Politics / Ca-covld-19 Has Raised Up To N27bn To Fund Nigeria's Own COVID-19 Vaccine - CBN by sexyYBMB: 9:44am On May 13, 2020
The CBN had announced that CA-COVID-19 has raised N27bn as Nigeria plans to produce its own COVID-19 Vaccine.

The Central Bank of Nigeria revealed it will be funding Nigerian researchers and science institutions as they look forward to producing its own COVID-19 vaccine.

CBN says it is developing a framework under which grants and long term facilities will be provided to researchers, science institutions and biotechnology firms to develop COVID-19 vaccine.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, disclosed this at the unveiling of the THISDAY Dome Testing, Tracing and Treatment Centre, Abuja, on Tuesday.

According to Emefiele, Nigeria can’t afford to wait for foreign countries to develop their vaccines. He said it would be the last in the queue to receive curative remedies from other countries for the teeming population.

He said, “The CBN today challenges Nigerian scientists at home and in the Diaspora to go back to their laboratories and develop a Nigerian vaccine. Once validated by the Health Authorities, the CBN will step in and do the needful for the sake of over 200 million Nigerians now confronted by COVID-19.

“Our inability to accurately predict the extent to which the Coronavirus could spread, and how long it would last, requires that we build sufficient capacity within our health system to contain the spread of the virus, state by state, city by city and preserve the lives of vulnerable Nigerians.

“This requires that we all come together to support the work of the Presidential Task Force in its determination to save lives and stem the pandemic.”

He disclosed that so far the CA-COVlD-19 had raised up to N27bn to fund these initiatives, adding that these donations were being used to build well-equipped isolation centres across the 36 states of the federation.

Politics / BREAKING: We Will Send Orji Uzor Kalu Back To Prison –EFCC by sexyYBMB: 2:30pm On May 08, 2020
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has vowed to re-arrest and send the former Governor Orji Kalu back to prison immediately.

The EFCC said this in a statement by its Spokesman, Dele Oyewale, on Friday, while reacting to a judgment by the Supreme Court.

The apex court had upturned Kalu’s conviction and ordered a fresh trial, adding that the trial judge, Justice Mohammed Idris, was not competent to hear Kanu’s case since he had been elevated to the Court of Appeal.

The statement read in part, “The apex court based its verdict on the grounds that Justice Mohammed Idris, who convicted Kalu and others had been elevated to the Court of Appeal before the judgment and returned to the lower court to deliver the judgment which it considered as illegal.

“The EFCC considers the judgment of the apex court as quite unfortunate. It is a technical ambush against the trial of the former governor.  The commission is prepared for a fresh and immediate trial of the case because its evidences against Kalu and others are overwhelming.

“The corruption charges against Kalu still subsist because the Supreme Court did not acquit him of them.

The entire prosecutorial machinery of the EFCC would be launched in a fresh trial where justice is bound to be served in due course.”

Politics / The Governors Have Not Given Us What We Need To Start Operations - Amotekun by sexyYBMB: 9:50am On May 04, 2020
Amotekun has given reasons as to why they have not started operations in the south-west.

The group under the aegis of Soludero Hunters Association, said on Sunday that it was awaiting the directives from the six state governors and the leadership of the Yoruba World Congress on procedures for addressing insecurity in the zone. It also hinted that the necessary equipments needed to fully launch operations have not been provided by the governors.

The President, Soludero Hunters Association, Oba Nureni Ajijola Anabi, said in Ibadan, “We are ready to start operations immediately the Yoruba leaders and the governors brief us.

“The governors have not given us what to work with like vehicles and other logistics that will enable us to begin operations. The rampant cases of armed robbery attacks in Oyo State are disturbing.

“The robbers move in a large number of 20 to 50 to unleash terror on communities. Security should be a joint effort. It will not be possible for the hoodlums to continue their heinous crimes if Amotekun has started operations.

“The local preparation we need to make is already in place. We absolutely depend on Yoruba power.”

Twitter community is back with some more controversy. A user who appeared to be a tacha fan says the body odour or sweat of Tacha could cure coronavirus.

The user first dragged Wizid FC, saying Titans (Tacha fans) are more loyal than Wizkid fans. He rooted all the way for the ex BBNaija housemate claiming she could be the cure to coronavirus.

In his words, "Titans love Tacha more than Wizkid FC will ever love Wizkid. Titans have made Tacha trend everyday for almost a year something even C. Ronaldo can never do. They are beneath Tacha."

"After 100 years, the world will forget about WIZKID but Tacha will have Statues over Africa. I won't be surprised if the sweat of Tacha can cure Corona virus. She will be the first female president of Nigeria and America."

Politics / COVID-19: Only Indigenes Will Receive ‘palliatives In Abuja -FCTA Official by sexyYBMB: 5:42pm On Apr 28, 2020
There was a huge conflict in Abuja after a Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) official declared that only indigenes are entitled to palliatives in Abuja.
A resident reported to newsmen that the officials and Bhyazin traditional leader distinctly told them that the palliatives were “for only indigenes”.

This led to a huge disagreements between settlers which resulted in shots being fired, leaving some citizens, including youths and the elderly – injured.

In a chat with our correspondent, a resident and an eye witness narrated how the drama played out.

The Nigerian, in his sixties, explained: “We had received information that the FCTA would share some palliatives on Monday. The truck that conveyed the food items arrived at the community Sunday night. The truck was parked close to the Bhyazin Police State not far from Winners Church.

“As early as 6am on Monday, people gathered and formed a queue. Around 8/9 am, the distribution commenced. The officials started sharing rice and beans to people in nylon bags, buckets, large bowls or whatever the person is holding.

After an hour, people started to jump the line or give local boys N200 or N500 to help them fast-track collection. This led to shouting by some of us who had been orderly and on queue since 6am. Later, the Bhyazin Chief and FCTA people announced that they would, from that point, share the food items to indigenes only.

“According to them, at least they tried by giving a few non-indigenes, so we should be grateful. Imagine such comments from government workers and a so-called chief. The comment caused the atmosphere to get tense.

“The residents insisted that if Bhyazin Chief and FCTA people wanted to be partial, they should go with their palliatives or face their wrath. As they maintained their ground, protest erupted and everywhere became rowdy. Police and Civil Defence (NSCDC) operatives then fired gunshots in the air.

“It was while this was going on that they hurriedly drove the truck away, That was how their palliative disbursement in Bhyazin ended. Help us tell them that God is watching what every human is doing and we will all give account.”

But the FCTA recalled that clear instructions were given that the distribution must be done without fear or favour, ethnicity or state, religious or political leanings.

In an interview with Daily Post, Aderonke Bello, Special Assistant to the FCT Minister of State, Ramatu Aliyu, expressed dismay at the Bhyazin incident.

The aide, however, guaranteed that the FCTA will investigate what transpired and make immediate amendments.

Bello said: “It is unfortunate that this happened. I can assure you that the minister (Aliyu) will look into the matter; she usually gets detailed reports of distributions in areas covered.

“You will recall that the minister (Aliyu) made it known to Nigerians that the palliatives should be distributed to everyone; that this from the FCT Administration to all residents, not indigenes. Your organisation published the news.

“Her directives were echoed in meetings with stakeholders including FCTA officials, council chairmen, ward councillors, community and religious heads as well as leaders of political parties. It is expected of these people to respect and effect what the minister mandated.
