I think we should stop all these, at least we are all Nigerians; Hausa,Igbo,Yoruba and other tribes are important. Its high time we take advantage of our Population Explosion and Our different tribes by Channeling it into something productive. A good Example of this is that of Lagos, Osun and Oyo coming together in the area of Agriculture. Benue State not in Even in the SW also came to Lagos,Saying they want to Learn from Lagos in the aspect of Public Service. We Should learn to tolerate our selves |
ZombieTERROR:Maybe, but it seemsTinunbus own is somehow buoyant. The regulations and laws are too much to use it self. |

They should not try it ,because trying it will furthermore do more than good. Nigeria standing till today despite economic downturn, corruption, ethnic and tribal violence religious difference, unemployment etc is because of its diverse culture. |
Jetjacky:6 states are supposed to be switched over simultaneously: osun, kwara,Enugu,Kaduna,Go be and delta. I think the one they are through with is Kaduna and kwara because the States have been flagged up remaining the switch over. |
Jetjacky: |
Jetjacky:Yes Sure, Even CNBC africa and Kwese free sports from Kenya is on it presently, it airs the EPL . I read a tweet that CNN, CNBC, and I think maybe Fox said they are interested in it, which means there is high probability that the next phase of the switch over might have international stations, at least if not up or more than 20 stations altogether. Kaduna will switch over any day from now and kwara because the infrastructures are already done there. |
Jetjacky:It means no one would be able to watch Analog TV ,this simply means no station in the country will broadcast its signals with transmitters, signals will be broadcasted through the governments national digital platform ( NBC's free TV). When the Launch is done ,you won't be able to watch TV until you have your set up box. Video on demand is a medium whereby video content can be sourced for, simply with your . This means you can watch a new Nollywood anytime like UK's Netflix and Nigeria's Iroko TV News: ‘Free TV’, which is being rolled out in partnership with Nigeria’s National Broadcasting Commission, has the potential to become the biggest free-to-air TV platform in the world, and will eventually be available to over 20 million homes and 150 million individuals. ‘Free TV’ was launched in Jos earlier this year, and today’s launch in Abuja is the second phase of the roll out. Inview is providing the software and technical capability inside the ‘Free TV’ set top boxes which are the cornerstone of the new service. Inview will also operate the EPG and a range of broadcasting applications such as news, public service information, advertising and video on demand. Nigeria will be adopting a model based on the UK’s Freeview which means customers will only pay for a subsidised set-top box that will cost in the region of $7 and a TV licence fee of approximately $5 a year, instead of paying a monthly subscription fee. There will also be a pay TV option for an additional cost. As well as providing consumers with a broader range of high-quality TV, including 30 channels with digital quality picture and sound, the new digital TV service will help to underpin growth and job creation in the manufacturing, advertising and TV production industries. All the set top boxes and associated technology will be built in Nigeria and the new service is expected to drive demand for locally-produced content. The adoption of digital TV will also benefit the Nigerian economy, as it will help to drive diversification from oil to the media and communications industry, while providing the Government with the opportunity to sell off c.$1bn of spare spectrum, as digital channels take up much less spectrum than analogue ones. Among those losing out will be DVD pirates, as ‘Free TV”s channels are encrypted, so money that could have been skimmed off by pirates can go back into Nollywood and Nigeria’s media industry instead (estimated at c.$250m per annum). Nick Markham, Chairman of Inview, said: “Free TV’ will bring a world of great entertainment to millions of Nigerians and, thanks to the agreement with Inview, it will all be delivered at an affordable price. At Inview, we have been developing expertise in the mass adoption of digital TV for over 15 years which means we have an unrivalled level of technical, commercial and operational expertise that makes us the ideal partner for this sort of project and others that we are working on in territories around the world.” You can check their site out: freetv.ng/ Twitter: https://mobile.twitter.com/freetvng |
iluvpomo:You could have written "was poorly" instead of " was so poorly" to avoid tautology, I agree I did not take time to write the article well |
bilulu:I believe there will be more room for more content, even sport as stated by the NBC.They said apart from the 60 channels, it will help young talented Nigerians to come up with more quality content plus a PAY tv platform on it. I Even read a tweet one time that BBC,CNN,CNBC.etc have shown interests in it. The Benefits are countless after the entire states are launched e.g E-government information, voting, internet, Video on demand that will boost Nollywood production, fast and easy access to news and information, advertisements etc I hope Kaduna, kwara, gombe,Enugu,Osun would be launched soonest and not forgetting the fact that it is capital intensive. Residents of abuja and jos can say about it |
