When I did my project research work in 2005,I had to do eye test for inmates of Nigeria prisons sapele road in benin city also known as white house and to my utter dismay and shock I found a 12years old boy in prison awaiting trial because his oga (a bus driver ) killed a pedestran and ran away. Infact our prison system needs a total overhaul. Many people are in jail for crimes or misdemeanour that community service should have been prescribed. Imagine a man charged with bulglary awaiting trial for 8 years,its so sad. Back to topic a thorough investigation has to be done because Nigerian prisons don't reform but make neophyte criminals hardened it could be related in similitude to a look out for a crime becomes the man to pull the trigger after a prison sentence Akshow: This should be properly investigated. Its an infringement of human right to be locked up without proper hearing talk more of it been children. Lag st govt has some questions to answer. |

When he would be seen later, he had become a lorry driver, even when he was not 18 years old, but very popular, though, because of his expertise on the steering. Sometime in July 1986, he started the war with the Police, and by August, the Police too began a counter attack. Two months later, the Police offensive in Benin City against the prevailing mafia –style armed robbery ran, on the night of October 1 to a sudden, explosive climax of gun fire and blood. At about 9pm and about a hundred meters away from a police road block along Ring Road in the heart of the ancient city, rapid gun shots obviously from superior weaponry, broke the eerie calmness of the night. Just like a textbook replay of any of the deadly efficient attacks of Italy Red Brigade, the notorious terrorist guerrilla group of the late 70s and like the Red Brigade’s victims, who were invariably the cream of the Italian society, the victims of the Benin shoot-out included Commissioner of Police. Yes, the Police Chief was shot! He paid dearly for the attack as his bullet- ridden private car, a new Peugeot 504 station wagon, wobbled to a halt, a bullet tore though the ridge of his nose. Even so, Akagbosu was two times lucky. Police sources said that the first volley of shot jolted him into a reflex action; he jerked his face sideways from its previous straight forward position to ascertain the direction of the attack. When Kingsley Eweka, a prince of Benin was about to be shot for armed robbery in mid 1986, he craned his neck on the stake to tell those asking If he had anything to say: “My friend and his boys will avenge my death!” A smile slipped out the cheeks of the questioners: no one knew his friend, and no one wanted to know. It was a matter for laughter, and since they could not laugh, they sneered. But soon, everyone knew Kingsley’s friend in Bendel State of Nigeria. Yes, Bendel State. There was once a state in Nigeria called Bendel. It was the old Benin and Delta provinces of Western region that was merged on 8 August, 1963 to become Midwestern State, and was changed to Bendel State on 17 March, 1976, That was its name until 27 August, 1991 when it was divided into two: one part named Edo, and the other now called Delta. But in 1986,, it was Bendel, and this was where Kingsley’s friend took his revenge. The friend was a young man called Lawerence Anini. He was born in 1960 to the family of Owuo quarters in Orogbo village, Orhionmwon area of the state. He was brought to Benin as a toddler where he attended Oza Primary School, and was a known truant while in the School. All the same, he completed the school and got admission to Igiedumu Secondary School. He was there for three years before he abandoned it in about 1976 and started learning how to repair motor vehicles. But he spent only three months in the mechanic workshop. What happened was that one day, he was caught in the act when he stole N7 belonging to one of his mates in the garage. When he was seen with the money, he said the money was given to him by his mother to buy drugs for her, but when David Isiokherhe, the master of the shop, threatened that “Juju” would be brought to get the money, he confessed that he indeed stole the money. Immediate search revealed that he had spent N2 out of the money, in less than an hour. He was summarily dismissed. 1 Like |

