after doing manual weeding on a 50+ days old melon farm the crops simply started to wilt and die and the hardest part is that it has already formed hundreds of heads,it's tough to see someone money and effort waving bye bye like that,and the ones that survive was attacked by squirrels,rats,grasscutters, porcupines,etc,they destroyed the remaining balls,if you want to do melon make sure you plan for pre emergence herbicides application that can last 100 days no weeds,plan for drip irrigation,if you spray water on melon na die be that,also have a rodent deterrent in place to aviod damage to the balls.
i avoided cucumber thinking water melon will be a better option. our millions went down the drain. 6hectres of water melon. we resorted to spraying maize on the land.

yes,basal manure application is a must with watermelon,and pls be careful about melon,it's not rugged like cucumbers,it can die anyhow,for me melon is 50/50
Water melon ehnnn.. . My friends and I invested on 6 hectres of water melon in April. It was all loss on investment. It was not funny at all.

Bad as.s group. hahahahahhahha!

Bro! You have just confirmed what I have been saying. If you really like yourself and you do not want to destroy your land and have mildew accumulation in your soil so you continue depending on fungicide, start rotating crops. I do not know if that is your first time or second time with cucumber, but your land is still very healthy for you not yo catch midew without fungicide during this rainy season. Please remove totally all the leaves you plucked from your plants. Pack them in a place and burn when they are dry, else, your soil will become habitation of mildew. If you follow this rule, trust me, you will never use fungicides on your farm. If you will use, it will be just Mancozeb for controlling and prevention, and on few occasions systemic just to be safe. Or better still, it will be organic home made formulars you will be using. Please, let chemicals be strange to you, and never get used to them . I started on a dead land, so I just always pressed to use chemicals and they were not effective. Until I sat down to address the issue and I taught many how to heal their soil.

If you notice Nematodes in the soil, put in roots, or the likes of watermelon and cucumber with wide roots. So, if I were you, I would consider eggplant after cucumber. Cos there will be minimal Nematodes in the soil which will affect it. And then, you move to carrot afterward. Then, you may consider cauliflower or cabbage. And lettuce cos all pests are almost gone and since you don't want pests on your leaves. Move back to cucurbits - cucumber/watermelon/zuchini/squash/melon etc.

And keep bombarding your soil with manure. and if you are smart, get permanent beds....bombard with microbes and mulch. Worms will be playing underneath your soil, and it makes it healthy. Keep away from NPK totally. But can still use the likes of Lime or CaCO3, Epsom salt, and I think Calcium Nitrate and Potassium nitrates are less toxic to worms and microbes. Even urea can still be used at vrry low quantity. No side drrssing, but fertigation. The worst salt is MOP, Chloride is salt despite its high potassium nutrient. Just study hard. It is not that difficult like people think it is. And there is no permanent style will publish about soil preparation on my thread cos I am getting too many questions regarding that. But the open secret is compost +microbes, compost, compost

Farming is common sense

I have tried it and I am still doing it sending to Enugu, onitcha and Lagos sometimes but if you can't go to the north to buy it forget it
You won't make much profit from it, but if you travel to Jos or Zaria you will buy and send to any location of your choice and you will make your profit.
hmmm, so it's necessary I source for the pepper/tomatoes myself. I then follow the trailer to the delivery location or someone will take the delivery for me?? I will like to have your contact for more clarification. This is my contact 08108636582

I will suggest you do your market survey from market and from the source of purchasing the tomatoes.

* Price fluctuate with time
* Transport could dissapoint
* Market might be saturated
* Agents are there to consider

Yes. I have done the business before
No. I don't have the time to spare for the questions.

Currently my team produce vegetables and take to market directly. We don't sell to agent or Middle men

Take time to understand the business
thanks ma. I know all businesses has it's risks and challenges. My target point of sales is mile 12 in lag. And I think one of the strategies I need to know is when I need to bring in the goods to avoid saturation. I am considering pepper cos I think tomatoes is more perishable. My other consideration is maybe to buy when from trailers in mile 12 then sell to retailers coming into mile 12 to sell

Are you ready to take the risk?
Tomatoes market is unstable and it can give you huge shortage sometimes and huge gain sometimes
So if you are ready for the risk you can try
But I will advice if you are not the farmer look for something else to do maybe another business
oh oh, have you tried the biz B4?? Kindly shed more light on it please. I need more contributions
