Tales of destruction caused by trucks on Nigerian roads leave a sour taste in the mouth. Drivers of the heavy vehicles often take advantage of their huge size to intimidate motorists on the road. It even gets worse sometimes, when they collide with smaller vehicles. It takes a miracle for such collisions to not be fatal. As a result of this, a video of a truck making way for a Rolls-Royce to pass in Lagos is trending online. Truck drivers are always in a hurry to move. They know that drivers of smaller vehicles are afraid to drag the road with them. However, seeing the exotic white Rolls-Royce, the truck driver in the video knew that such a car must be very expensive, and must be owned by “somebody.” If he scratched the car in the process of trying to pass before it, he would get into serious trouble. So, he simply respected himself and urged the Rolls-Royce driver to move before him. This shows the importance of money. If you drive a fancy car, everyone, including crazy Lagos truck drivers, will respect you on the road. Watch video here: https://naijauto.com/market-news/lagos-truck-driver-and-rolls-royce-car-5721

The Edo State Police Command has arrested an army officer, Eyosu Kennedy, for the alleged stealing of a Toyota Camry car. 25-year-old Kennedy was among the 48 suspects paraded publicly by the police for their involvement in different forms of crime, last weekend. According to the Police, the suspect who belongs to the Battalion 112 in Borno State, stole in the car in Abuja, and transported it down to Edo state to find a buyer. He was nabbed in the process of selling it off. Speaking to newsmen, Kennedy, however, disclosed that he did not steal the car, but bought it from a man who posed as a Custom Officer in Maiduguri. He said that the man asked him to pay 500,000 for the vehicle, but he (Kennedy) explained that he had only 100,000 and promised to pay the balance later. The man handed him the car, and he drove it down to Benin. The car developed a fault while driving it around town, and he took it to a mechanic who showed interest in helping him sell it off. "I told him that I bought it from a custom officer in Maiduguri but that it has no papers. He asked of custom clearance papers since I bought the car from a custom officer and I told him that I don’t have because the officer said the car was moved from custom’s warehouse and doesn’t want his boss to know of it.” Kennedy further disclosed that the mechanic informed him that a Police officer had indicated interest in buying the car, and asked him to come back later in the evening. He met the officer, and both of them agreed on a selling price. The officer lured him to the office, saying that he needed to pick some money from the office. “When we got to the office, he asked for the car paper and I told him how I got the car. They searched the car and found some papers. They called the number on it, and the person who picked the call said it was his vehicle that was stolen in Abuja. So, they arrested me. I didn’t steal the car,” Edo State Commissioner of Police, Lawan Tanko Jemeta, said that the case would be taken to court. Water is no respecter of class. An exotic Mercedes-Benz C-Class got caught up in the flood ravaging some parts of South Africa. A video circulating online shows the white fancy ride floating on water like a piece of paper. The ease at which the car floats shows the depth of the water. It continues moving downwards until it meets a fence made of iron. That should be a good thing for the owner as the water did not make the car go missing. The C-Class has an estimated market price of $41,400. That is a lot of money to lose to flood. We are hoping that the owner got the car covered with insurance so that he/she will be compensated for any damage resulting from the flood. The heavy flood continues to hit the country’s capital Pretoria, Centurion and Midrand. The incident took place in Centurion where a rescue team is working tirelessly to reduce the effect of the flood, and get victims to safety. No fewer than 700 houses were reportedly consumed by the flood around Pretoria. The whole of South Africa is suffering electricity blackout due to the effects of the flood on their power supply. We hope that the situation is contained to prevent further damages. Watch video here https://naijauto.com/market-news/mercedes-benz-c-class-floats-on-water-5692

The Nigeria Police Force, Bayelsa State command, has been accused of knocking down a pedestrian with their patrol van, and abandoning him at the hospital in the state capital – Yenagoa. According to reports, the incident happened in the Ekeki area of Yenagoa when the victim, Shadrack Ogbonna, was crossing the road on May 6, 2019. He was allegedly hit by a police being driven against traffic. The officers in the van reportedly rushed Ogbonna to the hospital. It was disclosed by the doctor that he had sustained brain injuries, and needed to undergo a medical procedure abroad which would cost ₦5 million. Wife of the victim, Asu Ogbonna, revealed that the police had initially agreed to offset his hospital bills, but changed their mind after the doctors said 5 million was needed for a procedure overseas. According to her, the police stated that they would not offset the bills because the officer who knocked down her husband was on a state assignment when it happened. “That morning, I left him in the house to Swali market where I trade. Before I left, we talked about plans to raise money for our rent that was to expire in June. So, I was in the market when I got a call that my husband was involved in car accident. ““When I got to the hospital, I found my husband in a bad condition. I thought he was dead. I was told that he was hit by a police van driving against traffic. The police promised to take care of his medical bills, but they later said they would not give us a dime because it was the state government that sent them on an errand when the incident occurred.” Corroborating the story, the victim’s brother in law, Joseph Ngene, said the situation was pathetic. He disclosed that the police showed interest to assist initially, but took their hands off when they heard that ₦5 million