As majority of is are aware, 5th October every year has been set aside by UNESCO (United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization) an agency of the United Nations Organization to honour teachers. It is widely regarded as World Teachers' Day.

Over the years, the teaching profession has come to be identified as one of the lowest profession, most especially in Nigeria. Infact, once you introduce yourself as a teacher, people begin to pity you. No thanks to societal perception. This is not to discountenance the fact that some teachers are well paid in the so called top private schools, while the government is also making frantic efforts at improving the welfare of its teachers.

A teacher is someone who is trained and certified to teach. That being said, real teachers are born. Sincere apologies to those who studied education. Teaching is more of an innate activity irrespective of what popular opinion says.

As a cross curricular teacher, I make bold to say that it is indeed a noble profession.

This year's theme for the celebration of teachers is tagged: THE TEACHER WE NEED FOR THE EDUCATION WE WANT.
