xynerise:I would have voted for Peter Obi & GRV, if I had a PVC and lived in Lagos State. Just to send a message to APC that they need to give us their best. I would not have been upset by GRV's loss because of his sparse CV. My vote for GRV would have been a protest vote against APC. 1 Like |
Politics / An Apology To The Igbo People Of Nigeria by Seun(m): 3:39pm On Mar 20, 2023 |
Dear Igbo People, I sincerely apologize for allowing a toxic political banner advert which said, "Lagos can never be run from Anambra; go and vote" to run on Nairaland for several hours on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. The mischievously worded banner advert appears to have been part of an ethnically divisive political campaign aimed at securing Lagos State for the ruling party by instilling fear in Yoruba people, making them believe that Igbo people intended to "take over" Lagos State. Such ethnically divisive political campaigns have no place in a forward-thinking democracy, and for this reason, the ad should have been taken down instantly. No harm was intended, but my lack of forethought about the ethics of that type of advert led to a disappointing outcome. We should have had a clear policy against accepting negative and ethnically divisive ads on Nairaland, we should have communicated it to all advertisers, and we should have taken down any advert that violated that policy instantly. This will all be in place before the next election. We made almost N16,000 from the ad. We will double it and donate it to victims of political violence in Lagos. Please, do NOT give up on Nigeria. The times are challenging, but TOGETHER, we will overcome. Sincerely, Seun Osewa. 156 Likes 15 Shares |

Politics / Ask Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV) Any Question About His Lagos Governorship Bid by Seun(m): 7:49pm On Mar 08, 2023 |
Peter Obi's defeat of Tinubu in Lagos during the presidential election, and the defeat of many PDP/APC/APGA senate and house of reps candidates by Labour Party candidates have allowed many Labour Party members and supporters to believe that it is possible for the Labour Party to seize control of Lagos State from APC by defeating Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu in the 2023 governorship election of Lagos State. The man of the moment, who has been tasked with achieving this feat, is Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, also known as GRV. He's a MIT-trained architect, activist, and a politician since 2017. He has agreed to answer your questions about his bid to be the next governor of Lagos State. Please feel free to ask any question and also like and share any question that you want him to answer, so that it will not be missed. I'll set the ball rolling by asking a simple question: * Why did you leave architecture for politics after practicing in UK and Nigeria? Politics / Sanwo-Olu On His Plans For Youths & Peter Obi's Lagos Win by Seun(m): 12:17pm On Mar 08, 2023 |
Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State was interviewed on Arise TV this morning. Here's an interesting segment from the interview: Reuben Abati: Somebody sent a message, said Labour tsunami has forced Sanwo Olu out, to start talking to the media. And I guess the person was referring to the fact that the presidential candidate of your party lost to Labour in Lagos State. The question, what is the lesson that you've learnt from that, and you've taken away from that, particularly with regard to how young people of Lagos State voted on February 25. 30 Likes 4 Shares

wisemum:We are broke so keeping money is what we need right now. We don't need someone who thinks Buhari isn't wasting enough money. Also, development can and probably should be private sector driven. All the govt needs to do is create an enabling environment. Like providing power, security, etc. The talented people of Nigeria who are all over the world will take it from there. 11 Likes |

Politics / Vote For The Candidate Who Will Perform Best As President by Seun(m): 10:17am On Feb 25, 2023 |
Fellow Nairalanders, Today's presidential election is very important. We've experienced economic stagnation & contraction due to both external and self-inflicted factors. We've experienced an epidemic of kidnappings and violent deaths due to banditry, terrorism, ethnic clashes, and separatism. According to various presidential polls, We are faced with a historic three way race. Any one of them could win today, which means that you don't have to worry about the spoiler effect. Instead of voting for the lesser evil, you can vote for the best candidate of the 3. I therefore urge you to consider the responsibilities of the presidency - improving the economy, securing the nation, strengthening our democratic institutions, reforming the legal system - and pick the candidate who is most likely to perform excellently if he wins the election. Vote for someone who will appoint the best Nigerians at home or abroad to their administration. Someone who will unite the country. Someone who understands economics. Someone who has the physical & mental vigour required to handle the toughest job in the country. Don't vote for a mediocre candidate just because you think the best cannot win. Vote for your best. This time, your vote won't be wasted. Thank you, and good luck to Nigeria! 517 Likes 57 Shares |
Politics / CBN's Naira Note Confiscation Is Illegal - Fashola by Seun(m): 12:09pm On Feb 23, 2023 |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skmqHLZnb7A?t=680 Fashola appeared on AriseTV this morning to clarify his comments on the CBN's naira redesign policy. He said that the CBN Act doesn't support a confiscation of our old currency but a 1:1 swap of old and new currency. He also accused AriseTV of being biased in their coverage. Fashola: What has happened in the purported exercise of the Central Bank Act, especially section 20 where it talks about redesigning currencies, it gives powers undoubtedly to Central Bank to undertake that exercise. My understanding of that provision, because I've read it again and again, and what it suggests to me, my interpretation of that section of the law, is that if you choose to redesign a denomination A, say the 100, the 500, or the 200, every time I produce a 200 you must give me a 200. Every time I produce a 1000 you must give me a 1000 back, until that currency denomination is eventually taken out of circulation. {Cash swap is} the word used in the act. So what has been done here has no legal basis. That is my view. 20 Likes 3 Shares |
