Porto communications director Francisco J. Marques has accused the Portuguese champions Benfica of resorting to sorcery to win the past two seasons. Marques told local TV channel Porto that he saw emails that Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira and Dr. Armando Nhaga, the national Police Commissioner of Guinea-Bissau, exchanged earlier this year regarding agreements for witchcraft services. Marques told reporters: "In 2015-16, Benfica spent €75,000 (£65,945) to fix the Championship [using sorcery]." The Porto communications chief claimed that Nhaga warned Benfica that their attempts to win a fourth straight league title could be in jeopardy due to "sabotage" if the club did not increase their payments for using their services with respect to 2015-16 campaign. Vieira was reportedly not aware of the deal that was in place between a former ex-board member of the club, Rui Gomes da Silva, and Nhaga for that season. There was an agreement that also included the possibility of renewal. However, Gomes da Silva did not maintain his place on the board. Nevertheless, he alleged that Vieira was willing to consider an agreement. The Porto chief claimed he saw an email that Nhaga sent to Vieira which said: "Regarding the 2016-17 campaign, which starts on Aug. 7 with the [Portuguese] Supercup, it could be a close fight for the [league] title, in which Benfica can make history. "This entails the urgent need to reach a mutual agreement to provide services for the parties." Nhaga then reportedly sent an itemised list of fees for his services for the season -- including €100,000 (£88,000) to win the league title and a fee of €30,000 (£26,398) for every Champions League knockout game. However, Benfica lost 4-0 at Borussia Dortmund on March 8 to be eliminated from the Champions League round of 16. Marques alleged that after the loss, Vieira sent an e-mail to Nhaga asking "what happened?" Nhaga replied that he was not "in Guinea at the time and that whoever was dealing with it [alleged sorcery] did not do it at the right time," but reportedly said: "However, now we are going to concentrate on what is essential, which is the league title and the Portuguese Cup. I thank you for your understanding and this will not happen again." Marques said he was disgusted by the revelations. "We are talking about witchcraft," he said. "Hundreds of thousands of euros were spent on that. "I don't know what to make of this. "This calls into question the coach, the players, but also [club executives] Paulo Goncalves and Pedro Guerra. "There are people that in order to win, anything goes." Benfica won a record fourth straight Portuguese league title in May with one game to spare, with Porto finishing runners-up, six points adrift. The Lisbon-based club also lifted the Portuguese Cup after beating Vitoria Guimaraes 2-1. http://kwese.espn.com/football/portuguese-liga/story/3150443/benfica-used-sorcery-to-win-past-two-seasons-porto-communications-director |

I dream of a Nigeria where the use of words like Afonja, Igbos, will be a thing of the past. Where Chukwuemeka will heartily call Adamu his beloved brother, where Olabisi will honestly call Ifeoma her true friend and sister. Where we have a president called Adekunle Ifeanyi Ciroma. Where we only see Nigerians and not a hausa or yoruba or an igbo man. God bless Nigeria God bless us all |

The Nigerian Army may have begun an internal search for soldiers and officers suspected to be engaging in political meetings, a top military source has told SUNDAY PUNCH. The source said that some arrests may have been made, but that the information was being kept as top secret so as not to add to public tension. Some other sources who spoke with our correspondent on Saturday also noted that the establishment of an army unit in Daura, Katsina State, on Friday, named Muhammadu Buhari Forward Operation Base, by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, was an effort to fortify the president’s hometown and a public pledge of loyalty. On Tuesday, Buratai, in a tense language, had warned officers and soldiers to steer clear of politics, as information had reached him that some officers were involved in political meetings for “undisclosed reasons.” The army chief had advised officers and soldiers interested in politicking to resign from the service, as any officer caught would be severely penalised. Three days after the alert (Friday), Buratai went to Daura, where he inaugurated the army unit, and paid a courtesy call on the Emir of Daura, Dr Faruk Umar. The details of the meeting have yet to be known. The army chief, at the ceremony, had said the establishment of the unit was to enhance security in parts of 1 Division, which Daura town fell under. Also, the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Sani Usman, said, “The establishment of the new unit was part of the implementation of the Nigerian Army approved Order of Battle 2016 (ORBAT 2016) by the Army council. “Prior to that, the COAS was also at the Palace of his Royal Highness, Alhaji Faruk Umar, the Emir of Daura, for a courtesy call.” The top army source said the army knew quite well the weight of its statement on politicking soldiers in the country, and had already followed up with high intelligence-driven search, adding that the public groups and civil societies could not be more rigorous than the army. Other sources told our correspondent that some of the suspected political meetings were held under the guise of some of the recently redeployed 147 soldiers and officers, allegedly trying to familiarise with their new hosts. When contacted on the measures the army was taking on the alert of soldiers hobnobbing with politicians, the army spokesman, Usman, said the army was a professional service, and would not hesitate to brief the public if it considered the information as necessary. He said, “The army is a disciplined and professional service. We relate well with the Nigerian public. When there is need to disclose information, we will.” http://punchng.com/coup-scare-army-clamps-down-on-suspected-soldiers/ |

