Thursday’s repeal of the Kano Emirates Council Law, which saw the sacking of the five emirs and the appointment of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano revealed how politics continued to determine the reign of traditional rulers in the foremost emirate.

Since the First Republic, emirs of the ancient city have had to contend with the whims of some political leaders holding forth in the territory.

The first to taste this bitter pill was the 11th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, who had a running battle with the northern regional government headed by Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto.

Relations between Sanusi and the Northern People’s Congress (NPC) government led by Ahmadu Bello was said to have turned sour when senior members of the party in Kaduna became disenchanted with the emir’s towering personality, and rising influence.

A probe panel set up by the northern regional government headed by D.J.M Muffet, the sole commissioner recommended the forced resignation of the 11th Fulani Emir of Kano.

On March 28, 1963, the then Regional Governor, Sir Kashim Ibrahim received the letter of resignation tendered by the embattled emir, which the government accepted.

Sanusi, was subsequently deposed and banished to Azare in Bauchi State, where he maintained a low profile.

He was succeeded by his uncle, Muhammadu Inuwa, son of Emir Abbas and younger brother to the late Emir Abdullahi Bayero, whom Sanusi succeeded.

His ouster created political tension in Kano leading to the formation of Kano People’s Party (KPP), which clamoured for the creation of Kano region, independent of the Northern Region.

KPP members were largely sympathetic to the deposed emir.

The Action Group, led by Chief Obafemi Awolowo, tried to make political capital out of the seemingly declining political fortune of the NPC in Kano ahead of the 1964 general election.

Emir Inuwa’s reign was short, as he died on the throne six months later. Inuwa, however, managed internal rebellion from older children of the deposed emir.

Ado Sanusi, who held the traditional title of Daniya, was promoted to Galadima by Emir Inuwa, a position he rejected and instead tendered his resignation. This action angered the emir who decreed a dismissal instead.

Ado Bayero, a younger brother to Sanusi, was appointed Emir of Kano by the northern regional government on October 22,1963, to succeed Muhammadu Inuwa.

He was the longest reigning emir in the history of Kano emirate after the Sokoto jihad, but he also had collision with politicians in the course of his reign.

After the military coup of January 15, 1966, the enormous powers of the native authority, which was under the emir, was reduced and this was compounded by the local government reform of the 1970s, depriving the emir of full control over local government councils.

After the 1979 elections, the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) government led by Abubakar Rimi, had a bitter relationship with the then Emir Ado Bayero. The PRP was an offspring of the Northern Elements Progressive Union (NEPU), whose agenda was for the emancipation of the poor from oppression, over taxation and the overbearing influence of the emirate.

Governor Rimi’s query issued to the emir led to riots in Kano in July, 1981. To further reduce the powers of the emir, Rimi created new emirates of Gaya, Rano, Dutse and Auyo, giving them first class statuses as emir Ado Bayero.

The emirs of Kazaure, Gumel and Hadejia, now in Jigawa State, were also upgraded to first class status.

In 1982, Governor Rimi relocated the deposed Emir Sanusi from Azare in Bauchi State to Wudil, near Kano, raising suspicion that he wanted to reappoint him.

However, respite came the way of Emir Bayero following the 1983 election, which saw the defeat of Rimi by PRP’s Aliyu Sabo Bakinzuwo.

The first action of Governor Bakinzuwo was to remove all the emirs appointed by Rimi and demoted them to their previous positions.

Ado Bayero will go on to survive many military administrations, including the Abacha regime that allegedly planned to balkanize Kano State, allegedly in pursuance of the self-succession bid of the military ruler.

Oral accounts had it that when Bayero got wind of the plot, he reportedly called the Commander-in-Chief to personally say ‘thank you’. Perhaps, many in Kano believed, that killed the plot.

Ado Bayero was the lone emir in the state after the creation of Jigawa, which saw the movement of Kazaure emirate to the new state.

His long reign came to an end on June 6, 2014, following his death after 50 years on the throne.

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who had been removed as CBN governor by ex- President Goodluck Jonathan, succeeded him on June 8.

Late Ado Bayero’s eldest son, Lamido Sanusi Ado Bayero, left Kano in protest of the appointment.

