Nigeria is in a very sorry state right now...I hope the meeting is devoid of the scheming and very selfish agendas. Naira is hopelessly drowning every day since last month...very unprecedented. Are we now severely bereft of economist in Nigeria? We need honest leaders urgently. Or part of the economic strategy is to starve the masses to death ??A roman emperor once brought peace to an island by killing all the inhabitants.. Is that the approach this government is covertly embarking on?? |
Please salvage our economy |

This week, as a christian, determine to show some love and kindness. Never go along with hatred blindness. Spread some cheers, there are sad and lonely people everywhere. Be a friend, show some love. Offer help, bring some hope to the fainting and discouraged on life's road. Be a light. Meet a need. Speak a word, loving word, that will bring the wandering to walk the narrow and focused road. Sing a little bit when the days are dreary. Wear a happy face. Give some help to a friend who's weary. That's the way to make the world a happy place.

2015 'Man of the Year' conferred on Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr. Who would have been you preference? Nigeria’s society magazine, City People, has conferred the 2015 ‘Man of the Year’ award on African entrepreneur, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr., for his humanitarian activities and business prowess. The award, which was presented by the magazine at the Mike Adenuga Towers, was received on behalf of Adenuga by Globacom’s Group Executive Director, Mrs. Bella Disu. According to City People, Adenuga was considered for the award ahead of other eminent Nigerians such as the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega; and the immediate-past Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola (SAN). The magazine, in a statement issued on Monday, further noted that the award was given to acknowledge Adenuga’s “silent philanthropic gestures across Nigeria and his leadership role in the business sector in Africa.” City People, in Adenuga’s citation for the award, acknowledged that Adenuga had remained steadfast in giving to various charitable causes over the years, describing him as a “self-effacing philanthropist.”He called upon the authorities to prevail on members of the party to allow peace to reign. http://www.punchng.com/mike-adenuga/

Pope Francis told gossip-loving priests and nuns to bite their tongues on Monday, and warned those breaking their vow of obedience to fall into line sharpish. “If you get an urge to say something against a brother or a sister, to drop a gossip bomb, bite your tongue! Hard!” the pontiff said in an improvised speech to members of the clergy marking the end of the Year of Consecrated Life. The Argentine warned against those abusing their religious vows of chastity, poverty and obedience, describing “anarchy” as the “daughter of the devil”. And he bemoaned a drop in the number of people signing up for a religious life, but warned against taking just anyone. “Why is the womb of consecrated live becoming so sterile?” he asked. “Some congregations experiment with ‘artificial insemination’. What do they do? They welcome… ‘Yes come, come, come’. And then there are problems,” he said. “No. We must be serious about who we take. We must clearly distinguish if it is a real vocation, and help it to grow.” The Roman Catholic Church is still smarting from the clerical sex abuse scandal, which hurt the institution globally and saw many believers, particularly in the West, turn their back on the centuries-old institution. The number of priests and nuns in industrialised countries is in sharp decline, though the Church still counts 693,000 nuns around the world and 55,000 priests. http://www.punchng.com/pope-francis-warns-priests-nuns-against-gossiping/ |

What about... Since garri prepared with hot water is still safe, then subjecting the dry garri to some high temperature and then cool thereafter is effectively safe.. Step 1: Get your garri from Iyawo down the street Step 2: Get a frying pan and 'refry' the garri while stirring properly Step 3: Air the garri for a short while to cool Step 4: Get an air-tight container to store your 'heated' or 'refried' garri Step 5: Go get your garri and use with cold water as before Sane? |
Now that we have been advised against drinking garri soaked in cold water, the worst hit are unarguably the students. Can we talk about other good, viable and quick alternatives to lessen this 'harsh' reality brought by 'Lassa rats'??

