Anuitunu:
You definitely need a tourist visa, even tho you have plans to go give birth there and you dont have to put in the application that you are going to give birth. Since you are applying for a tourist visa, it is ideal to put a shorter tourist time of about 3weeks/4weeks and you will have to put money into your account to show that you can take care of yourself for those weeks. When you state that you wanna stay for a very long time on a tourist visa then they can suspect somethings.

Goodluck!!

Same with my EDD…
Please house, what kind of visa would I pick, is it tourism?
And how long do you think I should input in the place they stated how long do you intend staying
Please help am filling it already

Hello mryoung16. In addition to what Adjo10 mentioned above, if you dont want to wait the whole time that your PR card would be ready, you can apply for the PR and immediately a "Protocolo" will be given to you, the protocolo is like a temporary residency permit, after which you can decide to go back to Nigeria. A friend can collect the PR card on your behalf when its ready and then post to you in Nigeria but you must legally authorize that friend to collect on your behalf before you travel back to Nigeria. Also note that immediately you get to Nigeria, you have to post that Protocolo back to your friend in Brazil because they will request for it by the time the person wants to collect the PR card on your behalf.
You might wanna ask that cant you drop the protocolo with the friend instead of taking it back to Nigeria and then posting back to Brazil. The answer is "NO" because you have to exit the country with that "protocolo". Goodluck Man!
Adjo10:
Hi mryoung16. I have seen your question since the first day you posted it. I was hoping someone will answer. Your question seem very simple but actually complex. Before i tell you what i know, i would like to point out that i am not a guru. I am just a simple person who was blessed enough to give birth in Brazil. Let me guid you to find the answer for your self.

Assignment: Simply go to the Brazilian consulate website and see the type of visas or permit they issue. If they issue Permanent residency then it is a yes to your question.

My little knowledge: Unfortunately, Brazilian consulates do not issue permanent residency. Only the Polícia Federal in Brazil can receive, process and issue permanent residency and you need to apply in person in Brazil.

So a simple answer to your question: No, you cannot apply for permanent residency at the Brazilian consulate.

Alternative: that does not mean that if you leave Brazil without applying for it, you are disqualified. I can guide you on what to do here on this platform but let keep that for another post. This is becoming too long already. Cheers

Hey Techspot, just like Adjo10 have mentioned, you can still go ahead without the Carteira de identidade and make use of the Certidao de Nascimento (Birth certificate) . However, it sometimes depends on the discretion of the officer that is attending to you at Policia Federal, some officers may ask for it and you might be lucky to meet the ones that would not ask for it. In my case, I collected the Carteira de identidade for my son before proceeding to apply for the passport and when i got to the point of application, the officer attending to me asked for it and I have also seen some persons too that did not collect the IDcard before proceeding to apply for their child's passport and they were granted with just the birth certificate. So that is why I said it sometimes depends on the officer that attends to you, they just use their discretion.
But you can try and proceed and apply for the passport with the birth certificate that you have, hopefully it should be granted.

Moreover, I will still suggest that even after you have gotten the passport, you can still apply for the IDcard, cos with just the IDcard, Brazilians can enter the Mercosur countries without having to present their passports at the point of entry. So that saves you the stress of carrying your Brazilian passport around.

Big congratulations on the birth of your baby, its a win-win for you and your family. Cheers bro
TechSpot:
Oh! I meant the Carteira de identidade (Identity card) "RG" (from Registro Geral, General Registry). I already have the Certidao de Nascimento (Birth certificate)

afelouz:
Hello everyone,

About three weeks ago, we welcomed our son and I immediately kick start the PR process.

I had to wait and do all this stuff so I can write a comprehensive post and I hope someone will find it helpful..

We had our baby in Sao Paulo, I don’t know if the process is different in another state.

Immediately after the birth of the baby, we were given a document that I took to the Cartorio to register my baby and get the original birth certificate of the new born.