And in 2015, the new emir, who changed his official name to Muhammad Sanusi II, stripped Lamido Ado Bayero of his title of Chiroman Kano, and in his stead elevated his younger brother, Nasiru Ado Bayero, to the position and made him the district head of Nasarawa.

Sanusi also elevated Aminu Ado Bayero to Wambai from Sarkin Dawakin Tsakar Gida.

After the 2019 election, which was won by Ganduje, five new emirates were created on May 8.

This action was believed by many to be targeted at the then 14th Emir, Sanusi, whom the governor believed opposed his re-election and was critical of his policies.

The creation of the new emirates was challenged in court by two members of the State House of Assembly, who contended that due process was not followed and Justice Usman Na’Abba voided the law establishing the emirates.

But it was a temporary respite as Governor Ganduje assented to a new law establishing the emirates on December 5, the same year.

One of the beneficiaries of the new law was Aminu Ado Bayero, who was made emir of the newly created Bichi emirate.

Legal fireworks ensued thereafter over the new emirates culminating in the deposition of Emir Sanusi and his banishment to Awe in Nasarawa State on March 9, 2020.

Aminu Ado was subsequently appointed Emir of Kano.

The 2023 election in the state changed the dynamics around the new emirates as the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) led government made its intention known that the emirates created by the previous administration would go.

A Cautionary Note To Northern Emirs, By Nasir Aminu



The news that Sanusi Lamido will be returned as the Emir of Kano is worrying following the passing of a new traditional institutional bill that repeals the one passed in 2019.

Kano is one of the oldest traditional emirates in West Africa. It has a rich traditional history, with its first Sultan dating back to 1349. Throughout this illustrious history, such a shameful act or political gimmick has never tarnished its legacy.

As things stand, the new law repeals the Kano State Emirates Council Law of 2019 and its subsequent amendments. All the newly created emirates under the 2019 law will be dissolved. This includes the abrogation of all positions and titles that were established as part of these new emirates. The law calls for all individuals who were given titles or positions under the repealed 2019 law to return to their previous roles, provided those roles existed according to traditional customs before the enactment of the 2019 law. The new law also gave theGovernor of Kano State the power to take all necessary actions to restore the traditional emirate system to its state before the 2019 law was passed.


In saner climes, the legitimate northern emirs will unite to reject the removal of the current Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Bayero. And when the appointment of Sanusi Lamido is ever contemplated, the northern traditional rulers should reject the idea, too. But this is an assumption that our traditional rulers are objective, have a fear of God in their minds, and are not scared of telling the truth to power, the way our fathers and grandfathers did.

Of course, there is a precedence. When the controversial Emir of Muri was appointed in 1988, the northern traditional rulers came together to boycott him because he was not elected by the Kingmakers. They have since refused to engage with him, and the Emirate has been relegated to among those who are less revered.

The boycott is a similar feat facing the Zazzau emirate, and this is due to the role SLS played in supporting el-Rufai's appointment of an unelected candidate by the kingmakers in October 2020. The public followed the event, and everyone was clear that the kingmakers did not select him to be the Emir, but they went on to install him. SLS’s controversial interference has left Zazzau handicapped with diminished relevance in the north, quite unlike what it used to be under the last Emirs since the 1800s.

This controversy is making the Kano emirate a political playhouse for the political parties. If the removal of the Kano emirs is allowed to succeed, then the removal of emirs will be made as easy as removing an unelected government official. As I mentioned in November 2020, the long-term consequences of el-Rufai's action will only appear once he has left the government. The action that is thought to be a one-off is becoming a permanent fixture for politicians, and it will continue. If left unchecked, this will be replicated all around the country.

Therefore, the legitimate Northern Emirates must act fast. They must come together to reject this controversial political gimmick. They must remember that the legitimacy of the Northern Emirs is based on traditional governance methods. The interference of a governor only creates more crisis, as we witnessed in Zazzau, Sokoto, Gwandu, Muri, Borgu, Kwande, and many other emirates in the last decades. Choosing to delay will be costly for them, if not immediately, eventually.The northern Emirs must remember that our traditional institutions, a foundation for our culture and discipline, will be weakened and even governed by impostors, as we have witnessed recently.