Germany has deported to Nigeria, an alleged Islamic extremist, an ISIS suspect, deemed dangerous by authorities. He is a German citizen, not Nigerian. The German news agency, dpa, reports that the 22-year-old man who was born in Germany and who hadn’t committed a crime, arrived in Lagos Thursday. The unidentified man was one of the two individuals detained in February in Goettingen during an investigation of suspected attack plans. His partner is a 27-year-old Algerian. Both of them lived with their parents in Göttingen. When the two men were picked up, investigators found two weapons, at least one of them a firearm, that had been altered to fire live ammunition. Also found on them were ammunition, flags of the Islamic State group and a machete. The man deported to Nigeria is banned from entering Germany for life. Following attacks by Islamic extremists last year, German authorities vowed to step up deportations of foreigners deemed to be threats. The two men, according to www.dw.com were arrested after having been under surveillance for some time. After their arrest, the German interior ministry requested their expulsion after classifying them as a threat to national security. Their deportation has no precedence in German history. “We are sending a clear warning to all fanatics nationwide that we will not give them a centimeter of space to carry out their despicable plans,” said Lower Saxony’s Interior Minister Boris Pistorius, following the court ruling authorising the deportation “They will face the full force of the law regardless of whether they were born here or not,” he added. In the case of the Algerian, the court made his deportation conditional on assurances from the Algerian government that he would not be tortured or subjected to any inhuman treatment. http://www.dw.com/en/top-stories/s-9097 |

A 65-year-old winemaker from Havana, Cuba, has come up with an ingenious use for latex condoms. As part of the process of producing his brand of wine, he places condoms over large jars of grape and fruit juice so that he can know exactly when the fermentation process is completed. Orestes Estevez has been making wine for a long time, but he only opened his winery, “El Canal”, in 2000, when the Communist regime made private enterprises legal. He uses Cuban grapes with all kinds of tropical fruits and vegetables thrown in for added flavoring to make a cheap yet delicious alternative to imported wines. With the average monthly income in Cuba standing at around $25, few people can afford to pay half that much for a bottle of foreign wine, so at 10 times less that amount per bottle, the 65-year-olds’ wine is a popular alternative. Estevez and his family tend to about 300 large jugs of wine at all times, and they can be seen lined up on shelves or on the floor all around their house. The condoms are a cheap alternative to the valves and sensors used by most wineries to release gases and monitor the fermentation process, according to odditycentral.com. The condoms slowly inflate as the grape juice and fruits start to ferment and produce gases. When they become firm and full of gas, Orestes punches a few small holes with a needle to allow the slow release of gas, and when the condom stops inflating and falls, he knows that the wine is ready for bottling. http://www.odditycentral.com/