A few days later, I proceeded with the baby’s RG registration at Paupa Tempo, (RG is the citizenship card of the Brazilian child and you need to make an appointment before going to Paupa Tempo), baby’s picture was captured and we were given a date to come and pick up the RG card.

With those two documents, I can now process the PR for my family and also apply for the baby’s International passport.

Below is a list of documents needed to process the PR.

Online application form confirmation page
Photocopy of all passport pages
Child birth certificate
Child RG
Birth cert translation ( embassy)
Police report translation ( embassy)
Original Police report cert in English
applicant CPF
Payment of 168.13 reais, 204.77 reais each or the PR application
A lot of declaracao (declaration) such as:-
Declaraco de endereco electrónico e demais meios de contato
Certidao estadual de criminais
Certidao de distribuição
Declaracao de residencia
Declaracao de manutenção
Prove or address in Brazil ( bill)
2 passport photo

As for the baby’s international passport, documents needed are:-

The Brazilian child birth certificate.
The Brazilian child RG
Parents international passport,
5x7 passport photograph of the Brazilian child
Online application form
Some declaração (declaration)
Payment of 257.25 reais
(Both parents must be present)

After getting all the documents in order, we went to police federal and submitted the PR application. We now have our protocols while waiting for the actual CRNM card...
We applied for the baby’s passport also and still waiting to pick it up.

Now, the process is not so easy as stated here, in fact, I got frustrated and misplaced my phone in the process. Despite reading the requirements here on this thread and having someone who has gone through the PR process here in Sao Paulo who helped me with the list of documents needed, yet, they didn’t collect our application. We went to Policia federal about 4 times before getting the complete documents. If you meet Mr ‘A’ today and he says you only need one documents and everything is good and you go with the requested documents and meet another person, that person will ask for another thing.

The language is a big barrier so Its better to get a sworn translator or anyone who can speak Portuguese to make things easy… they won’t read whatever you translated with your phone at Policia federal and most of all these places

NOTE - The PR application now takes less than two months In Sao Paulo, in fact, my friends who applied around ending of January got the CRMN card first week in March, that’s about a month.

As for the Nigerian visa for the baby, I'm still waiting for the baby’s passport and making enquiries. As soon as I am done with that, I will revert.

We didn’t get to extend our visas as the timing was right and we applied before our 3 months entry stamp expires.

I'm still gathering information on the provisional citizenship. hopefully, I can apply for my daughter before leaving Brazil If I get her CRNM card on time.

Also, If I remember any additional information regarding the PR process, I will come back and share….

Thank you all and good luck to those waiting to get their visas.

You can go for Peru, Panama, Chile or Argentina....actually Argentina gives almost the same benefits as Brazil, the parents are also able to secure a PR after their child is born. Infact, almost all the countries in North and South America gives your child citizenship by birth, so just try and check out for the ones you like and get yourself familiar with the procedures in any country you are interested in. Cheers
gingerspice:
Dear Beautyaddy,

I need your help confirming the above i.e. if you or any one you know have personally experienced this. I am in a limbo regarding where to birth as it seems late for Brazil processing and was considering st kitts until now.

The hassle involved and the chance of not getting into the country or getting citizenship despite the claims/facts online is scaring me.

Thank you.

I will advice that you should come with a return ticket and shouldn't let your flight ticket be too long, remember you specified that you are going on a tourist visit so they aint expecting you to come spend months there as a tourist. Normally you are expected to return to your country, therefore you should have a return ticket. Dont let them starting suspecting any other motives of yours, so pls just do everything accordingly to be on a safe side, cos you never know the kind of officer you will meet at the point of entry. The way you will be treated at the POE solely depends on the individual officer you meet, so play safe pls. Just do everything and prepare yourself for entry as one would do if you were going to give birth in the US. I remembered when I was coming into brazil then, I even deleted everything that is related to child birthing on my phone cos I had the mind that what if the officer I meet is as crazy as those officers at the point of entry in the US grin cheesy. After you arrive in Brazil you can decide to change your return dates. Goodluck
Namae:
Thank you brother, thank you TechSpot too.
May God give us all great favour.
I took your advice and we are all applying as a family. Sad thing is that our airline reservation expires in a few days but info on this thread says it doesn't matter.