was needed for a medical procedure abroad. “As it is now, it is clear that my brother would never live a normal life again, yet the police are asking us to go to court because they know that we don’t have the power and finance to challenge them on the matter. I want to plead with well-meaning Bayelsans and Nigerians to come to our aide.” Asinim Butswat, Bayelsa State Command Police Public Relations Officer, acknowledged that the accident occurred. The digital traffic lights we see all over Nigeria have not always been there. Once upon a time, what we had were a few manually-controlled traffic sign posts, used to coordinate the very few cars which belonged to the British colonials. A photo showing a traffic officer standing by the manual traffic sign post has surfaced online. The photo is believed to have been taking in Lagos before Nigeria gained her independence. In the photo, we see a smartly dressed young man standing by the signpost with the inscription “STOP” on one side. It was the duty of the officer to turn the post to the right position at every point in time. To do this effectively, the traffic officer would have to be on standby always, otherwise, there would be no one to control traffic. Thankfully, all that is in the past now. No one has to stand by the traffic light to control it. The lights are automated to regulate vehicle movements 24/7 in areas where they are installed and managed. This makes true the saying that “Rome was not built in a day.” From our days of humble beginnings, we continue to achieve greater heights as a nation. Tesla’s much-talked about Cybertruck continues to dominate the news as Elon Musk drives this vehicle to the public for the first time and gets involved in a minor mishap – crashing a traffic sign post when making his way out of a fancy restaurant in California. According to reports, the Tesla CEO had a night out with some friends at the restaurant. The restaurant’s valet strategically parked the popular truck right in front of its building for everyone to see. Expectedly, the truck drew a lot of attention, as people came in their numbers to take pictures of it. “Ordinary” people were not the only ones intrigued by the one-of-a-kind vehicle. Hollywood Actor, Edward Norton, who was at the restaurant at the time, stepped out to check it out too. Upon hitting the signpost with the rear wheels of the truck, Musk allegedly did not bother to find out if any damage was done. He drove away like nothing happened. The incident is the second embarrassing account the Cybertruck has recorded since its highly-publicized unveiling. The first encounter happened during a test at the unveiling ceremony to showcase how strong the truck’s windows were. To Musk’s surprise, two of the windows broke when they were hit with a steel ball, failing the test. The CEO stated that, perhaps the demonstrators hit the windows too hard. There was no sign of damage on the Cybertruck after it hit the signpost. This must be a plus to Tesla as it shows that the truck is strong. Orders for the futuristic vehicle continue to come in despite criticisms from some quarters. Understandably, everyone cannot like the vehicle. But given the good reviews, it is getting from more than a handful, it is evident that the truck is not basic. We hope to see it on Nigerian road soon. Tragedy was averted as two Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicles collided in the mile 12 area of Lagos State – passengers on board made it out alive with injuries on Monday, December 9, 2019. Naijauto gathered that the buses were headed for Ikorodu when the accident occurred at about 9:00 pm. One of the buses (250) had stopped by the bridge for passengers to alight when the other bus (200) ran into it after its brake had failed. Driver of bus 200 who pleaded anonymity reportedly stated that he had informed the management about the bus’s brake problem, but was compelled to work with it. A passenger aboard one of the vehicles said that the damage caused by the accident was not grievous because the moving bus was not on high speed. According to her, she and other passengers on the bus were castigating the driver for driving slowly. If he had listened to them and increased his speed, the story would have been a hard one to tell. Indeed, it is good to drive within the recommended speed limits as it reduces the rate of casualties in a crash. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Enugu Command, has disclosed that drivers detected to be driving under the influence of substances such as drugs and alcohol would be taken to the National Drug and Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). This warning was made by the FRSC Commander in Enugu State, Kalu Ogbonnaya, at the commencement of the institution’s ‘ember month awareness campaign by the Nsukka unit titled “Road Safety is a state of mind, road traffic crash is an absence of mind, stay alert and stay alive.” In adhering to the theme of the month, the Commander beckoned on the management of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to prohibit the sale of alcoholic drinks within its vicinity. Ogbonnaya said that most accidents were repercussions of drivers indulging in alcohol and hard drugs before hitting the road. Anyone who tested positive would have to answer to the NDLEA. American rapper 50 Cent may no longer have a thriving rapping career, but he manages to still be in the news. Not just for his acting as lead Actor in the “Power” TV series, but also for his online trolling. Every now and then, the “In Da Club” crooner takes a jab at someone. This time, he went for Elon Musk and his Cybertruck. Following the unveiling of the Cybertruck which Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, had earlier described as one-of-a-kind, everyone could not stop talking about it. Indeed, it was nothing like the vehicles people were used to. It could easily pass for a vehicle from a sci-fi movie. But it was a lot more than that. It was real, and available to those who could afford it. In no time, Tesla started receiving orders for the truck. Instead of placing his own order, 50 Cent decided to announce his own bike edition tagged “Tesla Bike 50 Cent Edition.” The announcement was posted on Instagram along with a video of a man riding a bike rectangular in shape. It turned out that there was no such thing in the offing, the rapper was only trolling Elon Musk and his Cybertruck. Tesla has also unveiled two additional products that have caught the fancy of Artistes. One of them is the Tesla 4-wheeler which rapper Meek Mill expressed interest in. An Instagram user has shared a video showing him being driven in an Uber by one-time Nigerian music sensation May D in Sweden. According to him, he ordered an Uber ride, and May D showed up as his driver. Obviously surprised by this, he proceeded to make a video of the incident, probably to serve as proof. In the video, we see both the young man and May D seated in the front seat. And the young man makes a statement, saying: “My Uber driver” pointing at the artiste who was signed to a record label owned by P-Square. The video is trending online, with people sharing their views. While some think it is demeaning for a “Superstar” to leave his country to become a driver abroad, others think it is humble of him to have taken up the job regardless of his status back home. He is doing honest work to feed his family. The fan might have been excited to be driven by May D, but he stated that he would give him a 1-star rating because the Singer was talking on the phone while driving. A commercial taxi driver in Jos has been commended by the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) for returning the sum of ₦420,000 which a passenger forgot in his vehicle. Naijauto gathered that the driver, Ishaku Bulus, picked up the passenger, Ezema Ukaku, in the Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State to bring him down to the state capital Jos – where he wanted to buy goods for his fairly-used clothing business. The passenger alighted around Ahmadu Bello Way, and forgot to take his bag which contained ₦420,000 along with him. Bulus revealed that, upon seeing the money, his first instinct was to return it to the owner. He did not conceive the thought of running away with it because it was not his sweat. When he informed his friends about the development, some of them advised him to take the money, but he paid no attention to them. He proceeded to find a means to reach the passenger. An elated Ukako stated that he was surprised about the driver’s action. According to him, the money was the only capital he had for the business he was about to start. He was troubled after forgetting it in the cab, but felt relaxed after he was called to pick it up. NURTW Chairman in the state, Yusha’u Muhammad, expressed his appreciation to the driver for his character, and charged other drivers to be like him. A video of a police officer and a bus conductor involved in a physical altercation in Lagos is currently making the rounds on social media. The genesis of the commotion cannot be ascertained as the video begins when the drama has already begun. The video opens with the conductor taking off his shirt, in preparation for a showdown. A voice believed to be that of the police officer is heard saying: are you mad? I’ll kill you throwaway o. Angered by this statement, the conductor walks up to the police officer. He pushes the officer, and the officer retaliates with a slap. The conductor returns the slap, and then the video ends. All pleas by people around to the conductor fell on deaf ears as he was ready for a fight. One can only wonder what could have triggered such behavior from him. Incidents of motorists and traffic personnel fighting are not new in Lagos. Recently, the Lagos State Government issued a stern warning to motorists who are fond of attacking traffic personnel in the state. It was stated that anyone found wanting would face the law. Despite so much advancement in automobile technology, flying cars are still rare. But surprisingly, such a car was produced as far back as 1954. Yes, you read right. The one-of-a-kind car was designed by Engineer Moulton Taylor in 1949. Having received good feedback, a few units were manufactured in the 1950s. These cars are treasured due to their rarity. However, a lucky buyer will get the chance to acquire of them come January 2020 at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction. A two-seater, only two people can be accommodated in the aero car. It has a four-cylinder Lycoming 0-320 engine that is horizontally opposed. This is complemented with a manual transmission of 3 speeds. The front wheels are driven on the road. But on air, it uses an aft-located propeller. When driven in the streets, it detaches the propeller, fuselage and wings to allow free movement. The detached features are conveyed in a trailer right behind the car. A vehicle with both road and air capacity is not the norm. Understandably, one might be afraid to fly in it. But the records are positive. The aero car has covered 781 hours in the air and 15,000 miles on the road. It also has the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification as a vehicle with both road and air capacities. So, you have nothing to be afraid of. Automobile enthusiasts are gearing up for the January auction. Some hopefuls are looking to take it home. The auction will be a no-reserve. Although the take-home price cannot be ascertained at the moment, the aero car was once put up for sale at a Minnesota museum at the rate of $895,000 (324.4 million). Riding this aero car in Nigeria would be awesome, right? Culled from https://naijauto.com/market-news/1954-taylor-aerocar-flying-car-auction-5633

The internet buzzes with interesting content every day. This time, a video of a driver in a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) helping a waste reclaimer push his trolly up a hilly road is the center of attraction. The driver takes his time to position his car for the push! Events leading up to the act are unknown. But it seems the driver saw the difficulty the waste reclaimer was having pushing his trolly through the hilly road. Rather than drive past like other motorists, he offered to make the work easier for him. The driver is seen positioning his car in line with the trolly.
