68816419: Kano Kofar Ruwa Underpass 11 mega bridges, flyovers and underpasses in the spate of 10 years, Kano alone has better infrastructures than the whole of Kenya counties combined
Let me suffice it to say world class... simply world class..
68816419: kano State (Northern Nigeria) Dangi underground and fly overs (90% completed) Kano alone has more flyovers than all counties in Kenya combined, Kenya should show us what northern counties got or at least SHOW us an infrastructure that can rival Dangi flyover
I saw this on the news today....no other way to say this but the flyover looks awesome.....
It is a pity we can't replicate it in a certain African country run by Kenyatta criminals..
rvp20182: SGR will double it's revenue this year after carrying 5m tonnes plus cargo...so keep you Nigeria lethargic public sector in Naija..our SGR will pay for itself
Did i just sense an uncertain but mere imagination "future tense"....rvp be done with the imaginations and hallucinations this year's, let's stick to reality....infact i'de say you embrace it..
obaaderemi: Reasons why Kenya Would Remain Underdeveloped (4)DEBT "He who goes a borrowing goes a sorrowing."....(proverb)
To drive home the point of the proverb above, we might have to consider as an illustration Kenya's failed SGR which was Chinese funded, built and is being managed by the Chinese. This has driven up the cost of doing business and is affecting ordinary Little Indians who already are very poor. The importers are crying but the government's hands are tied by the deal with the Chinese. And what's worse, if Kenya fails in its bid to settle the loan it risks losing its Mombasa port to China. Kenya is already overburdened with debts which are routinely stolen and mismanaged by the ruling Kenyatta clan and their acolytes. Kenya unlike Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa is not blessed with vast deposits of mineral wealth and with such a dwarf economy, paying the loans back is impossible. It has to keep borrowing to pay back old loans. Kenya today is like the ectothermic frog which is unaware that it is being cooked until it dies.
Kenya is forcing herself to compete with the aforementioned nation whilst digging their own grave unknowingly....it boils down to what I previously said....Kenyan should learn to cut their cloth according to their size and stop doing things because they see others doing it even though it clearly shows they are not yet capable enough to do so..
Just30: [s] Basically what you have written is trash
did this fool say his country borrow from China without conditionalities ? They will do exactly what everyone has done to Kenya, seize lands since it is the only thing of value in Kenya. This is what China is doing to you fools
During colonial times, European powers exploited Africa for the vast resources that it possesses. But what China is doing today is actually much worse. Yes, the Chinese greatly desire African resources, but ultimately what they want is Africa itself. But instead of conquering Africa using military force, China is using economics instead. Today, more than 10,000 Chinese-owned firms are operating in Africa, and virtually every major road, bridge, railway and skyscraper is being built by the Chinese. As a result, most African nations are very deeply indebted to China at this point. And as you will see below, when those debts go bad that gives the Chinese a tremendous amount of leverage.
Many people believe that the endgame for China is to make a whole lot more money and to gain control over a whole lot more resources. And China is undoubtedly pursuing those goals, but as Forbes has noted, ultimately what this is about is turning Africa “into another Chinese continent”…
How Are U.S.-China Trade Talks Affecting E-Commerce Giants? The reason Chinese corporations are in Africa is simple; to exploit the people and take their resources. It’s the same thing European colonists did during mercantile times, except worse. The Chinese corporations are trying to turn Africa into another Chinese continent. They are squeezing Africa for everything it is worth.
Right now, approximately two million Chinese citizens already live in Africa, and that number is steadily rising with each passing month.
These days, it is difficult to find a major construction project on the continent that is not being handled by the Chinese, and this has enabled them to put their imprint on some of the largest African cities. For example, just check out what is happening in Nairobi, Kenya…
On the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya, a small sign points to “Beijing Road,” where a new housing development called the Great Wall Apartments looks like the concrete towers you’d find in a Chinese city.
Across Africa, Chinese developers are building highways, light rail systems, apartment buildings, and entire cities.
