Edo 2020: Court Restrains Self From Further Hearing Of Suit Challenging Direct Primaries

The Federal High Court sitting in Benin has restrained itself from further hearing of the suit challenging the decision of the APC NWC to hold direct primaries to pick its candidate for the Edo State Governoship election.

Recall that the court on Monday, June 8th adjourned hearing on the suit to today, 11th June.

The suit was instituted by a group loyal to the governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki.

The suit sought to stop the primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scheduled for June 22nd as Obaseki insisted on the party having indirect primaries.

The Court further ordered that all court processes be transferred to the Court of appeal for hearing due to the application for stay of proceeding filed by the APC.

According to the calendar of congresses/primaries published by INEC, the APC will hold direct primaries to pick its candidate for the election as submitted by the National Working Committee of the party.

There has been an ongoing battle between the Adams Oshiomhole-led APC NWC and Obaseki.

Obaseki had filed the suit seeking to stop the party from holding direct primaries. The APC governorship candidacy is being hotly contested for by Osagie Ize-Iyamu and incumbent, Godwin Obaseki.

hotplate:
This is the result of the yet-to-be conducted Edo APC primary election which is scheduled to hold on the 22nd of June... Obaseki and Oshiomhole has been at logged head on the mode of primaries to adopt.
While Obaseki is opposed to the direct mode of primaries citing the ravaging corona virus, as well as some planned manipulation of the primaries as his reasons, the national chairman of the party Adams Oshiomhole has said that the Indirect mode dose not reflect true democracy.
In the result, the preferred candidate of the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, who the proscribed Edo Peoples Movement (EPM) picked as their consensus candidate few weeks ago, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, polled 101,533 votes, to allegedly pick the APC ticket. Former Chairman of Oredo Local Government Area, Osaro Obazee, came second with 81,173, while the incumbent governor scored 79,861.

Whoever did this didn't try to be clever at all whether Oshiomole or Jack Obiyan. APC Is fielding six candidates but the purported result has five candidates so it needs to be edited . The candidates are Godwin Obaseki, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Dr. Pius Odubu, Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi, Hon. Osaro Obazee and Hon. Matthew Aigbuhuenze Iduoriyekemwen.

Which five junction are you talking about, fear God. Oshiomole did substandard projects and you say you are non partisan, well time will tell
Unigrad:

From what I saw with my eyes and witnessed
TV road was done and completed by Obaseki.
5 junction Oshiomole did was so bad immediately he left government, Governor Obaseki later fix it and is without potholes now.
The road in front of police station in Ring road was worked on again by Governor Obaseki because the one Oshiomole did gone bad with potholes.
I drove through lucky way some weeks ago, the road is now perfectly motorable compare to Oshiomole time when the road was terribly bad.
Ekehuan road to Ekehuan barack is seriously under construction.
Emokpae primary school, some schools in ugbowo was renovated by Governor Obaseki.
I passed through central park a day ago, work is seriously ongoing there.
No worker in the state have been owed salary or salaries.
Obaseki removed multiple taxing in form of ticketing.
Ogba Stadium has a new and standard look now
I can't not lie because of politics because I'm non partisan, almost all the works Oshiomole did were substandard in quality, almost all of them is nowhere to be found.
You can't expect 100% from humans, though have not benefitted from Obaseki government directly but indirectly, he tried in his administration in Edo State. God forbid he doesn't get the ticket, I will use the election day to sleep because I'm not seeing any other candidate both in APC and PDP that can surpass Obaseki's achievement.
Take this to heart
Tony Kabaka celebrated he worth #1B few years ago, where did he got the money from? What was his worth before Oshiomole?
If you are from Benin City in Edo State, you will know what I'm talking about.
Oshiomole is fighting for his relevance and political children like Kabaka, henry idiagbon, Samson Osagie etc. By the grace of God, they will all fail.
Samson Osagie and Tony Kabaka have said it severally that they are fighting Obaseki because he refused to recognize politicians in the state. God forbid I support the status quo that had robbed the state of necessary development.
Lastly, go check siluko road that Oshiomole did, you will think that road is 30years.
Road the roads Oshiomole was 4years lifespan with billions of Naira. Where is the #30B he borrowed from world bank for water storm project? Where did he got his money to build his mansion in Iyamho?
These are the few questions we need to ask.
Thank you.

