If Nigeria fails to start producing rice,
by December 2016, the price of a bag
of rice could be N40,000, says the
Minister of State for Agriculture and
Rural Development, Senator Heineken
Lokpobiri.
Lokpobiri, who made this known at a
town hall meeting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa
State, Saturday, said that Nigeria
spends about $22bn a year on
importation of food into the country.
He said, “For your information, we
spend about $22bn a year importing
food into Nigeria. We know how many
more dollars they bought and that is
why you see the price of rice going
up.
“Price of rice was may be N12,000
some months ago, but it is now about
N26,000 and if we don’t start
producing, by December it could be
N40,000.
“Rice matures in three months. So,
this is a wake up call for Bayelsa
people to take the four farms we have
seriously. The federal government has
four farms in the state in our records.
The average land you see in Bayelsa
can grow rice, so the colonial masters
were not wrong in their assessment
when they said Niger Delta could feed
not only Nigerian but also the entire
West Africa sub-region.
“Unfortunately, agriculture till today, is
not a priority of the Niger Delta as far
as the state governments are
concerned because of oil.”
He said the states in the Niger Delta
had yet to give priority to agriculture
the way the North-West states such as
Kebbi, Jigawa, Kano as well as other
states like Lagos, Ebonyi, Anambra,
prioritised it.
He said Anambra State for instance,
was not owing salaries despite the
fact that it does not have oil but
raking in money by merely exporting
vegetables.

ABUJA- THERE was pandemonium
Thursday in Okpella, Estako East Local
Government area of Edo State as
supporters of the Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP clashed with those of the All
Progressives Congress, APC.
It was gathered that the incident
started brewing in the early hours of
yesterday when some PDP supporters
were alleged to have threatened to
carry out attack on any Okpellan
supporting the ruling APC in Okpella.
The clash came barely some hours to
the announcement of the
postponement of Saturday,
September 10 Edo State gubernatorial
election by the Independent National
Electoral Commission, INEC.
The clash is also coming barely three
days after a youth body in Okpella,
Okpella Youth Council, warned in a
recent publication of a possible
inversion of the community by thugs
hired by unknown politicians in
Okpella.
It was also gathered that the youths
were initially reacting to an alleged
gun shot at the gate of a PDP stalwart
in Okpella that took place at about
3am on Thursday.
According to an eyewitness and a
victim of the attack who spoke on
phone, Afebu Musa, said they
summoned a meeting to explain
more details to party supporters who
were curious about the likelihood of
the election in Edo State to hold on
Saturday after reports from the police
and DSS that there is a security threat
in the state.
Afebu said, “We were at a meeting
when they were passing during their
own campaign and they stopped
shouting who is doing this here.
“I could hear some of them saying,
this will not happen! How come they
are still not been deflected? ”
“As if the property they destroyed
were not enough, they have chased
my pregnant wife and one of my
tenants who they injured from my
house”.
“I sneaked out of my house with the
help of God and I don’t know how to
go back home because the police in
Okpella were helpless today at the
scene of the incident”.
“We call on security agencies to help
save us from the hands of these boys.
We have been peaceful all this while
and no one has found us wanting
throughout the campaigns but I am
surprise to see this happening.”

Italy‘s highest court has ruled that
masturbation in public is not a crime,
as long as it is not conducted in the
presence of minors.
The decision came down from the
Italian Supreme Court — La Corte di
Cassazione — in the case of a 69-year-
old man, identified only as “PL,” who
was caught masturbating in Catania, a
city on Sicily’s east coast. The man was
convicted in May 2015 after he
performed the act in front of students
on the University of Catania campus,
according to documents filed with
Supreme Court. The man was
sentenced to three months in prison
and ordered to pay a fine of €3,200
(around $3,600).
However, the defendant’s lawyer
appealed the case to the country’s
highest court, which ruled on the side
of the accused in June but only just
made its decision public. Judges ruled
that public masturbation out of the
presence of minors is no longer
deemed criminal conduct due to a
change in the law last year, which
decriminalized the act.
The new iteration of the criminal code
does call for imprisonment — of up to
four-and-a-half years — if the act is
witnessed by a minor.
In light of this ruling, the court
overturned “PL’s” sentence. The case
has been sent back to local courts in
Catania to determine exactly what the
administrative fine — between €5,000
($5,651) and 30,000 ($33,912) — will
be.
Public masturbation remains a
criminal offense in many other parts
of the world, where it can lead to a jail
sentence.

