many people prefer to keep their money where they can easily access it for use, other than running to the bank every time for withdrawal. How thrift collection works is that the 10% of the amount contributed monthly is your gain. And in this case, you can have as many customers as possible. This is a business you can start. President Muhammadu Buhari was voted massively because people believed that life can get better if corruption is eradicated from Nigeria. However, in place of a better life Nigerians are now suffering more than ever. It has become a norm to hear Nigerians say ''Bring back corruption and give me food''. Nigerians are hungry and the cries for food are getting louder by the day. The poor masses are bearing the brunt of the recession that has hit the country. If the tides do not change soon enough, the masses may soon call for the blood of the ruling class. President Buhari needs to act fast if Nigeria must contain this economic recession, it is however sad that the President does not seem to have the required expertise in his cabinet. Nigeria is blessed with talented and illustrious citizens who can help Buhari weather the storm. Some of Nigeria's best hands served during the last administration and can help Buhari save the country from recession. See list of 4 Yesterday's Men That Can Help Buhari : 1. Akinwunmi Adesina Adesina worked as Agriculture minister for the Goodluck Jonathan administartion. He is an agricultural development expert with 24 years of experience in developing and managing successful agricultural programmes across Africa. Forbes described him as ''a man on a mission to help Africa feed itself''. He introduced more transparency into the supply and distribution of fertiliser and increased Nigeria's grain reseves during his time in office. Buhari needs this man. 2. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Okonjo-Iweala, Nigeria's former finance Minister is one of the most powerful women in the world. She understands World Bank politics and can help Nigeria get hold of the foreign exchange required to stay afloat. She was part of the team that convinced the Paris Club to write off Nigeria's debts during the Olusegun Obasanjo administration. 3. Omobola Johnson This woman is a silent achiever, she served as Jonathan’s Minister of Communication Technology (ComTech). The growing tech hub in Yaba, Lagos which Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook came to visit is thriving today because of her ingenuity. She also oversaw implementation of policies to enable broadband internet, making Nigeria the first African country to join the A4AI. 4. Arunma Oteh Former director-general of the Security Exchange Commission (SEC), and currently vice-president and treasurer of the World Bank. Oteh is one of Nigeria's financial geniuses. She is particularly committed to ending poverty and raising financially responsible citizens - Nigeria needs her now. There are different types of personal loans a depositor can take from his bank. While some loans may not be tied to specific purposes, others may be for certain projects such as business, mortgage and car purchase. The lender will also ask specific questions from the borrower to be sure it will not turn to a bad debt. Borrowers should understand the conditions of taking a bank loan in order to avoid running into problems. The following are major things a borrower should understand about bank loans before applying for one. 1. Understand your preferences: Before heading to your bank, check out loan packages and see what competitors are offering. You need to be aware of what kind of loan you are looking for, the terms you can reasonably afford, and your goal for paying off the loan as fast as possible. If you are looking for a specific type of loan (auto, mortgage, personal) make sure you find the best deal for you. 2. Ask questions: When you find the loan package you are most interested in, contact the bank directly to find out upfront what the requirements are for loan eligibility. You may need to make an appointment in person to discuss the necessary materials, documents, and timelines you will need to get started on the approval process. Banks have different requirements and it will be important to know what they are upfront so you can be prepared. 3. Application: You need to apply to your bank to get a loan, stating the purpose, with enough evidence that you will repay the money. 4. Interest: Personal loan is a lump sum, which a bank gives a customer to be repaid in instalments with interest over a period of time. The loan can be for a year or over 10 years. Banks charge interest rates per annum. 5. Terms of agreement: It is very important to read all the terms of your loan before taking it. There may be some clauses, which you may not be expecting such as the possibility of the bank increasing the interest rate after taking the loan, among other things. The terms and conditions will show you the actions that the bank can take against you if you are unable to repay the loan on time. 6. Collateral or security: Banks usually ask for collateral before granting loans which could be landed property or other specific assets. When the bank is not asking for collateral, it will definitely ask for another form of security that could be a guarantor or the loan may be tied to your salary. You may lose your asset if you fail to repay the loan. 7. Hidden charges: The interest rate may not be the only thing you will be required to pay along with your loan. Banks may have some other charges such as a fee for processing your loan and charges whenever you default in your monthly repayment of the loan. So, it is important to know all the hidden charges. You can ask your account officer to explain these extra charges. 8. Loan restructuring: You can approach your bank to negotiate the possibility of restructuring your loan if you are not comfortable with the terms. You don’t necessarily have to wait until you have problems with the repayment; you can still negotiate when you are already paying your debt. 9. Credit card: Applying for loan may not be the only option available to you. If you need a short loan, getting a credit card may also be useful. You, however, need to understand how to apply for a credit card and have a good credit score. Depending on the bank, some may give you an interest-free credit for your first usage. Last week, Nigeria's President, Muhammadu Buhari launched the 'Change Begins With Me' campaign. The Federal Government said the programme is aimed at educating and enlightening Nigerians to appreciate the values of accountability, inculcate positive attitudinal change. According to them, the campaign will trigger positive change that will boost Nigeria's image, and enable the country gain acceptability and command respect