Contrary to insinuations by the Osun Peoples Democratic Party PDP that the Governor, Rauf Aregbesola has diverted the bailout loan to finance contracts, the National President, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Aliyu Wabba, has said that the Osun bailout loan is intact. Comrade Wabba made this disclosure while speaking with journalists shortly after the union and other labour leaders met behind closed doors with the governor in his office in Osogbo. The NLC boss stated that NLC and other leaders who had come on a fact-finding mission have confirmed that Governor Aregbesola has no intention to divert the bailout funds on any project in the state as speculated in by the opposition. Wabba described the allegation as misleading and unfounded, stating that Osun government and labour leaders have come to a common ground on how the bailout funds would be disbursed for the payment of backlog of workers’ salary. He said the union and the state government have agreed to set up a five-man committee to oversee and work on the improvement of the state Internally Generated Revenue in order to prevent the state from future economic problem. Speaking on the progress made by the meeting, he noted that the state government has agreed to pay the backlog of salaries from the bailout loan it received. He added the delay in payment of the bailout by Osun government was occasioned by concern on the sustainability of the state resources to continuously meet up with the payment of workers’ salary after the bailout loan had been expended for the purpose it was meant for. The NLC boss stressed that the union has assured the governor of its support in boosting the state IGR so as to make the state to meet up with its recurrent and capital expenditure as well as other commitments. According to him, “I want to make it clear to the whole world that Governor Aregbesola has no intention whatsoever to divert the bailout funds for the execution or completion of any project in the state as he is ready to use the money for the payment of workers’ salary arrears. “We have reached a fruitful and workable ground with Mr. Governor on how the backlog salaries of our members would be paid. “Our union has comprehensively discussed with Mr. Governor on how the state IGR would be exponentially elevated so as for the state to meet with all its engagements as the governor envisaged largely on the sustainability of the state workforce in terms of salary payment”, Comrade Wabba noted. Speaking on the position of the state government towards the resolutions made at the meeting, he stressed that the governor was bordered by the state of the nation’s economy which he said has negatively affected the allocation received by the state. Wabba said that Aregbesola was of the opinion that unless the state IGR is improved, the state would be incapable to settling the bills of her workforce. Comrade Wabba said the union has come to realize the position of the state government on the need for all the stakeholders in the state to work collectively at blocking all leakages and as well increase the state IGR. www.today.ng/news/091515679-osun-govt-has-no-plan-to-divert-bailout-funds-nlc/ |

Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, on Thursday said that the killers of the former Attorney General and Minister for justice, Bola Ige, are the same persons trying to destabilise the state. The governor made the allegation while opening the Bola Ige Mechatronic Institute, at the Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke. “The spirit of Chief Bola Ige will not sleep until the killers are brought to book. These are the same individuals that have fruitlessly attempted to plunge the state into chaos and bring about a change of government through conspiracy and subterfuge in the recent past,” he said. “While the killers drink from the cup of shame, we shall continue to honour the memory of Ige as he is ensconced in the pantheons of departed Yoruba leaders.” Mr. Aregbesola noted that the Bola Ige Mechatronic Institute is a dream come true with the equipment alone costing N875 million. He said the institute would be a befitting legacy in honour of the slain Mr. Ige. He regretted that although Mr. Ige was brutally murdered by those who thought they could silence him, his spirit had been restless, but tormenting his killers who are sinking deeper in “the quagmire of infamy”. The governor said that the institute was the first of its kind in Africa, adding that the state’s vision for the institute began with the need to empower youths and equip artisans with the requisite skills to be relevant in an increasingly digital world. Mr. Aregbesola stressed that the newly commissioned institute would be training on-the-street mechanics from garages and candidates from automobile companies. He noted that the institute would also admit holders of Ordinary National Diploma and Technical College graduates for skills acquisition and Industrial Trainings. www.premiumtimesng.com/politics/189800-bola-iges-killers-threatening-osuns-stability-gov-aregbesola-2.html |
The Council of Academic Staff Union of Osun
State-owned Tertiary Institutions has called on
stakeholders in the state to prevail on Governor
Rauf Aregbesola to stop cutting down their
salaries under any guise.
The lecturers said this in a statement signed by
its Chairman, Lasisi Jimoh; Secretary, Olusegun
Lana and the Public Relations Officer, Dotun
Omisore, in Osogbo on Tuesday.
The body comprises of lecturers from the two
state polytechnics in Ire and Esa Oke as well as
the two colleges of education in Ila and Ilesa.
Jimoh said rather than seeking an end to the
ongoing industrial crisis in the institutions, the
state government complicated the situation by
cutting the lecturers’ salaries.
He stated that the lecturers’ salaries were cut in
January 2015 and the trend continued in
February. The council also accused the state
government of unilaterally scrapping the financial
gain that should have come with the 2014
promotions.
The statement partly read, “In our efforts to seek
justice amicably, we consulted the state
government through the Chief of Staff to the
Governor and the Head of Service in separate
meetings. At those meetings, the state
government admitted our position that the
financial effect of 2014 promotions and
‘migration of lower cadre’ are irreversible. We
had mutual understanding that our salaries would
be paid correctly once the then expected bailout
is received from the Federal Government.
“Now that the much-expected bailout has been
received, the state government has concluded
plans to sustain the pay cut contrary to the
principles of fair play, equity and collective
agreement between our union and the
government.
“Do we deserve to be short paid when all our
outstanding salaries, allowances and leave
bonuses were duly factored into the amount
requested as bailout?” www.punchng.com/news/bailout-osun-lecturers-reject-pay-cut/ |

Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, on
Tuesday assured civil servants that they will
be paid their outstanding salary arrears
before the end of the month. Aregbesola made the disclosure while
speaking at the National flag off ceremony
for the distribution of FGN/UBEC plastic
chairs and tables to all the states in the
country, in Osogbo, the Osun state capital.
He explained that his administration is
committed to the welfare of its workers,
and reassured that the eight months
salaries owed them will be settled before
the end of September.
He however expressed dissatisfaction that
some workers are working against his
efforts to block leakages in all sectors of
the state economy even as he urged the
workers to join in the fight against all
corrupt practices capable of destabilising
the nation. |