Most of the “cities” that China is building are known as “special economic zones”. These “special economic zones” are essentially enormous self-sustaining Chinese cities that have been dropped right into some of the most strategic parts of Africa. For example, one of the biggest has been built right next to Lagos, Nigeria…
Next to Lagos, Nigeria, Chinese developers have built a walled-off “special economic zone”–basically a separate city, with separate rules designed to attract investors–based on a model they’ve used inside China for the last 30 years. After Shenzhen became a special economic zone in the 1980s, it went from a small town of 20,000 to, by some counts, 15 million today.
In these “special economic zones”, you will find Chinese factories staffed with Chinese managers that are supervising Chinese workers that are using Chinese equipment to make their products.
And the size of some of these projects is absolutely staggering. Just check out what has been planned for an area along the coast of Tanzania…
Bagamoyo, if the project goes ahead as planned, will be transformed into the largest port in Africa. That is looking ever more likely: after years of delay, the Tanzanian government says it is in the final stages of talks with state-run China Merchants Holdings International.
The lagoon will be dredged, to allow access to the vast cargo ships that will queue many miles out to sea. As for the special economic zone, the original masterplan shows factories in a fenced-off industrial area, and apartment blocks to accommodate the estimated future population of 75,000. There is even talk of an international airport. Many of the villagers have already accepted compensation for the loss of their homes.
Of course Chinese development is definitely not limited to these “special economic zones”. In Ethiopia, the capital city of the entire nation is literally becoming known as “the city that China built”…
Cars chug through the city on smooth Chinese roads, Chinese cranes lift the skyline, sewing machines hum in Chinese factories in Chinese-owned industrial parks, tourists arrive at the Chinese-upgraded airport and commuters ride modern Chinese trains to work.
Simply put, Addis Ababa is becoming the city that China built — but at what diplomatic and economic cost?
Are you starting to get the picture?
As the western world sleeps, the Chinese are literally taking over an entire continent.
And as they increasingly dominate the landscape economically, they are bringing their culture with them as well…
Chinese influence also goes beyond physical infrastructure. Now it’s possible to pick up a copy of China Daily, China’s state-run newspaper, in some African cities, and watch CCTV, China’s state-run news channel. Some cities have Chinese language schools, and some African students are given grants to go study in China.
Apologists for China could point out that all of this development has pulled millions of Africans out of poverty.
And that is true.
But all of this development also carries with it a very hefty price tag…
China is now Africa’s biggest trade partner, with Sino-African trade topping $200 billion per year. According to McKinsey, over 10,000 Chinese-owned firms are currently operating throughout the African continent, and the value of Chinese business there since 2005 amounts to more than $2 trillion, with $300 billion in investment currently on the table. Africa has also eclipsed Asia as the largest market for China’s overseas construction contracts. To keep this momentum building, Beijing recently announced a $1 billion Belt and Road Africa infrastructure development fund and, in 2018, a whopping $60 billion African aid package, so expect Africa to continuing swaying to the east as economic ties with China become more numerous and robust.
Needless to say, the Chinese are not doing all of this out of the goodness of their hearts. African governments are going very deep into debt in order to afford all of this infrastructure, and several of them are now in way over their heads…
There have already been warning signs: the $4 Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway ended up costing Ethiopia nearly a quarter of it’s total 2016 budget, Nigeria had to renegotiate a deal with their Chinese contractor due to their failure to pay, and Kenya’s 80% Chinese-financed railway from Mombasa to Nairobi has already gone four times over budget, costing the country upwards of 6% of it’s GDP.

Your email... This is the sort of predatory lending that western powers once did so well, but now China has taken things to an entirely new level.
And once China has an African government by the throat, they can be absolutely ruthless…
There have been credible reports of talks between the Zambian government and China on handing over the country’s national electricity company, ZESCO to the Chinese due to the inability of Zambia to meet its loan repayment promises. This is expected as China is already in control of the country’s broadcasting company, ZNBC. There are also fears the main airport in Lusaka could be the next target.
Obliviously, Zambia is in trouble. And for other African beneficiaries of Chinese loans, they should prepare for the same possibility in the eventuality that they aren’t able to repay China.
Basically, Zambia is in the process of becoming totally owned by China.
