Obviously an error from an untrained lab personnel on methodology. Personnel likely a technician not supposed to handle same without a lab. scientist. I will still advise you have same repeated two reputable labs in Lagos. All the best

Technicians are not allowed to run tests on hemoglobinopathies like Genotype in any Lab or hospital worth it's salt without direct and close supervision by a Scientist. It is strictly a Medical Scientist's purview especially one who is a specislist in Hematology.

An I.T student, S.L.T or zoology graduate employed by physicians to cut cost probably ran that test. He should go to EL-Labs in surulere and run a confirmation.

It is owned and run by thorough Scientists and professionals.

A person can not have both AS and AA genotype at the same time. It's either she's AS or AA. From your narrative, the results from that hospital is wrong since it's the only result that says she AS.
The lab scientist that told you she has both AS and AA genotype is only trying to cover up for his mistake.
So, just relax and don't bring problems into your marriage.

Are you sure the person is licensed Scientist or the quacks or I.T students hired to cut costs. He should go for Haemoglobin quantification assay test and ask to see the Medical Scientist in charge of the Hematology unit at the lab.

It is a confirmatory test, more expensive but worth it.

I have worked in a hospital before. Sometimes a dept in the hospital is not as efficient as the reputation of the hospital. The lab result was wrong. They were wrong. Their lab is inefficient! The hospital is wack because they probably buy cheap lab consumables or hire cheap lab scientist or they may just have it students they don't pay at all sef.

Most private hospitals don't even hire Scientists, they even find it difficult to pay lab technicians, they prefer hiring I.T students of SLT, and others who read zoology etc. Even the physician sometimes run the tests themselves without adequate training. Blame the physician who hire quacks mostly to run the labs and refuse to be regulated by the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria.

The only professional qualified to run Genotype tests and investigate hemoglobinopathies are Medical Laboratory Scientists specialized in Hematology.

If you go into any lab or hospital ask and be sure that the person in charge is a Licensed Medical Scientist. Meet him to explain the rudiments of the results to you.. It is your right.

what many of you don't understand is medical practice is divided into preclinical and clinical.
in Nigeria, doctors do PhD in preclinical courses to lecture in Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry.
The clinical is different.
The teaching in clinical is more of in the hospital beside the sick patient, in the operation theatre where surgery is being done.
How do you want someone who hasn't done any surgery before but only had PhD in surgery be lecturing in the hospital?

There was not way you can have PhD in surgery without doing surgery, the admission requirement and course outline is very clear in that website.
Stop lying that physicians in other countries don't need PhD, there are many professors with 'MD, PhD' teaching students in other countries. Nigeria must follow suit.
