horsepower102: Such characters thrive on Nairaland because of the anonymity it protects. I have over the years learnt not to take people’s anti-igbo unity comments too seriously. On Nairaland, you and I can pretend to be anyone we want to be.
Also, Nairaland gives a Microphone and loud speakers to extreme minority voices. Thereby making it look like their views are mainstream.
In the past, I was a big advocate of igbos leaving Nairaland to create their own space so we can have very progressive and productive conversations. BUT the problem with that idea is who is going to fight against all the lies and propaganda agains igbos in this site when we all leave?
My ideal scenario is that igbos maintain strong presence on Nairaland but also have our own separate forum where we can discuss our issues in peace and come up with solutions for them. I come to Nairaland just to have fun. Nothing serious can be discussed on a faceless forum where people could claim to be anything. You can follow real people on Facebook, twitter, or Instagram |

[s] IDENNAA: This is coming from a very ignorant place. To start with Eze in Igbo land means king. So , why should you refer to Eze Nri as a chief ? You came across as if you wanted to make a legitimate argument but you are only driven by jealousy and inferiority complex...a glance from afar tells me you are certainly from Imo state.
I am not here to,debate a hopeless man without culture or identity! But , everything that has been written about Nri were generated by research spanning over a millennium. When the colonial master arrived they took middlemen with them who were familiar with the area and asked questions. Remember , Nri was tucked into the Omanbala hinterland and it was reference that took them specifically to Agukwu. The invention of Nri played a formative role in shaping Igbo culture. I hate to debate a cultureless man with absolutely nothing to be proud of or fight for. Go down to Imo and celebrate iwa akwa! Usu enwero onu ! [/s] Rubbish! |

NaijirianKing: The problem with those bearing Igbo names who are indegiens to the newly created political space named the "South South" is that their denial of who they are weakens them and their cause, to the point where smaller groups in the region can boss them around because they voluntarily cut themselves off from the larger Igbo Nation.
Moreover, when Igbos help those residing in the South South who have Igbo names, it often back fires.
Rivers State and Bayelsa State used to be one state. And the Ijaw would artificially inflate the number of votes coming from present day Bayelsa and would win every election in the state due to these numbers.
Rivers Igbos had no political voice.
It was Igbos from the Southeast, led by Former VP Ekwueme who said, since Ijaw have such a high population in Bayelsa it's unfair for them not to have their own state, he used the voters registries to bolster his point.
Eventually his agenda went through and Rivers Igbos were made a majority in one state, while Ijaw we're made a majority in the sister state.
As expected, the population of Bayelsa reduced by 73% upon becoming a state, thus revealing the electoral magic that had been taking place during the prior 17 years. The Ijaw claimed it was because of mass migration to PH, but that's another story.
So Igbos helped out those from the South South, however are still viewed with vitriol.
That's why the new generation is focused on the SE. Imagine if the SE Igbos put their efforts into a 6th state for the SE, where such efforts will always be appreciated.
https://m.guardian.ng/opinion/how-ekwueme-helped-create-more-states/ Some Igbos in the so called South South are short sighted! However, we still have many pro Igbo communities over there. The vocal minorities make the largest noise! Whichever way it is, it will be a win for our kinsmen in the Niger delta. My State also belongs to the Niger delta |

NaijirianKing: I'm assuming you yourself have English names, abi?
If you do, I don't blame you, many of our parents were still suffering from the mental impacts of domination, inferiority complex, and colonialism.
However, our generation can end those things as we are wiser and don't look at the European as superior to us as Africans. At least, the majority of us no longer think this way.
However, once again, you are free to call yourself "William Davis Chistopher Cooper Wallace Njoku." I have an Igbo name, a baptismal name, and an Igbo surname! I will do the same to my kids. I'm fiercely Igbo as it can get! All Igbos have Igbo names. That's one of our identification |

NaijirianKing: My Oga, I reside in Atlanta, and I force whites, Asians, Blacks, Arabs to pronounce my full name, my full Igbo name.
I'm proud Igbo. If you can say Arnold Schwarzenegger, you can say Uchenna, Ebuka, Chima, Chukwuma, and Chioma.
Be proud of who you are or no one else will. I'm a proud Igbo as well! I went to Malaysia and realized that the vast majority of the people who quite friendly couldn't pronounce my native name to my satisfaction! I don't like people mispronouncing my name. I had to tell them my baptismal name. So, how could I hate them just because they were ignorant? Again, all Igbos have Igbo names! English names are mostly baptismal names. The vast majority of Igbos today are Christians! You can't force your view on them |

