ComputersRe: Windows Vista Tweaks for Optimal System Performance by schibaba(m): 6:00pm On Aug 27, 2008
This is a lovely thread, and thanks guys for all the information and knowledge you pass on to us. Ex Inferis i loved you sermon about the spiritual convertion. Blessing await you.

I think we should all just use vista as a backup os, just incase there is any windows based app that will not drink WINE. Then you can lock it behind Windows and Gates.

I think the best things in life are given to us free.

It could be a Malware or Spyware problem. Avast is a good and free antivirus, it has always worked well for me. You could download Super Antispyware and Malwarbytes, these are free and very good Spyware and Malware removal tools. You could also get Windows Defender from Microsoft, its also rated high.

Good Luck
ComputersWork With Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Aol Mail And Any Imap Or Pop3 Mail Offline by schibaba(op): 11:14am On Aug 27, 2008
I think we all have this problem with yahoo, that one cannot view there emails when they are offline, unlike Gmail and other mail or corporate mails that could be downloaded with Outlook Express MS Outlook or Thunderbird. But now its possible to view your Yahoo! Mail and any other POP3 or IMAP enabled email offline and work offline too.

Zimbra, a Yahoo! (Nasdaq:YHOO) company a leader in open source, next-generation messaging and collaboration software, today announced the release of Yahoo! Zimbra Desktop Beta. Yahoo! Zimbra Desktop gives everyone access to a simple, centralized place to manage work, school and personal e-mail even when they are not connected to the Internet.

Through internet protocol support called Post Office Protocol (POP) and Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP), Yahoo! Mail, AOL Mail and Gmail can now be accessed offline at the same time, from the same place. Additionally, Yahoo! Zimbra Desktop allows users to use the iCal standard to take their calendar offline. Ill just say

THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE.

This thread has really been hot and educative. bigrovar (Bigbrother) thanks for the knowledge you have imparted. You have done justice to some stuff here.

Personally im migrating from MS to UBUNTU, cos i dont like running pirated apps and MS is not fully customizable to a users tast. Too many restrictions.

With Gnome, i think Linux has made it to the Desktop, and it is here to stay. The world is slowly going Open Source. I think if Stalwarts like Sun Microsystem is in then there is no going back.

No beef with MS, but the truth is if all Nigerians had to buy Original Copies of MS then we would really appreciate Open Source Projects. Open Source is truly the way for Africa. Developed countries are Migrating to Open Source, because of all its advantages.

I got mad a couple of days ago when i saw a Zinux Laptop loaded with Windows XP Starter Edition for Africa. So much was disabled on this Box that i got mad. Whats Starter Editionhuh Can anybody tell me.

Hey lets share the spirit of UBUNTU.

Bros bigrovar ill be expecting your Manual oh. YOU TOO MUCH.

If you are finding it difficult in downloading UBUNTU GUTSY,or you cant wait for the shipment, send an email to schibaba@yahoo.com with the subject Free UBUNTU. Ill burn and send it to you in the spirit of UBUNTU.wink wink
CareerCreating And E-mailing A Plain Text Resume by schibaba(op): 11:29am On Mar 31, 2008
Unlike Microsoft Word and other word processors, plain text does not allow bold, italics or different fonts. While it may seem boring, this simplicity allows recruiters to view resumes the same way regardless of the software they use.
Tools You'll Need

If you don't already have a text editor (and most people with computers do), you can get one for free online.
As far as text editors go, I like two in particular:

1.Notepad:If you're running Microsoft Windows software on your computer, chances are you have Notepad, which is Microsoft's default text editor.

2.NoteTab Light:
If you don't have Notepad or can't find it on your computer, you can download NoteTab Light for free here: http://download.com.com/3000-2352-8235248.html?tag=lst-0-4

Creating Your Plain Text Resume

There are two ways you can enter your resume into a text editor.
From scratch: Once you've found a text editor, start it up and begin typing in your resume. Keep the organization clean and simple. Read More
Career4 Career Risks Worth Taking by schibaba(op): 10:47am On Mar 27, 2008
Taking calculated risks in you career can help you reach your goals. Below are some of the common career risks that you may grapple with, and how to weigh your options.