in the comity of nations. However, the campaign has been welcomed with series of attacks from Nigerians and civil society groups on the essence of such campaign in such a time in the country. On a careful thought, here is a list of some things wrong with the President's move. 1. Wrong Timing: The Change Begins With Me campaign is not coming at the right time in the nation's troubled economy. The economy is in recession. Deadly attacks from fulani herders. Conflicts and divisions in political parties. Inflation. Businesses are shutting down. Companies folding up. Just so much for a nation to deal with at this time than launch of a another campaign when there are other sensitive issues to be urgently attended to. 2. Old Folks: So many people have questioned the appointment and inclusion of the over-aged men in President Buhari's cabinet – with no sensible consideration to involve the young folks in the nation's polity. Why the President choose to do this is for him to answer. Again, the Change Begins With Me Campaign would have been better welcome if young people constitutes the bulk of the campaign. The President needs to understand the role of youths in a democratic state and running a government. 3. Transparency: The campaign was greeted with many criticisms with many groups doubting the sincerity of the Buhari's administration. Buhari, while launching the campaign said before Nigerians demand to see changes he promised them during 2015 elections, they must first change their ways, by doing away with corruption and other social vices. Why should the Presidency demand change from Nigerians when his government has failed to promote change through transparency? According to BudgIT, a non profit and civil society group, the change should start with National Assembly telling Nigerians how N115bn was spent. The change should start with a cogent explanation of why Nigerian government needs 11 aircraft in a recession. The change should start with the government explaining why it released N400bn for capital expenditure with no project details. The change should start with the government telling people how much funds have been recovered and from who. That's where the change should start from. 4. Shying Away from electoral promises: The campaign has been seen as dead on arrival. It is a stylish way of shying away from the electoral promises that ushered in President Buhari's government. The 'Change Begins With Me' campaign is a neglect of so many of Buhari's promises. 5. Unserious Government: One wonders if the government is serious at all with its mandate and programmes. The story now is of a government that wants everything from the citizens but not giving anything back. How has the government changed its ways? What has been sacrificed? The leadership of the country has not shown the right example to justify Change Begins With Me campaign. 6. Illegal Appointments: One would expect the change to start with the President tackling illegal recruitment into government agencies. What has happened to the secret recruitments in the Central Bank of Nigeria, Federal Inland Revenue Service and the Nigeria Prisons Service? Change should start from there. 7. Lacks focus: What does the campaign seek to address? Nothing practical to salvage the hard life Nigerians face right now. Did the government not consider how difficult life is for Nigerians right now before adding such programme to its list of programmes? What effect will this programme have on Nigeria's troubled economy? Nigerians need an answer. President Muhammadu Buhari today launched the ''change begins with me'' campaign. The campaign is designed to get Nigerians involved in governance and making the country a better place. However, there are concerns about the sincerity of the campaign. Why should citizens get involved if those paid to govern the country won't be involved? Will President Buhari be willing to let Change begin with him or will it fall through like his previous promises? Here are 5 Simple things Buhari can do to prove to Nigerians that Change truly 'Begins with me'' 1. Publish his asset declaration form The President promised to declare his assets but all we got was a summary of assets from Presidential spokespersons. Nigerians are yet to see President Buhari's code of conduct asset declaration form. Several requests filed under the FOI act demanding to see the form has been declined. What is Buhari hiding? 2. Use some of the Presidential jets to revive the Nigerian airways During campaign, President Buhari criticized former President Goodluck Jonathan for the amount of presidential jets at his disposal. Buhari promised to sell off the jets. He also promised to revive the long dead Nigerian airways. If 'Change begins with me' is a sincere campaign, we expect to see the President use the extra presidential jets in reviving the Nigerian airways. 3. Reduce recurrent expenditure The cost of running the government increased under President Buhari. Nigerians will love to see a more frugal government especially in these times of recession. Nigerians want to know that the President is not spending billions on food every year while they starve. 4. Release details of his election campaign fund The Goodluck Jonathan campaign fund is being probed, so far no Nigerian can confidently state how Buhari's campaign was funded. As part of the 'Change begins with me' campaign, it will be nice to see more details of Buhari's campaign. 5. Accept responsibility for everything that has gone wrong under his administration 'Change begins with me' entails accepting responsibility for ones actions or in-actions. Several things have gone wrong under the Buhari administration but not once has the President accepted responsibility. --------------------------------- 'Change begins with me' is a fantastic idea but like all other ideas, implementation is key. The Government needs to be sincere if this campaign must work; President Buhari must lead by example. Having to deal with the triple menace of Boko Haram, Fulani herdsmen and militancy may seem too much for a president but, at this moment, there are more to being the president of the most populous black nation than solving only the three. Many would argue that aside corruption, the other major challenge posing threat to Nigeria’s existence is security. However, there are other grave issues that requires urgent attention of President Muhammadu Buhari. Identified below are 6 issues that must be urgently attended to by Mr. President. 