As-salamu Alaykum Wr. Wb. My dearest friends, brothers and sisters, Importance of Lailatul Qadr (The Night of Decree) in Ramadan. Ramadan is the month of blessing in which our goal should be to achieve extreme levels of heights by worshiping Allah Almighty rather than just passing on this holy month without any achievement. One of the most special aspects of the month of Ramadan is that it includes Lailatul Qadr (the night of decree). As we all know that Lailatul Qadr is the most blessed night of the year. This is night in which Allah (SWT) chose to reveal the Holy Quran upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW). In Holy Qur'an, Allah Almighty says: “Verily! We have sent it (Qur'an) down in the Night of Decree (Lailatul Qadr). And what will make you know what the Night of Decree is? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. Therein descend the angels and the Rooh (i.e. Gabriel) by Allah’s Permission with all Decrees, Peace! until the appearance of dawn” [Qur'an, 97:1-5] As Qur'an was revealed in the Night of Decree so this is a clear indication that the recitation of the Qur'an on this Night of power (Lailatul Qadr) is more rewarding than during any other time of the year. If someone recites a single letter of the Qur'an, he/she will be blessed with ten deeds. Muslims believed that Lailatul Qadr is also the night in which Allah Almighty decides the destiny, sustenance, birth, death, good and evil of their affairs etc. for His creation. It is mentioned in the Holy Qur'an that this night is better than a thousand months as Allah Himself speaks: “The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months” (Quran, 97:3). This means the worship performed in this night brings more reward than that worship carried out for the duration of a thousand months. Lailatul Qadr is one of the major blessings of Ramadan. Importance of the night of decree could be analyzed in the following hadith of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). According to a hadith narrated by Ibn Abbas (RA), the Prophet (PBUH) said: “Seek it in the last ten days of Ramadan, when there are nine days left, and seven days left, and five days left” (Al-Bukhari). Lailatul Qadr the Night of Decree occurs in odd-numbered nights during the last ten days of Ramadan. It may be on twenty-first, twenty-third, twenty-fifth, twenty-seventh or twenty-ninth. It is narrated by Aisha (RA): “Allah’s Messenger (SAW) used to practice Itikaaf in the last ten nights and say: ‘Seek out Lailatul-Qadr in the (odd nights) of the last ten days of Ramadan” (Muslim). Lailatul Qadr is the night wherein Allah Almighty sends His special blessings from the heavens upon the earth. Even the angels from the heavens descend upon the earth and convey salaams to every believer who is indulged in worshipping of Allah Almighty. It is narrated on the authority of Ibn Abbas, that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) had said: “…all those angels who are stationed by the Sidratul Muntaha (lote tree of the utmost boundary beyond which none can pass) descend with the angel Jibraeel (AS) to the earth and there remain no male or female believers whom they do not convey salaams to, exempting the person who drinks liquor or consumes pork”. (Bukhari) The most subtle way to obtain benefit from the blessings of this night is to stay awake for the whole night and spend it in prayers. Those who cannot do so, for any reason, should at least spare a reasonable part of the night for Allah (SWT). May Allah Almighty give us the strength to gain the blessings of this night in the holy month of Ramadan! Ameen

-- Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) LAST SERMON -- Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) delivered his last sermon (Khutbah) on the ninth of Dhul Hijjah (12th and last month of the Islamic year), 10 years after Hijrah (migration from Makkah to Madinah) in the Uranah Valley of mount Arafat. His words were quite clear and concise and were directed to the entire humanity. After praising, and thanking Allah he said: “O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and take these words to those who could not be present here today. O people, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as Sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your Lord, and that He will indeed reckon your deeds. Allah has forbidden you to take usury (interest), therefore all interest obligation shall henceforth be waived. Your capital, however, is yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor suffer any inequity. Allah has Judged that there shall be no interest and that all the interest due to Abbas ibn Abd Al-Muttalib (Prophet’s uncle) shall henceforth be waived… Beware of Satan, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hope that he will ever be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things. O people, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under Allah’s trust and with His permission. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste. O people, listen to me in earnest, worship Allah, say your five daily prayers (Salah), fast during the month of Ramadan, and give your wealth in Zakat. Perform Hajj if you can afford to. All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety (taqwa) and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not, therefore, do injustice to yourselves. Remember, one day you will appear before Allah and answer your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone. O people, no prophet or apostle will come after me and no new faith will be born. Reason well, therefore, O people, and understand words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the Qu'ran and my example, the Sunnah and if you follow these you will never go astray. All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness, O Allah, that I have conveyed your message to your people”.

Dear Pa Buhari, Why not come to Oshodi and see young people struggling to catch buses to their places of work as early as 4.30am. You can stroll down to Computer Village too. Ariaria (Aba Market) should also be part of your itinerary. You would have a good sight of works done by very industrious intelligent young persons. Many young women in the Country, after their legitimate work for the day, do 'extra work' at night (what you know as the service of the 'other room') so as to cater for the needs of their immediate families. A friend of mine at the University of Lagos can provide their details if you need to meet them. Ask Jobberman and other job assistance 'consultants'/ agents how many people visit their websites per hour. Your cluelessness and anti-people programmes have turned most young persons to Consultants. Make-up Consultants inclusive. We have a Country where over 3,000 youths would wake as early as 4.30 am, knot their ties and trek kilometers to apply/sit a test for just 5 vacant positions in a Company where they would be underpaid at the end of the day. Yet to you, they are lazy. Ogbeni. While your son, Yusuf was busy jollificating and riding till he crashed a 56 million naira Powerbike with his friend; since he never worked for it, I and other young persons were at creeks of Ijebu, Ibadan, Osun, Ekiti, Owerri, Benin etc fighting in defence of democracy- that its dividends be shared among all. God sees my heart. If I had 56 million Naira, I would send you and your cohorts out of Aso Rock in a week. No jokes. I know a lot of graduates with ideas, who if given just 500,000 Naira would create business empires. Yet to you, they are lazy and sit-at-homes. Have you asked yourself why Nigerians make it everywhere in the World except Nigeria? Oh! I have forgotten you can't think beyond the locus of your shadow. We are lazy today. We accept. We want everything for free including sending you away. Many youths think that too would be free. But we are helping you to tell them it won't be free. We would chase you out. We won't sit at home anymore for freebies. Freedom is not free. We would stand now and go get our PVCs and we would show you the way to Daura come 2019. Thank you so much for reminding us! - baba mighty #Takeitback. |