I need to know from you and others are already there as no one has talked about it here.

Do the entry officers have any reservations about coming in with an open flight ticket or one with a longer duration than the number of days stated in your visa application.

Or should we just come in with a return ticket reflecting our supposed days of holiday which is 9 days.

Thank you once again.

TravelRe: Giving Birth In Brazil by Samuelsoma: 9:35am On Jan 13, 2020
Namae,
For 1st question, if you intend to apply for PR or citizenship for your other kids, then you have to take them along, it is compulsory to have them there physically if you intend to get any document for them. So please apply for visa for them.

2nd question, I think you should be able to get someone to submit in person for you. If you have friends or relatives in Lagos you can send down to them and let them submit the documents in person for you at the embassy and pls get your application done ASAP.

3rd question, Well I feel relocating all depends on you, since both of you have good jobs in Nigeria then you both have to plan it and see what works out best for you. For some couples, the wife and kids might decide to relocate first and while the wife is in Brazil trying to surf for jobs and all, the husband who has a very good job in naija will be supporting them in brazil and little by little things get sorted out and some others may decide to move once and for all,so it all depends on you guys, what you want and how what you want it, but just get your PR first and get your kids their citizenship/PR too, thats the main thing. Goodluck

4th question, the parent consent form isnt on the lagos embassy website, so maybe you can send a mail to the embassy to ask them about it and pls if there is anyone here that knows how to go about that should kindly advice her on it.

Cheers
Namae:
Good job Adjo10, Brexiteer, afelouz, techspot, shallypop and others
Quick question.
I and my spouse plan to visit while our 2 other kids who are under 3-years stay back in Nigeria.
So that our new baby gets the citizenship and myself and hubby the PR.
But we will return to Naija after this due to our works

My questions are these,.

1). Are our children in Nigeria eligible for the citizenship or must they be physically present in Brazil at the time?

Please advice so I know if to apply for them too.
Starting my application right away.
Do you advice I go with all of them considering that I will be alone after a while as hubby needs to go back to work.

Or I just focus on the new one.
It must end in praise.

2). I am only 8weeks gone and very "invisible". Can we mail in our application and wait to be invited since we don't live in Lagos Or should we travel down to Lagos just to submit and possibly still get invited again?
We live in Cross river which is such a distance for a double trip.

I'm asking so as to know how to start planing permission to be off work.

3). Better still, will you advice myself and hubby to totally relocate...it's been our life long dream just for the kids to have a better life, we have quite good jobs here in Naija.
Will it be a worthy risk ditching our sought-after jobs to chart this new course?

Finally,

4). How do I get the parent consent form for the minor who will be applying as it is not on the site.
Do the minors need to pay visa application fees?

Thank you

Adjo10 is actually a woman bro not a man, lol. Your statement of account alone is sufficient for both of you, since you are her sponsor then your statement of account is okay. When applying you can provide your birth certificate too as part of the documents to submit. Good luck bro