1. Flood Nigeria is currently experiencing one of the worst cases of flood in recent time. In 2015, flood killed 53 people, displaced over 100,420 people in 11 states across the federation. However, the 2016 experience seems poised to surpass the bad record. Already, in Kaduna, flood has Destroyed over 300 houses, displaced more than 10,000. In Lagos, close to that number are already roofless while the state still grapple with the sad story of Faisa Mohammed, a 16-year-old newly-wed teenager who died due to mudslide in her Agidingbi home three days ago. In Ogun, resident now paddle canoe on roads built for cars due to flood. More than 20 have died in 2016 and emergency agencies are still counting. More than security, Mr. President in collaboration with state governors need to look into this. 2. Hunger The resultant effect of joblessness, high cost of living and less social welfarism have been grave on Nigeria in 2016. Last week, two people committed suicide due to hunger and inability to cater for their families with one of them shouting Buhari, Buhari, Buhari before jumping into the river. Another case was recorded this week. In the far north, IDPs were reported to be feeding on wild plants while many Nigerians keep the hunger pain to themselves, suffering in silence. It is high time the federal government did something about this. 3. Rape Rape headlines are no longer bad news in Nigeria, they have become normal. And if a newspaper publication does not cover some rape cases, it is generally assessed as not covering all. This is the present situation of rape in the country. The last and most outrageous of them was the rape of 6-month-old little Hajara who was raped till her intestine was ripped out. The 40-year-old teacher that perpetrated the act was reported to have been released by the police and the rape cases goes on, on and on. Mr. President, is this how we are supposed to live? 4. Quelea birds Already, the Commissioners of Agriculture in 4 northern states have confirmed the presence of the birds, signaling a hunger epidemic. The quelea birds are capable of destroying farmlands leaving the farmer at no mercy. Famine looms Mr. President! 5. Religious crisis This has always been with the country but only exists and turns bloody in fractional geographical parts. However, the case of religious fanatism has gone national. Just recently, 8 people were killed in Zamfara state and yet, there’s been no justice for the deceased. In June, a redeemed preacher was murdered by Muslim youths in Abuja. Similar case was experience in Niger. And just yesterday, Christian elders attacked Sultan of Sokoto for ‘declaring public holiday’ when it is the constitutional duty of the president. Hostility exist in every part of the country and something need to be done and done quickly. 6. Lassa fever The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control have confirmed the virus in 4 states; Plateau, Rivers, Bauchi and Gombe states. Worse still, Ondo was added to the state yesterday. The virus need to be curtailed before it spread too wide. Source: https://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/nigeria-6-grave-non-security-issues-that-need-urgent-attention-of-mr-president.221557/

The literal meaning of the word "breakfast," is to break the fast between dinner and the meal eaten after a person wakes up the next morning. If you think about the amount of time spanning between dinner and breakfast, the meaning of the word is very fitting. For most people, it can be up to 12 hours since their last meal, and yet they are quick to skip it as they rush out the door. Here are 10 benefits of eating breakfast and why it should be considered the most important meal of the day: 1. Energy Boost to Start the Day Everyone should start their day off right by eating as many vitamins and other nutrients as possible. The great thing about breakfast is there are so many common breakfast foods that can be considered super-foods because of their nutrition value: Eggs: Including an egg or two for breakfast may require a few extra minutes of preparation time, but the potential health benefits make them worth cooking and eating. Not only are eggs packed with protein and amino acids, they are also one of the few, significant sources of vitamin D, which is important for absorbing calcium for stronger bones. Whole grains: Whether you are taking them in the form of bread, cereal or oatmeal, breakfast is one of the best times to enjoy whole grains in your meal. This super-food is a great source of fiber, which is essential for a healthy heart and digestive tract, and can help reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Vitamin C: You can hit your daily intake of vitamin C in your very first meal of the day, whether it's in the form of a juice or solid fruit. Oranges, grapefruits and apples are common fruits on the breakfast table. 2. Sharper Focus Whether you are in class or on the job, the last thing you want on your mind is food, because once the thought of a hearty bowl of cereal with a side of fruit yogurt enters your brain, there is no use trying to focus on anything else. By eating breakfast every morning, you are able to be more focused and productive until it's time to refuel at lunch. But when you skip out on breakfast, it's hard not to think about anything except food, especially with a noisy stomach that needs to be fed. 3. Breakfast Helps Reduce Morning Crankiness Feeling cranky during the morning is understandable - you probably wanted to stay in bed for a few extra winks, you don't feel like going to work, and what most people forget, you're starving! Imagine going without food for 8 to 12 hours during the day; you probably won't be the most approachable person in the office or classroom. Do yourself, your classmates and your co-workers a favor by eating breakfast to help you deal with any morning moodiness and stress. 4. Metabolism Boost When you sleep, your metabolism tends to slow down. The only way to jump start your metabolism for the day is to start off right with a healthy breakfast. This will allow your body to start burning through calories from the very beginning of the day, rather than in the middle of it after you've eaten lunch. 5. Prevents Starvation When you're asleep, your body isn't burning as many calories. If you delay your first meal of the day till lunch, your body goes into survival mode and starts storing calories, creating fat. Do yourself a favour and take the time to have breakfast so your body doesn't think you're starving and needlessly store calories. 6. Keeps You From Overeating If you prolong the amount of time between dinner and your next meal of the day, it's only natural that you end up eating more than you should. The hunger pangs and the thought of food all morning will only cause you to gorge at lunch, eating extra calories that can lead to obesity and other health complications. 