And this is going to happen in country after country until someone stops them.
But who is going to stop them?
After all, the U.S. is about a trillion dollars in debt to the Chinese at this point.
When it comes to foreign policy, China is playing chess while most of the western powers are playing checkers.
They are literally running circles around us, and we are so clueless that we don’t even understand what is happening.
The bolded is rvp's speciality...he lies and think we all have no access to the web ..
Stevoh18: How can a GDP growth rate be slower than population growth but still per capita is expanding, how does it work like that??
You are asking a stupid question my friend...you should be asking yourself prudent questions like
How can you be supposedly growing by 6% and the following is happening..
A decrease in middle class A lesser purchasing power than Ghana a country of 28m A mall bubble burst.. Constant job loss Extremely high unemployment rate. No infastructure to support growth....
The envy that lives in Little Indians no get Part2. That's why they are here fighting everybody. Even yesterday January 1 they were here gidigba. When the rest of us dey where we dey jolly. I was surprised when I logged in today and read their posts from yesterday. Is that how hard and boring life is in Kenya?
You are talking of yesterday when witches like of tayermshri and rvp waited until 12am 2020 to lay curse on Nigeria....
rvp20182: Smart countries like Kenya & Ethiopia leverage from Chinese very competitive loans (nearly the same concessional terms (i.e zero interest rate) like IMF/WB/IDB loans -with long maturity) BUT without conditionalities.
IMF colonies like Ghana under the york of IMF have to literally hand over their "GOLDEN STOOL" to Brettonwood - WashingtonDC who then prescribes very rough chemo and radio therapies on their economies - including cutting down on social spending & camping in Accra - with their pink noses- running the economy.
The worst like Nigeria borrow very EXPENSIVE SHORT TERM domestic loan - and have to spend - believe it or not - 75% of all their revenues paying debts - and then borrow - believe it or not - to pay salaries and pension.
Shut up rvp and cease your lies, remember this is a new year.. Nigeria does not take on short term loans... Everyone knows that Kenya is a deadwood...I personally will want Kenyatta to keep that office for the next 8 year so he can borrow and loot the same loan leaving Kenyan future hopeless with no infastructures on ground to show for it.... Who knows your debt should be approaching $68bn by now....
No other way to say this but you live In a Kenyatta's controlled cesspool..... What a banana republic
Just30: Africa’s biggest borrowers from China in the last 10 yrs.
Angola -$42.8 B
Ethiopia -$13.7 B
Kenya -$9.8 billion
Republic of Congo- $7.4B
Sudan- $6.5B
Zambia $6.4B
Cameroon $5.5B
Nigeria $4.8B
South Africa $3.8B
Ghana $3.5B
But wait oooo, is Angola crazy?....aren't they the size of Ghana's population and they are taking up all this debt....
As for Kenya they need Devine intervention...I believe in the end Angola with settle their way out since they are rich blessed in oil but what of kenya, ?"the soon to be neocolonized colony" who will save them?
obaaderemi: Reasons Why Kenya Would Remain Underdeveloped (3)SMALL SIZE OF ECONOMY The Kenya economy is too small in comparison to its population. At just $60bn the country lacks the financial muscle to embark on big projects that can lift the country up. The sgr is the largest project since independence in 1963. And the sgr has proven to be a pit of expense. Unlike Nigeria where the dangote oil refinery is the largest in Africa and is going to be a gamechanger in West Africa. Kenya needs to grow its small economy to lift the country out of its present quagmire. Ethiopia, its neighbor has already powered past Kenya GDP wise and Kenyans are not taking this well at all--- just like when the Ethiopian runner Gebrehaille Selassie went past the controversial and envious Little Indian runner, Machuka at the 1992 Olympics. Machuka was so mad and envious he hit the Ethiopian as he went past him. I think envy is a Kenyan thing. Ladies(Kenyans) and gentlemen(Nigerians,Tanzanians and Ghanaians), I leave you with the hilarious and embarrassing video of Kenyan shame here as I log out for the year.
Oba you always make laugh with every post you display.....