He escaped death narrowly.

Why must you bit the fingers that fed you?
Why did this man hates Oshiomole so much?
This is a lesson in helping someone under a curse. They will return back to hunt you.

Do you expect him to fold hands and let them remove food from his mouth.

I don't like seeing men crying like babies, politics is game of the smart and mature men,
And those blaming oshiomole for doing what he doing are funny, if Obaseki was in oshiomole shoe he will do the same thing,. seeing him demolish opponent house, arresting opponent too, it means both are using power at their disposal to outshine each other.
Like oshiomole, like Obaseki and non of them is a saint.

Suleiman Wambai, North-Central National Vice-President (VP) of All Progressives Congress (APC), says direct primary election in Edo is the only way to go to avoid a repeat of the Zamfara experience.

The APC chieftain stated this while briefing newsmen on Monday in Lafia.

According the him, there are three ways candidates of the party can emerge in any state.

“A candidate can emerge either through consensus, direct or indirect primaries, depending on what the party decides in any given state.

“The leadership of the party at the state level has been empowered by the APC constitution, to decide which mode of primaries to adopt in their state,” the vice-president said.

Wambai, however, stated that the national headquarters of the party decided a direct primaries for the upcoming election in Edo because there were factions in the state.

“If you allow any of the factions to select the governorship candidate for the party in the state, it can be quashed by the court, just like it happened in Zamfara during the 2019 elections.

“So, to avoid the Zamfara experience, the party at the national level decided that direct primaries is the only way out,” Wambai stated.

EDO2020: Four Reasons Why Direct Primary is Highly Recommended for APC Gubernatorial Election
By Frank Guobadia
1. With all that is at stake in this election, every registered member of APC Party should be accorded the opportunity to choose the aspirant who deserves to be the party’s flag bearer in the general governorship election, come 22nd June, 2020.
2. Covid-19 cases have not been recorded in several local government areas of the State. Bringing some 3,500 delegates from the 18 local government areas across the State to camp in Benin City for over 24 hours until they are able to cast their votes and go back to their respective destinations will only catalyze the spread of Covid-19 all over Edo State. If two already infected delegates came to Benin and mingle with other delegates, at least some 100 other delegates would have been infected with the deadly virus before the exercise is over. It is better for party members to vote in a direct primary in their respective Ward in order to contain the spread of the virus.
3. His Excellency, Godwin Obaseki said he deserves a 2nd tenure. He could as well be right! But it is only fair if majority of APC members of this State can agree with his assertion through their votes in direct primary election.
4. The use of delegates for indirect primary is always contaminated and corrupt. It is easier to bribe delegates with money to vote certain way but not so when everyone gets to vote.
These are what I think justify why APC is better off with direct primary in this exercise.
Since direct primary has already been adopted for the election, all these talks about Direct or Indirect Primary are purely academic and nothing changes from what has been decided and approved by the National.
Frank Guobadia — APC, Ovia NE

The government fell short of expectations, I guess he doesn't want to be firm cos of upcoming elections. The way this northerners have taken over Benin causing mayhem all over the nooks and crannies of benin happened due to the docile nature of Obaseki,we have never had it this bad. Kidnapping is a daily norm, the other time he was using helicopter to do demo up and down but now when we need it to comb the bushes he is inaugurating community policing when the security outfit he established wabaizigan( a tool to oppress percieved enemies failed) I can go on and on. Truth is both oshiomole and obaseki are fighting a game of superiority ( both want to be godfathers) they don't have the genuine interest of the Edo's at heart

Get your facts right, they are not related from Adam. The killer is the personal bikeman of the deceased

GreatChizzy:

Did you even read the story before quoting me?

I cannot "caution" my mother over a "girlfriend" and there is no such a thing as my mother "stepping out of the line" in dealing with my girlfriend. I am African!!! And raised well by both Parents, terms as "caution" cannot be used by me when addressing my Parents.
May God never give me a Child that would "caution" his mother because of a "girl friend".
God bless you

[quote author=oz4real83 post=89639172] check the name I wrote. I am talking about the late father of their current leader. The current leader is Kim Jong-in.
The founder, which is the present leader's grandfather is Kim ill-sung.

Sorry my mistake
