Seven women were found dead in a beauty salon in the Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State on Thursday, July 30.

The spokesperson of the state police command, Wasiu Abiodun, who confirmed this to newsmen, said the victims, two married women and five single ladies, had gone to the salon to make their hair in preparation for Sallah when they met their untimely death.

Eyewitnesses say the women died from inhaling fumes from the generator used in the salon. The area had experienced a heavy downpour that Thursday, which affected their power supply. In order to continue servicing her customers, the salon owner reportedly brought in a generator into the salon and closed the door. The women sadly inhaled the fumes, causing them to choke to death. While five of them died on the spot, two others died in the hospital where they were rushed to...

A married commercial motorcyclist identified simply as Dare, has been arrested for raping a 12-year-old girl identified as Zainab Justina Adeyemo to death.

The deceased had boarded the suspect's motorcycle in Akoko area of the state, but was forcefully dragged into a bush where the suspect raped her to death on Friday July 17, 2020. Dare who admitted to carrying the girl on his motorcyle after almost being lynched by his colleagues, said Zainab died as result of the struggle that ensued between them.

Speaking to Vanguard, Zainab's mother said;

“On getting to the police station, now visibly frightened Dare pleaded that he should be treated gently assuring that the missing girl would eventually be seen. Shockingly, he further claimed that while he was on his way from Eshe to Irun with Zainab, they had an accident and the girl was seriously wounded.

“Initially, we told the police to carry out immediate investigation into his claims but they were insisting that we must wait for the stipulated 24 hours before taking any action...

Legendary Nigerian singer, Ebenezer Obey, who lost his wife in 2011, has hinted he might get married again but has dismissed any plans of getting married to a young lady.

In an interview with The Nation, the 78-year-old multiple award-winning singer said it is only a foolish old man that will get married to a young lady who hasn't yet experienced anything in life. He says for him, whenever he is ready to settle down again, it would be for companionship and he would be looking at a woman in her 60s and not a young lady.

Dubai crown prince, Hamdan bin Mohammed has paid the hospital bill of a Nigerian family that was stranded in the country.

It was reported earlier that Tijani and Suliyah Abdulkareem who welcomed their quadruplets at the Latifa Hospital for Women and Children on July 1, had no medical insurance and were indebted to the tune of $120,000.

They incurred the medical bill after their babies (two boys and two girls) were placed on ventilators at the neonatal intensive care unit after being born prematurely.

Expressing gratitude to Hamdan bin Mohammed for coming to their aid, Abdulkareem said two of the children will be named after him while one of the girls will be named after the hospital....

A Ghanaian lady was subjected to a round of flogging after being caught red-handed sleeping with a Sudanese man in Saudi Arabia.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu received a rousing welcome when he returned to Abia state on Monday, July 27, months after he was released from prison.

Recall that in December 2019, the former Abia state governor was sentenced to 12 years in prison after he was convicted for N7.1bn fraud alongside his firm, Slok Nigeria Limited, and a former Director of Finance during his tenure, Ugo Udeogu.

The Supreme court on May 8, 2020, then nullified Kalu and Udeogo's conviction on grounds that the presiding judge, Justice Mohammed Idris, lacked the jurisdiction to have presided over their case. He was released from Kuje prison on June 3, 2020.

Two persons have been confirmed dead while three others were injured after a 20-feet container fell on a commercial bus at Ilasamaja on the Oshodi-Badagry Expressway in Lagos state.

A statement released by the Director-General Lagos State Emergency Management Agency LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, today July 27, said the accident occurred on Sunday, July 26 and that the dead bodies and injured persons were taken to the Isolo General Hospital.

Oke-Osanyintolu said those who died had been identified as a male and female.

He said when the LASEMA Responder got to the scene, it discovered that the truck with registration number SGM 715 XA and loaded with a 20-ft container had collided with the commercial bus discharging passengers under the bridge at Ilasamaja at about 7p.m...

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has said that security in Nigeria is currently way better than it was five years ago.

Leadership reports that the Army chief stated this in his remarks during a sit-out with soldiers injured in the line of duty at various operations against insurgency, and currently receiving treatment at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna over the weekend.

