PoliticsAgagu's Death Was Not Diabolical But HYPERTENSION by samuelkaykay(op): 2:16pm On Sep 15, 2013
Mr Feyi Agagu, the first son of the late Dr Olusegun Agagu, a former governor of Ondo State, on Saturday said his father was hypertensive.NAN reports that Agagu, who returned from United States on Thursday, reportedly slumped in Ikoyi, Lagos, where he was having a meeting with Ondo indigenes on Friday evening.”He just had a medical examination, which showed that he had a little cholesterol, and was hypertensive.
Late Agagu
“There is diabetics in our family, but it’s nothing major; it was just something he had been dealing with for the past 10 to 15 years. So, there was no inkling that something was about to happen,” Agagu said.According to him, his mum has lost her best friend and her husband. He confirmed that his father passed away in Lagos on his way to St Nicholas Hospital. He added that his father had the usual illness that comes with age, “so there was no stand out cause for his passing”.
“He lived a simple but a fulfilled and happy life. He left amazing memories and fantastic legacies behind.”I will miss the friendship, I will miss the advice; he was pretty much anything any wife, son or daughter could ask for in a father.”He was a mentor to many, a brother, a benefactor; I’m sure a lot of people will miss him,” he said. Agagu said the family had just returned for their annual two and a half weeks family vacation and during that time his father showed no sign of illness.
“I guess when it’s time to go, when your maker comes to get you, when he brought you, he did not ask anybody, so he can take you when he sees fit,” he said.He said that arrangements for the burial were yet to be made. In his response to the development, Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola, a former Governor of Osun State, said he was “grieved”. “We met in politics and he remained a very nice senior colleague and when he came back two days ago, we talked about a meeting tonight,” Oyinlola said on Saturday.
He said that he would miss everything about his late colleague, who was the perfect gentleman, who always cared for the welfare of others. “I asked him if he would be coming to Ibadan and he answered no, he then invited me to meet on Saturday in Lagos, unfortunately that was not to be,” he said. Oba Rilwan Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos, described the late Agagu as an unassuming, brilliant and hardworking governor, who served the nation meritoriously. CrimeBehold The Devilish Boy That Raped His Mum ! by samuelkaykay(op): 7:10am On Sep 14, 2013
Twenty days after 27-year-old Akintunde Omotehinde reportedly assaulted his 60-year-old mother sexually at Ajebamidele area of Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, residents of the area are still in shock over the incident.
Although the Omotehinde family kept mute over the issue, some people in the neighbourhood said they heard about the incident.
Speaking to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, some residents, said rape was not a common occurrence in the locality.
The residents spoke with our correspondent in separate interviews on Thursday.
One of the residents said, “The news was shocking. Not many of us believed the story at first but the truth cannot be hidden for too long. The woman, a petty trader, was said to have been raped by her son. She was badly injured and was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
“I can tell you that the family is presently living in shame. We hear that the family members are planning to move out of the house but we cannot confirm that.”
It will be recalled that the matter was heard by a Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday.
The accused has been remanded in prison custody pending the determination of the case by the court.
The Prosecutor told the court that the accused person raped his mother on the August 23, 2013 at their residence at Ajebamidele Area of Ado-Ekiti.
When our correspondent visited, the victim was said to be unavailable.
A petty trader in the area, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, described the news as incredible, saying, “I don’t even know the name of the boy and I don’t know what he does for a living but I always see him on the street. I know him as an easy-going young man.”
An artisan, who pleaded anonymity, said that the accused person used to smoke and drink. He said, “I am sure that what he did was not as a result of drunkenness. It must have been premeditated.”
A clergy in the area said, “What happened between the boy and his mother is evil. They allowed themselves to be used as instruments in the hands of Satan. How can one explain a situation where a son has canal knowledge of his own mother? It is evil. The boy has attracted a curse upon himself and his generation.”
The Prosecution told the court that the offence contravened Section 358 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Patricia Ajibade, has ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody, pending the legal advice by the Director of Public Prosecution.
The Magistrate adjourned the case till October 16, 2013

PoliticsKidnapped Victim Rescued In King's Palace In Delta State ! by samuelkaykay(op): 7:00am On Sep 14, 2013
A National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, member, Bernard Oyeogun, kidnapped, Wednesday, by a rival faction in Agbor, Delta State, has been rescued by the police from the palace of a royal father, (names withheld), where he was unlawfully held for one night.

Saturday Vanguard was informed, yesterday, that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in the area, who acted on a tip-off, stormed the palace with policemen on Thursday and unchained the victim.

He was battered by his captors and there was fear, yesterday, that he might go blind.

There has been a simmering dispute between two factions of the union in the area and a source confided to Saturday Vanguard that the national executive of the union dissolved the chapter, yesterday afternoon, after it was briefed on the development.

The royal father was said to be away from his palace when the incident occurred, but he, allegedly, has sympathy for one of the rival factions. However, two persons, aged 31 and 41 years respectively have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Delta State, Lucky Uyabame, confirmed the incident and arrest of two persons to Saturday Vanguard.

