Jesus never spoke in tongues, never taught it to his disciples. The apostles who first spoke in tongues spoke under the indifluence of the holy spirit. God himself empowered them with this ability to speak foreign languages even without studying to be able to teach the word in far away lands and they spoke people's languages not some gibberish like churches do. So if u have the gift of tongues it simply means u can catch easily in speaking new languages. Just like some people can drive a car even without learning how to.