Former President Goodluck Jonathan, a former Attorney-General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke (SAN), as well as some members of the National Assembly may have received about $400m from the $1.3bn paid by oil giants Shell and Eni, into a Federal Government escrow account, a new report suggests. A former Russian Ambassador and Intelligence Officer, Ednan Agaev, was quoted as saying this while speaking with officials of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the United States as well as Italian prosecutors, according to a report by an American news website, Buzzfeed. Detectives in the US, the Netherlands and Italy are jointly investigating the $1.3bn Malabu scam which Nigerian officials have described as the biggest single scam ever perpetrated against the Nigerian people. Agaev’s testimony has since been tendered in an Italian court as evidence where Adoke and a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Dan Etete, are being charged. Etete is also said to be the owner of Malabu Oil and Gas Limited. According to the court documents, Agaev, who worked as a middleman between the oil companies and Etete during the Malabu deal, told the FBI and Italian prosecutors that Etete had told him he needed to pay $400m in bribes to senior Nigerian officials and parliamentarians. The report states in part, “Agaev was asked about payment of his commission. Agaev stated that he went to Etete and told him to pay him $65,000,000. Agaev stated that Etete said, ‘I can’t pay you, I have to pay Adoke [Mohammed Bello Adoke, then Nigeria’s attorney general] $400m and all the other people in the Senate and the National assembly.’ Agaev stated that he would think President Goodluck Jonathan got at least $200m of this money.” In a follow-up interview with Italian authorities, Agaev repeated his allegations. “I said that if it’s true, that he paid, he had to pay $400m, I assume that at least $200m went to Goodluck,” he said. “I heard from Chief (Etete), he claims that he had to pay $400m, so, if this is true, if he paid $ 400 million, then most probably the President, as the biggest boss, took at least the half of it.” Jonathan, Etete, Adoke and all indicted oil firms have, however, denied all the allegations levelled against them. When one of our correspondents contacted the former President’s spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze, on Sunday, he said, “I refer to your enquiry over what you described as a new report accusing former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan of receiving millions of dollars as a kickback to approve the sale of OPL 245 oil field. “To me there is nothing new in this recycled fallacy. I am aware that following some speculative news reports earlier in the year, on this same conjecture and fabricated claims, and the public interest they generated, ex-President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan’s Office offered a clarification in a statement issued in January, 2017.” Jonathan, had in the January statement, described the allegation as a false narrative “We make bold to point out that the former President never sent Abubakar Aliyu or anybody else, as the innuendoes in the false report suggest, to ENI, the IOCs or any indigenous operator to seek favour or collect any gratification on his behalf,” he had said. The Malabu Oil scandal involves the $1.3bn paid by oil giants, Shell and Eni, to Federal Government accounts in 2011 for OPL 245 which is said to hold reserves of about 9.23 billion barrels of oil. The OPL 245 was said to have been bought by Etete under questionable circumstances in 1998 when he was the oil minister. Etete was said to have bought it for a fraction of its actual value. However, it was revoked by the President Olusegun Obasanjo administration. During the administration of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan in 2011, the then AGF, Adoke, brokered a deal for the sale of the OPL 245, acting as a middleman between Shell and Eni on the one hand, and Etete’s company, Malabu, on the other hand. Shell and Eni were said to have paid about $1.3bn for the OPL 245 which was paid into two escrow accounts owned by the Federal Government. However, Adoke was said to have transferred over $800m to Etete who in turn transferred over $500m to Aliyu, Jonathan’s alleged front. http://punchng.com/1-3bn-malabu-scam-jonathan-may-have-received-200m-says-report/ |

