TV/Movies / Now That We’re Paying 100K, Here’s What We MUST See At This Year’s AMVCA by Shalombrain: 4:56am On Feb 24, 2017
Africa Magic, the organizers of the annual Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA), have announced that VIP tickets for this year’s event will go for one hundred thousand Naira each.

According to them, the ticket guarantees them all-access to the Eko Hotel-held event. They say bearers of the VIP ticket will have unrestricted access to the red carpet, the main show as well as post-event engagements including an after party.

That is no wahala at all. 100K abi? We will gather our life savings and pay it.

But these are the things we MUST see at the event after paying a whopping $195 for an awards ceremony in this recession, a fee that their mate in Hollywood used to do souvenir in thousand of Dollars last year.

We want none of those cocktail ish that normally......

TV/Movies / Recession Hits AMVCA, VIP Tickets To Be Sold; No Hotel For Nominees by Shalombrain: 4:40am On Feb 24, 2017
This is really serious, the times are hard and no one is exempted from the realities of a recession, not even Africa Magic, apparently.

The organisers of AMVCAs have announced the commencement of sales of VIP tickets to this year’s award show, which is slated for a yet-to-be-announced date. This is the first time in the history of the five-year-old awards that tickets will be sold. Interested attendees will have to cough out one hundred thousand Naira (N100,000) for a VIP ticket to the event.

TV/Movies / The Million Naira Oscar Gift Pack by Shalombrain: 3:52am On Feb 24, 2017
We all know that pack of souvenirs that is usually given out at the end of most Nigerian weddings, like to those who acrtuallly bought the aso ebiT, not the mo gbo mo ya kinda of gate crashers.

Well Hollywood guys are also implementing that style. You know the Nigerian Wedding gift packs comes in different class. like there are some weddings you attend and you are given just a branded hand fan and handkerchief and here are others you go and the give you gold plated iPhone 6s.

Am not sure which categories the Headies fall into, that’s if they belong to any at all but the Oscars obviously fall into the second category. Last year the Oscars gift packs were valued at Two hundred thousand dollars each, yeah you had that right, a hundred million in our own local currency, asin just mistakenly get one ticket to the Oscars 2016 and you done hammer be that.

But being that there will be more numbers of Africans, Nigerians to be precise, the organizers of the event have decided to cut down on the cost of each gift pack that will be handed out this year. This year the Oscar gift pack is valued at a hundred thousand Dollars tallying up to fifty million down here.

Still not bad in my own opinion, considering the economic recession and all that, half bread is better than none they say.

So what exactly is it you can find in this gift packs that make them so expensive ranging from expensive vacations to a 10-year supply of makeup, this are the 13 items that can be found in the 2017 Oscars gift bag worth over 50 million Naira.

TV/Movies / Hire A Man Grosses Over Twenty-three Million Naira by Shalombrain: 8:10am On Feb 23, 2017
Gone are the days when movie producers have issues with movie piracy, not that it has been fully eradicated but it has been reduced to a reasonable minimum.

Evidence are in the success in which movies like "A trip to Jamaica", "the wedding party" has enjoyed.

Yesterday the producer of "Hire a man" Chineylove Eze reported a huge success in the cinematic run of the motion picture piece

TV/Movies / The Wedding Party "Party" by Shalombrain: 1:41am On Feb 22, 2017
So this past Saturday, the cast and crew members (producer, director, screen writer, camera guys, actors and actress) of the Nollywood blockbusters and current holder of the no 1 highest grossing Nollywood movie title "The Wedding Party" all converged at the Eko Hotel convention center, the same location used for filming the wedding reception of the same movie.

When the movie grossed over four hundred million, it was history making and I thought there should be a way in which the crew could celebrate the success but I never envisaged a gathering at the convention center for such merriment.

Not until now I never knew there use to be an after party for a successful movie.

The gathering had in attendance lead actor Banky W, Kene Mkparu, Moses Babatope, Kemi Adetiba, Somkele Idhalama, Mo Abdu, Beverly Naya, Tope Oshin and a lot more. Obviously absent was AY Makun fellow actor and ace producer who played the role of master of ceremony in the film and whose movie, "A trip to Jamaica" is the closest rival to the wedding party.

TV/Movies / No Actress Can Take My Place In Nollywood, Mercy Johnson Dares Other Actresses by Shalombrain: 12:46pm On Feb 19, 2017
So recently aunty Mercy, mother of three, wife to a successful man and once Nollywood most bankable actress recently made some statements about her position in the Nigerian movie industry. Aunty dared any actress in Nollywood to take her position.

The multi talented actress boasted during a media interview that no one in the industry can play her role or replace her.

“I can never lose my place or be displaced by anybody. My name is Mercy Johnson Okojie, I never have such fear. Nollywood is like a family; it’s a large field and nobody can take anybody’s place.”

“Even though I don’t get to do many films, when I do one, people will know that Mercy has done this. It’s not pride, I’m just saying that I know who I am and I know what I’ve got,” she said.
She concluded that she was very much comfortable in her space.

ThanK God she knows she doesn’t get to act much films again.

The latest you get to hear about Mercy Johnson nowadays is the fact that she just got pregnant again or delivered of a bouncing baby. The last time Aunty made headlines was when

TV/Movies / Why Nollywood Cannot Produce Hollywood Quality Action Films. by Shalombrain: 1:07pm On Feb 17, 2017
We all love the John Wick kind of movies, the spectacular of Jason Bourne, the aura of Dwayne Johnson, the charisma of Vin Diesel.