7. Allows You to Properly Portion Your Meals You may not feel very hungry when you initially wake up, but eating a healthy, balanced breakfast can help you plan and portion out your meals for the rest of the day. That way, you won't be tempted to binge eat or snack unnecessarily, both of which are unhealthy habits that can lead you to ignore your nutrition by satisfying hunger cravings with fatty foods anytime you like. 8. Helps Lower the "Bad" Cholesterol Eating breakfast every morning can help lower LDL cholesterol, also known as the "bad" cholesterol. When you skip breakfast, you are creating a chain reaction within your body: First, you slow down your metabolism. Second, fat is stored longer in your body. Third, you have a higher tendency to overeat at your next meal. Fourth, you gain weight and your LDL cholesterol goes up. 9. Breakfast Can Be Nutritious and Delicious Don't let a shortage of time keep you from enjoying a bite to eat upon waking up. Start the day off with a healthy and delicious meal. You can even indulge a bit with some crispy bacon, sausage links or pancakes. Just make sure to have something with a high nutritional value on the side like a slice of cantaloupe or a bowl of fresh strawberries. 10. Eat Breakfast to Lose Weight One of the greatest benefits of eating breakfast every morning is you can lose weight by doing so. Numerous studies have also shown that an increase in weight is commonly associated with skipping breakfast. The best part is, even if you eat too much or have something a little unhealthy, you still have the entire day to make up for it. Eating breakfast every morning is one of the easiest ways to lose weight and eat healthier. Source: https://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/10-healthy-reasons-you-should-not-skip-breakfast.221452/

All is not well with Nigeria. Our Economy is in recession. We have herdsmen crisis. Militants blow ups of oil wells. Boko Haram. Party crisis. Corruption scandals of top government officials. The list is endless. We have a President. Muhammadu Buhari, an ex-military officer of the highest ranking. He became the President after the fourth trial. He came into power with the CHANGE agenda, and defeated Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP. One year and some months already into power, his administration has been engulfed in lots of controversies and failures in major sectors of the economy. With all these issues, what becomes of his programmes and promises? Here is a look at why the President Buhari should be afraid? 1. Economic Recession: It is now official. Nigerian economy is in recession. According to the NBS gross domestic product (GDP) report for the second quarter of 2016, Nigeria’s economy contracted by 2.06 percent to record its lowest growth rate in three decades. In the first quarter of 2016, the NBS said the economy shrank by 0.36 percent to hit its lowest point in 25 years. According to World Bank data, the last time Nigeria had this magnitude of economic decline was under the regime of Ibrahim Babangida, when the economy recorded consecutive decline of 0.51 percent and 0.82 percent in first and second quarters of 1987. 2. Lopsided Appointments: For many times as we know, President Buhari has been yabbed for his appointments that has favoured a particular region of the country. This has birthed so many agitations from many factions calling him a Northern President. 3. Problems in APC: Though the ruling party, all is not well with the APC. The deep cracks within the party as evident in states like Ondo (who just had its gubernatorial primaries), in Kano state, also the ATIKU factor, the splinter groups in Kaduna, division in Adamawa over Atiku's call for restructuring, the crack in Zamfara APC family over move to impeach Governor Yari, Saraki's impeachment and Dogara's resignation are all problems and why the Nation's Chief Executive should be afraid. It's a situation of a house divided against itself, which may lead to its eventual downfall in future polls across the country. 4. Incessant Herdsmen Attacks: The spate of herdsmen attacks, suspected to be Fulani have sacked many residents out of their birth homes, and left so many people communally displaced. It has been an alarming rate of attacks since Buhari assumed office, with no strong measures to curb the violence inflicted by his 'kinsmen'. He is seen as being biased and as he continues to talk tough on the secessionists and militants in southern Nigeria, the Fulani herdsmen from his own ethnic division are ‘spared.’ 5. Budget Padding: The last few weeks have been dramatic in Nigeria's legislative chambers, with allegations of loopholes in government expenditure. The allegatios of budget padding, levelled against the speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and three other officers, by former chairman of the House of Representatives Appropriation Committee, Abdulmumin Jibrin, and the denial and counter-accusations have reinforced the escalating degeneration of lawmaking in the National Assembly. Those involved in this padding scandal are members of President Buhari's party. And this is just with the 2016 budget. What will happen to 2017, 2018, 2019 budgets? 6. Boko Haram & Militancy in the Niger Delta: The activities of militants in the Niger Delta region have have crippled the nation's economy. The continued crisis in the Niger Delta fuelled by the activities of the ‘Niger Delta Avengers’, among other groups is cause for concern. The relentless blow ups of the country’s oil infrastructure have slashed its crude output. Experts say attacks by the new militant group has shut down nearly 50 percent of output and production is down to 1.1 million barrels per day. The Boko Haram crisis is also there. If President Muhammadu Buhari fails to find lasting solution to these issues, the Nation would be more worrisome about their mandate and APC's programmes. 7. Change Agenda, The Change We See Now, And the Troubled Assembly: The All Progressives Congress came into power with the mantra of Change, but the reverse is the case now. People are already in doubt and afraid with the change promised and what we can see now. The National Assembly has been lazy and paralysed with the two presiding officers facing corruption charges. The ruling party, APC, with its major members in both chambers may be in trouble with the nature of problems they are in. What becomes of the troubled assembly? Being elected governor is a big thing in Nigeria. After your victory, you get congratulatory messages from prominent Nigerians in your state and all over the country. Nigerian governors are regarded as powerful beings with lots of resources at their disposal. They direct and manage the affairs of their states and one can easily regard them as the CEO of their respective states. Here are several things common with them: Most of them seem unqualified for their position A lot of Nigerian governors are square pegs in round holes. Most of them got to their