JonDon12:
This is not just a Tinubu alliance. It is a Yoruba alliance. And Tinubu wont regret it. He will be the only one to benefit from it. After Ladoke Akintola sold out Awolowo and the Western Region in 1964, It took the Yorubas till 1999 to get any kind of respect in Nigeria and Obasanjo was a Northern appointment. Not a Yoruba one, The Yoruba supported Falae., So you can say it took them 50 years to get back any kind of political representation in Nigeria. Unlike the Ibos that got Ekwueme in 1979

Yes, Tinubu might be president. But with ALLYING with Buhari, Yoruba have lost the respect of every tribe in Nigeria, including the Hausa, because they have no shame.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo has advocated for the urgent change of the name of the country Nigeria to a better and positive name.

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization posited that the change became necessary “as the name, Nigeria, connotes lack of progress, corruption and darkness.”

The deputy spokesman of the organization, Comrade Chuks Ibegbu in a statement noted that the name, “Nigeria was given to us by a lover of Lord Lugard who later became his wife and was given at the heat of passion.”

“Many countries in Africa , Asia and even Europe changed their colonial names after independence but we foolishly stuck to the name with all its attendant minuses,” the group stressed.

It also challenged Nigerians to have an immediate Conference where different indigenous names could be agreed upon as the new name of the country, insisting that “unless we change our name , our numerous problems may have no solution because there is something in a name.”

“Though the name Igbo was not given to us by anybody if any day we find out any question mark on it we shall change it . We are not Ibo but Igbo and Ndigbo. All colonial vestiges should be expunged by the indigenous African people,” it concludes.

The Chairman of Air Peace, Chief Allen Onyema, has refuted insinuations that he intervened in the herders-farmers’ crisis in Benue State because of his alleged political ambition.

The philanthropist, who recently airlifted many stranded Nigerians from South Africa, noted that the action was driven by his love for peaceful coexistence in the country.

He also denied reports that the National Secretary of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Alhaji Alhassan Saleh, apologised for the killings in Benue during a peace meeting he organised.

Allen spoke on Sunday during a telephone interview with one of our correspondents.

The Air peace boss had on Saturday facilitated a meeting between the Miyetti Allah and the Benue State Government.

At the meeting, which was attended by top dignitaries of the state government, including Governor Samuel Ortom, Onyema had asked the two warring parties to embrace peace.

Saleh had apologised for all that happened, while Ortom had said he was only interested in defending the people of the state.

Onyema told The PUNCH that although the meeting was successful, he was surprised at reports that the Miyetti Allah’s secretary apologised for the killings in the state.

He said, “Saleh Alhassan, who is the leader of the Miyetti Allah, never admitted to the killings. He never said they were the ones that killed anybody. What he said was that, ‘we are here to make peace with the state.’

“On Saturday, I had called him because I knew his group had been having a running battle with the state government. I felt there should be peace in the country.

“The stadium was full and I started by preaching peace to the people of Benue. I told them that somebody was in their midst who they might not want to see before now. I said their governor was peaceful and the man was peaceful. I said he was Salleh Alhassan of Miyetti Allah and there was silence

The theme of the 2019 Platform which held on October 1 in Lagos, was ‘Redesigning the Nigerian economy with new ideas’.

Sanwo-Olu was quite the force on the campaign trail

Sanwo-Olu of the APC swept to power in March, 2019 on a populist wave, handing closest challenger Jimi Agbaje of the opposition PDP a bloody nose in all the 20 local governments in Lagos.

His election campaign was also a ubiquitous, viral affair; with his name and images enjoying instant recognition status on every lip and in every street corner.

However, voters have been complaining about Sanwo-Olu’s slow pace of governance since he succeeded Akinwunmi Ambode in May of 2019, amidst worsening road surfaces, perennial traffic on roads, dark streets and flash floods across Lagos.

Potholes and rainfall

Sanwo-Olu said he can explain why he's been off to a slow start.

“Vehicular traffic in Lagos is about 240 cars or thereabout per kilometer. The national average is about 11 cars per kilometer. We are fully aware that there is a problem now in the short term and we are solving it.

"Once we finish the rainy season, extensive road rehabilitation will start to fix the roads as it were. Not that we will fix all the 6,000 roads in Lagos in one day, because everybody takes a snapchat or picture and sends to me. We are going to get there over time, but it won’t be everything at once”, Sanwo-Olu promised.

The governor also compared the traffic woes in Lagos to what obtains in New York.
