theenchanter: Shoprite is not only leaving nigeria, its leaving many african countries.... Shoprite said its non-SA operation contributed only 11.6% last year, expect many more closure from other nations cos its obvious shoprite didn't conduct market research before entering into different markets, what works in SA may not work elsewhere.
There are various reasons why shoprite left naija n i'll be frank with u here.... Its the currency fluctuation and pandemic-induced lower purchasing power coupled with the new rave of online shopping, many nigerians now prefer to shop online and have their goods delivered to them..... I doubt if any african country can beat nigeria in online shopping.
Finally, shoprite is not the online retail outlet in nigeria and can never be used to judge the economic outlook, its only u saffers that think shoprite is big here, while in real fact, its not..... It has only 26 stores across d country as there are many other local retail outlets. Like here in Lagos, every area or local govt has its own dedicated mall, how can shoprite with only 26 stores compete in such situation?
P.S...... shoprite is actually selling majority of its stake to Nigerians. i'm glad we're controlling our retail sector. Lol true..... I wonder what's all this fuss about ShopRite leaving Nigeria... Lol like why is it annoying this SAns too much...they've carrying that matter in their head for the past 2-3 days now... If ShopRite wants to leave then old let them do..no one stopping them....that's settles that.. |

Lol Naija is gradually ceasing the whole of Africa....our strategy is to lay hands on your money and in a decade or so you will succumb to you...we control your money,we control you.....Zambia is our new target just like Kenya...
Access Bank Zambia, a subsidiary of Nigeria’s Access Bank Plc, has reached a ‘definitive agreement’ with Cavmont Capital Holdings Zambia Plc (CCHZ) to acquire Cavmont Bank Ltd.
The tier-1 bank announced this latest development regarding the merger talk which has been ongoing for a while, in a statement that was signed by its Company Secretary (Sunday Ekwochi) and issued to the Nigerian Stock Exchange earlier today.
According to the statement by Access Bank, the deal is a highly complementary transaction that is expected to combine Access Bank Zambia’s wholesale and trade finance capabilities with Cavmont Bank’s retail and commercial banking operations.
The proposed transaction which, in the meantime is still subject to relevant shareholder and regulatory approvals, is also expected to better position Access Bank Zambia as one of the top 10 banks in the Southern African country.
Customers from the enlarged bank will benefit from greater security offered by what will be one of the most capitalized banks in Zambia with a more diversified product and service offering and a broader geographical footprint and infrastructure.
Access Bank on its notification stated, ‘’Subsequent to our announcement on July 8, 2020, the Board of Access Bank Plc announces today that its subsidiary, Access Bank (Zambia) Limited, has entered into a definitive agreement with Cavmont Capital Holdings Zambia Plc (CCHZ) regarding proposed acquisition of Cavmont Bank Limited, a subsidiary of CCHZ and subsequent merger of Cavmont Bank’s operations into Access Bank Zambia. The proposed transaction, which remains subject to relevant shareholder and regulatory approvals, will position the enlarged Access Bank Zambia as one of the top 10 banks in Zambia and create the momentum to advance its strategic objectives.’’
‘’Under the terms of the agreement, Access Bank Zambia will acquire the entire issued ordinary share capital, assets and liabilities of Cavmont Bank while Capricom Group Limited, the ultimate majority shareholder of CCHZ will invest at least ZMW300 million ($16.5 million) of preference shares into Access Bank Zambia. Capricorn will hold preference shares in the enlarged Access Bank Zambia for a period of five years, after which the preference shares will be acquired by Access Bank Plc.’’
The statement also notes that the enlarged bank will be well placed to participate in the long-term economic growth of Zambia and will be predicated on the country’s vast reserves of natural resources and fast growing young population.
The transaction is expected to be completed during the fourth quarter of 2020. |

Benin Industrial Park Secures $250m Investment
Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo says an investor, Anchor Tenant, has committed about 250 million dollars to the development of Benin Enterprise and Industrial Park project. Obaseki made this known when a World Bank Team led by Gloria Joseph-Raji, paid him courtesy visit on Tuesday in Benin. He said that his administration had continued to make considerable progress on the Benin Enterprise and Industrial Park project. Obaseki said that the plan was to commence construction at the site before the end of the year. “We have made considerable progress on our industrial park as we touched on an anchor tenant who has committed close to 250 million dollars for their operation. “This has been confirmed. As I speak, we have two others from China and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and we are working closely to get a commitment from them,” he said. Obaseki said his administration was focussed on building conducive business environment to scale up investment and create more job opportunities in the state. The governor said that the state government was concentrating on key elements to improve ease-of-doing-business in the state by improving land reforms, law and order, streamlining the state revenue service and human capital development. He said: “We have received support from the Universal Basic Education Fund to build a digital laboratory at the College of Education in Abudu, and we will work with you to build human capacity. “The law for restructuring the College of Education is before the parliament and will be considered soon. “Procurement for laboratory equipment for the Government Science and Technical College (GSTC) has been completed and will be ready for use by the last quarter of the year. “We have identified three other technical colleges in Isi, Irrua and Igarra for similar projects.”

Shma: You heard me and you understood. But lemme rephrase it with other words. "posting Lagos, Abuja or port Harcourt a million times is not an issue, as long as we viewers enjoy the view and can see real development. No need of posting anambra, Kano, Uyo and other still straggling states for posting sake. Just save them for reputation sake, when they'll start receiving Lagos like development or Abuja like then you can start posting. " I will.post whatever I want....I don't take shots from u... This building in uyo is beautiful and I will post it as I like..
