This guy is very funny, the 40k/50k he is talking about, are they all gathering at the same place?...I think they are spread across different places within the state while maintaining social distancing, which to me is even better than indirect method in which all the delegates will be at the same place... also is it not the same mode inec will use for the election itself,or will he stop inec from conducting the election because of covid-19?.....he should look for another excuse abeg,na fear dey catch am 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Meaning the general election will also be indirect? While not trying to make case for godfatherism but the lesson here is that, don't destroy the ladder that lift you up, you may need it to come down. Simple wisdom would have enable this man to manage whatever was and is the difference between Oshiomole and himself. Fashola did it with Tinubu and was able to finish his second term, they also try stopping him from being appointed as a minister but he also managed the situation. I am against Obaseki's approach, beside God Oshiomole was reason he is governor today. He should have a reason to be grateful and not plotting national emberrashment for his benefactor. My long story is; Obaseki is not a wise person. Those hailing him today will stone him once he is out of power. This is Nigeria! 6 Likes |

Vague excuses, direct primaries are held at the various ward levels where the social distancing order can be enforced don't make it sound like the 400,000 - 500,000 party members would be packed in a spot, moreso thousand of delegates would be packed in the same spot to vote if the indirect method is adopted, I guess Obaseki would advise inec to adopt an indirect voting for the general elections too 4 Likes |

Re: Obaseki: Why I Am Opposed To Direct Primary by DeRay98(m): 9:30am On May 25, 2020 |
stickle: Politics should be about producing the best candidate to lead the people, to deliver progress but the average Nigerian claps for and hail the game players that's the most crafty not mindful of the leadership they produce. This is the very reason the entire black race leaders and Nigeria is backward. Oshiomhole as a successful labour leader had no political structure in Edo state. Disgruntled ex pdp members who built political structure in Edo state help by supporting him with their influence because he had a popular name at the national level. But today, he has hijack that structure to fight against the same people and now trying scheme round and remove a man that brough a fresh ideas into Edo far from what an politician can thinkabout and you're hailing Oshiomhole to remove Obaseki. Oshiomhole has done his term, he should let Obaseki continue his term. Edo wants an end to the "share the money" politics and move forward but Oshiomhole is promoting the old idea. 1 Like 1 Share |

Stephenomozzy:come to benin during this lock down period I am surprised that we don't have a major outbreak of corona virus in Benin as to be candid there was inadequate orientation and till date majority of indigenes don't believe corona exist. The government fell short of expectations, I guess he doesn't want to be firm cos of upcoming elections. The markets were moved to designated schools alas with the daily crowds the coro would have gone far. Market women are even been screened not tested so that markets can open 1 Like |

linearity: If he signs such executive order banning gathering of more than 50 people,it then means the primary will not be held because even the indirect primary will still gather delegate in thousands in one place.. With such executive order, the direct primary would still be the way to go.. 1 Like |

Re: Obaseki: Why I Am Opposed To Direct Primary by DTaj: 9:42am On May 25, 2020 |
The daft, ungrateful Obaseki was in Lagos (as CEO of Afrinvest) when this same Oshiomhole invited him into government and made him DG of the Edo State Economic Management Team; and despite the huge resistance of his longstanding political friends and associates (and some of them abandoned Oshiomhole because of Obaseki), he did EVERYTHING to have Obaseki elected as Governor! I have a friend in Edo State public service hierarchy who told me that Obaseki was so powerful under Oshiomhole that he practically sidestepped the Deputy Governor, Pius Odubu. Yet, this same Obaseki has insulted Oshiomhole to the heavens and back. He has also allowed nonentities like Osagie and other fools to continue to insult Oshiomhole every day. Some people say Oshiomhole should forgive Obaseki. How? The father (Oshiomhole) had long kept quiet, yet, the son (Obaseki) mounts the podium personally and through his appointees and daft minions (such as Oyegun) to insult the father EVERYDAY! Yet, you want forgiveness! Now, he has gone, with his tails by his legs, to beg Tinubu to help him in his already failed plot. I dey laugh! I do not care whatever caused the rift between those two; however, I dislike UNGRATEFUL PEOPLE! Obaseki should start packing his bags, as he returns to Lagos soon. He should ask Ambode for the handout on ‘political treachery and ingratitude’. And talking about Covid-19 and APC primaries; Obaseki is just being clever by half! A direct primary will NOT involve putting 400,000 people in one location. That was a thoughtless lie! Direct primaries are done at Local Government headquarters of political parties. The Edo direct primaries can be successfully done through social distancing and wearing of face mask at each LG secretariat of APC. Now, to even stretch Obaseki’s dumb reason further, would he ask INEC to conduct indirect election in September? Won’t Edo people still gather in their polling booths to vote amidst Covid-19 Obaseki, you are already gone. Start planning your retirement back to Lagos, Ikoyi precisely! 4 Likes 1 Share |

Biofil84:EDO2020: Four Reasons Why Direct Primary is Highly Recommended for APC Gubernatorial Election By Frank Guobadia 1. With all that is at stake in this election, every registered member of APC Party should be accorded the opportunity to choose the aspirant who deserves to be the party’s flag bearer in the general governorship election, come 22nd June, 2020. 2. Covid-19 cases have not been recorded in several local government areas of the State. Bringing some 3,500 delegates from the 18 local government areas across the State to camp in Benin City for over 24 hours until they are able to cast their votes and go back to their respective destinations will only catalyze the spread of Covid-19 all over Edo State. If two already infected delegates came to Benin and mingle with other delegates, at least some 100 other delegates would have been infected with the deadly virus before the exercise is over. It is better for party members to vote in a direct primary in their respective Ward in order to contain the spread of the virus. 3. His Excellency, Godwin Obaseki said he deserves a 2nd tenure. He could as well be right! But it is only fair if majority of APC members of this State can agree with his assertion through their votes in direct primary election. 4. The use of delegates for indirect primary is always contaminated and corrupt. It is easier to bribe delegates with money to vote certain way but not so when everyone gets to vote. These are what I think justify why APC is better off with direct primary in this exercise. Since direct primary has already been adopted for the election, all these talks about Direct or Indirect Primary are purely academic and nothing changes from what has been decided and approved by the National. FortuneDeGreat: His reason can be summed as half truth, because the main election can also spread the virus and also gathering delegates from all LGA in one place can also spread the virus. I don't have any political affiliation, but I think Obaseki is just doing what a typical political in his shoes will do. Gud for him. 1 Like |
