capital Abuja. MAYOWA SAMUEL • APRIL 26, 2021 Boko Haram insurgents Boko Haram insurgents Boko Haram insurgents have taken over Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger, Governor Sani Bello announced on Monday, a development that threatens Nigeria’s power infrastructure and the capital Abuja. Shiroro hosts one of Nigeria’s largest power stations and the overrun LGA is barely 200 kilometres from Nigeria’s capital Abuja. Mr Bello said more than 3,000 people have been displaced across the state, including those fleeing Shiroro and Munya LGAs. “We have over 3,000 people here from communities that have been displaced by bandits and Boko Haram elements around Munya and Shiroro Local Government Areas,” he said. “However, some of them have started going to their various homes.” “There are some other communities that we think are safe but a vast majority of them will have to remain here because their villages and towns have been taken over by the Boko Haram elements. “Their wives have been forcefully attached to Boko Haram elements. In fact, I just heard they have already placed their flag in Kauri which means they have taken over the territory,” the governor added. Niger has faced a relentless assault from rampaging bandits in recent months. The state was at the centre of repeated abductions earlier this year and continues to endure insecurity. The governor now said the Boko Haram elements have also infiltrated the state and could soon march on Abuja, which shares a border with Niger. Boko Haram’s activities in central Nigeria as confirmed by Mr Bello came days after the insurgents overran Geidam, a large but densely populated community in Yobe. The insurgents have reportedly circulated their flyers and asked all residents to comply to the dictates of an emerging caliphate https://www.gazettengr.com/boko-haram-hoists-flag-near-shiroro-dam-power-station-moves-closer-to-abuja/?fbclid=IwAR0CdGYRdsZBJmPXVbffGLz2W7WBXGrwkcHCx4K62SUsBV6gC0p-4C2bvNE |

APRIL 25, 2021 9:03 PM A commander of one of the Nigerian army’s battalions fighting insurgency in the north-east may have been killed, military sources have told TheCable. Advertisement The commander, a lieutenant-colonel, was feared killed by suspected Boko Haram insurgents who attacked a military base in Mainok, Borno state, on Sunday. Thirteen soldiers were also said to have been killed in the attack. TheCable had earlier reported how soldiers engaged the insurgents. Advertisement But sources who spoke with TheCable said the troops were overpowered by the insurgents who came with “heavy weapons”. “They had four MRAPs [armoured military vehicles], four gun trucks and other heavy machines,” one of the sources said. “As I speak, the commanding officer has been hit, and some other soldiers. Advertisement “There was air support, but sadly, the air force missed its coordinates and couldn’t eliminate the insurgents.” Another source also said “the troops have been dislodged from the camp as the insurgents are taking over.” The insurgents, who were said to have stormed the base at about 2pm on Sunday, disguised in a military convoy and gained access into the premises before shooting sporadically and killing the soldiers. The insurgents also razed down a police station and looted weapons at the military base. Advertisement A military source said the insurgents operated for about two hours before fleeing the scene of the attack. When contacted, Mohammed Yerima, army spokesperson, said he will provide an update on the attack later https://www.thecable.ng/army-commander-feared-dead-as-insurgents-take-over-military-base-in-borno/amp?fbclid=IwAR0V40yyFzz5s2UAIQBOeDCpBYWhdRMITi2_LJazVH1MoFBIvHBXzddaoyI |

The truth is the only thing that can work for Nigeria right now is they should practice true federalism like America All states should fend for themselves, all local government should be in charge of his taxes , resources, security and infrastructure Hey should remit what ever percentage to the federal if there will be one. |
One thing I observed with Nigeria society is both the citizens, freedom fighters and political class are all wired in a wrong way When the foundation is faulty what can the righteous do ? |
