Politics / Re: For Nigeria's Health: You, My Friend, Are Responsible by segun06: 7:58pm On Jun 01, 2006
Now this turning into a christian thread.
Politics / Re: For Nigeria's Health: You, My Friend, Are Responsible by segun06: 3:16am On May 27, 2006
In Nigeria, as far as Nigeria is concerned, do you then have any responsibility, since the greatest barrier to learning together is very poor communication

Maybe you should explain yourself. Maybe we would have understood better if the title read: For Nigeria's Health, WE are responsible.
Politics / Re: For Nigeria's Health: You, My Friend, Are Responsible by segun06: 8:40pm On May 25, 2006
Prophet, there comes a time when we all have to swallow our pride and admit we are wrong. I personally don't see how i can be responsible for what other people do or don't do. So i say this: For Nigeria's Health, We should all Unite.
Politics / Re: Kwame Nkrumah, Was His Ambition To Unite Africa A Selfish One? by segun06: 3:20am On May 03, 2006
larger_20:

That is a possibility but think about this,

If i have the money and u have nothing and u come to me to be united, don't u think that the rich shall benefit more from the relationship? I am saying this because in africa, some countries are richer than others like south africa, stable economy of ethiopia and the growing economy of ghana, eritriea and some east african countries like brundi. We can't really compare these ones with countries like zimbawaea and sudan.

The wall must exist unless we establish a capital government,

But you see we will all profit from a united Africa. It could mean a better standard of living for Africans, better economies, peace of mind, free trade and so on. The Western media protrays us all as one entity, they rarely differentiate between the rich African countries and the poor African countries.
Politics / Re: Kwame Nkrumah, Was His Ambition To Unite Africa A Selfish One? by segun06: 2:56am On May 02, 2006
I think the idea of a United Africa sounds good, but I think the African Union(AU) just needs to be more efficient. We don't need to all come together and become a country, but if we could have the representatives from each country meet and discuss the issues within their individual countries and find solutions to their problems, i think Africa would be United.

I think the only problem with Nigeria, are Nigerians. We do not appreciate the consequences of our actions, and even when we do we don't care. Nowadays, our future leaders are too busy trying to be something they are not (American/ European, you pick). We are giving up our way of llife for the way of life of others, not realizing that the people we are trying to imitate are the way they are because they can afford to. They can afford to be materialistic, because they have a good government that will most of the time take care of them; now if in Nigeria everyone knows that the goverment is as unreliable as the Nigerian weathermen, why are we still relying on them, why do we expect the government to provide for us? Nigeria would be a much better place if we had more producers of relevant goods and services. Paraphrasing from some great man's words: Ask not what your government can do for you, but what you can do for your government.

Some guys decide to go on a killing spree, am i responsible?
The president decides to spend our money on new planes, am i responsible?
Clifford Oji decides to eat other people, am i responsible?
Nigeria is ranked the 2nd poorest country in the world, am i responsible?
January 27, 2002, am i responsible?
Obasanjo is still in office, am i responsible?
There are people on the streets with no where to go, am i responsible?
Africa is considered the poorest continent in the world, am i responsible?

There are things i can not be held resonsible for.
There are things out of my control
I can not be responsible for the actions of my fellow human beings,  i can only be resonsible for my own actions.

Politics / Re: Nigeria Calls! - "Arise O Compatriots, Nigeria's Call Obey!" by segun06: 4:08am On Apr 22, 2006
Pastor, you need to state the primary purpose of this thread. Are you trying to tell people to come together and help improve Nigeria, or are you trying to tell people that religion is the way to save Nigeria.

Personally, i do not think thread is about you or me, i think its about us Nigerians coming together to save Nigeria.

Point taken.
Politics / Re: Why Are Alot Of Nigerians (and Africans) Poor In A Rich Country by segun06: 6:08am On Apr 15, 2006
papers and education are the guaranteed keys to success in a "rich country"while no papers and education guarantees poverty in a "rich country", every group of people in that country regardless of where they are form have a liitle bit of both in the mix, including some citizens of that country, shoosh

I totally disagree with you, haven't you ever seen a conductor quoting Newton's law of motion. Or haven't you ever seen a rich man/woman who can't recite the alphabet? Education is useless if it can not be applied into the student's daily life. A lot of Nigerians are poor, because our leaders are stealing all our money; its that simple.
Politics / Re: Why Do You Behave Like You Hate Nigeria So Much? by segun06: 5:39am On Apr 15, 2006
Why do we act like we don't want to see Nigeria grow?  Why do we try so hard to be something, we are not?  Why do we try to ignore the problems in our country?  WHy do we not support eachother?  Why do we let our leaders, lead us astray?  Why do we play while our house is on fire?  Why do we trade our culture in exchange for someone elses?  Why are we so willing to kill our brothers and sisters for money?  Why do we believe that we are better than every other Nigerian?  Why do we need anymore form of segregation, in this overly diverse society we live in?  Why can't we all just come together as one, and work for the betterment of Nigeria?