You described the true nature of Kenyans and it is undoubtedly visible in the likes of rvp, kikuyu and the rest lunatics that have graced here with their constant foolishness, envy, hate....
You are right they always want to be in the league's if big guys, and will do anything to get there even though they are not mature for it..... Once they don't have something they resort to hate and demonizing it.... Free advice to the Kenyans . "cut your cloth according to your size".... When it is your time, it is your time...learn to celebrate other people's progress and watch your own progress locate you....don't go about trying to do things that are bigger than you, like your failed over priced Chinese, cargo-less sgr....
kikuyu1: Hahaha! You black mofos are hilarious! Was with a Lagos based niece a few hours ago. In the middle class areas it's common for single and multi home properties to make do with a well since water is literally a pipe dream. Thing is that part of Naij is firmly within the arsenic belt and they slowly poison themselves unknowingly. Also every so often people fall in and drown! She mentioned visiting 2 Rivers with a couple of Naijjans last year and they nearly wet themselves in astonishment pointing openmouthed groaning at everything like they'd just been abducted by aliens! On recovery the cleverest gasped,"there's nothing like this in Naij."
You will do well in fictional stories(literature), the only thing you have to do is polish your English a bit ..it is very bad...
Really abohboy you are exchanging with the prophet of doom on the first day of this year....just give yourself a break and start tomorrow...rvp is not worth it..
Aliko Dangote Says Apapa-oshodi Road Will Last For 40 Years When Completed On Dec 31, 2019 We lost about N25 Billion due to bad road, Apapa-Oshodi road to be one of the best in Africa when completed – Dangote
LAGOS, Nigeria, December 30, 2019,/ — As part of Dangote Industries Limited’s commitment to the Federal Government of Nigeria, Group President/CE of Dangote, Aliko Dangote took the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola on an inspection tour of the 35-kilometre Apapa-Oshodi-Oworonsoki-Ojota highway currently under construction by Dangote Industries Limited.
The work began in 2018, as part of a bargain between the company and the Federal Government to enjoy a 10-year tax rebate that accrues to N72.9 Billion. The road has been subjected to heavy traffic flow. An initial attempt to work on the road fell apart, it was approved for N15 Billion in 2013, work on the road stopped after the 2015 general elections.
During the inspection, Fashola told members of the press, “The Federal Government is dedicated to the speedy completion of the highway to provide a lasting solution to the problems of bad roads, and gridlocks”
Previous efforts by both Federal and State governments to solve this bottleneck have been unsuccessful. Group President/CE, Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote during the inspection said;
“We expect that by the end of 2020, the entire road network will be finished, you will have a road that will last for 40 years.”
Speaking on Dangote Industries Limited’s struggles, Dangote complained about the congestions at the ports, the gridlock which cost the company about N25 billion in revenue between 2017 and 2019 financial year.
Praising the quality of the road been constructed, Dangote assured that it will revive commerce around the Apapa area. “This road will actually open up the economy. It will bring a lot of jobs and a lot of factories that have moved out will be able to move back.”
The road is on track to be concluded before the end of 2020. This is the first attempt to rehabilitate the busy road since it was first completed in 1978. Fashola also spoke about the economic revival of the Apapa area,
“Businesses have started coming back on Liverpool Road because the road closed earlier is now back. You will see more of that. All of the businesses that are shut on Creek Road will come back. We expect to see property redevelopment and property renewal once the road is completed.”
Fashola also explained that the project will be creating wealth around the surrounding areas as trucks will be needed to convey different materials to the site of the construction, and also labour to help with the process. The project has also seen over 600 people directly employed.
Speaking of how President Buhari plans to bring 100million people out of poverty, Fashola explains that the economy around the construction will provide jobs and opportunities for Nigerians.
“Once the economy of Apapa returns, all the clearing and forwarding, shipping, newspaper companies and all others doing business will resume fully and the economy will bounce back.’’
He lauded the private/public partnership scheme with Dangote and pointed out that section two of the project, which was not part of the original contract was already showing signs of failure, due to heavy traffic.