The traditional institution is one that makes policy implementation effective and efficient because they are the closest to the community. Providing feedback to the government on the social well-being of society signals the effects of policies. Whenever there is a break in trust between the political leaders and the constituents, the traditional leaders work tirelessly to rebuild it. They are the political fire brigades because of their credibility and the historical trust between them and the community. They are the approachable elites in the society because their lives are as Spartan as any commoner. Several democratic regimes, and even the military administrations, relied on credibility to build and rebuild trust within the public.

Therefore, if the northern emirs choose not to intervene, we may witness the people from the five emirates of Kano resorting to vigilantism. God forbid we see a repeat of the uprising we witnessed when SLS was appointed Emir in 2014. Similarly, we may see unrest in different emirates across the north, where the people are dissatisfied with their leaders. This could even be the springboard for the people to demand the traditional institutions and empires that existed pre-1804. It could also spur national security challenges in an already volatile region.

Now, let's discuss. Did you notice anything? Yes, the 1 month increment on the month it will top. This means, in each coming cycle, the day to witness the top increases by a month.

The funny thing is, BTC can change pattern when it wishes and opt for a shorter or even a longer period. For this unpredictability, let's have a +3 or -3 months buffer as our option 2 & 3.

This is to say, our

Option 1 is December, 2025 to see the top — 1 year & 7 months after halving.
Option 2 is October, 2025 (2-3 months early).
Option 3 is February, 2026 (2-3 months late).

So, in summary, BTC has a higher chance (if the pattern continues) of seeing its top in one of the above months.

Finally, here are there cheat codes to remember for the rest of your life.

Tip 1. After BTC bottoms, you get 18 months (1 year + 6 months) sideways movements to next halving.
Tip 2. After that halving, you get another 18 months (1 year and 6 months) of bullrun to hit the top.
Tip 3. After that top, you 12 months (1 year) ± 1 month, to hit the bottom. Now reread tip 1-3 and you'll see the loop.

Mathematically,

18 months of sideway + 18 months of halving to top + 12 months of top to bottom = 48 months.

Divide 48 by 4 (years of the cycle).

48/4 = 12 months.

Therefore, 48 months = the 4 year cycle. In the 48 Laws of Power, law 48 says, "Do not go past the mark you aimed for. In victory, know when to stop."

Use the above as a guide, but stop and observe if there is something new to the formula that has been giving others who have been using it for years uncanny victory.

Also, stop trying to make all the money in the world in one bullrun — learn to leave before greed takes over.

And when you leave, don't come back until it's the right time based on the knowledge contained here, else you MAY lose everything.

After you've left at the top of the market or close to it, but it keeps pumping and you know it's just a trap, then it's time to start a short trade with small leverage with at most, 3-5% of your money and 3-5% leverage. This particular advice is only for pros.

So, after the top, which takes 18 months ±, in most cases, start buying BTC by bit from the 11th month, 3 weeks to 12th month, 3 weeks.

For the alts, don't buy yet until BTC has spent at least, 12 months of its 18 months of sideways.

Even after that, there are some alts you still shouldn't buy (except a few Layer 1) until halving because any time BTC sneezes, they'll dump further.
               
The worst that'll happen to change the process is a lagging or overshoot of 2-3 months. When it settles, what's gonna be is gonna be — the pattern continues.

Even ETF didn't disrupt it, it only made it have a new ATH ahead of time, just  the same way COVID crash didn't disrupt the pattern — it only liquidated lots of short positions. A man/woman with this knowledge is ahead of most blind traders or HODLers.

Knowledge isn't power, but applied one is. Some people will read this and forget, but you that download it for future reference and apply it will be ahead and more levelheaded.

Don't forget, since it will take 18 months after halving to hit the top, 6-12 months into it, there will be a huge crash of 30 - 50+% and most people will panic sell/run or short and the moment they do, 1-3 months later, the remaining 3 months (to make it 18 months) will see a parabolic pump to liquidate the shorters in an instant and the runners will jump back in when it's already at the top and they'll be used as exit liquidity by the big boys.

So, remember law 48, which says, "Do not go past the mark you aimed for. In victory, know when to stop."