More than 70% of those reading this blog has at one time or the other seen a mission impossible film or a James Bond flick.

So i was just wondering today why is it that I cannot see IK Ogbonna drive an Audi R18 Ultra roughly round the streets of Lekki, Lagos trying to escape Jim Iyke’s hooligans, or OC Ukeje blow up a building because his friend is being held hostage, i won’t mind a bad ass beat down from Kate Henshaw.

I remember when a Nollywood actor performed the stunt of jumping of a one storey balcony, it was big news then, it just leaves me thinking: is Nollywood ready for the big guns?

I would try to streamline this post to three main reasons why Nollywood cannot yet produce high quality action genre movies.

TV/Movies / Why Fifty Shades Darker Has Not Made It To The Nigerian Cinemas by Shalombrain: 9:45pm On Feb 16, 2017
Feb 10th, Fifty Shades Darker made its cinematic debut in LA at a private screening, two days later it was open to the general public and the United States as a whole, thereafter it started crossing borders into neighboring countries.

The valentine themed BDSM movie left a lot of Nigerian lovers stranded this past seven days.

TV/Movies / Film Review: ‘fifty Shades Darker’ by Shalombrain: 4:19pm On Feb 15, 2017
James Foley’s follow-up to 2015’s erotic schlockbuster lacks its predecessor’s surprising, feminine sass, but succeeds on its most superficial terms.

“I was reading Austen and Brontë and no one ever measured up to that,” says Anastasia Steele of her romantic history near the beginning of “Fifty Shades Darker.” Had she only been reading E.L. James, she might have been less disappointed in life — though in her first film outing, 2015’s slinky schlockbuster “Fifty Shades of Grey,” director Sam Taylor-Johnson and screenwriter Kelly Marcel also aspired to a higher standard. Smartly gutting James’s viscous purple prose for something more curt and witty, it was one of the great pleasant surprises in recent studio moviemaking. So it’s perhaps unfair to knock James Foley’s serviceable, lip-glossed sequel merely for delivering what might have reasonably been expected in the first place: an expensively scented two-hour soapdown, interspersed with some light erotic frisking, all administered very much with the original author’s sticky-fingered touch. Sure to make Grey at the Valentine’s Day box office, “Darker” does almost nothing to fulfil the promise of its title, but it’s still diverting, sleekly styled and just sexy enough to frighten a few frigid horses.

With a brusque farewell as the elevator doors clamped shut, ending a long, tortured romantic negotiation on the chilliest of notes, “Fifty Shades of Grey” pulled off what might have been one of the great modern Hollywood endings — if not for the assured knowledge that a sequel was coming down the pike to undo its decisive snap. The original novel, for all its stylistic ineptitude, likewise works better as a self-contained narrative than as a franchise-starter: Once shy Anastasia (Dakota Johnson), tested to her limits by the brand of possessive S&M wielded by Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), resolves that she’s better off as her own woman, continuing their romance entails doubling back on a lot of good character work.

But there’s money to be made and fans to be serviced, and so “Fifty Shades Darker” is here to — in the words of Coldplay’s “The Scientist,” c.............

TV/Movies / 5 Things That Would Happen If Nollywood Gets Its Razzie Award by Shalombrain: 9:50am On Jan 27, 2017
What would happen if Nollywood had an award ceremony that 'honors' the worst films and actors every year?

HOLLYWOOD HAS RAZZIE AWARDS. BOLLYWOOD HAS GHANTA AWARDS. NOLLYWOOD, HOWEVER HAS NO AWARD PLATFORM THAT HONORS HORRIBLE FILMS AND ACTORS EACH YEAR.

Razzie Award is a platform that honors the worst movies and performances of the year. The winners are determined by more than 600 voters in the U.S. and voters from other foreign countries.

Razzie Awards usually hold a day to the Oscars. Over the years, box office successful movies and award winning actors like Ben Affleck, "Fifty Shades of Grey," Michael Bay, Tyler Perry, Sandra Bullock have emerged winners.

In 2016, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan won the worst actor of the year for his role in "Dilwale."

Marion Cotillard, an Oscar award winner got a French Razzie worst actress Nomination.

There are five things that must happen if Nigeria got an award ceremony that honors the worst in film.

1. 70% OF NOLLYWOOD MOVIES AND ACTORS WOULD MAKE THE NOMINEE LIST

Every year comes with disastrous big screen bomb. Bad movies are nothing new in Nollywood, and considering that at least 70% of Nollywood movies are badly made, coming up with the Nollywood Razzie will not be a difficult task.
Once in a while, a great actor or veteran delivers a horrible role interpretation. Also, 70% of the time, horrible actors are featured in movies that make it to the cinema.

2. MOST FILMMAKERS ARE ACTORS WILL GO IN SEARCH OF THEIR 'HATERS'

In Nollywood, a negative article directed at a filmmaker simply means the writer is a 'hater.' Imagine an award system that honors horrible movies, most filmmakers will take to social media to write epistles about their hard work and their haters.

3. THERE WOULD BE A PHYSICAL BATTLE

Some filmmakers and actors will take the battle off social media to................................
