A tailors shop has been destroyed by officials sent by the government. Though no reason was given for the destruction of the shops; one of the shop owner who is a tailor recorded the scene as she wept.

According to her; the government told Nigerians to stay at home, which she obeyed. Now, the same government has destroyed her shop without informing them or even allowing them to come pick up any valuables they have in their shops.

She complained that numerous customers had their clothes/materials in the shop and she also had expensive machines which were all destroyed along with the shop

South Africa is mourning the death of a globally recognized scientist, Gita Ramjee, who lost her life to coronavirus. She was 64.

“Professor Ramjee was renowned for her work on finding HIV prevention methods that were conducive to the lifestyles, circumstances and perceived risk factors that South African women face, as well as attempts to find an effective HIV vaccine,’’ Deputy President David Mabuza said in a statement Wednesday.

“We have indeed lost a champion in the fight against the HIV epidemic, ironically at the hands of this global pandemic,’’ Mabuza said.

South Africa has over 7 million people living with HIV/AIDS, one of the largest caseloads in the world.

Coronavirus has claimed five lives in South Africa so far and infected 1,353 others, according to the Health Ministry.

Ramjee recently returned to South Africa from a trip to London without showing COVID-19 symptoms, but later fell sick and was admitted to a hospital in Durban on the East Coast where she died on Tuesday, according to local media reports.

Two years ago, she was internationally recognized for her expertise in the field of microbicide research, including receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award for HIV Prevention and honored with the Outstanding Female Scientist award by the European Development Clinical Trials Partnerships for work in finding new HIV prevention methods.

Tributes and condolence messages have been pouring in from across the globe where her work impacted millions.

Winnie Byanyima, head of the UNAIDS, said in a message posted on her official Twitter handle that she was “deeply saddened at the news of the passing of Gita Ramjee.’’

She said Ramjee was an eminent scientist who dedicated her life to HIV prevention for women and girls in Africa.

The Global Advocacy for HIV Prevention (AVAC) said: “Deeply saddened by the loss of an HIV prevention pioneer."

It described Ramjee as a tireless champion of science, research, women’s reproductive health and rights.

He was not sick, went for cosmetic surgery to reduce his big tummy and died on the theatre table due to NEPA outage. Power outage affects everyone even the richest. I'm sure he would have gone abroad for the the cosmetic procedure if not for the lockdown. So technically he is a Covid-19 casualty.

We’ve seen this play out all over the world. By not testing enough, people are deceived into thinking the virus is not spreading. Meanwhile, the virus keeps spreading on the down-low. When they finally start testing, there is an explosion of new cases. In some cases the virus spreading has advanced to a point where they lost all hope of containing it and only test people with major symptoms who need to be hospitalized.

There is no alternative to testing. Lockdown and even wearing face-masks will only slow it down. Testing sufficiently can stop the virus. If you can find all the people that are currently infected and isolate them, the diseases can no longer spread. You have to keep testing as many people as you can and eventually it will get to a point where the new cases will start dropping. It happened in South Korea and Taiwan. The longer you wait, the more massive the testing you have to do to contain the virus. Not containing it is not an option.

The policy of only testing people with travel history was terribly, comically, and obviously unwise.

More medical laboratories should be designated as testing or collection centres. Infact private labs should be brought into fold (as long the FG can supply them with Biosafety level 4 PPE equipments and funds) and designated as collection centres where people can go submit samples for onward transfer to a centralized covid-19 testing laboratory.

We can have at least 1 collection centre private lab per local government to gather samples and send to centralized medical molecular labs.

There is no other way.
