Chairman of DAAR Communication and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, has described the All Progressives Congress, APC, as self-styled progressives and capitalists lacking democratic credentials, adding that the PDP finding itself in opposition today was caused by some of its members. He spoke yesterday in Benin, at the Edo State secretariat of the PDP, shortly after the inauguration of a 17 man Reconciliation and Mobilization Committee headed by him by the chairman of the Edo State PDP, Chief Dan Orbih ahead of the 2016 governorship election. Dokpesi said, “As a family, let us tell ourselves the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. The PDP’s setback and current opposition status in the state is solely caused by PDP members. Our penchant for undermining well known democratic practices, lack of internal democracy, the crave for personal interests as against the general good of the party and the determined posturing of self before others, are to mention a few, the root causes of our political dilemma in the state. “Let us look and search our individual and collective consciousness. The answer is inevitably that we are guilty as charged. Whether by association or dissolution, have each contributed to the misfortunes of the PDP in the state” http://www.vanguardngr. com/2015/07/apc-party-of-capitalists-lacking-democratic-credentials-dokpesi/ Source Discuss On Political News On Naija Pips.com Forum |
Lagos—Lagos State House of Assembly, through the Committee on Economic Planning and Budget, has uncovered bloated Overhead Estimate in the budget of the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs over the years to the detriment of the Capital Expenditure in the state. This came as the House proposed disbursement of N59 billion as the overall budget size for the year ending 31st December, 2015 for the 20 Local Government Areas, LGAs and 37 Local Council development Areas, LCDAs, in the state. This was contained in a report submitted by a Six-Man Adhoc Committee, set up by the house to scrutinize the 2015 Budget estimates of the councils and make recommendations. The committee which was inaugurated on June 18, 2015, and chaired by Hon Rotimi Abiru, submitted its findings to the House, Wednesday, July 30, 23. The 7th Legislative Assembly had earlier, mandated its house committee to carry-out the exercise in consonance with Section 3 of the Local Government Council Committee Law, 2007 which states inter alia that: “The Committee shall be responsible for the administration of the affairs of the Local Government in accordance with the provisions of Sections 33, 34 and 40 of the Local Government (Administration) Law, provided that with respect to the preparation of annual estimates of revenue and expenditure of the Local Governments, such shall be laid before the House of Assembly for debate and approval.” Based on the above law the committee swung into action, but could not conclude the assignment before the dissolution of the House on Monday, June 1, 2015. The findings of the committee revealed that most LGAs and LCDAs in the state performed poorly in the area of Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, hence, their reliance on Federal Allocation. http://www.vanguardngr .com/2015/07/lagos-assembly-uncovers-bloated-estimate-in-councils-budgets/ Source Discuss On Political News On Naija Pips.com Forum |
The Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, on Thursday, caused a stir in the upper chamber when he revealed how he collected signatures of other senators to impeach the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, in the 7th Senate. Ndume stated this while raising a point of order to draw the attention of the Senate to an “offensive report” published in The Nation newspaper of Thursday. The newspaper’s report had alleged that 22 Northern senators who signed the vote of confidence passed in Senator Bukola Saraki leadership of the Senate, were working against the interest of President Muhammadu Buhari, in the red chamber. Ndume said he contested the deputy senate president position with Ekweremadu on June 9, 2015 with the intention to win but had to accept his fate when the latter defeated him. He said, “I personally still want to be senate president. I also believe that any of us will not mind to be the senate president. As for the deputy senate president, I contested against the deputy senate president. I did not contest with him to lose that election. “I contested with him in order to win that election but it is God that gives power to whoever he wants. What ever happened on the 9th of June, my friend Ekweremadu became the deputy senate president. “Let me say for the record and for those that were not in the 7th Senate, it is not something of pride, but I stand here to say, he is here, that I am the only person that attempted to impeach him. “ I collected signatures in order to impeach him because of certain things which I explained and we discussed. “Why I am taking us through all these is because the nation is watching us and this drama that is going on cannot continue because that is not why we are here and this leadership thing whether we like it or not, whether we change it or we maintain this one, only one person will be the senate president. “I want to say something about an issue that has been lingering in this Senate and it is about to distort or take us away from the main reason why we are here. “I said it before and I am still maintaining this position. Each and every one of us here that is elected as a senator is qualified to be the senate president by all standards but it only that out of the 109 of us, one has to be the senate president while another person has to be the deputy senate president. It so happened, that Senator Bukola Saraki is now our senate president. “Senate leadership has gone beyond an individual. You cannot become the leader of the Senate when the senators are not ready to accept your leadership. If two-thirds of the senators say today that I am not the leader I am out.” http://www.punchng.com/news/i-wanted-to-impeach-ekweremadu- ndume/ Source Discuss On Political News On Naija Pips.com Forum |

The incident happened at Toluwalase Estate, Ijoko-Abule, in the Lemode area of Ogun State. It was learnt that the mother, Abosede Ogundare, had left Zainab with Kazeem to sweep the compound only to come back and met the baby with foams gushing out from her mouth. Ogundare alerted neighbours to the incident having found a bottle containing pesticide with her husband. ADVERTISEMENT Zainab was said to have been rushed to a hospital in the community, where she eventually died. It was also learnt that the suspect, who hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State, attempted to flee, but was held by residents, while the landlord of the house reported the case to the monarch of the community, Oba Solomon Sokunbi. The father was handed over to policemen at the Agbado Police Division after he confessed to the crime before the monarch. A resident, who identified himself only as Biodun, said Kazeem had been threatening to divorce his wife before the baby’s untimely death. He said: “He doesn’t love the woman and has been trying to divorce her. He poisoned the innocent baby to actualise his mission. They recently moved to this estate. She was their only child.” The landlord of the house, who wanted to remain anonymous, said the suspect had denied being Zainab’s father prior to the incident. He said, “Three days before the incident, Kazeem was looking for a pair of his slippers. When he did not find it on time, he started raining curses. I called him by his daughter’s name, and tried to caution him, but he warned me not to call him by her name again. It was when the incident happened that I realised he might have intentionally killed the child.” Sokunbi, the Oba of Ijoko-Lemode, said Kazeem owned up to the act, claiming that he was pushed by the devil. He said he had been following the case to ensure that the suspect was brought to justice. He said, “It was the landlord who came to report the case to me and I directed my chiefs to bring him and the wife to the palace. I asked the husband and he confessed. He said it was the handiwork of the devil. “I called the police from the Agbado Police Division to arrest him. They said he had been transferred to the state command headquarters. I have been following the case. This is a pure murder case and I want the police to duly prosecute the suspect and let him face the law.” The monarch added that Kazeem’s wife told him in the presence of his chiefs that she saw the bottle with him two days before the incident. He said: “The woman thought the bottle contained herbs. She said she left the child with him to sweep the compound, only to return and met Zainab gasping and foaming in the mouth. She said she smelled pesticide in the baby’s mouth.” The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that the case had been transferred to the command headquarters, adding that Zainab’s remains had been deposited in a mortuary. Adejobi said, “The corpse of the baby has been deposited in a mortuary. The case has been transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation for further investigation. “We have the suspect with us and he is going to be properly investigated. He and others found culpable in the course of our investigation will be charged to court.” Source-Naija Pips |