RISK: Going Back to School

Making the financial and time commitment to go back to school for an advanced degree or certification can feel overwhelming. Factoring into the equation family responsibilities or not being able to quit your job to focus on school can make furthering your education feel like a heavier burden.

Weighing your options: "First you need to know your end goal and what you are trying to achieve by going back to school, such as a raise or changing career paths," advises career coach Hallie Crawford. "Next, determine if going back to school helps you achieve this goal by talking to your boss and mentors. In some fields an advanced degree matters, in others it really doesn't."

RISK: Changing Careers

So many people hate their jobs yet toil away daily because sticking with the familiar feels safe. There are a number of reasons why people are unhappy on the job, including being in a profession that does not utilize their passions and interests. Read More
CareerDiscussing Salary With Prospective Employer by schibaba(op): 4:15pm On Mar 25, 2008
At some point during your job search, you will likely be asked about your salary history -- how much you're making at your current job, and how much you made previously. Should you tell? Is there any way to avoid telling? And why do potential employers want to know, anyway?

When forming a response to these questions, it helps to understand employers' reasons for asking.

Employers tend to use your past pay as a gauge of your market value, says Richard Phillips, a career coach and owner of Advantage Career Solutions in Palo Alto, California, Read more

ComputersRe: Why Is My Laptop So Slow? Help! by schibaba(m): 6:26pm On Sep 10, 2007
The slowness of your computer could be caused by a lot of things.
Low amount of memory available, virus or Trojans/ worms, could also be caused by programs you have installed on your system. Some applications are resource monsters. The type of AVP (Anti Virus Program) you use could also be a problem. Norton used to be very good in the old days, but these days there are a lot of much better AVP's. Norton is very resource hungry, and i think they only leave on past Glory. You could do a lot of things to improve the performance of your system.

Uninstall unwanted applications or applications you do not use at all
Increase the amount of ram you have on your system,
Get a better antivirus to scan your system for viruses, worms and Trojans
Try to work on your virtual memory.

Or click HEREto see how you can tweak your computer for home, office and gaming performance.
NYSCRe: Corpers' Lodge: Ask Questions & Share Your NYSC Experience by schibaba(m): 6:20am On Feb 17, 2007
bukiboy:
well after reading all the post on this topic about NYSC, my own contribution is that NYSC gives you the chance to serve your country, i don't know and can't understand why most young graduate are against the scheme.
though i don't have the chance to serve my father land, i got exempted due to age reason which makes me felt so bad.some people may say am lucky but i bet you am not cause i have only stay in the west all my life the NYSC scheme could have been an eye opener for me to meet with other people living in this my great country.
most people have the dream of leaving NIGERIA,they always talk about the opportunity other countries will give them, but have they ever stop to think what it cost the people of those country to make their country what it is today?
i believe so much in NIGERIA, an i will always contribute to the betterment of this country NIGERIA.
let me share this with you when i was in secondary school s.s.I to be prisece, a young man with the name Mr. Akinrinola was posted to my school, the guy was saddled with responsibility to teach my class mathematics (i was in science class).this guy will come to my class with goddy-goddy, in my class we are 25 students the guy always come with 15 goddy-goddy,after each class he will give us class work and the first 15 student to get it right will have their share to the goddy-goddy, this actually challenge everybody in my class to attend his class not that we can't afford the goddy-goddy but everybody want to show off that they are brilliant.if a corper can do this why can we all.
i will forever be greatful to that man, though i don't know where he is now but i will always remember him for his good work.
teaching should be a natural thing to everybody, if some people don't sarcrifice their life to teach will you be in this forum talking about how bad or unlucky NYSC make you feel.
please lets all embrace this scheme, chichi i believe this is an opportunity to contribute your own support to your country.
so think about it well,
so people sacrifice their life for america to be the best country in the world and some people sacrifice their life to make you a better person today, take a cue from this "think about what you for your country and not what your country will do for you"
a word is enough for the wise.
peace.
am out
bukky.
bukky i would say dont be sad that you were exempted ok. the only thing that i would say you miss is the camp experience and of course the possiblity of mixing with different people from different school, background and mentality. Thats basically all.

