In recent times, I have come to discover that there is a decrease in the number of students that wants to study financial accounting.

As a professional teacher in that field that boasts over 15 years of teaching the subject, here are some of the reasons.

1. Business studies which is a foundational subject for financial accounting is not properly taught at the junior secondary level. Once they get to cash book, ledger, journal and the rest that demands little calculation, even the teachers get lost

2. Financial accounting teachers that truly know the subject and how to simplify concepts and also impart it to students are very few. In most cases,the teachers have a faint knowledge about the subject matter

3. Some teachers only teach the theoretical aspect of financial accounting. I once saw the accounting note of a child, no single calculation. It looks like a literature note. The child said the teacher will only define, list, explain and move to the next topic.

Feel free to add yours. Please note, this is not to undermine the effort of other teachers, but for the sake of the future,let's protect and preserve the Accounting profession by stimulating interest in the learners
