For this trip, (Sablexxxtoons please pay attention here) we would need: 4 visas, 5 different motorcycle insurance (Nigeria, ECOWAS, Mauritania, Schengen and UK) 60 copies of Fiche (Google can help here) International driving licence Yellow card Covid certificate Health insurance. In addition, we are looking at: 40 nights on the road 36 border formalities 6 currencies 2 sets of tyres (minimum) 2 scheduled bike maintenance |
Essential tool kit for any "in the wilderness maintenance". These tools cover any emergency work that may be required to get moving again where there is no assistance. From dismantling fairings for access to inner bits to tyre removal etc. Selected tools are specific to the Africa Twin and pointers have been gotten from Africa Twin owners that have ridden the world. The kit is made up of pliers, screwdrivers, hex key tools, spanners (ring and flat), sockets, wrenches and extensions.

There are numerous elements to planning a trip like this. There is the bike and bike preparation - tyres, fluids, ensure and service all electrical/mechanicals etc. Also nourishment during the ride, energy bars, hydration (water/electrolyte). The gear! - You want to make sure you have comfortable clothing that will withstand the various weather conditions that will be encountered along the route - Rain, dust, high and low temperatures and the like. DOCUMENTATION - This is probably the biggest element here. . . . Oh! we haven't divulged the destination yet ![]() Ok let us hold on with the documentation for now ![]() In this post, we will spotlight on the gear: Jacket - RICHA Touareg 2 jacket (3 season riding jacket that can tackle all but cold winters) Helmet - ICON Airflite 4 Horsemen full face helmet. (Not the best for touring as it does not offer the flexibility of a modular helmet which can be flipped up either for nourishment or engaging people but hey, it is what we have) Pants - BMW Summer 2 pants Boots - SIDI Aria Goretex boots (waterproof and breathable) Gloves - one vented pair and another waterproof/Goretex pair Inner wear will be explained later

Howdy folks! It has been quite a while since any significant post from this Nairalander. It is that time of the decade where the stars of an itchy bum and the need for adventure have aligned with the moons of time, gusto and resource availability. We will be embarking on an epic adventure along the lines of the one in the link below: https://www.nairaland.com/1461211/road-trip-motorcycle-lagos-accra#18496548 This time however, cities touched will be several times more than the aforementioned Lagos-Cotonou-Lome-Accra. Are you ready? Then stay tuned and watch this space ![]() Get the live action on IG while I come back here on my rest days to give a comprehensive report.

Pick the ones that apply to your situation from the below. 423k is not a whole lot of money but you and others can learn from this What to do if you suddenly become rich. 1. Shut up. Don't tell anyone 2. Pay all debts and don't amass new ones 3. Don't quit day job or change routine....yet 4. Secure the money and let it sit for a while 5. Make self investment a priority. Learn money management. Money - Master the Game, Tony Robbins 6. Don't switch financial advisors 7. Get comfortable but not _"rich comfortable"_ 8. Don't invest in friend's business or lend them money 9. Don't start a business immediately 10. Prepare for change. Scam, sue, robbery etc 11. Focus on getting healthier. Full medical check etc 12. 5% rule. The money needs to be invested and generate at least 5% interest annually. Let all self spending be within this 5% 13. Protect your kids from the money. Trust fund and adequate allowance only 14. Don't cheat on your partner. Temptation will be big and mistakes will be costly. 15. Play it safe. Don't do shady business, gamble etc |

Hi. Documentation has not changed. : International driver's licence : International passport (or the ECOWAS passport) : International certificate of vaccination (Yellow card) : International certificate for motor vehicles : ECOWAS Motor vehicle insurance (a.k.a. Brown card) A new addition would be a less than 5-day old Covid PCR negative test result. Also, I think some borders may be officially closed to traffic. You may want to verify this. |
@Jakumo are you here? ![]() |
Kirkman:Tuale sir!! Life happened and there is now less Resuming soon though as soon as I am able to juggle things ![]() |
EgunMogaji2:You will need to be in 3rd gear and no less than 40km/r to jumpstart a Beemer Boxer ![]() Trust me, I know this. Congrats on your find x2! Looking forward to updates................. |
This is the second time I will use MayorAll for my purchase from the US. Items bought were very sensitive electrical parts for my Ducati Hypermotard. From the moment payment was made, he kept me constantly updated from purchase, to delivery to their US consolidation centre and final delivery to Lagos. I would certainly use them again and recommend with 5 Stars Thank you MayorAll |
EgunMogaji2:I would assume this is how we must have appeared to onlookers those many years ago on Nigerian highways. But right now me sef weak ![]()

HeavenlyBang:Please share! 2013+ Full Size Sedan |
nurey:Thanks for this Chief Nurey The Cadenza is apparently the more sensible choice. I was tending towards the Impala on looks, rarity (in Naija) and sportier handling. I await more inputs

Glad this thread is still very active. I would like to have a fair non-online based comparison for the two large sedans below: 2014 KIA Cadenza (V6) 2014 Chevrolet Impala. (V6) Both are on ground in Lagos and priced between NGN4 to 5m Thank you to the usual suspects ![]() |
EgunMogaji2:I would much rather do it like this ![]() Off the beaten path