Not everybody is born to teach, some people could know and understand something, but do not have the ability to pass it on. Thats why we have teaching as a profession and Banking as a profession. The scheme is funny and not well planned. like i said in one of my past post, a doctor is always sent to an Hospital to practice in his field and build himself for one year. A computer scientist or engineer should be sent to his field too to make himself relevant in his society and start building his future. Majority of the graduates loose one year in there field when they come back from NYSC. Because they never had a chance to practive in there field.

If its about teaching. then everybody should teach nomatter where you are posted to. Sometime its not about the allowee, if we were learning sometihing relevant in that time we would gain from the scheme and the country would gain from our services. I just think the wohle thing could be better planned especially this posting stuff.

Abuja should have a list of all the registered companies, schools, hositals etc in th country and post according to your course of study. I think this method would make more sense.

agnesoseka:
Odada, i like your post. Pt I-III of your story is definetly,a journal., nice one though!,

scibaba, u look over fed yet you complained of foodhuh hmnmmm.
agnesoseka, im the good looking guy with the white NYSC canvas. The other well fed Guy is my course mate, the chiks we met in camp. Lovely set of people.

ProgrammingRe: Php Installation Help by schibaba(m): 9:01am On Feb 10, 2007
nateone:
HI there,
i have been tryig to install php on my system for the past days but i couldnt, can some one help me with it, i yried to install from www.php.net, on a microsoft system
What you have to know is that PHP is a web development language. You need a webserver ike IIS5 or higher(Internet Informatioin Services), and a version of php that works with it. you can also use Apache whice is the default webserver that works with PHP and the world most widely use Webserver. Then you would need a databse if you want to develope webapplications and the besst for this is MYSQL. After you download a version of php that is suitable for you i would advice that you download version 4 then read through the installation help that comes withthe downloaded zip file. There are two kinds of installation you will find out. More.

Things could be much easier for you if you download one of the packages with PHP online like WAMP and there are a bulk of them. But if you do this you will not understand how to work with you PHP ini file which is important.

The mehtod where you do everything yourself is the prefered method of PHP.

skima:
http://www.reactorserver.com/
The site is working go for it, i've downloaded and install it for someone.

or better still www.easyphp.org I prefer reactorserver since its more uptodate than easyphp.

My first php installation was manual and was able to tweak every other installations.

want it manually?

ProgrammingRe: 12 Year-old Nigerian Bags Sun's Java Certificate by schibaba(m): 8:31am On Feb 10, 2007
candylips give the young guy some props now.

I mean at 12 he passed a certification. Men i no fit remember wetin i dey do at 12 (I cant remmember what i was doing at 12). Certification is really nothing, im not mcsc, but i have helped mcscs out in troubleshooting systems before and i found out that they didnt really have the hands on stuff. All they did was cram and pass the exam.

like cactus said, it jobs should be given to people whos know the practical stuff. i mean if im going for an IT interview, i should be given the technology of my strenght to work with and solve a small problem with itl. if under durex you can just do something close to solving the problem, it means you should be given a chance.

The question that should be asked in IT intervies is What Can You Do, and not what certification do you have.
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: Using Autocad by schibaba(m): 8:02am On Feb 10, 2007
hello guys,
sorry to ask a foolish question. Must i be an engineer to be able to use autocad very well and know what to do with it.

i am a computer science graduate and found out that you could make some cool cash if you can work with autocad.