positions by playing dirty politics. It’s believed that they either bribed their way to the top, or they’re appointed as stooges of a certain godfather. As a result, they tend to the whims of their godfather when they’re in power or resolve to gain back the money they lost in bribes. They like travelling. A. Lot We have many governors who would do well if they chose tourism as a career. Nigerian governors are fond of jetting around the globe, sometimes as part of the convoy of President Muhammadu Buhari, for curious reasons. It’s okay to visit places to gain exposure but it borders on being ridiculous when it’s not moderate. Furthermore governors should’ve been exposed before becoming governors. They are perceived to be corrupt Each Nigerian governor has his own cloak of corruption. Nigeria governors have all been accused of corruption at one point or the other. There have been petitions accusing governors of gross mismanagement of state funds submitted to the EFCC and ICPC. Although it’s yet to be established if some of these claims are true or not, a faction of the public, if not everybody, believe these claims are true. They offer little to develop their states It’s a pity but this is true. Most governors, after being sworn in, only maintain the status quo of their states, or worse, make things worse. Few Nigerian governors have rolled up their sleeves and managed the funds at their disposal judiciously for the betterment of their states. A number of them have difficulty paying salary of workers, which is a basic thing every governor should be able to do. Apart from this, governors hardly find ways to generate income internally or develop core areas of their states. Some states are labeled poor and their governments seem contentedly satisfied with this tag. They depend too much on FEC allocation This is obvious. Many Nigerian state governments will crumble if they don’t get that monthly “stipend” from the federal government. Payment of salaries became tough for Ekiti, Imo and other states when allocation from the government reduced due to the drop in crude oil prices. What if you don’t get FEC allocation? You’re a governor; you’re mandated to improve the economy of your states. What policies are you introducing to make your states better and attractive? They look, behave all powerful Despite being perceived corrupt and doing little to alleviate the problems of their states, many governors use the power at their disposal to the maximum, in the wrong manner, some would say. Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti on Monday signed an Anti- Grazing bill into law in a bid to curb the alleged inordinate activities of herdsmen in the state. The bill was sponsored by the state chief executive after the killing of two persons by suspected herdsmen in Oke Ako community in Ikole Local Government Area of the state. Fayose also threatened to charge any cattle rearer found in the state carrying arms while grazing with terrorism. He said this while addressing stakeholders and leaders of communities across the 16 local government areas of the state in Ado Ekiti, the State’s capital. The Act was read to the Assembly of all traditional rulers, chiefs and legislators by the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Kola Oluwawole. Here are 6 important highlights of the new law: 1. Sad. We could not save Mayowa Ahmed. A beautiful young lady with a budding career in catering and management, but lost the battle to ovarian cancer. Her story and so many circumstances that led to her death will for a while linger in the hearts of Nigerians who within 3 days after taking up the campaign raised about eighty million naira in her local account, and USD100, 000 in her Go-fund me account. Here are 5 lessons we should all learn from the whole issue. Educate Ourselves: Even though we face the toughest of times, there is this thing that will always bind us together – Humanity. Compassion. We are all such a generous soul easily moved by pathetic situations, that we didn't even care to look up on the the stage the ovarian cancer was, and its survival rates. Not many of asked for the papers before we poured in our savings. Such a beautiful moment to be a Nigerian, it reminds us that humanity holds a special place in our hearts. And it's commendable. But when issues like this arise, we should take time to educate ourselves very well, pass the knowledge on to people – so that we won't be burnt in the fire of its grave consequences. Celebs Should Stop Crying Wolf: Celebrities are adorable. Especially those ones that have taken up one humanitarian cause or the other. Their fame has been useful in charting new cause and giving hope to the less privileged. For a a Drama Queen like Toyin Aimhaku – whose talent cannot be underrated in the movie industry, and who perhaps wanted to take the glory of #SaveMayowa for herself, should always think before they act. Her efforts is laudable – putting her name and her acting career on the line to save a terminally ill patient. She was lashed at for being so hasty and rushing to judgement and denouncing the young woman's family, and joining the band wagon to tag it a scam. The criticism is: Why be part of it since you knew it was a scam? She didn't do her research before crying wolf? Perhaps she wanted to take the glory of Mayowa's survival? So many yabs thrown at her character and temperament. It would have been sensible if she was sure of the whole issue before tagging it a scam. Professional Reportage: Hasty Reportage Kills. We live in a modern age. Social media platforms and other technology channeles have been responsible for helping people and uplifted tens and thousands of people from misery. Need to say that excellent reportage makes a difference in the lives of people everywhere. Especially with online media platforms and the so-called gist bloggers, we are so quick to break news – we want to be first to inform the public. But this rush should not rub off the place of professionalism and getting to know the truth behind the whole issue. The fact that some online platforms rushed to tag it a scam changed the perception of Nigerians that donated generously to the cause and started having second thought towards their kind gesture. The ability to inquire of both sides of the story, and present it as it is is what Professionalism is important. Our audience should be informed, and our contents should not be divisive, and capable of spreading hate. Our Health System: Nigeria health care system is in shambles. From ill-diagnosis to the delay at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital to Reddington – swinging a terminally ill patient up and down is a cause of concern and worry how porous how healthcare system is. The hospital was also so quick to cleanse off its hands from the