Perhaps it is THE CURSE OF HAM. The prophet might understand what this means.
Politics / Re: Why Do You Behave Like You Hate Nigeria So Much? by segun06: 5:26am On Apr 15, 2006
This is becoming very common on Nairaland. Someone starts a thread with a very meaningful post, but by the next two or three posts the direction of the thread as totally changed.
To some extent i understand what prophet is trying to say, but when you introduce religion into such a wide post, you create conflict. The post refers to all Nigerians, but since not all Nigerians believe in God you are excluding some people. Hence i understand why Exu would believe this thread should be in the religion section. Don't understand why Hero sound so mad, maybe he has a crush on the prophet (just kidding).
Politics / Re: Nigeria's Problem: Is It The Container Or The Content? by segun06: 5:05am On Apr 15, 2006
But what can be done? Those who try to make a change, are not allowed to. Those who try to ignore the problems, can't survive in Nigeria. Those who believe there is no hope for Nigeria, will chose either to be the terrorists or the terrorized. Those who run away have to deal with their conscience.

Why this thread?

Cos' it is about time it dies. When was the last time Fat joe said any other words to 50 cent?
Politics / Re: Nigeria Calls! - "Arise O Compatriots, Nigeria's Call Obey!" by segun06: 4:52am On Apr 15, 2006
THis are the things I feel we should be talking about, instead of the Pastor's Degree(s).

Are you my brother, sister? This is where we must begin. Let us look at our National Anthem and Pledge. The words are very profitable for all as a focal point for us to base and build our National Identity. We are in a period of destiny in Nigeria and the world generally. I am speaking primarily to all Nigerians, our friends and well wishers all over the world. Short of repeating the words of our able and blessed President, Olusegun Obasanjo, I will focus only on my little part in what should be a very wholesomely National endeavour.
Many of us do not even know the National Anthem; those of us who do are oblivious of the importance of the words. Regardless, when we do know the aforementioned, we do not put the National Interest first in National issues. We are a very religious people in Nigeria as far as having and practicing a faith is concerned. However, although many reckon that religion and politics should not mix, Nation Building cannot be devoid of religion. Hence, we need to play politics (the world acclaimed modus operandi of nation building) in a way that puts the best interests of Nigeria first in all National Issues.
"Nigeria Calls" , when fire is about to engulf a house, all hands must be on deck. No mother will hear her baby crying and not run to his or her aid. What happens when the father cries? Will the son or daughter run to his aid? Well then, our fatherland is in turmoil. Many of us fold our arms and condemn all condemnables, when we can and do have the choice to lend a hand in one way or other. Everyone must do something.
We need to change our orientation individually and collectively. We have a tendency to be very selfish, negative and unpatriotic in our approach to national interests. Yet, we all have the choice to wake up to our civil duties and responsibilities. Everyone can play a part. We are scattered all over the world and those of us away from Nigeria lament non-stop about our bad governments and debase our nation. Yet, we all (perhaps a vast majority) want to go back home someday (dead or alive). We can continue to contribute to the negative image of Nigeria or choose to become good ambassadors in all we think, speak or do as Nigerians. I pray and urge that we all embrace the later. There are bad eggs in every family and nation. Often the good people keep quiet and allow the minority of bad eggs to have a field day, thereby the majority of others are misrepresented.
We have heard too much bad news about Nigeria from the world over, including from Nigeria and from Nigerians; to a point where the fear of returning home has gripped many of us abroad. I know that very urgent intervention is required to redress this situation. It is noteworthy that the Federal Government of Nigeria under the leadership of President Obasanjo is tackling several issues, including this negativity. The policy is excellent in my view and I must congratulate the President for the success of the Image Building Policy pursued rigorously.
Male, female, young, old, at home, abroad, friends, Nigeria needs you!
“Agbajo owo l’a fi nso’ya” (we beat our chests with all fingers together in unity). United we stand; divided, we fall. Prepare for change, then you will be ready for change. Be prepared in and out of season; then you will not be taken unawares. A great deal of negativity can be avoided and or better managed. Change is not as bad as we often think. However, we must be willing to change. Our attitudes are often the greatest barrier to change. This is what makes us unwilling to change ourselves and to embrace change positively. We shall overcome.

Pastor i think you are taking this a bit too far. Personally when i saw the title of this thread, I thought it was going to be about Nigeria.

Feel free to follow up with increased insults and or abuse. I am very used to that.

Looks like people have been insulting you for a very long time and now you've become a very defensive person. This thread isn't about you (or your degree), its about Nigeria. If this thread continues in the path its going, the primary reason for this thread will be lost. Lets stick to the primary purpose of this thread.

We should have a moment of silence for this thread too.

prophet:

Segun and Okada , respectively , I am who I am. I am not ashamed. Have I committed a crime or offended you with my post sharing my identity with you as a Prophet and duly having my MBA behind my name? What has that got to do with the post? This is one of the reasons you and others like you cause unnecessary friction. I thought the site owners wanted us to be free from such? Anyway, I welcome your comments on the substance of the article not personal insults and or abuse (this is especially for Okada). If you find the tag Prophet, MBA etc. personally offensive, that is your personal business. Please let us not bring that into sensible business in the name of Nigeria. What others may find a thing of testimony, pride and joy, you should never knock, especially if you also want measures of such evidence in your lives. This is my opinion. Thanks, with due respects. Prophet.
I don't see why my name is in your reply, most of the contents are directed towards Okada.

With everything going on in Nigeria right now, do you think we will ever live to see a better Nigeria? If yes, what do you think should be done? And whose responsibility is it to do it?

Ok, perhaps you can explain how Dafur refugees have been feeding, clothing, and healing themselves? Divine miracles?

Could you fill me in on this Dafur refugees you talk about, They don't really cover any African news here and when they do its most likely exagerrated.