Actually, it is always more expensive for tourist, so i can suggest that you should probably make do with online learning for now...Youtube and some other free websites that you can get, till when you obtain your PR then you can enroll in an institution for your language classes. However, you might just be lucky to find a local around you that is willing to take you one-to-one classes for a little token, just to know the basics. You can try and ask people around and also your host, they might be able to direct you to someone if they know any. Don't worry Brazilians are very friendly and nice and always ready to help, am sure you are experiencing that already. Dont be embarrassed when you see them showering so much love on your wife with the big belle grin smiley cheesy, touching her tummy and kissing the tummy and some even give gifts to the couple just at the spot of sighting a pregnant woman. Enjoy yourself jare bro. Cheers man
afelouz:
Thanks alot.
One more thing, I have been searching for a language School Where I can learn Portuguese here in Sao Paulo and the ones I have been seeing online are too expensive, they also charge weekly, Lol.
Is there a free or affordable school I can attend??
Remember I don’t have protocol or a PR yet, I’m just a tourist for now.
TravelRe: Giving Birth In Brazil by Samuelsoma: 9:12am On Jan 12, 2020
Your wife having her father's name isn't an issue at all, so dont be bothered about that bro. You have your marriage cert and that is enough, if they ever ask for it. There are always scenerios of bf/gf going to give birth and they still obtain their PR, so dont bother yourself about name change for her until after you have gotten your citizenship, that will make things easier for you. Goodluck bro
afelouz:
Good day and thanks for your well wishes. I think by far this is the best decision I have ever made.

I have some concerns regarding the PR application based on the brazilian baby.

Presently, my wife Int’ Passport has her fathers name as her surname and her birth certificate. We are yet to change the Int’ passport to my surname. I know there wont be an issue having my surname on the new born birth certificate as im physically present in Brazil but is it advisable to change my wife’s name to my surname for the PR application? if yes how best can we go about it.

I came with our marriage cert that is legalized at the ministry or foreign affairs. Thanks alot

Actually, if your pregnancy is obvious, there is a slim chance of you getting the visa cos they already know your intentions
Trizadove:
does that mean there is no hope for people who are showing already even though the person has some available time to accommodate the processing time of 3months?
TravelRe: Giving Birth In Brazil by Samuelsoma: 12:11pm On Nov 24, 2019
Sorry about the refusal at the Canadian embassy, at the moment the visa processing time takes about 7/8 weeks, so am afraid you might not be able to meet up with time again. However, if you still want to just do it to secure a second passport for your child and probably not considering the PR you will get in brazil for you as parents, you can try countries like Chile, Argentina,Peru, Panama or some other south america countries. Actually, most south and north america countries offer citizenship by birth to children of foreign parents, just that Brazil has more advantages than others, so if you are still willing, I will advice you to try other countries asap and secure the second passport for your child and then for the next baby, you plan for Brazil so your whole family can eat and benefit from the good fruit of the Brazil land smiley wink Cheers
Neneokoye:
Helo Everyone. I got a refusal mail yesterday for birthing in Canada and I’m 28weeks today. Going forward I’m looking at applying to Brazil for same purpose.

Pls just some few questions.

What are my chances of getting the visa after a refusal from Canada?

What’s there processing time like?, inorder for me to be able to fly on time.

I have no travel experience which was the result of my refusal, does that count here?

Quick response will be appreciated as I’m emotionally down now but I still don’t wanna give up on this dream.

Bless up to all them gurus here.

Yes all documents have to be uploaded online cos that is what will be sent to Brazil for application review, even tho they ask you to come to the embassy with your hardcopies but the uploaded documents are what the ministry in Brazil gets to review and decide either to approve or reject. Try and reduce the sizes of your documents and picture and then i guess you should be fine

Wawu!!!! 200pages for just 6months statement of account or is it more than 6months? thats pretty massive but then i think you guys will take the pain of scanning them since SOA is one of the requirements. Hopefully the file size is not more than what you can upload, probably after scanning you can try and compress the file size if it appears too large.
ptaller:
Congratulations bro! Wish you all the best. Pls, we want to submit a group application from our office fully sponsored by the company, but aside other supporting documents, the statement of account is about 200 pages, are we going to scan all the pages of the SOA with other documents, then submit everything at the embassy? TravelRe: Giving Birth In Brazil by Samuelsoma: 12:38pm On Oct 31, 2019
Any airport is fine but as I have once mentioned sometime ago on this platform, I will always recommend GIG (Rio) and the reason is cos the airport is less busier than Sao Paulo so immigration officers wont really pay attention to you as they are even fewer there than Sao paulo since its not as busy as Sao Paulo, and then it also depends on the officer you meet. Ofcos its not that you will be sent back at the point of entry like they do in the US but then its better to play safe and avoid unnecessary attention and questioning, cos the truth is that I have seen some persons that were questioned at the point of entry by immigration and they flew in via Sao paulo and the only reason they were stopped and questioned was cos their tummy was already very big so it couldnt be hidden anymore. So bro pls my candid advice and suggestion is to fly in tru GIG airport, but the choice is all yours tho.
Also, as pertaining local flights, Rio to Floripa and Sao Paulo to Floripa are about same distance, both flights takes about 1hour 30mins, so you have nothing to fear and local airlines will fly a pregnant woman as long as she is still fit to fly, you dont even wanna try bus ooo cos mehn its pretty far. Cheers
afelouz:
Please, Which airport is the safest airport to arrive while pregnant? I have seen a previous suggestion of Rio, but Rio to Floripa is far and I don't know if the local airlines would fly a pregnant woman and the baggage allowance might not be an issue too. thanks