issue, with claims that they already informed the family she won't survive it. Family Members Should Communicate the Truth: One thing stands out in #SaveMayowa Case; the family members did not communicate the truth of the matter. This was responsible for why the story was blown beyond proportion. According to Aramide Kasumu, founder of Lifestake Foundation and one of those who worked to raise funds for #SaveMayowa, she said: “It started from her ovaries and moved to her liver, which gave her liver metastasis. Basically, it is not curable, and if it is curable, it is the just Grace of God. When I got the story, I took it up, and I called the CMD to get her to LUTH. Before she got to LUTH, they were already waiting for her. When I brought her to LUTH, the first thing the doctor said to me is that no airline will carry her, because she is too frail to travel. Before I brought her to LUTH, she was at home. It was almost as if they (the family) already knew what the case was. You know how the doctors will tell you that the cancer is already in the last stage, let her stay home”. “They said they had already called the hospital in America, they needed $100,000. They mailed it to me, I looked at it. It now dawned on me that the hospital in America said treatment is going to cost $3,000 – $30,000 per treatment, and she needed 10-50 treatments. Technically, what she needed was N150 million, but that wasn’t what they raised. All they just picked was the $100,000. “The hospital also said to them that she needs $1,780 for an invitation. There was no invitation, no visa, nothing! So they already knew what they were doing from the onset.” And also, there were conflicting travel arrangements. First, we learnt that she would be flown to the United States – and that was what the donations were premised on; later Dubai, and then South Africa, where she later gave up the ghost. It was after the whole issue was 'out-of-hand', that was when the family members had to come out with a statement. That was pretty too late. – Hearts out to Mayowa Ahmed's family. And we also wish Mayowa an eternal rest. #SaveMayowa's case should serve as a lesson for every girl, young lady to do PAP Smear at least every 3 years. There are certain cancers that young girls are checked for at least once every three years. Pap smear (also called a Pap test) is a screening procedure for cervical cancer. It tests for the presence of precancerous or cancerous cells on the cervix, the opening of the uterus. It is a confirmed fact that Nigerians don’t watch Nigerian football league games; or more appropriately put, Nigerians don’t like watching Nigerian football league games- either live or on the TV. This hasn’t always been so. There were times where a match between 3SC and Kano pillars drew tens of thousands of viewers across the country but nowadays few Nigerians show interest in the final of the league cup competition. Here are 5 Reasons Why: The games are boring This is the major reason Nigerians don't want to watch Kano Pillars vs Enyimba nowadays. The games are characterized by unattractive, uninspiring tactics and are so boring. Why would one sit in front of the TV for 2 hours to watch some police type of football? The reason we watch the EPL is because it is fast paced and interesting. The Nigerian league isn’t. Horrible Pitches If you are strong enough to watch jaded Nigerian League football games, the horrid pitches will make you to reconsider. Instead of being replete with green grasses, the fields are multicolored, with brown, the dominant color. The pitches of some Nigerian league clubs aren’t even suitable for running not to talk of playing football. Poor Coverage Due to sponsorship constraints or one issue or the other, most of these matches aren’t shown on TV. The ones that are shown however are covered poorly. Sometimes just one camera is used to cover the whole game, at a poor angle. You’d have to squint at the television set to see who’s actually with the ball. At other times there are no replays. Apart from this, the games aren't discussed in the media like the European leagues. Too much Predictability When a football game is too predictable, one loses the urge to watch it. In the Nigerian league, the home team almost always wins. In the league, the worst home record is better than the best away record. In addition The Nigerian league is bedeviled with match fixing claims. What’s the essence of watching a football game if just one team is playing to win? The other team, having been bribed, hand the 3 points to their opponents easily. Public contempt The average Nigerian see the NFF as a corrupt body and the League Management company LMC, organizers of the league as an unserious entity. The league is characterized by poor organization and embarrassing stories of referee intimidation, unpaid player salaries and so on. All these contribute to the lack of interest shown in it by Nigerians. Feel free to cuss out/add more reasons. The news of former Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, eating wild plants came as a shocker at the beginning of this week. According to the report by Daily Trust, hundreds of returnees in communities liberated from Boko Haram in Yobe state have resorted to eating a wild plant and coffee pod. Worse still, the returnees most of whom have no homes, relatives or handiwork took to begging to raise a means of survival. These developments leave more questions to desire of the federal government capability not only to defeat Boko Haram on the battle ground but also in the liberated communities. Here are 6 key things President Buhari should put in place to make life better for the over 1, 491,706 returning IDPs. 1. Direct empowerment Though most of them have lost contact with the peaceful world for a while, the skills expended on their engagement before the war would still be intact. The federal government should develop a means of identifying these skills and set them up in sustainable capacity. 2. Food A typical IDP has 3 major problems; food, food and food. As widely reported in the media, one of the basic challenges in the camps is the issue of food. The federal government should take responsibility for this for at least 2 to 3 months after returning home. This is to allow them settle to normal lifestyle. 3. Health In the camps, the health condition is worse; poor sanitation, lack of toilets, poor access to clean water list as major challenges which sometimes lead to child killer disease outbreaks like cholera, malnutrition and the likes. In a bid to prevent establish a healthy lifestyle for them, attention should be focused on the health of returnees. 