A British bishop has become the first
in the Church of England — the
mother church of the worldwide
Anglican faith — to announce he is
homosexual, in an interview
published Saturday.
Nicholas Chamberlain, the Bishop of
Grantham in central England, told the
Guardian newspaper he was in a long-
term relationship with his male
partner, after a Sunday paper
reportedly said it was about to publish
a story on his private life.
“It was not my decision to make a big
thing about coming out,” he said,
adding that he adhered to church
guidelines which stipulate that gay
clergy must be celibate.
“People know I’m gay, but it’s not the
first thing I’d say to anyone. Sexuality
is part of who I am, but it’s my
ministry that I want to focus on.”
The church knew he was gay when he
became a bishop last year, he
revealed.
“I was myself. Those making the
appointment knew about my sexual
identity.”
Archbishop of Canterbury Justin
Welby, leader of the world’s Anglican
faith, said Chamberlain’s sexuality was
“completely irrelevant”.
“His appointment as Bishop of
Grantham was made on the basis of
his skills and calling to serve the
church in the diocese of Lincoln,” he
said.
“He lives within the bishops’
guidelines and his sexuality is
completely irrelevant to his office.”
Chamberlain said of his relationship:
“It is faithful, loving, we are like-
minded, we enjoy each other’s
company and we share each other’s
life.”
A Church of England spokesman said
it would have been “unjust” not to
appoint him based due to his
sexuality.
The Church of England dropped its
opposition to gay clergymen in civil
partnerships becoming bishops in
2013, although many of the Anglican
faith worldwide — who number 80
million — were opposed.
The Anglican Church of Uganda in
2014 said it may consider breaking
away from their mother church in
England if it put Uganda under
pressure over its tough anti-
homosexuality law.

Treating it on time is another problem that may have caused her demise because of her reluctance to travel not just NYSC and their rules! Even in normal Federal Work you cant be seen deteriorating and you will be asked to keep working, for who in such a state ? No! Ulcer is not an obvious illness that one sees during its occurance, its left for the individual to take it with seriousness and attend to it. I know of Someone who died in Camp of Asthma simply because he didnt indicate he had medical issues while in camp and he collapsed on a normal daily drills and after all medical investigations, he had Asthma! NYSC says, come with all medical Report and it wont be neglected! Am speaking from my own personal experience. So ulcer and some other illness are not obvious which you may have to give close attention before it takes the individual down. Dont Blame NYSC my dear Corp Memberz, lets do whats right! Our Health is Important., we shouldn't neglect it even if its Headache.

CBN is quite aware ATM cards are not free and neither is it cheap to acquire one from the bant so why this systemic Theft policies? Nig Internet system is still not upto 65% so network can be messed at any time making ones ATM card to be witheld by the Machine and then you go to your Bank to request for another for N1,050. If this persist more often by network is this how customers are expected to keep requesting for new ATM cards? They had better come up with something better rippin of the N65 ATM charges instead of all this money making policies for banks.

This governors are SANs, intellectuals and diplomats who travels to developed countries weekly, How many of them on their journey there have come across nuisance like agbero holding sticks, woods uneducated collecting money from public buses? Why cant this govs import good atitudes to our society here in Nig? If Lagos State put a stop to Agbero, what will happen? Too bad! The few states in Nigeria I have traveled to, Only Lag constitutes such menace! Other states you drive and go to your place of work peacefuly without any stress or confrontations from any such uncultured human! All Govs in Lag has been Agberos and Area boys because if they arent, then as civilized as they are they would have put an end to this and place all security measures to curb the later challenges or outcome it may cause during the process of stopping it.