I hope it gets to Lagos soon |
Malam Ishaq Kawu, the Director- General, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) on Monday inspected facilities installed in Kaduna State in preparation for Digital Switch Over. Addressing newsmen shortly after inspecting the facilities, Kawu said the commission was impressed with the level of work and the equipment installed by Pinnacle Communications l.td. He said that the commission would come up with modalities on how to distribute Set Top Boxes in Kaduna to ensure smooth transition from analogue to digital switch over in state. Kawu said that NBC had kept some boxes for Kaduna State switch over, in view of the fact that the state was a major urban city. “ NBC came here to inspect what has been installed by the signal distributor appointed for Kaduna digitisation which is the Pinnacle Communications Ltd. “This is a normal pattern in the days leading to Abuja switch over, if you recall we visited the site in Mpape three to four different times. “ The visit will enable us to see exactly the level of work at the beginning, when installation of the equipment started, and eventually commissioning of the transmitters. “We felt it is important for us to come and see to be able to appreciate and evaluate what has been done so far. “I can say that we have seen all that have been installed and it is quite impressive what we have seen here today,’’ Kawu said. The director-general, however, said that what was remaining to complete the process was the inclusion of the local channels into the transmitter, assuring that Kaduna digitisation would be much better. “ To be honest, I won’t tell you this is the exact day that we are going to roll out digital switch over in Kaduna. “ The reason is simple, as you have seen the National and Regional channels are running, but we have to get the local channels to come on board". He said that very soon, NBC would embark on aggressive campaign to reach out to the communities in the state to keep them abreast of the digital switchover in their locality. Kawu urged Kaduna residents not to purchase the boxes yet, adding that the commission would inform them when to buy and activate them. According to him, until the signal is rolled out, set top boxes cannot be activated. The director-general disclosed that after Kaduna, the commission would move to five other states namely Gombe, Delta, Enugu, Kwara and Osun states. He noted that digital switchover was capital intensive, adding that it was a process of kick starting the digital national economy. Earlier, the Chief Engineer, Pinnacles Communications, Mr Tony Webber who conducted the delegation round the facilities, expressed readiness of the company to ensure successful digital switch over in the state.

20 years ago today August 2, 2017, the world lost Afrobeat icon and Nigerian music legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Since his death, very few musicians have been able to step inside his shoes. Fela wasn’t just a musician. Wikipedia describes him as a human rights activist, and political maverick. At the height of his popularity, he was often hailed as one of Africa's most challenging and charismatic music performers. His sons Femi and Seun have done well to carve a niche for themselves. Both are world renowned musicians with Femi even breaking a long standing record for the longest held musical note as he played a single sax note for over 51 minutes. 1. Wizkid No other Nigerian musician currently has the appeal internationally like Wizkid does. Since he signed a record deal with international record label Sony/RCA, his career has reached almost stratospheric levels. Before he even ‘blew’ on the international scene, the Starboy CEO has already worked with Femi Kuti on the track Jaiye Jaiye. His music doesn’t necessarily take on societal issues like Fela’s but due to his current reach and his dress sense (sometimes), Wizzy heads this list. 2. Burna Boy In 2013, Burna Boy drew criticisms for performing at Fela’s Shrine wearing his underwear. But that is not the reason why he is on this list. Burna’s music and talent is what earns him a spot on here. If only he could just get his act together perhaps he could get to abami eda’s level. 3. Orezi Orezi’s inclusion on this list is simply because of his latest song titled Cooking Pot. In the video, Orezi borrows from Fela’s theme while also delivering a strong message against r*pe and the need for consensual s*x. If he continues on this path, who knows he may just … 4. Brymo Of all the musicians on this list, Brymo is the only musician who actually tackles societal issues with most of his songs. For this alone, he deserves a place here. Besides, have you seen Brymo perform on stage? It’s a spiritual something! 5.Dbanj Some would argue that its already too late for Dbanj to reach Fela’s level but that isn’t true. The Kokomaster proved he has still got it when he released his hit single Emergency. Lets not also forget that he is the only one who has traction in other African countries. He remains the only Nigerian musician (in recent times) who has performed at an African cup of nations final. In 2015, he was applauded by World Bank Chief, Jim Yong Kim for using his music power and high celebrity status to bringing attention to serious and critical issues in Africa with special focus on agriculture and poverty alleviation. There is still time for him to become ‘Fela’ in every sense. source: https://entertainment.naij.com/1118196-nigerian-musicians-fela.html |
