I have some issues with my network. I noticed last week Wednesday that it locks out user accounts randomly even when no wrong password is entered. I used a tool Lockout status from Microsoft to narrow down where the lockouts were coming from, i noticed it was from the primary domain controller. I have received over a hundred calls to unlock accounts, this morning i just changed the lockout policy which used to be

Account lockout - 10 mins
Account lockout threshold - 20 invalid logons
Reset account lockout counter after - 10 mins
to
1 min
20 invalid logons
1 min

I know it's not a secure thing to do, but this is just a stop gap pending when i get a solution. Is there anything i'm missing, help guys.

Also after making sure of DNS and Active Directory, it is advisable you run forestprep and domain prep, before installing exchange proper and you can do that by typing d:\setup\i386\setup.exe /forestprep. When that is done you also run d:\setup\i386\setup.exe /domainprep, and d: depends on your cdrom drive letter. You can then run exchange by typing d:\setup\i386\setup.exe or you can follow the other method as specified by the site above. I hope this helps

in my network infrastructure i have 200 workstations,, 150 workstations have window vista business installed on them and use dns for name resolution.the other 50 have nt4 workstation installed on them they use an lmhost file with static entrance for name resolution i need to provide fault tolreance and be secure as possible and also the solution for dns issues , so i need to configure my computer to explain how to setup a dns server, because I'm providin solutions for the company

You mentioned that the vista workstations use dns for name resolution, you also ask how to configure the same dns. Anyways, although you did not say what server os your company uses, but i presume its windows server 2003, its quite easy to configure a dns server, just follow click on the link below http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814591 . Talking about fault tolerance, you have to find out exactly what your company wants in order to be able to decide on which of the RAIDs to use. I hope this help, if not still feel free to still point out the gray areas, will be glad to be of help.