LIBEL: Presidency Begs Buhari.. The presidency has convinced former head of state General Muhammadu Buhari to settle out of court the libel suit he had initiated against the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Dr Reuben Abati. Abati had on page 51 of the April 22, 2011, edition of The Guardian newspaper, written an opinion article entitled “For the attention of General Buhari”. In it, he claimed that Buhari made an inciting statement which led to the post-election violence that rocked some parts of the north. The former presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), however, regarded the publication as defamatory, intended to lower his integrity and to bring him into public ridicule. Buhari consequently dragged Abati and The Guardian to court via suit no. ID/837/2011 and demanded N1billion damages from them. But in a copy of the Terms of Settlement exclusively obtained by LEADERSHIP SUNDAY and filed before a Lagos High Court in Ikeja, the parties have agreed to settle the matter out of court. In the terms of settlement dated December 2012 and filed before the administrative judge of Lagos State, Justice Opeyemi Oke, the claimant (Buhari), Mr. Tope Adebayo ( lawyer to Buhari), Abati and Mr. Kunle Sanyaolu (lawyer to The Guardian) signed the terms of settlement. But the lawyer to the first defendant (Abati), Dame Carol Ajie, declined to sign the document. The document quoted the claimant and defendants as having explored the option of amicable settlement of the suit and agreed that, by virtue of the execution of the terms of settlement, all issues relating to the suit should be determined. The parties further agreed that Abati and The Guardian should retract and apologise to Buhari in certain form and contents. The terms of settlement reads in part: “The claimant (Buhari) and defendants (Abati and The Guardian) have agreed that the defendants should publish a retraction and an apology to the claimant on the Opinion Page of the newspaper, to be printed in reverse line black (RLB) within seven days of entering the Consent Terms as the judgment of the court in two editions of The Guardian. “The claimant and defendants have agreed and resolved that the retraction and apology shall take the following form and contents: ‘Re: For the attention of General Buhari’- On April 22, 2011, The Guardian Newspaper published an article on Page 51 titled ‘For the attention of General Buhari’ where certain allegations were made against General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), GCFR, concerning the 2011 election and General Buhari’s alleged role in the violence emanating from the elections. “The publication was based on information which we believed to be reliable at that time. Since the publication, however, we now have reason to believe that certain parts of the story were not verified to be correct before the publication. “We assure General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), GCFR, of our highest esteem and regret any distress or embarrassment which the said publication may have caused him. “The claimant and defendants agree that on the execution of these Terms of Settlement, the defendants are discharged from all or any liabilities or obligations arising from the said publication.” Abati had stirred the hornet’s nest in the said column when he wrote that Buhari made an inciting statement after the 2011 presidential poll thus: “You should never leave polling centres until polls are counted and the winner declared and you should lynch anybody that tries to tinker with the votes .Read more! http:///3VYF71Iy |

On getting back inside the house, they beat her, raped her, then shot her in other to cover their dark secret. The boyfriend, then shot himself as well, in other to set an alibi for him self and build the “robbery story” which is currently been circulated today. Since Wunmi is no more to tell her story, he thought he would have easily gotten away with the murder, and no one will discover the true nature of what really happened. Once you do get back in a dialogue let him know of how important relationships are to you. Let him know that you aren’t in the dating game per se but really looking for a long term commitment and leave it at that. In order to get what you want out life you have to dramatize it a bit. And they even further enticed people with thousands of dollars that will be paid to the best video. Already there are lots of videos on Youtube showing young people, both boys and girls, dancing like gay men to the Oliver Twist song. Dr Solonso also pointed out that in the group’s video Don Jazzy is wearing what looks like chequered trousers. “This alternating pattern of white and black squares is the Illuminati’s mind control method,” he said. Indeed, according to the expert, the song’s catchy tune and highly danceable sound is down to Don Jazzy’s pants. Dr Solonso also pointed out that at some point in the video the unidentified man walks across the camera, holding a red bag and what looks like an enchanted horn. Finally, the expert drew attention to the sound speakers and other electronic equipment arranged to spell the word ILLUMINATI behind the artistes as they dance like gay men. Onlytruth: So you are this easy to confuse/deceive? So if a Nnewi guy speaks Oron, Yoruba or Ijaw or even Kanuri or whatever language of the police officer (mind you they may have been to that station before the attack) it suddenly means they are foreigners? I'm not rulling out the possibility of non-Anambrarians doing this. The only real give away, IMHO, is their level of calm and confidence. No foreigner operates with such calm and swagger in the heart of Igboland unless given pass by the locals. They have already attacked THREE times within the same area in under 2 days. I'm not blaming anyone, but the police should search themselves. Why are they singled out for repeat attacks? This is unprecedented in the East. |