Barely one week after their formal inauguration, the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Wednesday, espoused his vision for the country, saying that Nigeria has no reason to buy weapons from other nations. The Minister who spoke during his inaugural meeting with the directors and heads in the ministry, said Science and Tech Ministry is at the centre of three major promises of security; job creation and fight against corruption, which were made by the new APC administration. He assured of his resolve to explore the nations’ potentials in science and technology in tackling the issue of insecurity across the country. ‘‘When we needed weapons to fight insurgents in the North East, it was difficult, even with our own money. Why do we need to go outside to buy weapons? When we have able men and materials that can manufacture most of the military equipment that we need. ‘‘India was buying weapons before but is now in a position to produce what they need, the defense industry we have in Kaduna was established at the same time with that of Brazil, but today theirs can manufacture aircraft, ships, tanks but ours will take a very long time unless we act very urgently. ‘‘Our ministry is very strategic as far as securing the nation is concerned. In the area of growing our economy, for too long, we have been a consuming nation; we import most of our needs. ‘‘We export wood but we import tooth pick, we export crude oil and import petroleum products, we export cocoa but import chocolate, this can be very disturbing. ‘‘The missing link is that the key we need to open the door for prosperity is missing, despite having all it takes to be a great nation.’’ In terms of economy, reducing poverty, creating jobs, ‘the Minister maintained that science and technology are vital in actualizing the objectives of the government and promised to leverage on the available opportunities to achieve the objectives. source:http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/we-have-no-reason-to-buy-weapons-outside-nigeria-onu/ |
Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai on Wednesday said Nigeria had sunk into such a ditch that it is beyond human capacity to redeem the country. Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in Abuja, el-Rufai said it was important for Nigerians to pray for President Muhammadu Buhari and his team because they have a difficult task to do. ADVERTISEMENT He said, “The thoughts and prayers of the entire Kaduna State Government and the entire Kaduna State people are with President Muhammadu Buhari and his team in this very difficult job of getting Nigeria out of the ditch that the previous administration put the country. “It is a challenging task. It is beyond human capacity actually. So all we can do as Nigerians and as individuals is to give the president and his ministers maximum support; to continue to pray for them and to continue to wish them well.” Receiving the governor, Mohammed described el-Rufai as colleague in the struggle, intrepid and courageous and not a man that would shy away from controversy. He disclosed that the ministry was in the process of launching a huge national campaign on national orientation. Mohammed said, “When the history of the All Progressive Congress is written; when the history of merger is written; when the history of the struggle is written; we will better understand the relationship between Mallam and me. “Our vision is to leverage on the unique power of information and culture to drive the change mantra. Our goal is simply to use this ministry to ensure that Nigerians take ownership of the change mantra in a manner that they will own it, they will live, and we as government will just be the driver. “Everybody is talking about change. We will not sleep in the night, wake up in the morning and see change. It is when we decide ourselves that the change should come that it will come.” source:http://punchng.com/getting-nigeriacity-el-rufai/ |
Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh has sensationally dropped Chelsea star Mikel Obi, preferring to start Sunshine Stars ace Paul Onobi, for today’s World Cup qualifier against Swaziland. Onobi has been outstanding for the country’s home-based team who recently qualified for the CHAN in Rwanda next year. He is expected to bring his creativity to a midfield which was short of that in Lobambo on Friday in a disappointing goalless draw. The other changes from the starting XI in Swaziland are at left back where Chima Akas from Sharks in the local league has been picked ahead of Elderson Echiejile from AS Monaco and Abia Warriors central defender Austin Oboroakpo comes in from Turkey-based Godfrey Oboabona. President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said former President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party were not mentally prepared for the defeat they suffered during the April general elections, Buhari said this in Abuja on Monday in a keynote address titled, the Challenges of Transition in Nigeria and the Imperatives for a New Framework, at an event on Strengthening Nigeria’s Transition Framework for Democratic Consolidation organised by the National Democratic Institute. The President, who was represented at the event by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said as a result of lack of mental preparation, the government of Jonathan could not put the structures necessary for transition in place and this nearly led to a national crisis. At the event, the Minister of Youths and Sports, Mr. Solomon Lalung, said the transition committee set up by Buhari was offered only N20m which was turned down because it was adequate to take care of its expenses. Buhari said, “Our experience in the last transition process was unique despite the fact that we have held many general elections and there have been hand over of four from one government to another. Indeed, the last election heralded the first real transition in the history of our nation, being the first time that an opposition party will sweep the ruling party out of power. “This probably explains why the then ruling government was completely caught unawares by the outcome of the election. For the government led by a ruling party that vowed to stay in power for 60 years in the first instance, they were not prepared for the transition that would not be from themselves to themselves. How can they, when they felt invincible, judging by the perceived strength and assumed popularity and the huge resources at their disposal? “Because they were not mentally prepared for the outcome of that election, they were unable to put in place structures that would make the transition process that followed. Because our country lacks an institutionalised transition system, the then ruling government simply did not know what to do, and unpatriotic elements exploited the situation, which almost led to a national crisis.” Speaking at the event, Director of White House Transition Project, United States of America, Prof. Martha Kumar, said an incoming administration should be able to gather whatever information it needs from the incumbent administration. For a successful transition following the election, the burden should be on the incumbent administration to provide whatever the incoming administration believes it needs to see, she said. The NDI Country Director, Mr. Jasper Veen, said although many African countries had witnessed a transfer of power from one elected president to another, not many countries have witnessed the transfer of power between a governing party and opposition party. source: http://punchng.com/jonathan-pdp-not-mentally-prepared-for-defeat-buhari/ |