The police in Osun state have arrested a Nurse identified as Tunde Oyeniran, for allegedly using a cutlass to kill his wife and their two children at their home in Inisa town in the state on Friday, July 24.

Spokesperson of the state police command, Yemisi Opalola, who confirmed this to newsmen, said Oyeniran allegedly hacked his wife and children to death and thereafter used the cutlass to inflict cuts on himself in the hand and stomach. He then raised an alarm claiming that his family was attacked by hoodlums.

Opalola said Oyeniran has been arrested and is currently being treated for the injuries on his body. She said a preliminary investigation revealed a foul play. She said men of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department have already commenced investigation to unravel the mystery behind the attack.

“From the information available to us, the incident happened around 11pm last Friday in Inisa. The suspect reportedly used a cutlass to kill his wife, Sarah, and the two children living with them.

A Nigerian man who graduated with a third class from the University of Ibadan has graduated from the University of Plymouth with a first class and he took to Twitter to share his story.

He admitted that he didn't give his best while schooling in UI and, as a result, he had to come back for an extra semester after his mates had graduated. In spite of all that, he graduated with a third class degree.

A three-storey building which is still under construction at Nkaliki Road opposite the Abakaliki Local Government Council Headquarters, has collapsed.

Some government officials which includes the Secretary to the State Government Kenneth Ugbala; Commissioner for Internal Security, Stanley Okoro Emegha; Special Assistant to the Governor on Capital Territory, Chinyelu Udoku and Chairman of Abakaliki Capital Territory Development Board (ACTDB) Dr Uche Onwe have visited the site.

While Ugbala directed the immediate sealing of the site and demolition of the building, Emegha ordered the arrest of the site engineer. Udoku asked the ACTDB to produce the staff that approved the building and all those in charge of monitoring the construction.

Onwe on the other hand said investigations revealed that sub-standard materials were used for the building which also had lots of structural defects. He added that those found culpable will be arrested and prosecuted.

The police in Ogun state have arrested two men notorious for stealing motorcycles in the state.

A statement from the state police command spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, says the suspects, Joshua Michael, 27 and Emeka Nwanga, 26, were apprehended on Monday, July 20 with the combined efforts of policemen attached to Ilese-Ijebu Division in Ijebu-Ode.

According to Oyeyemi, the suspects were behind most cases of motorcycle snatching in the Ijebu-Ode and its environs. He said the suspects were arrested when they attempted snatching another motorcycle at Ikangba Estate and a distress call was put across to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP Olusesi Kayode, who promptly mobilized his Anti-robbery team to the scene....

A popular singer based in Imo state, Uba Obinna Agbaso aka ‘Ababanna’, has reportedly been arrested by men of the police division at Agbala in Owerri North council area of the state following allegedly raping a 12-year old girl.

The Nation reports that the victim is the daughter of a vulcanizer, Victor Okereocha and lives with him after he separated from her mother. She was allegedly raped over three times by the singer.

An uncle of the victim, Godwin Okereocha, said the suspect and the victim live in the same compound and that the suspect took advantage of the girl each time her father left for work.

“They all live in the same compound at Emoha in Owerri North council area, and whenever Victor leaves for work, Ababanna who is a popular musician, would sneak in and waylay my brother’s underaged daughter with threats and intimidation. It did not happen once and it did not happen twice, Ababanna serially raped the poor girl time and again.” he said

Speaking on how he was caught, Godwin Okereocha said that the little girl at some point could not endure the torture of dying in silence and so confided in her immediate elder brother who is 14 years old.....

The Abia state police command has launched a manhunt for nine out of the 29 criminal suspects that escaped from a police cell in Umuahia on Saturday July 18.

The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the death of 5 people, following a bomb explosion at a farm in Yammama village, Malumfashi Local Government area of the state.

Kastina Police Spokesperson, SP Gambo Isah said 5 children were killed in the explosion while six others were injured in the blast which occurred at about 11:30 am on Saturday July 18.

Isah revealed that those injured have been taken to Malumfashi General Hospital for medical attention....