PoliticsLandlord Dupes 100 Prospective Tenants by samuelkaykay(op): 1:28pm On Sep 13, 2013
An Ebutte Metta Magis-trate Court in Lagos, Thursday, adjourned the case against a landlord, Alhaji Ishola Salawudeen, of 59, Oriola Street, Alapere, Ketu, Lagos State, who collected rent from over 100 unsuspecting tenants with the promise of giving them a flat in a new building he was erecting on his property.
It turned out that none of the persons, who paid for the said building, which was under construction, was given a flat and in some cases, more than four persons were given the keys to the same flat.
One of the victims, Mrs Ganiyat Bashoru, who was at the court lamented that she had just done her introduction after paying N475,000 for a two-bedroom flat to Salawudeen, hoping to move into the new apartment with her husband.
Mrs Bashorun, who was in court for the hearing of the case, which could not come up as the magistrate was said to be on leave, said she had paid Salawudeen the said sum for 18 months.
She said Salawudeen had promised her and other prospective tenants to come for keys to the flat on July 16, and on getting there, she met others, who were also there to collect keys to their flat.
Bashorun said that the developer duped over 100 prospective tenants to the tune of N34.3 million.
According to her, “since the incident, it has not been easy for us because we have been squatting with family and friends and people have been running around for us.”
Meanwhile, the case was adjourned till November 6.

Christianity EtcCatholic Priests May Be Allowed To Marry Amid Papal Changes by samuelkaykay(op): 10:24am On Sep 13, 2013
https://resources1.news.com.au/images/2013/09/12/1226717/346825-130912-pietro-parolin.jpg
The Vatican has opened its door to the possibility of married priests, a move that would go against centuries-old Church tradition.

Archbishop Pietro Parolin, who will be No.2 in the Roman Catholic Church when be becomes secretary of state next month, declared that the priestly vow of celibacy derived from an age-old rule, but was not Catholic dogma.

"It's not a dogma of the Church and it can be discussed because it's an ecclesiastical tradition," Archbishop Parolin told El Universal newspaper in Venezuela, where he is completing his term as Papal Nuncio.

"It is a great challenge for the Pope because he has a mission to unite and all these decisions must be taken in a way that unites the Church, rather than dividing it," he said. "At that point, you can talk and reflect and go deeper into these issues that are not defined by faith and think about some changes, but always in the service of unity and as the will of God. It's not what I want [that matters] but to be faithful to what God wants for his Church."

Archbishop Parolin's comments come at a time of upheaval in the Church, which has been beset by scandals over sex abuse by priests, following the resignation of Benedict XVI and the election of the Argentine Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio as Pope Francis.

Francis has made waves by calling for a "poor Church for the poor". He has said he wants to boost the role of women in the Church, although he has noted that Pope John Paul II ruled out the ordination of women.

He has also taken a more tolerant stance on homosexuality, declaring: "Who am I to judge?"

Yesterday, he reached out to nonbelievers in an unprecedented letter to Italy's leading left-wing paper La Repubblica to answer a columnist who declared that he did not believe in God. The leader of the world's 1.2 billion Catholics told Eugenio Scalfari, the newspaper's co-founder and former editor, that non-believers did not commit a sin as long as they followed their consciences.

"The question for people who do not believe in God is to listen to their consciences. Also for those without faith, sin is going against your conscience. Listening to it and obeying it means making up one's mind about what is good and evil."

The Catholic insistence on the celibacy of priests dates back to the first centuries of the Church. The first Church law mandating celibacy was Canon 33, enacted at the Synod of Elvira, now the Spanish city of Granada, around 305-306 AD. The discipline was definitively reaffirmed at the Council of Trent in the mid-16th century.

The Orthodox Church and some Eastern Catholic churches, however, allow married priests.

Francis, in an interview in 2012 before becoming Pope, said: "For the moment, I am in favour of maintaining celibacy, with all its pros and cons ... It is a matter of discipline, not of faith. It can change. Personally, it never crossed my mind to marry."

PRESS RELEASE: I Have Never Worked Under Farida Waziri -Ribadu
Posted: September 12, 2013 - 19:49
Former EFCC Chairman, Nuhu Ribadu
By Nuhu Ribadu
My attention has been drawn to the press statement issued by the immediate past chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mrs Farida Waziri, in a reaction to statements credited to former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
While I had tried not to comment on the activities of the EFCC or my successors in office to avoid subjectivism, I however find it expedient to clear my name of careless and mischievous references made by Mrs Waziri. I am therefore writing this with utmost reluctance, public debate having been polluted with deliberate tincture of amnesia, necessitating umpteenth repetition of a simple fact that should have sank once and for all. It is sad that merchants of falsehood keep recycling crooked statements to the point of cliche, in spite of attempts at clarifications.
Firstly, it is not correct that I worked under Mrs Waziri, as she always claim. This is a naked lie that she keeps flaunting to seek undue relevance and validate her own appointment. At no time in my career did I work under the same section or unit as her. In fact, contrary to the Waziri's claim that She "trained" me, it was I that actually lectured her and others, on fraud investigation and prosecution, when she was newly posted as Head of Special Fraud Unit, even though she was my senior in rank. I was then the Head of Prosecution at the Tribunals under the leadership of Mr Sunday Ehindero, then CP Legal.
On the issue that EFCC under my leadership was used to push through the aborted third term agenda, it is evident that Mrs Waziri, who was nowhere near EFCC at the time, is ignorant of what transpired. It is saddening that after all the damage inflicted on the operations and credibility of the EFCC by Mrs Waziri, she turns back to abuse the young men and women who had put in all their energy in cleaning up our country especially during that critical time, by dismissing their work and sacrifice.
As I had cause to state in a recent article on my stewardship of the EFCC, we almost deliberately avoided going after governors and public servants from the opposition to avoid the charges of bias or doing the bidding of the government. Moreover, we halted our works on the politically exposed persons throughout the period of the third term debacle, to insulate and protect the integrity of the Commission.
EFCC was not about Nuhu Ribadu. Rubbishing its work, therefore, is like insulting all the thousands of its operatives across the country who put their lives in the line to make Nigeria a better country. If Mrs Waziri has a personal score to settle with anybody, she should direct her attack at the person but not the organization.