So sorry about that, application now takes pretty much time to be approved or rejected, that has been the trend in recent times. So i understand how frustrating it can be. Please I will advice anyone on this platform that is planning to go give birth in brazil to start the processing as soon as you have made your final decision to go give birth there, cos you need much time to prepare and plan for it. Just assume that your visa application processing might take two months give or take, hence the need to start preparing early enough.
Also sorry about the way those two Nigerian guys treated you, bad belle people everywhere, its really annoying and irritating to have such people attend to you.
marina101:
I went to the brazil consulate today to get my passport back, Since sept 9th, no decision yet. I had to go get our passport back. I was not even going to use the visa again even If I was given as my wife is already 37 weeks.

The two Nigerian guys attending to people there are some of the worst people on earth. They treat people with so much disdain.
TravelRe: Giving Birth In Brazil by Samuelsoma: 6:39am On Oct 28, 2019
your passport remains at the consulate in lagos, it is the online application that goes to brazil for processing and approval and after your application is approved in brazil, they put the visa in form of a sticker on your passport. you know while applying online you are asked to upload all documents on the portal, so that is what they work with in brazil to approve or reject your application
juliusocean:
Wait was your passport still at the consulate here in lagos I thought it would be sent to brazil along with the other documents
TravelRe: Giving Birth In Brazil by Samuelsoma: 1:37pm On Oct 24, 2019
If you are in urgent need of your passport, I will suggest you probably go to the embassy in person since they have not been replying your messages cos that is the only option left, so maybe if you go in person and tell them, they will get it back to you and be rest assured that your application most likely will be cancelled and i doubt if there will be any refund of your visa fees. Actually applications for Nigerians now takes more time than the speculated 21days. From what i know and the information i got, in recent times it takes them about 6 weeks to approve or reject. the main reason for that is cos the applications for Nigerians everywhere regardless of your location are not reviewed at the embassy of brazil in that country, they send to brazil, that is where they process all applications for Nigerians. So it actually now takes more time.
marina101:
I have contacted them, they only replied by sending me a link to track application.

I have sent them an email to request my passport back, yet to get a response. They barely respond to emails and that's their only means of communication.

Thank you anyway.

The Brazilian PR gives access to visit many of the Mercosul countries and Chile is one of them. Also, for your child to be a citizen of Chile, one of the parents must be a resident of Chile and Chile has flexible plans for you to obtain residency within a short period. Argentina also offers citizenship by birth to a child of foreign parents and the parents can as well obtain PR after the birth of their baby in Argentina.
Icesnow:
Can you visit Chile Visa free with Brazil PR? Also, I think there's a clause in dat Chile citizenship by birth. You have to be a resident if you are a foreigner for your child to qualify for the citizenship by birth. Can you throw more light on this ma?

as for the pregnancy test, I am aware that the brazilian embassies in some countries are already requesting for preggy test and i remember someone mentioned it here too that the consulate in nigeria asked the wife for it and hence they were denied visa, however, you should make inquiries well or.