Apostle Johnson Suleiman, the founder of the Auchi-based Omega Fire Ministries, has been accused of dumping his pregnant lover, whom he promised marriage, and is using the police to silence her. The lover, Miss Stephanie Otobo, is a musician based in Ontario, Canada, who goes by the stage name of Kimora. Miss Otobo’s attorneys, Festus Keyamo Chambers, in a letter to the Inspector-General of Police, said she was arrested on March 3 at a United Bank of Africa branch by heavily armed policemen from Federal Criminal Investigations Department (FCID), Alagbon, at the Anthony Village area of Lagos. She has since been in detention, where she has been denied food and visitation by her lawyers. Apostle Suleiman and Miss Otobo, according to her lawyers, met in September 2016, when she visited Nigeria from her base in Canada. They began a relationship, with Apostle Suleiman telling her that he had divorced his wife and wanted more male children. The affair grew stronger. Apostle Suleiman made a marriage proposal to Miss Otobo, which she accepted. This was followed by a formal introduction of Apostle Suleiman to her family. On the occasion, the preacher took along drinks and gifts and informed Miss Otobo’s family in Delta state of his desire to marry their daughter. With the affair gaining in intensity, Miss Otobo abandoned her blossoming musical career in Canada to move over to Nigeria to the delight of Apostle Suleiman, who promised to buy her a house and provide her the standard of living to which she was used in Canada. So strong was the relationship that Apostle Suleiman made a habit of licking Miss Otobo’s body from her toes to her private part any time they wanted to make love. Miss Otobo also became a member of the Apostle Suleiman’s church, following him around the world, selecting sermon topics for him and choosing songs for his church services. Apostle Suleiman also sent Miss Otobo money on a regular basis. The pastor’s desire to have more male children, according to Miss Otobo’s lawyers, made him demand that his lover should get pregnant. She subsequently got pregnant. But in September 2016, Miss Otobo visited Nigeria and told the preacher that she was pregnant in a hotel she was lodged in Ikeja, Lagos. The news of the pregnancy angered Apostle Suleiman, who apparently was afraid of the scandal such could bring. He wanted her to have an abortion and proceeded to give her a concoction, which made Miss Otobo bleed profusely and subsequently abandoned her, calling off the marriage proposal. Miss Otobo later went to Warri, where he met another pastor and told him his story. The pastor recorded her story and started using it to extort money from Apostle Suleiman. After the disagreement over the pregnancy, Miss Otobo returned to Canada. But Apostle Suleiman got in touch with her and apologized for abandoning her. He subsequently started to persuade her to return to Nigeria. Last week, Miss Otobo returned to Nigeria. Apostle Suleiman, working on a scheme to silence her, paid money into her account and then got the account frozen. It was while Miss Otobo was trying to make a withdrawal from her account, having tried unsuccessfully to use an Automated Teller Machine, that she was arrested on the orders of Apostle Suleiman. According to Miss Otobo, Apostle Suleiman is a spectacularly dissolute man. He once requested her, she said, to bring her friends along for group sex, a request turned down given that there was a plan to get married. Miss Otobo, through her lawyers, warned Apostle Suleiman that she has their naked pictures together, raunchy text messages, bank statements, and other implicating items. They lawyers disclosed that Miss Otobo used to send nude pictures to Apostle Suleiman every Sunday, just before he went on the pulpit. Despite these, Suleiman called off the marriage proposal. However, Miss Otobo is not willing to take it lying down. She is demanding to be paid the sum of N500million as damages for not honoring the promise to marry her. Miss Otobo also wants Apostle Suleiman to stop harassing her and threatening her life. Her lawyers have given the preacher a seven-day ultimatum to meet the demands or get reported to law enforcement agencies for the threat to her life and face trial for breaching the promise to marry her. http://saharareporters.com/2017/03/05/controversial-apostle-suleiman-dumps-pregnant-canadian-lover-gets-her-detained-lagos Saharareporters hmmm ![]() If you ask me I'd rather give the Man of God the benefit of the doubt and say this smells like falsehood ![]()

The former Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence Dr. Sunday Mbang, has said former President Olusegun Obasanjo is the best president Nigeria has ever had, given the enduring institutions he established and his programmes while in office. He said this on Sunday while preaching at the former President’s 80th birthday thanksgiving service held at the Chapel of Christ The Glorious King, located inside the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library complex. He spoke on the theme, ‘Quality of gratitude to God.’ The cleric, who said he had no apologies for his opinion, said no other administration had added to the institutions established by Obasanjo since he left government. He mentioned such institutions to include the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control. He also noted that if the successive governments had adopted Obasanjo administration’s agricultural programme, Operation Feed the Nation, when he was the military Head of State, the country would not have been spending its hard-earned funds to import food. He said, “This is a man I have known for a very long time. I fell in love with him when I discovered that he held morning devotion every morning in Aso Rock when he became the civilian President. “The morning devotion was attended by his family members and other people. That was why he succeeded in government. God never allowed them to impeach him. “Obasanjo is the best President Nigeria has ever had. I have no apology to anybody about it. He also built a chapel inside Aso Rock within three months after getting there.” The cleric berated government officials, especially the governors, who surrounded themselves with gun-wielding policemen, arguing that this prevented people with useful information for their administration’s success from reaching them. He called on politicians and public office-holders in the country to desist from stashing money in foreign banks, but should embark on projects that could help develop their immediate communities, as Obasanjo had done with the establishment of the presidential library. He also flayed politicians who defected from one political party to the other, describing them as inconsistent and lacking principle, asking the congregation to say ‘shame on you’ to them. Obasanjo, in his remarks, thanked all his well- wishers who came from far and near to attend his week-long birthday celebration organised by an arm of OOPL, the Centre for Human Security. He prayed for longevity for all of them. The International General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, later prayed for Obasanjo, his children and grandchildren. Meanwhile, a human rights advocacy group, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, has called on the acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, to initiate the passage of a law that would ensure transparency in the source of funding for any project embarked upon by any sitting President. The group said since former President Obasanjo built the library with the intention of promoting greater openness into his work and achievements while in government, it would have better served public interest if Obasanjo had disclosed the source of the funding for the project. |