4. Education The federal government should take good interest in the curriculum of the schools. The advantage of this are many; first, there will be a proper monitoring as to the content in order to prevent wrong teaching which may instigate another religious extremism. Secondly, such curriculum need to be rehabilitative, the children have to forget the horrible experiences of war in order to forge on with life. 5. Security Boko Haram insurgents cannot be totally wiped out. Thus, the government should provide adequate security to keep the lives of returnees in safe condition. This could take the form of community policing in order to reduce cost. 6. Screening The screening should take many forms; security, health, education. Security in order to prevent harmful infiltrators, health in order to prevent an epidemic and education in order to prevent extreme teachings. The 2016 Rio Olympics is about winding up with just two days left for the event which comes up once in four years. The games just like London 2012 has not been a good outing for Nigeria. With no medal won yet, Team Nigeria is prepared to return home just as they went to Brazil. The only hope of winning a medal lies with the men’s football team who will fight for a bronze against Honduras in a third place match on Saturday. Here are 8 games Nigeria would have succeeded easily if introduced to the Olympics: 1. Ludo Yes! Ludo, not Judo. Nigerians in every region of the country are known for the love of this game. Children from as low as 4 years of age plays ludo while the elderly, no matter how old are not left out of the game. How good would it have been if organisers introduce this game? 2. Baba Ijebu Baba Ijebu is another name for lottery. Many Nigerians now have the habit of playing it. More lottery companies now established and many Nigerians stake even their last sweat to play. Now, they know Nigeria will win and that’s why they didn’t introduce it. 3. Conductorism From Lagos to Kaduna, Onitsha to Kano, Ibadan, Aba and other cities in the country, Nigeria boasts of bus conductor who would jump on moving bus at full speed, who would perform unbelievable stunts to entice passengers. Nigeria would have had a good outing in such game. Though Brazil which is also noted for this will give them a run for their money. 4. Gluttony Nigerians can eat well no doubt about that. There was the case of a bricklayer who consumed 17 wraps of fufu and another who took a bag of sachet water. There was also the case of one who would not cook less than a bowl of beans to be accompanied by 2 loaves of N250 bread. Why not allow us participate in games like this? 5. Masquerading This would also have been a perfect game for Nigeria. The country boasts of colourful and adorable masquerades. 6. Padding Rio organisers may not understand what it means but Nigerians do. A game of subtraction and addition in a non-mathematical form would have create a great prospect of winning medal for the country. 7. Gele-Tying This is a game Nigeria will no doubt beat other countries no matter the number of times the contest. Even without professional training, Nigerians know how to do their things. 8. Draft Some call it the game of old men. Draft has been in existence for unremembered times, keeping both the young and old busy. With a number of tricks evolved over the years, Nigeria should be able to scoop gold medal in a draft competition. 9. Farting Nigerians can play good melodies from their farts. Any other? One time military head of state, Muhammadu Buhari, was sworn in as President of the Democratic Republic of Nigeria on the 29th of May 2015, after a historic win at the polls. Buhari contested under the All Progressive Congress, APC, and defeated incumbent President, Goodluck Jonathan, by about 2.5 million votes. His victory was greeted with joy in major parts of the nation as PDP had been in power for the past 16 years, and Nigerians, many Nigerians wanted CHANGE. It has been over a year since Buhari has become president and today, the ubiquitous love he earlier enjoyed has waned considerably. Generally, the belief is that things have gone from bad to worse. Many Nigerians are fed up with his tenure and here are several reasons why: One-sided anticorruption war President Muhammadu Buhari during his campaign promised to stamp out corruption in Nigeria. True to his word, the EFCC became quite active after he became President. The agency, under a new leadership has invited/ arrested several top government officials for questioning. EFCC operatives have also invaded homes of several prominent Nigerians with questionable riches in a bid to arrest them. However, a large percentage of those arrested are members of the opposition party, PDP. Several APC bigwigs, like Babatunde Fashola and Rotimi Amaechi, who have had several corruption petitions against them weren’t probed. Instead, Buhari made them ministers. Lopsided Political Appointments Apparently, the era of nepotism isn’t over. The easiest way to snatch a position in government is to be related to Buhari or one of his relatives, it seems. Buhari doesn’t seem to consider federal character in his appointments as most of them are seen to tilt towards the north. All of Nigeria’s security agency heads are from the same part of the country and the southern part is complaining bitterly about this. Increased Inflation Rate Nigeria’s inflation rate has been rising steadily since Buhari became president. This means food prices, and the price of other goods are on the rise. This doesn’t bode well for the average Nigerian as most of them are low or middle income earners. To make matters worse, the increased food costs didn’t usher in an increase in income as well. Several businesses have closed down and most governors have been unable to pay the salaries of their workers. Depreciation of the naira “I’ll Make One Dollar Equal to One Naira!” This was Buhari’s proclamation during his campaign days in 2015. One would think policies to stimulate this would be put in place after he gains power. Sadly, the opposite has been the case. The naira has lost twice its value since Buhari became president. It currently exchanges at about N390 per dollar. Before Buhari became president, it was around N165 per dollar. The government keeps battling to save the currency but the naira keeps falling, hitting record lows in the process. Economic Recession Recently, Nigeria lost its position as the largest economy in Africa to South Africa. This is because it has been shrinking the past few quarters. As a result Nigeria’s economy has entered recession. This fact alone has made several Nigerians lose respect for the promising government of Buhari. Lack of decisive decision to end herdsmen attacks Farmers clash with herdsmen, mostly Fulanis, isn’t a new thing. However the rate at which herdsmen attack farmers, citizens and communities have been alarming since Buhari came into power. Although Buhari has spoken out to condemn