Thanks for this. But the school's eportal page is telling me 'the compilation of admission list is yet to start'. I tried checking for one of my people who is very eager to know her admission status. Please I need clarification

The Eportal has been like that even before the list came out.

Try checking on Jamb site. It will surely be there if such person has been offered admission.

What the heck on BB and android? Which one if them is following you to your grave?

Buy what you feel like buying! Don't get swayed!

Each device has its uniqueness. I heard most of these android phones can fry plantain! So what the heck?

Obinoscopy: Alicia Keys, your opening essay was great! The way you elaborated your facts, your examples, your mathematical calculations were splendid. But just like Mazi and some audience countered, you failed to provide convincing solutions in your essay. You however clarified that in your responses to their rebuttals.

Mazi_Omenuko, there's no doubt you are an icon in writing. The ease with which the words come out from your posts is very amazing. However this is a debate and as such we demand that you be very bold and persuasive when making your points known.

Deschyko, your essay was very vague and sometimes incomprehensible. But you were able to make ammends in your replies to rebuttals and questions. Weldone.

Sammytolly4Jesus, your essay was very scanty with less examples and facts. Also your late response to your fellow contestants, audience and judges was almost responsible for your downfall. If you had not come back online to respond to the questions, you might have gotten a lower score.

All in all, you guys tried. Alicia was the first on all Judges list and she had the highest scores in terms of Logic, Strength, Persuasiveness and Knowledge. On that grounds, she is the deserving winner.

To the coordinator and my fellow Judges, I say well done guys. It was nice working with you guys. And to my fellow nairalanders, I say thank you for being part of this show as the audience. Without you guys, this debate would not have been possible.

Thanks and God bless.

Regards,
Obinoscopy

i directed a question to you and Des and i am still awaiting you guys reply.

Whether education will be standard or not is not necessarily the function of the amount students pay. Private Universities Pay exorbitant fees, but that doesn't make them any better that Government schools.

Caracta: Samtolly4JESUS, with free education to tertiary students, how do you intend to encourage independence and hardwork? With free education in all levels of education, how do you hope to sustain the economy and the enterpreneurial spirit of these students when they get out there?

How do you make them understand that "nothing good comes easy" when you spoil them with freebies from primary level of education to teritiary level?

There are various way of entrenching hardwork and discipline in our students without having them face the harshness of fending for themselves.

Academic standards can be raised in our school to discourage laziness and exuberances.

That's why I said schools should be for those that are hardworking and motivated enough to attend......... Not for the rich who might even be clever enough...

Aliciakeys:
This is informal education, you won't tell me that you need to be taught how to switch on a bulb, drive a car or operate appliances from an institution of formal learning. No, you can make use of social amenities without necessarily seeing the four walls of an institution.

Let's go practical.........

Visit the slums in Mushin and compare the scenario with the elitist environment in ikoyi and you'll agree with me that Formal education goes along with in maintaining our social amenities

@Samtolly4Jesus: I want you to explain why Free Education will better suite a corrupt ridden government like ours than Subsidized Education. Thanks.

When it is free, its free. No hidden charges. No terms, No condition.

Making use of subsidiary in Nigeria will still aggravate the fees on the long run. Our So called subsidized federal Univesities are gradually increasing their fees..... If this trend should continue, education will be for a few rich alone.

what better recommendation can be provided than for the provision of lucrative jobs, security, roads and electricity, that will arrest the case of low standard of living and hence, better funding.. Kindly go through the last paragraph of my essay for that.

How do you expect uneducated citizens to properly maintain these juices?

Let's get the priorities right!

Aliciakeys:
Truth be told, what do you expect from an institution where the government is made to bear all the burden? There will surely be loopholes in such a situation because the government can not carter for all the institutions, hence, poor funding and further derailing of researches, infrastructures and projects, producing half-baked individuals as graduates.

Let's stop covering up the Government's delinquency! A Good should be able to provide free quality education to deserving students.

Aliciakeys:
here, you fail to understand the prime factors that hold the keys to a good standard of living. If the government should provide jobs, security, good roads and a conducive environment, won't education be funded by individuals? Why then do you want the government to spend funds just in free tertiary education, leaving the capital-intensive sectors?

When shall we realize the fact that Education is actually the bedrock of any Nation? Shall we face the 'capital intensive sector' and leave the educational sector in reckless jeopardy?

Mazi_Omenuko:

I believe with you that school shouldn't be for everybody. The crowd mentality will arise when education is made free. It is then advised that this scheme must not be implemented.

@bolded, I wonder why you think its impossible for the government to be able to manage subsidized education but you heartily posited in your write up that the same government should be allowed to implement a free education scheme. How possible do you think that is?

If its free, its free. No compromise. Subsidy is a mirage in Nigeria. If the government can comfortably manage plethora of primary and secondary schools, tertiary level shouldn't be an exception.

Mazi_Omenuko: Samitole4jesus:
You mentioned that the value of secondary school certificate is going into oblivion; after you mentioned that it is offered free in the country. Don't you think the same thing will happen to the degrees obtained from tertiary institution if it is made free?

A university degree is a professional degree.
Unless such am individual in under-baked, there will always be a way to carve out a good future.
Education / Re: Nairaland Educational Debate: Winner :::ALICIAKEYS::::: by Samtolly4JESUS(m): 1:47pm On Oct 26, 2013
Sire Mazi, I beg to disagree on your 'crowd mentality' point.

School shouldn't be for everybody, it should be for whoever is smart and motivated enough to attend.

On your loan/grant and subsidiary point; it is totally unrealistic in a country like Nigeria. How many pupil actually benefits from these schemes? Let's face the fact bro.