[s] MelesZenawi: There are things that doesn't need reply because as at today traditional rulers in anambra wields enough power in their respective towns.
It is only a town without people that will allow their Governor to humiliate their traditional ruler. Emir of kano has its power starting and. Ending in kano. He has no jurisdiction outside that. Only his people in power will accord him more respect to lift his status.
That been said...All traditional has their full powers intact...you can't just enter and mess it up....who are you to do that...
If so let obiano try rubbish with Obi of onitsha, Igwe orizu, Eze ndi Eze or even any other let's see how it goes...
Even Ngige will tell better.
Gidigidi bu ugwu eze...

Even if for religious purposes, our names venerate God in our culture and language.
In Europe, they don't use Igbo names, even as middle names. In Igboland we should use the names of our culture. [/s] Non issue! All Igbos still use Igbo names. Igbo people are not the only ones with middle names. Many Yoruba's have either English or Arabic middle names! This is a non issue! |

There is no king or anything of such there. Uselessness at its peak.
Anyone can be an eze of an autonomous road over night. [/s] Gibberish! Traditional rulers only have ceremonial powers. No traditional ruler in Igboland is as powerful as the Emir of Kano yet, the Governor cut him to size. The only traditional ruler in Anambra state is the Obi of Onitsha. The others are warrant chiefs! So, how are they different from the leaders of any other community? |

If touh introduce yourself to someone and they can't pronounce tour name and make no effort to, then leave the person as you don't have their respect. Story! Leave a person just because they can't pronounce your name? Bro, your theory is good for some empty headed morons! Do you realize that many people do not know another place apart from their country? Do you know how many Americans who think that Africa is just a country? Do you know how many Asians who think Africa is a country? Do you prefer people to mispronounce your name? It is no fault of theirs if they can't pronounce African names. Many people are still getting to know more about Africans and you just want us to do away with them just because these people can't pronounce our names properly? Your theory is good only for morons! |

Igbophobia is actually inferiority complex manifestation.
Because any rational human being with a sense of dignity and self worth will not be showing this level of hypocrisy.
You hate igbos but want to have half igbo children. Isn’t that madness? Igbophobia is real! It is not just a Yoruba issue. It is a bigger issue in the Niger Delta! NaijirianKing: This is quite unfortunate, women only do what the men of that society allow.
Since we have no penalty, this continues. Of such women were made to be marginalized for not valuing the culture, you would see an overnight change.
Lastly, Igbo people bearing colonial names must end with this next generation. There should be no one here who names their child a foreign name, because foreigners aren't naming their children with Igbo name.
Even our royal fathers have English names, this is a disgrace, the Queen of England would never name her daughter Ngozi, but our Igwes will make their daughter Annabelle or Mary. You want to dictate to people what names to bear? This is funny! You must realize that the Europeans are at the top of the economy. There's nothing you can do about that for now |

garfield1: Princess Miriam Odinaka Onuoha of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the House of Representatives rerun election for the Isiala Mbano/Onuimo/Okigwe federal constituency in Imo State. Princess Onuoha defeated her closest rival Obinna Onwubuariri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the rerun election that was held in 18 polling units in the constituency. It would be recalled that an Appeal Court sitting in Owerri had upheld the sacking of Onwubuariri as the member representing Isiala Mbano/Onuimo/Okigwe federal constituency in the House of Representatives. This followed Princess Onuoha’s ability to prove her claim of over-voting, mutilation of figures and violence in the petition she filed at the tribunal. Onuoha, a native of Umunachi Osu-Ama in Insiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo, will now represent Mbano/Onuimo/Okigwe federal constituency at the House of Representatives following her victory. Onuoha, who is fondly called “Mama SURE-P”, had promised to leave a footprint of development in Okigwe North if elected into office. Princess Miriam is a graduate of Estate Management from the University of Lagos (UNILAG). She holds a masters degree in Environmental Planning and Protection from the University of Abuja. Good one for Mama Sure-P. Kingsley's has been a gross failure! It is not about party but about the individual! |