so is it really for engineers only?
Christianity EtcRe: Pastor Chris Oyakhilome: Interview/Comments by schibaba(m): 1:26am On Jan 30, 2007
well he is my pastor and i think he is doing a marvelous work for the kingdom of God. if i may ask, in what area has he really made a mistake or is he being persecuted for. this whole thing is like the case of Jesus and the Pharisees and Sadducee's and all those other guys. they were always persecuting Jesus for the issues that didn't make sense. Remmember the Sadducee's were religious leaders, and same is happening today. Even the religious leaders are persecuting pastor Chris. i mean even leaders from reputable Pentecostal churches. we could go on and on, but lets leave the whole Judgment to God OK. At the End Jesus proved he was the Son of God. Chris will be judged by God, and not by man. I think everybody should work out there salvation with fear and trembling because at the end you will not be asked to give account of what Chris did, and he will not be required to give account of your own life.
NYSCRe: Corpers' Lodge: Ask Questions & Share Your NYSC Experience by schibaba(m): 8:02am On Jan 27, 2007
i thought i would be one of the last persons posting here, but its nice that the posts are kept alive.
@feelgood thanks for your encouragement. i really was more encouraged when i got home brass bayelsa state and found out how the corpers where enjoying themselves there. its an islalnd and you have to travel by boat to get there. first of all majority of the corpers didnt know how to swim. but they made it. good thing is governor Good-Luck gave all corpers posted to the riverine areas of the state lifevest. Other good thing is brass though an island in the atlantic, has living standards like a very normal city in nigeria. you get all you want there.

You see the major problem i have with NYSC is what should a computer science graduate be doing in a village where there is no light and network. no means of communication with the outside world. in one year you will be very backward. im still serving in Ebonyi but i had to leave that village. i think it would be more apreciated if every body is posted to an area where they could practice what they thought in the univesity. doctors and pharmacist are always given prefrence here. why? i never seena doctor thats not serving in an hospital. so what is an enginer doing in the village or a bank. this is a matter that must really be addressed by NYSC.
NYSCRe: Corpers' Lodge: Ask Questions & Share Your NYSC Experience by schibaba(m): 1:47am On Dec 13, 2006
Well I'm currently serving in Ebonyi State, and i must tell you i am not finding it easy. I refused to work my posting because i didn't want to be bleeped up, you know how it is you pay and it doesn't come through.
Well camp was fun, depends on what you define as fun. You get your Allowi and you use it to work on your Khaki, because they never fit. At the beginning i was eating from Mami. When money Finish Dem no tell me before i start to eat Kitchen food cheesy. God the tea sucked was like a big drum of hot water 1 cube of sugar and 1 Cowbell milk you can imagine how that would taste. I Caught some sick stuff on my ass that i just got rid off. Skin infection i got from the pit toilet shocked.
I ll say the whole thing is a challenge. If you think you are a conquerer, then come and conquer. Some of the remote villages could be fun and some of the big cities could be hell. You can imagine corpers walk the streets of Lagos looking for a place of primary assignment while in some villages they have nothing to do just launging.
Sista think about it. You could actually work it to a more developed location say PH, Abuja or Lagos, Enugu, etc there you might not be too shocked. For me I'm still in Ebonyi State i just started 3 months ago, and its not fun but i think i can make it. If people have made it in worse situations, then i don't think i have an excuse. Or you can just come for camp have fun then arrange the rest. thats also possible.
One thing you should put into consideration is that there is always a good and bad side to every situation, for the camp experience you might have to part with something, but you will also gain something. Yeah we know that people make money from the experience, thats Nigeria. Everybody uses his or her office the right way share the money grin.
i think you might have already made your decision before this post comes. but any how you decide i wish you the best. Come lets make Nigeria a better place. smiley
Here is a pic of me from camp. the guy with the the white canvas on. feet were to big for the jungle boots.

FamilyRe: Are Women In Nigeria Supposed To Expect And Accept Cheating Husbands? by schibaba(m): 5:33pm On Apr 09, 2006
Well not all men in Nigeria cheat. What i believe is Men were created with the tendency of being promiscuous, it takes a real man to with stand the possibility of not cheating.
The ladies also don't make it easy for men especially married men. What i have come to find out is that younger ladies would rather have something to do with a man that is married than one that is not, because they think it is easier for them to let go of him when they are tired, and that he can better foot there bills.
I think what women should understand about men is the fact that if a man cheats on his wife it doesn't mean he doesn't love her. And a man is not a lesser man because he cheats or doesn't cheat.
Its just something that most of them have to get hold of, and i think the best way to handle it is for both husband and wife to talk it over in peace instead of causing wahala, because that will send him out more to his other chicks.