the attacks purportedly perpetrated by his kinsmen, little is being done to prevent further attacks or curb the menace. General economic hardship Nigerians are groaning. Things are getting worse. The crash in crude oil prices coupled with the incessant attack on oil installations has dealt a deadly blow on Nigerians revenue generation. Although government is trying to raise funds through tax, the country is broke. This has filtered to every sector of the country and is felt by every Nigerian in one way or the other. For the second time in less than three months , the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) will today gather for its National Convention at Port-Harcourt, the Rivers State Capital. The party has been embroiled in tense leadership crisis since it surrendered power to the now ruling All Progressives Party after 16 years. The party on May 21 held parallel conventions in Abuja and Port Harcourt. The events ended in crisis. Rather than the proposed election, the party settled for a caretaker committee led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi. But Makarfi has since been embroiled in a battle of supremacy with Acting National Chairman Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff. Ali Modu Sheriff-led faction of the executive, which was dissolved by the Port Harcourt. Convention in May, has continued to drag the leadership of the party through the courts, while also recruiting converts by the day. As at the last count, the party is engrossed in no fewer than 15 court cases, all relating to the struggle for the national control. In some , the convention will start, but will it again end in crisis? Here is a look at some reasons why. 1. Conflicting court judgement: Two court judgements will cause the PDP Convention to fail again. Justice Ibrahim Watila of the Port Harcourt court gave the greenlight for the convention, but his Abuja counterpart, Justice Okon Abang stopped the convention. The judges were ruling on separate suits brought by the PDP caretaker committee led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi and the National Executive Committee (NEC) chaired by Senator Ali Modu Sheriff. Justice Watila refused the request of the Sheriff camp to joined in the suit filed by the Convention Planning Committee secretary Senator Ben Obi against the police, Department of State Services (DSS) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Justice Ibrahim Watila of Port Harcourt ordered the convention to go on because there was nothing before him seeking otherwise, but Justice Okon Abang of Abuja suspended the convention because it was being planned in disobedience of his order. Watila ordered acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris, Commissioner of Police Francis Mobolaji Odesanya and Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) Lawal Musa Daura to ensure “adequate security at the meeting”. He also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to monitor the convention. 2. Zoning and Dokpesi Factor: AIT Boss, Chief Aleogho Raymond Dokpesi has been visiting all around and campaigning for the National Chairmanship of the Party. He is only candidate to have toured all the six geopolitical zones ahead of today's convention. With Dokpesi being the only candidate in the race from the South-South, what will become of the zoning formula to have South West as the National Chair if Dokpesi wins? 3. South West Zoning Palava: Monday 8, August, the Southwest zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) met at the Government House, Alagbaka, Akure, Ondo State in an attempt to present consensus candidates for positions zoned to the region by the Southern Caucus. The Southern Caucus of the Party in Port Harcourt has earlier zoned the office of National Chairman, National Auditor and Deputy National Publicity Secretary to the zone. At the end of the meeting, the caucus agreed to peg the National Chairmanship position between Lagos and Ogun State, Deputy National Publicity Secretary zoned to Oyo/Osun, National Treasurer zoned to Ondo/Ekiti. The new arrangement streamlined the position of the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party to three individuals. The former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, who is the only aspirant from the State; Chief Olabode George and Jimi Agbaje, both from Lagos State. Last week, Chief Bode claimed Jimi Agbaje betrayed him like Judas did to Jesus Christ, and requests that he backs out of the race. Is this not an indicator that the South West zone of the party will eventually end in crisis? 4. Ali Modu Sheriff Factor: Factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has described as a hoax, the interlocutory order given by Port Harcourt division of the Federal High Court to the National Caretaker Committee of the party to hold today’s National Convention. Sheriff has been a major bone in the throat of the esrtwhile ruling party. His faction elected Matthew Iduoriyekemwen as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Edo State September 10 gubernatorial election. We should not be surprised to see another convention. 5. Aggrieved Candidates May Seek Court Injunction: Because of the many troubles in the PDP, after today's convention, some of its aspirants may head to court to either seek that the convention be declared null and void or that some of the elected officers were rigged into office. 6. PDP Governors Would Wield Their Powers Again: Already, the governors in the Peoples Democratic Party are seen as the most powerful steering the ship of the party in their direction. They played a major role in the installation and removal of embattled Ali Modu Sheriff. They also successfully installed Ahmed Makarfi with a condition that he would conduct the convention. A faction of the governors annointed Jimi Agbaje as candidate for the National Chair. Raymond Dokpesi, a strong contender has also stated that the party would go down if the governors go ahead with imposition. 7. Today's Convention Could Further Multiply The Factions And Tear The Party: PDP is embroiled in factions. The party is yet to organise itself. It has been the major divisive factor in the party till date. The last convention is the result of what we have now. Today's Conveniton may not be different and further tear the party apart. Delegates will come from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory and each of them has his candidates for elective positions. Where the election is not favourable to some particular candidates, this could progress into politics of bitterness that could ruin the party further. The party elders are also not happy with the party. Source: https://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/7-reasons-why-pdp-convention-will-fail-again.219748/