While inspecting the road around the Oshodi area, Fashola had this to say
“We are at the Oshodi area now and one side has been concluded and opened to traffic and this is how we intend to continue to complete and open until we finish the entire road,”
rvp20182: 2020 prediction... Nigeria will struggle to grow at best 2% and at worst go back into recession as US shale shakes the oil export market. Kenya will grow by 6% recovering from interest rate capping as private lending resume. As for IMF colony going into elections with 13% currency depreciation..IMF will be back as early as last Q of 2020.Tanzania will continue to slide into dictatorship with economic growth less than Kenya
Prophet of doom..let me reserve my comments...
We just got into a new year right here in Nigeria...don't wanna start with negative vibez
obaaderemi: Reasons Why Kenya Would Remain Underdeveloped A few months back, the financial journalist in me embarked on a rather simple but quite in depth analysis of the economy of Little India, a.k.a Kenya. The Little Indian roadside economist(he needs no introduction ) was very supportive by supplying certain data as I went along. Conclusion: Kenya's GDP is $60bn, give or take a few billions. Per capita: around $1000.
Today as we gaze upon the new year 2020, I will be looking at certain factual and salient points because of which Kenya will always remain underdeveloped. The roadside economist and his constant sidekick, the Kikuyu man have this grand dream of catching up with Nigeria and probably South Africa in terms of economic size. Well, not gonna happen-- because of these points below:
[1.]CORRUPTION Kenya is amongst the world's most corrupt countries. One of the things this thread has exposed is that Kenya is unarguably more corrupt than Nigeria according to data from Transparency International.(This has been shared by yours sincerely in the past.) Did you know: Transparency International was founded after massive and abnormal corruption in Kenya was exposed to the world. In other corrupt countries, the politicians and 'leaders' eat and clean their mouths. In Kenya, the politicians eat and vomit all over the shoes of donors. In Nigeria and other countries, at least there are fights against corruption. In Kenya, the same corrupt political family that has been in power since 1963, directly or by proxy, is still in power, the kenyattas.
To be continued.....
Oba you are too much .....it is always nice to have you back
Whilst the constant loss making KQ keeps disgracing the continent the less than a year old "IBOM AIR" is already kicking ass...
Ibom Air Set To Commence International Flights 5:49am
Plans are underway for the Akwa Ibom State owned and operated Airline, IbomAir to begin international flights, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem has said.
This to him is sequel to the high demands by Cameroonians to fly directly into Nigeria rather than flying to Lome(Togo) before connecting a flight to Abuja or Lagos, Igbere TV reports.
Briefing newsmen at the end of the last State Executive Council Meeting for 2019, the SSG said that based on the high demand, the IbomAir will soon begin scheduled flights on Cameroon-Nigeria route.
He revealed that Cameroon to Uyo, Abuja or Lagos was within the approved routes of Ibom Air, adding that the airline will connect Douala with Abuja, Lagos or Uyo in its flight operations.
“As you can see, the International Terminal Building of our airport is coming up very soon; we are going to have our international terminal ready for international flights before year 2020 runs out,” he added.
He said the executive council meeting also reviewed the year 2019 in retrospect, and according to Dr Ekuwem, among the deliberations, was minimizing truancy in the civil service to enhance productivity.
He disclosed that the State Civil Service is to be fully automated using Information And Communication Technology (ICT) for optimal performance and enhancement of productivity of the workforce.
“There will be an increase in the number of road construction, next year, we will have a smart Akwa Ibom State, an intelligent state and this means computerization and ICT based automation of operations within the state civil service.
“Today, we took a decision that human resources (HR) and asset management, productivity of staff, performance, assessment, recruitment, employment, growth, retirement, pension and gratuity within the state civil service will be one click away. You know what that means, we will save time”, he explained.
The SSG noted that Governor Udom Emmanuel has remained undeterred in the socio-economic development of the state which he said was evident in the massive road infrastructure, inauguration of industries, investment in the power sector which would provide electricity to all by 2021, investment in aviation sector especially, the IbomAir, flag-off of the reconstruction of Ibom Blue Sea Science Park, 21 Storey Intelligent Building, and many other projects. http://igberetvnews.com/1217995/breaking-ibom-air-set-commence-international-flights/
